11. Book of Zakāh (1/5)
[Machine] About Asma bint Abi Bakr, whenever she spent something, she would tally it. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Spend and do not tally, for Allah will tally for you. Do not withhold, for Allah will withhold from you."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Amr, the righteous wealth with a righteous person is a blessing."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allahﷺ said: "O Amr, strengthen your weaponry and clothing." I said: "I have done so," and then I came to him and found him performing ablution. He raised his head and looked at me with attentiveness and said: "O Amr, I want to send you forth with a face that Allah will grant safety and reward you with spoils of war. And I desire to bestow upon you an honorable share from the wealth." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I did not accept Islam seeking wealth. I only embraced Islam seeking jihad and loyalty towards you." He said: "O Amr, how excellent is wealth when it is in the hands of a righteous person."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said about the pain he was experiencing at the time of his death, "O Aisha, what have you done with the gold?" She replied, "I still have it." He said, "Bring it to me." It was between seven dinars and five dinars. So, I brought it and placed it in his hand. Then he said, "What does Muhammad think of Allah, if he were to meet Allah and this is with him, that he should spend it?"
[Machine] "If you had seen the Prophet of Allah ﷺ on a certain day, when he was ill, and he had with me six or seven dinars, he ordered me to distribute them. Your illness preoccupied me until Allah cured you. Then she asked me about it, and I said, 'No, by Allah, your illness preoccupied me.' She said, 'Then he called for it and placed it in his hand and said, 'What do you think the Prophet of Allah would say if he met Allah while he has this with him?'"
[Machine] I heard Abu Al-Qasim peace be upon him say, "It does not please me that anyone owes me gold, and I have a dinar from it that I keep as a debt upon me."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Verily, this world is green and sweet, so whoever is given something from it with a good heart and a pleasant taste, then it is blessed for him. And whoever is given something from it without a good heart and a pleasant taste, and while his soul is greedy, then it is not blessed for him."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you pay the zakat of your wealth, then you have fulfilled your duty in it. And whoever accumulates unlawful wealth and then gives charity with it, he will not have any reward for it, and his burden will be upon him."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We are the last and the first on the Day of Judgment, and indeed the majority of people will be in the lower ranks, except for those who say this and that about him, from his right, left, behind, and in front, while clinging to his garment."
“Wretched is the slave of the Dinar and the slave of the Dirham, and the slave of velvet and the slave of the Khamisah.* If he is given, he is pleased and if he is not given, he does not fulfill (his oath of allegiance).” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4135)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The heart of the son of Adam remains youthful in love for two things throughout his life: wealth and desires."
"I (once) asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (for something) and he gave it to me. Then I asked him (again) and he gave it to me. Then I asked him (again) and he gave it to me. Then I asked him (again), so he gave it to me. Then he said: 'O Hakim! Indeed this wealth is green and sweet, so whoever takes it without asking for it, he will be blessed in it. And whoever takes it, insisting upon it, he will not be blessed in it. He is like the one who eats but does not get satisfied and contended. And the upper hand (giving) is better than the lower hand (receiving)." So Hakim said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! By the One who sent you with the Truth! I shall not ask anyone for anything after you until I depart the world.'"So Abu Bakr used to call Hakim to give him something, but he refused to accept it. Then 'Umar called him to give to him, but he refused to accept it. So 'Umar said: "O you Muslims! I would like you to bear witness that I presented Hakim with his due of these spoils of war but he refused to accept it." So Hakim never asked anyone of the people for anything after the Messenger of Allah, until he died. (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2463)
The world is sweet and green (alluring) and verily Allah is going to install you as vicegerent in it in order to see how you act. So avoid the allurement of women: verily, the first trial for the people of Isra'il was caused by women. And in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Ibn Bashshar the words are:" So that He should see how you act." (Using translation from Muslim 2742)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "I do not fear poverty for you after me, but I fear that you will indulge in worldly possessions. I do not fear that you will make mistakes, but I fear that you will deliberately commit them."
"Indeed there is a fitnah for every Ummah, and the Fitnah for my Ummah is wealth." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2336)
[Machine] He heard Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani saying, "The last thing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us in his sermon was that he prayed upon the martyrs of Uhud. Then he ascended the pulpit, praised Allah, and praised Him. Then he said, 'I am leaving behind a legacy for you, and I am also a witness over you. I can now see my reservoir from my position. By Allah, I am not afraid that you will associate others with Allah after me, but rather I am afraid that you will compete with each other for it (worldly possessions)."
"The Messenger of Allah sat on the Minbar, and we sat around him. He said: 'What I fear most for you after I am gone is the (worldly) delights that will come to you.' And he spoke of this world and its attractions. A man said: 'Can good bring forth evil? 'The Messenger of Allah remained silent and it was said to him (that man): 'What is the matter with you? You speak to the Messenger of Allah when he does not speak to you? We noticed that he was receiving Revelation. Then he recovered and wiped off his sweat and said: I know what the questioner meant: he means that good never brings forth evil. But some of that which grows in the spring kills the animals or makes them sick, unless they eat Al-Khadir (kind of plant): if they eat their fill or it then turn to face the sun and then defecate and urinate and start to graze again. This wealth is fresh and sweet. Blessed is the wealth of a Muslim from which he gives to a Muslim from which he gives to orphans, the poor and wayfarers. The one who takes it unlawfully is like the one who eats but is never satisfied, and who eats but is never satisfied, and it will be a witness against him on the Day of Resurrection."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2581)

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and addressed the people saying: ‘No, by Allah, I do not fear for you, O people, but I fear the attractions of this world that Allah brings forth for you.’ A man said to him: ‘O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, does good bring forth evil?’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent for a while, then he said: ‘What did you say?’ He said: ‘I said, does good bring forth evil?’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Good does not bring forth anything but good, but is it really good? Everything that grows on the banks of a stream may either kill if overeaten or (at least) make the animals sick, except if an animal eats its fill of Khadir* and then faces the sun, and then defecates and urinates, chews the cud and then returns to graze again. Whoever takes wealth in a lawful manner, it will be blessed for him, but whoever takes it in an unlawful manner, his likeness is that of one who eats and it never satisfied.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3995)

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: What is evil in a man are alarming niggardliness and unrestrained cowardice. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2511)
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The dust in the cause of Allah and the smoke of Hell will never be combined in the lungs of a slave, and the stinginess and faith can never be combined in a slave's heart." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3110)

"The one who consumes Riba, the one who pays it, and the one who writes it down, if they know that it is Riba; the woman who does tattoos and the woman who has that done for the purpose of beautification; the one who withholds Sadaqah (Zakah); and the one who reverts to the life of a Bedouin after having emigrated- they will (all) be cursed upon the tongue of Muhammad [SAW] on the Day of Resurrection."
No owner of the treasure who does not pay Zakat (would be spared) but (his hoards) would be heated in the Fire of Hell and these would be made into plates and with these his sides, his forehead would be cauterised till Allah would pronounce judgment among His servants during a day, the extent of which would be fifty thousand years. He would then see his path, leading either to Paradise or to Hell. And no owner of the camels who does not pay Zakat (would be spared) but a soft sandy plain would be set for him and they (the camels) would be made to pass over him till the last of them would be made to return till Allah would pronounce judgment among His servants during a day the extent of which would be fifty thousand years. He would then see his path leading him to Paradise or leading him to Hell. And no owner of the (cattle and) goats who does not pay Zakat (would be spared) but a soft sandy plain would be set for him, he would find none of them missing, with twisted horns, without horns, or with broken horns, and they will gore him with their horns and trample him with their hoofs and they would be made to pass over him till the last of them would be made to return till Allah would pronounce judgment among His servants, during a day the extent of which would be fifty thousand years, and he would see the paths leading to Paradise or to Hell. Suhail said: I do not know whether he made mention of the cows. They said: Messenger of Allah ﷺ, what about the horses? He said: The horses have goodness in their foreheads (or he said) or goodness is ingrained in the foreheads of the horses (Suhail said: I am in doubt as to what was actually said) up till the Day of judgement. The horses are of three kinds. They are a source of reward to a person, they are a covering to a person, and they are a burden to a person. As for those which bring reward is that a person would get reward who rears them for the sake of Allah and trains them for Him, and nothing disappears in their stomachs but Allah would record for him a good deed. And if they were to graze in the meadow, they would eat nothing but Allah would record for him a reward. And if they were to drink water from the canal, with every drop that, would disappear in their stomachs there would be reward (for the owner). He went on describing till a reward was mentioned for their urine and dung. And if they pranced a course or two, there would be recorded a reward for every pace that they covered. As for one for whom they are a covering, he is the man who rears them for honour and dignity but does not forget the right of their backs and their stomachs, in plenty and adversity, As regards one for whom they are a burden, he is that who rears them for vainglory and showing off to the people; for him they are, the burden. They said: Messenger of Allah, what about asses? He said: Allah has not revealed to me anything in regards to it except this one comprehensive verse:" He who does an atom's weight of good will see it, and he who does an atom's weight of evil will see it" (xcix. 7). [Machine] Narrated Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Wealth that is not spent in fulfilling its rightful obligations will come on the Day of Resurrection as a bald she-camel, stamping with its hooves. Cows and sheep will come and strike their owners with their horns and hooves. The treasure will come in the form of an empty-headed snake, and when it sees its owner, it will flee from him, then catch up with him, and he will say: 'What is with me and what is with you?' The snake will say: 'I am your treasure, I am your treasure.' Then its owner will take it by the hand and it will devour his hand."

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "There is no owner of camels who does good with them except that on the Day of Judgment, they will come in a better state than they were and will be given a standing place in a field of long grass, where they will eat and drink to their fill. And there is no owner of cows except that on the Day of Judgment, they will come in a better state than they were and will be given a standing place in a field of long grass, where they will push and trample with their horns and hooves, without any harmful thorns or broken horns. And there is no owner of a treasure who does not give it its rights except that on the Day of Judgment, his treasure will come in a bold, bellowing state, followed by its owner like a crazed beast. When he approaches it, it will run away from him, and his Lord will call out to him, 'Your treasure which you hoarded, come forth!' When he realizes there is no escaping it, he will put his hand into it and it will devour it like a stallion."

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, a man will not die without abandoning a camel, cow, or sheep without paying its zakat, except that it will be brought to him on the Day of Judgement in its greatest and fattest form, and it will trample him with its horns and trample him with its hooves. Every time its tail is gone, its head will return, until Allah judges between the people."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever leaves behind a treasure, a brave bald eagle will appear for him on the Day of Resurrection, carrying two raisins. It will follow him and say, 'Who are you?' He will reply, 'I am your treasure that you left behind.' It will continue to follow him until it feeds him with its hand and he bites it. Then, it will follow the rest of his body."
[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, "One of you will have a treasure on the Day of Resurrection, a bellicose devil that follows its owner while he seeks refuge from it. It continues to pursue him until it forces him to succumb and do its bidding."
