11. Book of Zakāh
[Machine] Narrated Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allahﷺ said: "No one opens a door of asking (for help) upon himself, but Allah will open a door of poverty for him, as if he were to stretch a rope to a mountain and take it upon his back, then eat from it, it would be better for him than to ask people, whether they give or refuse."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah is pleased with three things for you and displeased with three things. He is pleased with you worshipping Him alone without associating anything with Him, holding fast to the rope of Allah all together, and advising those whom Allah has placed in authority over you. And He is displeased with you engaging in vain disputes, excessive questioning, and wasting wealth."
Do not press in a matter, for I swear by Allah, none of you who asks me for anything and manages to get his request while I disdain it, will he be blessed in that which I give him. (Using translation from Muslim 1038a)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever asks for a nice camel to ride, then he is a staller." I said, "The precious gemstone is better than a camel." He said, "And the camel is worth forty dirhams."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever asks people to enrich his wealth, it is as if he is asking for a burning coal from the fire, which will burn whomever he wants. So let him ask for less if he wishes, and let him ask for more if he wishes."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, a person from among you comes to me asking, and I give to him, and then he departs carrying nothing but the fire of hell."
the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever begs from people so as to accumulate more riches, he is asking for alive coal from hell, so let him ask for a lot or a little.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1838)
[Machine] He heard Sahl ibn al-Hanzaliyyah, the companion of the Messenger of Allahﷺ saying that Al-Aqra' and 'Uyainah asked the Messenger of Allahﷺ for something. So Mu'awiyah was ordered to write it for them, and the Messenger of Allahﷺ sealed it and ordered it to be given to them. As for 'Uyainah, he asked, "What is in it?" and it was said to him, "It contains what you have been commanded." So he accepted it, tied it in his turban, and he was the more gentle of the two men. As for Al-Aqra', he said, "I carry a document, I don't know what's in it, like the document of a blind person." So Mu'awiyah informed the Messenger of Allahﷺ of what they said. Then the Messenger of Allahﷺ went out for his needs and passed by a tied camel at the door of the mosque early in the day, then he passed by it at the end of the day and it was still in the same place. So he asked, "Where is the owner of this camel?" They searched for him but did not find him. He said, "Fear Allah with regard to these animals. Ride them when they are healthy and eat them when they are fat and fattened. Indeed, whoever asks for something while he possesses what suffices him, he is only accumulating from the embers of Hellfire." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, what would suffice him?" He said, "What feeds him or provides him with clothing."
[Machine] Khinana, so I said to him, "You are the leader of your people, and they come to you asking, yet you give them nothing." He replied, "As for this, I will not give them anything, and I will inform you about it." I carried a burden in my tribe and I went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him, asking for his assistance. He said, "Rather, we will carry it for you, O Qabeeshah, and we will give it to them from the charity's camels." Then he said, "Indeed, begging is only permissible for three types of people: a man who carries a burden, and it has become permissible for him until he fulfills it, or a man who is afflicted by a calamity that wipes out his wealth until he attains a sufficient means of livelihood or a man who is afflicted by poverty, and three witnesses from his people testify that begging has become permissible for him until he attains a sufficient means of livelihood. Any other type of begging is forbidden."
I was under debt and I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and begged from him regarding it. He said: Wait till we receive Sadaqa, so that we order that to be given to you. He again said: Qabisa, begging is not permissible but for one of the three (classes) of persons: one who has incurred debt, for him begging is permissible till he pays that off, after which he must stop it; a man whose property has been destroyed by a calamity which has smitten him, for him begging is permissible till he gets what will support life, or will provide him reasonable subsistence; and a person who has been smitten by poverty. the genuineness of which is confirmed by three intelligent members of this peoples for him begging is permissible till he gets what will support him, or will provide him subsistence. Qabisa, besides these three (every other reason) for begging is forbidden, and one who engages in such consumes that what is forbidden. (Using translation from Muslim 1044)
11.13 [Machine] The mention of admonition regarding self-empowerment.
The Prophet ﷺ said: Acts of begging are lacerations with which a man disfigures his face, so he who wishes may preserve his self-respect, and he who wishes may abandon it; but this does not apply to one who begs from a ruler, or in a situation which makes it necessary. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1639)
[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while I wanted to ask him, and I heard him giving a sermon saying, "Whoever seeks contentment, Allah will enrich him, and whoever seeks chastity, Allah will grant him celibacy, and whoever asks from us, we will give him." So I turned back without asking him, and today I am the richest of the Ansar in wealth.
[Machine] "That his family complained to him about their need, so he went out to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to ask him for something for them. He agreed with him on the pulpit and said, 'O people, it is time for you to be independent of asking, for indeed, whoever seeks self-sufficiency, Allah will grant him sufficiency, and whoever seeks richness, Allah will enrich him. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, no servant is given a gift greater and more spacious than patience. And if you refuse except to ask me, I will give you whatever I have found.'"
Some of the Ansar begged from the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) and he gave them something. They later begged from him again and he gave them something so that what he had was exhausted. He then said :What I have I shall never store away from you but Allah will strengthen the abstinence of him who abstains, will give a satisfaction to him who wants to be satisfied, and will strengthen the endurance of him who shows endurance. No one has been given a more ample gift than endurance. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1644)
Be cautious about ahadith except those which were current during the reign of Umar, for he exhorted people to fear Allah, the Exalted and mMajestic. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: He upon whom Allah intends to bestow goodness, He confers upon him an insight in religion; and I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: I am the treasurer. To one whom I give out of (my own) sweet will, he would be blessed in that, but he whom I give (yielding to) his constant begging and for his covetousness is like one who would eat, but would not be satisfied. (Using translation from Muslim 1037a)

"I asked the Messenger of Allah and he gave me, then I asked him and he gave me. The he said: 'O Hakim, this wealth is attractive and sweet. Whoever takes it without being greedy, it will be blessed for him, and whoever takes it with avarice, it will be blessed for him. He is like one who eats and is not satisfied. And the upper hand is better than the lower hand.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! By the One Who sent you with the truth, I will never ask anyone for anything after you, until I depart this world. "' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2603)

[Machine] He has a long life. Indeed, I am telling you what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: "If Allah brings to you sustenance without asking or seeking it, then take it, for Allah has given it to you."

11.13 [Machine] The mention of admonition regarding self-empowerment.

ʿUmar bin al Khattab ؓ appointed me in charge of the zakah, and when had finished with it and handed it over to him, he ordered that I be given some remuneration. I said: I only did it for the sake of Allah and my reward is with Allah. He said: Take what is given to you. I was appointed to do some work at the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he gave me some remuneration, and I said the same as you have said, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: ʿIf you are given something without asking for it, then take it and give some in charity.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 371)

"I asked the Messenger of Allah and he gave me, then I asked him and he gave me, then I asked him and he gave me. Then he said: "This wealth is attractive and sweet. Whoever takes it without insisting, it will be blessed for him, and whoever takes it with avarice, it will not be blessed for him. He is like one who eats and is not satisfied. And the upper hand is better than the lower hand."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2531)

The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone seeks protection in Allah's name, grant him protection; if anyone begs in Allah's name, give him something; if anyone gives you an invitation, accept it; and if anyone does you a kindness, recompense him; but if you have not the means to do so, pray for him until you feel that you have compensated him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1672)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever asks in the name of Allah, give to him; and whoever seeks refuge in Allah, provide refuge for him; and whoever invites you, respond to him."

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I passed by a man who did not entertain me nor treat me kindly. Should I retaliate against him?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "No, rather offer him kindness."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ , Abu Bakr, and Umar came to us, so we fed them dates and gave them water to drink. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is from the blessings that you ask about."
[Machine] I said to the Prophet ﷺ , "Indeed, I have seen so and so calling and mentioning good, and he also mentions that you have given him two dinars." He replied, "However, I have given him what is between such and such (a specific range) and he has neither praised nor said anything good."
the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever some good was done to him, and he says: 'May Allah reward you in goodness' then he has done the most that he can of praise." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2035)
[Machine] He entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I saw so-and-so thanking you for giving him two dinars." The Prophet ﷺ said, "However, so-and-so was given what is between ten and a hundred, yet he neither thanks nor says it. Truly, one of you will come to me with his need, holding it tightly, and it is nothing but fire." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, why do you give them?" He said, "They are not satisfied except by asking me, and Allah does not like me to be stingy."
[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "Whoever does someone a favor and is only thanked for it, then they have shown gratitude. And whoever conceals it, then they have denied it. And whoever adorns themselves with falsehood, they are like one who wears two garments of deceit."
