11. Book of Zakāh
"Two wolves free among sheep are no more destructive to them than a man's desire for wealth and honor is to his religion." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2376)
"The Son Of Adan grows old, but two things keep him young: Desire for life and desire for wealth." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2339)
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "The heart of a grown man is divided between the love of two things: the love of life and the love of wealth." Ibn 'Arafa said, "And I am one of them."
[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "If the son of Adam had a valley of wealth, he would desire to have another similar to it. However, nothing can fill the soul of the son of Adam except dust. Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If the son of Adam had two valleys of wealth, he would desire a third, and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except the dust. Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "If the son of Adam had a valley full of dates, he would wish for another similar to it, and nothing would fill the stomach of the son of Adam except dust."
11.2 [Machine] What is mentioned about greed and what is related to it?
[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "If the son of Adam had a valley filled with wealth, he would desire to have another one similar to it. But nothing fills the son of Adam's soul except dust, and Allah forgives those who repent."
If there were two valleys of gold for the son of Adam, he would long for another one. and his mouth will not be filled but with dust, and Allah returns to him who repents. (Using translation from Muslim 1048c)
If the son of Adam were to possess two valleys of riches. he would long for the third one. And the stomach of the son of Adam is not filled but with dust. And Allah returns to him who repents. (Using translation from Muslim 1048a)
[Machine] "A man came to Umar and asked him, so he began to look at his head and then at his legs, due to the poverty he saw in him. Umar asked him, 'How much do you possess?' He replied, 'Forty camels.' Ibn Abbas said, 'So I said, "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth: If the son of Adam possessed two valleys of gold, he would desire a third, but nothing will fill the belly of the son of Adam except dust. And Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent."' Umar then asked me what I was saying. I replied, 'I am narrating it as I heard it from Ubay ibn Ka'b.' Umar told me to take him to him, and when we went to him, Umar asked, 'What is he saying?' Ubay replied, 'This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ narrated it to me.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Verily, sustenance seeks a person just as his appointed time seeks him."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not be lazy in seeking sustenance, for a servant will not die until he acquires his last provision that is destined for him. So, strive to seek lawful means of sustenance and avoid the forbidden."
[Machine] "A person came to the Prophet ﷺ , and he had a ripe date, so he gave it to him. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Take it, if it had not come to you, it would have come to you.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allahﷺ said, "Do not be lazy in seeking sustenance, for no servant will die until he receives his last provision that is meant for him, so seek and strive for halal (lawful) provisions and avoid the haram (forbidden)."
[Machine] I heard my son Khalid say that we came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was constructing a building. When he finished, he called us and said, "Do not compete in seeking sustenance to the extent that your heads start shaking. Verily, a person is born while his mother is still red, without any skin on him, and then Allah provides for him and sustains him."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "A person is rewarded for all his expenditures except for spending on this dirt." Abu Hatim said, "The meaning of this statement is that a person is not rewarded when he spends on building structures, in addition to what is necessary."
A servant says, My wealth. my wealth, but out of his wealth three things are only his: whatever he eats and makes use of or by means of which he dresses himself and it wears out or he gives as charity, and this is what he stored for himself (as a reward for the Hereafter), and what is beyond this (it is of no use to you) because you are to depart and leave it for other people. (Using translation from Muslim 2959a)
