6. Book of Righteousness and Excellence (Iḥsān) (2)
[Machine] I approached the Prophetﷺ while he was wearing a cloak, and its hem was touching his feet. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, advise me." He said, "You should be mindful of Allah and not belittle any act of goodness, even if it is just pouring water from your bucket into the vessel of the one who seeks water, and you should speak kindly to your brother while facing him with a smiling face. And beware of tucking your garment beneath your knees [out of pride], as this is from arrogance, and Allah does not love arrogance. If someone criticizes you for something he knows about you, do not criticize him for something you know about him. Let him be with his own faults, and his retribution will be upon himself. And do not curse anyone." Then I did not insult any living being after that (Saheeh Muslim).
[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we are a people from the desert. Teach us something that will benefit us with Allah." He said, "Do not belittle any good deed, even if it is pouring the water from your bucket into the vessel of someone seeking water. And if you talk to your brother with a relaxed face while facing him, and beware of dragging your garment below the ankles, for it is from arrogance and Allah does not like it. And if someone speaks ill of you with something that he knows about you, do not retaliate with something that you know about him, for his reward will be upon you and his sin will be upon him."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not underestimate any act of kindness, even if it is just meeting your brother with a cheerful face. And when you cook soup, add more water to it and share it with your neighbors."
that Muʿādh b. Jabal planned to go on a journey, so he said: O Prophet of Allah, ˹please˺ give me some advice. He said, "Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him." He said: O Prophet of Allah, ˹please give me more advice.˺ He said, "When you have done something bad, then ˹follow it up with˺ doing good." He said: O Messenger of Allah, ˹please give me more advice.˺. He said, "Be steadfast ˹in these˺ and improve your character."
[Machine] "A man said: O Messenger of Allah, when will I be considered righteous (good)? He (the Prophet) said: 'When your neighbors say that you are good, then you are good. And when they say that you are bad, then you are bad.'"
“A man said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: ‘How can I know when I have done well and when I have done something bad?’ The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘If you hear your neighbors saying that you have done well, then you have done well, and if you hear them saying that you have done something bad, then you have done something bad.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4223)
[Machine] Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, "Shall I not inform you about the best of you in terms of faith? It is the one from whom goodness is expected and harm is feared. And shall I not inform you about the worst of you in terms of faith? It is the one from whom goodness is not expected and harm is not feared."
'Shall I not inform you of the best of you from your worst?'" He said: "They became silent, so he said that three times, then a man said: 'Of course, O Messenger of Allah! Inform us of the best among us from our worst.' He said: 'The best of you is the one whose goodness is hoped for, and people are safe from his evil. And the worst of you is he whose goodness is not hoped for, and people are not safe from his evil.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2263)
"Your smiling in the face of your brother is charity, commanding good and forbidding evil is charity, your giving directions to a man lost in the land is charity for you. Your seeing for a man with bad sight is a charity for you, your removal of a rock, a thorn or a bone from the road is charity for you. Your pouring what remains from your bucket into the bucket of your brother is charity for you." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1956)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever acts as a mediator for his Muslim brother to a powerful person, to facilitate ease or alleviate hardship, Allah will grant him permission to cross the bridge on the Day of Judgment when feet are slipped."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, I am given and asked for, and needs are brought to me and you are near me. So Intercede, you shall be rewarded. And Allah decides through the tongue of his Prophet what He likes or wills."
[Machine] He heard Ja'far ibn Abdullah saying, "A scorpion bit one of us while we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." A man said, "O Messenger of Allah, shall I recite a Ruqyah for him?" He ﷺ said, "Whoever among you is able to benefit his brother, then let him do so."
A Muslim is a Muslim’s brother: he does not wrong him or abandon him. If anyone cares for his brother’s need, Allah will care for his need ; if anyone removes a Muslim’s anxiety, Allah will remove from him, on account of it, one of the anxieties of the Day of resurrection ; and if anyone conceals a Muslim’s fault, Allah will conceal his fault on the Day of resurrection. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4893)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in this world and the Hereafter. And whoever relieves a Muslim from hardship, Allah will relieve him from a hardship on the Day of Judgment. Allah will assist His servant as long as the servant is assisting his brother."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ came and started saying, "O Prophet of Allah, guide me." There was a man among the prominent pagans with the Prophet ﷺ who he ignored and turned to someone else. The Prophet ﷺ then asked the man, "Do you perceive any difficulty in what I am saying?" and the man replied, "No." Then the verse "He frowned and turned away" (Surah Abasa, 80:1) was revealed.
أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ أَرْشِدْنِي قَالَتْ وَعِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ مِنْ عُظَمَاءِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُعْرِضُ عَنْهُ وَيُقْبِلُ عَلَى الْآخَرِ فقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «يَا فُلَانُ أَتَرَى بِمَا أَقُولُ بَأْسًا» فَيَقُولُ لَا فَنَزَلَتْ {عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّى}
While a person was going along the path he found a thorny branch upon it. He pushed it to a side and Allah approved (this action) of his and (as a mark of appreciation) granted him pardon. (Using translation from Muslim 1914b)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A man from among those who came before you was held accountable and nothing good was found for him except for a thorny branch that was on the road and used to harm people. So, he was removed from it, and he was forgiven."
[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, "A man's sins will be forgiven if he removes a thorny branch from the path of people, regardless of the magnitude of his past and future sins."

The Prophet ﷺ said: A man never did a good deed but removed a thorny branch from the road; it was either in the tree and someone cut it and threw it on the road, or it was lying in it, he removed it. Allah accepted this good deed of his and brought him into Paradise. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5245)
"O Messenger of Allah! Tell me of an action by which I may benefit.' He said: 'Remove harmful things from the path of the Muslims.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3681)
[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, does the lost animal come to my reservoir, will there be a reward in it if I give it water?" He said, "Give it water, for verily, in every living being with a liver, there is a reward."
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said, "A man approached a well, descended, and drank from it. There was a dog by the well panting with thirst, so the man felt compassion for it. He then took off his shoe, tied it to his garment, and filled it with water. He gave the dog a drink, and as a result, Allah appreciated his act of kindness and admitted him into Paradise."
Abu Hurairah reported the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ as saying “ While a man was going on his way, he felt himself thirsty severely. He found a well and e went down in it. He drank water and came out. Suddenly he saw a dog panting and eating soil due to thirst. The man said (to himself) “This dog must have reached the same condition due to thirst as I had reached. So he went down into the well, filled his sock with water, held it with his mouth and came up. He supplied water to the dog. Allaah appreciated this and forgave him.” They asked “Apostle of Allaah ﷺ, Is there any reward for us for these beasts? He replied, For every cool liver there is a reward.” (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2550)

[Machine] Uyunah and al-Aqra' asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for something, so he commanded Muawiyah to write it for them, and he did so. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sealed it and commanded for it to be delivered to them. As for Uyunah, he asked, "What is in it?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "It contains what I have commanded." Uyunah accepted it and tied it in his turban. As for al-Aqra', he said, "I am carrying a scroll, but I do not know its contents, like the scroll of Mutammis." Muawiyah informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about their statements. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to attend to his needs and passed by a tied camel at the entrance of the mosque from early morning until later in the day, while it remained in the same condition. He asked, "Where is the owner of this camel?" When he was sought, he could not be found. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Fear Allah regarding these animals. Ride them in good health and slaughter them when they are fat like the animals that are neglected. Verily, whoever asks while having what is sufficient for him, it is as if he is accumulating embers from Hellfire." He asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is sufficient for him?" He replied, "What provides him with dinner and supper."
