٦۔ كِتَابُ الْبِرِّ وَالْإِحْسَانِ

6.2 [Machine] Chapter: Mentioning Allah's preparation for His obedient servants which cannot be described by their senses.

ibnhibban:369Abū Khalīfah > Ibrāhīm b. Bashhār > Sufyān > Abū al-Zinād > al-Aʿraj > Abū Hurayrah Yablugh Bih

Allah the Exalted and Glorious, said: I have prepared for My pious servants which no eye has ever seen, and no ear has ever heard, and no human heart has ever perceived but it is testified by the Book of Allah. He then recited:" No soul knows what comfort has been concealed from them, as a reward for what they did". (xxxii. 17) (Using translation from Muslim 2824a)

[Machine] "A message came down to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Hudaybiyah, and indeed his companions were feeling sadness and distress. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A verse has been revealed to me which is more beloved to me than the entire world and everything in it.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited the verse to them: 'That He may admit the believing men and believing women to gardens beneath which rivers flow.'

[Machine] "It came down to the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, as a response from al-Hudaybiyah. His companions were overwhelmed with sadness and gloom, as there was a barrier between them and their demand. They had sacrificed their animals in al-Hudaybiyah. The Messenger of Allah, upon him be peace, said, 'Indeed, a verse has been revealed to me that is more beloved to me than the entire world.' He recited it to them until the end of the verse. Then, a man from the community said, 'Congratulations and glad tidings to you, O Messenger of Allah! Allah has made clear to you what He will do with you, so what will He do with us?' So Allah revealed, 'That He may admit the believing men and the believing women to gardens beneath which rivers flow...' until the end of the verse."

[Machine] I asked Abu Tharr, "Guide me to an action that, if a servant performs it, he will enter Paradise."

He said, "I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that, and he said, 'He believes in Allah.'"

I said, "O Messenger of Allah, is there any other deed alongside faith?"

He said, "He is content with what Allah has provided for him."

I said, "Even if he is deprived of everything?"

He said, "He speaks good words with his tongue."

I said, "What if he is mute and cannot speak?"

He said, "He helps the oppressed."

I said, "What if he is weak and has no strength?"

He said, "Then let him support the disabled."

I said, "What if he himself is disabled?"

He looked at me and said, "If you want to leave your friend with some good, then do not harm others."

I said, "O Messenger of Allah, is this a word of ease?"

He ﷺ said, "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! No servant performs a quality from these qualities, desiring with it what is with Allah, except that it will take hold of him on the Day of Resurrection until it brings him into Paradise."

[Machine] An Arab man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, teach me a deed that will admit me into Paradise." The Prophet ﷺ replied, "If you shorten your speech, you have already fulfilled the request. Freeing a slave and removing the burden of a slave's neck are acts of righteousness. The freeing of the soul is when you grant freedom to a slave without expecting anything in return, and removing the burden of the neck is when you give a slave as a gift without accepting any payment. And the charitable gift is when you give to one who has severed their ties of kinship. If you cannot do that, then feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, enjoin what is good, and forbid what is evil. And if you cannot do that, then restrain your tongue from speaking anything except good."

ibnhibban:377al-Ḥasan b. Sufyān > Hudbah b. Khālid > Hammām b. Yaḥyá > Qatādah > Anas b. Mālik

Verily, Allah does not treat a believer unjustly in regard to his virtues. He would confer upon him (His blessing) in this world and would give him reward in the Hereafter. And as regards a non-believer, he would be made to taste the reward (of virtue in this world) what he has done for himself so much that when it would be the Hereafter, he would find no virtue for which he should be rewarded. (Using translation from Muslim 2808a)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There was a worshipper from the Children of Israel who worshipped Allah in his monastery for sixty years. Then, rain came and the earth turned green. The worshipper saw this and realized that if he descended from his monastery and mentioned the name of Allah, he would gain even more goodness. So, he descended with a loaf of bread or two loaves of bread, and while he was on the ground, he came across a woman. He continued to speak to her and she spoke to him until nightfall. Then, she lost consciousness and fell. The worshipper went to a pond to perform Ghusl (ritual purification) and a beggar came to him. He gestured to the beggar to take the two loaves of bread or the loaf of bread, then he died. The worshipper's worship for sixty years was weighed against this sin, and the sin outweighed his worship. However, when the loaf or the two loaves of bread were put on the scales along with his good deeds, his good deeds outweighed them and he was forgiven."

I asked AbuTha'labah al-Khushani: What is your opinion about the verse "Care for yourselves". He said: I swear by Allah, I asked the one who was well informed about it; I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it. He said: No, enjoin one another to do what is good and forbid one another to do what is evil. But when you see niggardliness being obeyed, passion being followed, worldly interests being preferred, everyone being charmed with his opinion, then care for yourself, and leave alone what people in general are doing; for ahead of you are days which will require endurance, in which showing endurance will be like grasping live coals. The one who acts rightly during that period will have the reward of fifty men who act as he does. Another version has: He said (The hearers asked:) Messenger of Allah, the reward of fifty of them? He replied: The reward of fifty of you. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4341)
