#shaban (1)

Sha'ban was the month most fasted by the Prophet ﷺ outside of Ramadan

bukhari:1970Muʿādh b. Faḍālah > Hishām > Yaḥyá > Abū Salamah > ʿĀʾishah

The Prophet ﷺ never fasted in any month more than in the month of Sha'ban.

He used to say, "Do those deeds which you can do easily, as Allah will not get tired (of giving rewards) till you get bored and tired (of performing religious deeds)." The most beloved prayer to the Prophet ﷺ was the one that was done regularly (throughout the life) even if it were little. And whenever the Prophet ﷺ offered a prayer he used to offer it regularly.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not observe fast in any month of the year more than in the month of Sha'ban, and used to say: Do as many deeds as you are capable of doing, for Allah will not become weary (of giving you reward), but you would be tired (of doing good deeds) ; and he also said: The deed liked most by Allah is one to which the doer adheres constantly even if it is small.

ahmad:26123ʿAbd al-Ṣamad And ʾAbū ʿĀmir al-Maʿná > Hishām > Yaḥyá > Abū Salamah

[Machine] Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, said that he did not fast more in any year than he did in the month of Sha'ban. He would fast the entire month of Sha'ban and would say, "Take on only what you are able to handle in terms of deeds, for Allah does not tire until you tire. The deeds that were most beloved to the Prophet ﷺ were those that were done consistently, even if they were few in number. And when he would perform a prayer, he would consistently perform it."

ahmad:25558ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿAmr Abū ʿĀmir > Hishām > Yaḥyá > Abū Salamahaʾan ʿĀʾishah

[Machine] It was reported that the Prophet ﷺ did not fast more in any month of the year than he did in Sha'ban. He used to fast the entire month of Sha'ban. He used to say, "Take from your actions what you can bear, for Allah does not tire until you tire. The most beloved prayer to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the one that was consistent, even if it was little." When he would pray a prayer, he would remain consistent in it.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to fast from the months of the year more in the month of Sha'ban. He used to fast the whole month of Sha'ban and he used to say, "Take from actions what you are capable of, for Allah does not get tired until you get tired." Indeed, prayer was most beloved to him when he consistently performed it, even if it was little. And whenever he prayed a certain prayer, he would continue to pray it consistently.

Time has completed a cycle and come to the state of the day when Allah created the heavens and the earth. The year is constituted of twelve months, of which four are sacred; three of them consecutive, viz. Dhu'l-Qa'da, Dhu'l- Hijja and Muharram, and also Rajab the month of Mudar which comes between Jumada and Sha'ban. He (the Holy Prophet) then said: which month is this? We said Allah and His Messenger know best. He (the narrator) said: He (the Holy Prophet) remained silent for some time until we thought that he would give it a name other than that (by which it was known). He said: Is it not Dha'l-Hijja? We said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Which city is this? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (the Holy Prophety remained silent until we thought that he would give it another name. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Is it not the Balda (the city of Mecca)? We said: Yes. He said: What day is this? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (the Holy Prophet) remained silent until we thought that he would give it another name. He said: Is it not the Day of Sacrifice? We said: Messenger of Allah. yes. Thereupon he said: Your blood, your property (Muhammad, one of the narrators, said: I think, he also said this) and your honour are sacred to you like the sacredness of this day of yours, in this city of yours, and in this month of yours. You will soon meet your Lord and He will ask you about your deeds. So do not turn after me unbelievers (or misguided), some of you striking the necks of the others. Behold I let him who is present convey to him who is absent, for many a one whom a message is conveyed has a more retentive memory than one who hears. He again said: Behold! have I not delivered (the message) to you? This hadith has been narrated through another chain of transmitters, but with a slight variation of words.

Then the Prophet ﷺ asked, "Which is this month?" We said, "Allah and His Apostle know better." On that the Prophet ﷺ kept quiet so long that we thought that he might name it with another name. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "Isn't it the month of Dhul-Hijja?" We replied, "Yes." Then he said, "Which town is this?" "We replied, "Allah and His Apostle know better." On that he kept quiet so long that we thought that he might name it with another name. Then he said, "Isn't it the town of Mecca?" We replied, "Yes, " Then he said, "Which day is today?" We replied, "Allah and His Apostle know better." He kept quiet so long that we thought that he might name it with another name. Then he said, "Isn't it the day of An- Nahr (i.e. sacrifice)?" We replied, "Yes." He said, "So your blood, your properties, (The sub-narrator Muhammad said, 'I think the Prophet ﷺ also said: And your honor..) are sacred to one another like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this city of yours, in this month of yours; and surely, you will meet your Lord, and He will ask you about your deeds. Beware! Do not become infidels after me, cutting the throats of one another. It is incumbent on those who are present to convey this message (of mine) to those who are absent. May be that some of those to whom it will be conveyed will understand it better than those who have actually heard it." (The sub-narrator, Muhammad, on remembering that narration, used to say, "Muhammad spoke the truth!") He (i.e. Prophet) then added twice, "No doubt! Haven't I conveyed (Allah's Message) to you?" That the Prophet ﷺ asked him (Imran) or asked a man and ʿImran was listening, "O Abu so-and-so! Have you fasted the last days of this month?" (The narrator thought that he said, "the month of Ramadan"). The man replied, "No, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!" The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "When you finish your fasting (of Ramadan) fast two days (in Shawwal)." Through another series of narrators ʿImran said, "The Prophet ﷺ said, '(Have you fasted) the last days of Sha'ban?"
