12. Book of Fasting (1/6)
[Machine] Narrated Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah, the Most Blessed and Exalted, said: 'Every good deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied; a good deed is multiplied by ten to seven hundred times, except for fasting, for it is for Me and I will reward for it. The fasting person abstains from food, drink, and sexual relations, so My reward is for him. He leaves his desires and food for My sake.' The person observing fasting should avoid obscene speech and ignorance. If someone abuses him or quarrels with him, he should say: 'I am fasting, I am fasting.'"
“Whoever fasts one day in the cause of Allah, Allah will keep the Fire away from his face the distance of seventy autumns (years) for that day.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1717)
"I heard the Messenger of Allah say" 'Whoever spends on a pair of things in the cause of Allah, he will be called from the gates of Paradise: O slave of Allah, this is good for you. Paradise had (several) gates. Whoever is one of the people of Salah, he will be called from the gate of prayer. Whoever is one of the people of Jihad, will be called from the gate of Jihad. Whoever is one of the people of charity will be called from the gate of charity. And whoever is one of the people of fasting will be called from the gate of Ar-Rayyan." Abu Bakr said: "Is there any need for anyone to be called from all of these gates? Will anyone be called from all of them, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Yes, and I hope that you will be among them." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2439)
"Whoever spends on a pair (of things) in the cause of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, he will be called in Paradise: 'O slave of Allah, here is prosperity, Whoever is one of the people of Salah, he will be called from the gate of salah. Whoever is on of the people of charity, he will be called from the gate of Ar-Rayyan.' Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said: 'O Messenger of Allah, no distress or need will befall the one who is called from those gates. Will there be anyone who will be called from all these gates?' The Messenger of Allah said: 'Yes, and I hope that you will be one of them."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2238)
In Paradise there is a gate which is called Rayyan through which only the people who fast would enter on the Day on Resurrection. None else would enter along with them. It would be proclaimed: Where are the people who fast that they should be admitted into it? And when the last of them would enter, it would be closed and no one would enter it. (Using translation from Muslim 1152)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is a door in Paradise called Ar-Rayyan which is reserved for the fasting people. When the last of them enters, it will be closed."
The Prophet ﷺ said, "(Allah said), 'Every good deed of Adam's son is for him except fasting; it is for Me. and I shall reward (the fasting person) for it.' Verily, the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the smell of musk." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5927)
"The Prophet said: 'Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, says: Fasting is for me I shall reward for it. The fasting person has two moments of joy: When he breaks his fast and when he meets his Lord. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, the smell that comes from the mouth of the fasting person is better before Allah than the fragrance of musk." ' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2213)
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "Every good deed that the son of Adam performs will be multiplied ten times up to seven hundred times, except for fasting. It is for Me and I will reward it. He gives up his desires and his food and drink for My sake. The fasting person has two moments of joy: one when he breaks his fast and the other when he meets his Lord. The smell from the mouth of a fasting person is purer to Allah than the scent of musk."
[Machine] The translation of the given Arabic text is: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ narrated to us and mentioned some stories, and he said, 'The fast is a shield.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are three whose supplication is not rejected: the fasting person until he breaks his fast, the just ruler, and the supplication of the oppressed."
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "Whoever gives food to a fasting person to break his fast, he will have a reward equal to his, without it detracting in any way from the fasting person's reward."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon her, so she invited him to eat. He said, "Come and eat." She said, "Indeed, I am fasting." He said, "Verily, when a fasting person is eating in the presence of the angels, they send blessings upon him."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ formed an army, and I approached him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah for martyrdom for me." He said, "O Allah, protect them and give them booty." So, we set out for battle and achieved victory and collected goods until he mentioned that three times. Then, I approached him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have approached you three times, asking you to pray for martyrdom for me." He said, "O Allah, protect them and give them booty." We achieved victory and collected goods, O Messenger of Allah. Guide me towards an action that will lead me to Paradise." He said, "Fasting is the best action, as there is no equivalent to it." Abu Umamah was not seen with smoke in his house during the day, unless they had guests. When they saw smoke during the day, they knew that they had guests.
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, guide me to a deed." He said, "You should observe fasting, as it has no equal."
12.2 [Machine] The Virtue of Ramadan
The Prophet ﷺ as saying: The two months of 'Id (festival), Ramadan and Dhu al-Hijjah, are not defective. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2323)
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Whoever fasts Ramadan and spends its nights in prayer, out of faith and in hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1326)
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "Whoever fasts Ramadan, knows its limits, and preserves what should be preserved, will have their previous sins forgiven."
'When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained up." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2099)
“When the first night of Ramadan comes, the satans and mischievous jinns are chained up, and the gates of the Fire are closed, and none of its gates are opened. The gates of Paradise are opened and none of its gates are closed. And a caller cries out: ‘O seeker of good, proceed, O seeker of evil, stop.’ And Allah has necks (people) whom He frees (from the Fire), and that happens every day.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1642)
[Machine] "When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ entered the last ten nights of Ramadan, he used to wake up his family, tighten his waist belt, and stay up all night in worship."
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that when the last ten nights began Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept awake at night (for prayer and devotion), wakened his family, and prepared himself to observe prayer (with more vigour). (Using translation from Muslim 1174)
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, what if I were to testify that there is no god except Allah and you are the Messenger of Allah, and I were to perform the five Ṣalawāt (obligatory ritual prayers), pay the Zakāh (obligatory charity), fast ˹the month of˺ Ramaḍān and stand ˹for night ṣalāh˺ in it, then whom I would be among? He (the Prophet ﷺ) said, "From the Truthful ones and the Martyrs."
The Prophet ﷺ said: One of you should not say: I fasted the whole of Ramadan, and I prayed during the night in the whole of Ramadan. I do not know whether he disliked the purification; or he (the narrator) said: He must have slept a little and taken rest. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2415)

The Prophet ﷺ was the most generous person, and he used to become more so (generous) particularly in the month of Ramadan because Gabriel used to meet him every night of the month of Ramadan till it elapsed. Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite the Qur'an for him. When Gabriel met him, he used to become more generous than the fast wind in doing good. (Using translation from Bukhārī 4997)

"It was the custom among the Companions of Muhammad ﷺ, that if any of them was fasting and the food was presented but he had slept before eating, he would not eat that night, nor the following day until the evening. Qais bin Sirmah Al-Ansari fasted and came to his wife at the time of Iftar, and said to her: 'No, but I will go and bring something for you.' He worked during the day, so his eyes (sleep) overcame him. Then his wife came, and when she saw him she said: 'You shall be disappointed.' About the middle of the next day he fainted. That was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ, so this Ayah was revealed: 'It is made lawful for you to have sexual relations with your women on the night of the fasts. So they were very happy about that. 'And eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears distinct to you from the black thread (of night). (2:187)'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2968)
