12. Book of Fasting
"When this verse was revealed 'And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a miskin (poor person) (for every day). Those among us who did not want to fast would pay the fidyah, until the verse after it was revealed and abrogated this." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2316)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, fasting is not only about abstaining from food and drink. Rather, fasting is also about refraining from vain talk and indecent behavior. If someone insults you or behaves ignorantly towards you, then say, "I am fasting."
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)" (Using translation from Bukhārī 1903)
[Machine] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Many a person who stands in prayer gets nothing from his standing but sleeplessness, and many a person who fasts gets nothing from his fasting but hunger."
“When anyone of you is fasting, let him not utter evil or ignorant speech. If anyone speaks to him in an ignorant manner, let him say: ‘I am fasting.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1691)
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "Do not insult others while you are fasting. And if someone insults you, say, 'I am fasting.' And if you are standing, then sit down."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "If one of you is insulted while fasting, he should respond by saying: 'I am fasting.' He should refrain from arguing with the person insulting him."
