14. Book of Supplications (Duʿāʾ), and Rememberence and Glorification of Allah
[Machine] "When the companions of the Prophet ﷺ gathered around him and he wanted to get up, he would say, 'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdik, ash-hadu an la ilaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk. Amiltu su'an wa thalamtu nafsi faghfirli, fa innahu la yaghfiru adh-dhunuba illa anta.' We said, 'O Messenger of Allah, did you come up with these words?' He said, 'Yes, Jibril came to me and said, O Muhammad, these are the expiation for gatherings.'"
that a Mukatib came to him and said: “Indeed I am not capable of my Kitabah so aid me.” He said: “Should I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me? If you had a debt upon you similar to the mountain of Sir, Allah would fulfill it for you. He said: ‘Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful against Your prohibited, and make me independent of all those besides You (Allāhummakfinī biḥalālika ʿan ḥarāmika, wa aghninī bi faḍlika ʿamman siwāka).’” (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3563)
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, "Whoever enters the market and says, 'There is no god but Allah, alone without partner. His is the dominion, and His is the praise. He brings life and causes death, and He is over all things capable' - Allah will write for him a million good deeds, erase from him a million bad deeds, and build for him a house in Paradise." The narrator said, "So I went to Khorasan and I came to Qutaybah ibn Muslim and said to him, 'I have come to you with a gift and to inform you about this narration.' He would ride in his procession until he reached the entrance of the market, then he would say it and leave."
"Whoever says, when he enters the marketplace: 'La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulk wa lahul-hamdu, yuhyi wa yumitu, wa Huwa hayyun la yamutu, bi yadihil-khairu kulluhu, wa Huwa ala kulli shay’in Qadir (None has the right to be worshiped but Allah alone, with no partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and to Him is the praise, He gives life and gives death, and He is Ever-Living and does not die; in His Hand is all goodness and He is Able to do all things),' Allah will record for him one million good deeds, and will erase from him one million bad deeds, and will build for him a house in Paradise. " (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2235)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever says in a marketplace, There is no God but Allah alone, with no partner or associate, His is the dominion, to Him all praise is due, all goodness is in His hand, He grants life and death and He has power overall things,ʿ Allah will record for him one thousand thousand good deeds and will erase from him one thousand thousand bad deeds, and will build a house for him in Paradise.ʿ (Using translation from Aḥmad 327)
[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the market, he would say, 'In the name of Allah, O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this market and the goodness within it. And I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil within it. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from acquiring an unrighteous oath or a losing transaction within it.'"
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to prefer concise supplications and leave what is beyond that."
Abdullah heard his son praying to Allah: O Allah, I ask Thee a white palace on the right of Paradise when I enter it. He said: O my son, ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge in Him from Hell-Fire, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: In this community there will be some people who will exceed the limits in purification as well as in supplication. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 96)
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, when he first woke up at night, 'There is no god but Allah, the One, the Subjugator, Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Almighty, the Forgiving.'"
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ awake at night, he said: There is no god but thou, glory be to Thee, O Allah, I ask Thy pardon for my sin and I ask Thee for Thy mercy. O Allah! advance me in knowledge: do not cause my heart to deviate (from guidance) after Thou hast guided me, and grant me mercy from thyself; verily thou art the grantor. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5061)
[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to bed, he would say: 'O Allah, forgive me, drive away my Shaytaan, loosen my tongue, weigh my deeds, and grant me a place in the highest paradise.'"
The Prophet ﷺ used to say: "O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from poverty", lack and abasement, and I seek refuge in Thee lest I cause or suffer wrong." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1544)
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-kasali wal-harami wal-ma'thami wal-maghrami (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the tribulation of the Fire and the torment of the Fire, and from the tribulation of the grave, and from the evil of the tribulation of richness and the evil of the tribulation of poverty, and from the evil of the trial of the False Christ. O Allah! Wash away my sins with the water of snow and hail, and cleanse my heart from sin as a white garment is cleansed from filth, and put a great distance between me and my sins, as great as the distance You have made between the east and the west. O Allah! I seek refuge with You from laziness and old age, and from sins and debt)." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3838)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Seize your paradise." We asked, "O Messenger of Allah, from an enemy that has arrived?" He said, "No, your paradise from the Fire. Say, 'Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is the greatest.' For indeed, they will come on the Day of Resurrection as saviors and precedents, and they are the lasting good deeds."
[Machine] The translation of the given phrase, "كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَدْعُو «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِيشَةً نَقِيَّةً وَمِيتَةً سَوِيَّةً وَمَرَدًّا غَيْرَ مُخْزٍ وَلَا فَاضِحٍ»" in English is:
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to pray, "O Allah, I ask You for a pure life, a just death, and a return that is not shameful or embarrassing."
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate: "O Allah, make Your provision abundant upon me as my age increases and my life approaches its end."
[Machine] There were two groups among you. One of them has already passed, and the other one remains. Allah would not punish them while you are among them, nor would Allah punish them while they seek forgiveness. [Quran 8:33]
[Machine] There were two guarantees on earth. One of them was lifted, while the other remained. “And it is not for Allah to punish them while you are among them, and Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.” (Quran, Al-Anfal 33)
[Machine] "On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who said: 'Whoever says "There is no power or strength except with Allah" it will be a cure for ninety-nine ailments, the least of which is anxiety.'"
[Machine] "That Abu Talib fell ill and his condition worsened, so the Prophet ﷺ visited him and said, 'O son of my uncle, seek the help of your Lord who has sent you to heal me.' The Prophet ﷺ then said, 'O Allah, cure my uncle.' Abu Talib responded as if he had become rejuvenated and said, 'Indeed, your Lord has sent you to be obeyed.' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'And you, O uncle, if you were to obey Allah, He would surely make others obey you.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Which supplication is the best?" He replied, "The supplication of a person for oneself."
[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Awf ibn Malik saw him. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, the people of my tribe have become jealous of me, so they took my son and my camels." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The family of Muhammad has such and such a number of household members, and I think he said nine, in which there is not even a sa' of food nor a mudd of food. So ask Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." He (the man) went back to his wife. She said, "What did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to you?" He informed her. It was not long until the man's camels and his son were returned to him with more than he had before. So he came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. The Prophet ﷺ ascended the pulpit and praised Allah and glorified Him, and ordered them to seek Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and to be interested in Him. Then he recited to them, "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect." [Quran 65:3]
[Machine] "A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'Oh Messenger of Allah, forgive my sins, forgive my sins.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'This statement has been said two or three times.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'Say: O Allah, Your forgiveness is wider than my sins, and Your mercy is more hopeful to me than my actions.' He said it, then the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Repeat it.' He repeated it, then the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Repeat it.' He repeated it, then the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Stand up, for Allah has forgiven you.' This hadith comes from narrators where the last among them are from Madinah, none of whom can be identified by their criticism, and they did not exclude him."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a man who was saying, "O most merciful of the merciful." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Ask for surely Allah has looked at you." Al-Fadl bin Isa al-Raqashi is the one who said this, and I fear that his (i.e., the man's) uncle Yazid bin Aban said it. However, I have found a witness for him in the hadith of Abu Umamah al-Bahili.
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah has an angel appointed over the one who says, 'O Most Merciful of the Merciful.' So whoever says it three times, the angel says, 'Indeed, the Most Merciful of the Merciful has accepted your supplication, so ask.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever wishes to have his supplication answered during times of difficulty and hardship, then let him increase his supplication in times of ease." This hadith has a strong chain of narration, and al-Bukhari referred to it with Abu Salih and Abu 'Amir al-Alhani, and I believe it is al-Hawzani, and he is truthful.
[Machine] Gabriel, peace be upon him, came to the Prophet, upon him be peace, in the most beautiful form that he had never appeared in before, laughing and giving glad tidings. He greeted the Prophet, saying, "Peace be upon you, O Muhammad." The Prophet replied, "And peace be upon you, O Gabriel." Gabriel said, "Indeed, Allah has sent me to you with a gift from the treasures of the Throne, which Allah has honored you with." The Prophet asked, "And what is this gift, O Gabriel?" Gabriel replied, "Say: O One who manifests beauty and conceals ugliness, O One who does not take account of the garment nor expose the defects, O Mighty in forgiving, O One who pardons gracefully, O One who extends His hands with mercy, O Companion of every secret and the end of every complaint, O Generous in forgiveness, O Great in beneficence, O Initiator of blessings before they are deserved, O Our Lord, O Our Master, O Our Protector, O the ultimate goal of our desires. I ask You, O Allah, not to burn my creation with fire." The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, asked, "What is the reward for these words?" Then he mentioned the rest of the narration after the supplication, at length.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, "What prevents any of you, when he knows the answer himself, from being cured of a disease or returning from a journey and saying Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah) by His might and glory, good deeds are completed?" Isa ibn Maymun, distinct from Qasim ibn Muhammad, narrated from Aisha and Isa is not accused of fabrication.

[Machine] A man from the Ansar, from the people of Qubaa, of the prophet ﷺ issued an invitation. So we went with him, when he finished eating and washed his hands (or said his hand), he said, "Praise be to Allah who feeds us and is not fed by us. He has guided us, nourished us, and given us drink. Every excellent trial has been a source of good for us. Praise be to Allah who is neither leaving, nor requiring compensation, nor is in need of us. Praise be to Allah who has given us food to eat, drink to quench our thirst, clothed us, guided us when we were astray, restored our sight when we were blind, and has favored us over many of those He has created. Praise be to Allah, Lord of all the worlds."

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said: When the caller calls for prayer, the gates of heaven are opened and the supplication is answered. So, whoever is inflicted with distress or hardship, let them be cautious of the caller. And when he says: "Allahu Akbar", say: "Allahu Akbar", and when he says: "Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah", say: "Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah", and when he says: "Hayya 'ala as-Salah", say: "Hayya 'ala as-Salah", and when he says: "Hayya 'ala al-Falah", say: "Hayya 'ala al-Falah". Then, say: "Allahumma rabba hadhihid da'watit-tammati, salatiqa al-mustajabati, mustajabatan laha, da'wati al-haqi, wa kalimati at-taqwa, ahina 'alayha wa amitna 'alayha, wa ab'athna 'alayha, waj'alna min khayri ahliha ahyaa wa amwatan". Then, ask Allah for your need.
[Machine] I saw the Prophet ﷺ holding the Tasbih (prayer beads). This was narrated by Al-A'mash from Ataa ibn As-Sa'ib.
[Machine] I saw the Prophet ﷺ holding the beads for reciting tasbih.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Adhere to glorification, exaltation, and sanctification, and do not be neglectful so as to forget the oneness of Allah. Cling to your fingers, for they will be questioned and will speak."
[Machine] The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم came to me and there were four thousand date pits in front of me. I was using them to make tasbeeh (to glorify Allah). He said, "O daughter of Huwayy! What is this?" I said, "I am making tasbeeh with them." He said, "I have been making tasbeeh since I ascended to your head more than this." I said, "Teach me, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Say, 'Subhanallah' (Glory be to Allah) the number of all the things He created."
Once Sa'd, with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, visited a woman in front of whom were some date-stones or pebbles which she was using as a rosary to glorify Allah. He (the Prophet) said: I tell you something which would be easier (or more excellent) for you than that. He said (it consisted of saying): "Glory be to Allah" as many times as the number of that which He has created in Heaven; "Glory be to Allah" as many times as the number of that which He has created on Earth; "Glory be to Allah" as many times as the number of that which He has created between them; "Glory be to Allah" as many times as the number of that which He is creating; "Allah is most great" a similar number of times; "Praise (be to Allah)" a similar number of times; and "There is no god but Allah" a similar number of times; "There is no might and no power except in Allah" a similar number of times. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1500)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanding with these words of alarm, "I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger, His punishment, the evil deeds of His servants, and the whispers of devils, and that they come near." Abdullah bin Umar and those who reached from his children taught them to him, so he recited them in front of his people. And whoever did not reach from them, he wrote them and hung them around his neck.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you goes to his bed, an angel and a devil come to him. The devil makes him open his mouth with evil, while the angel makes him open his mouth with good. If he remembers Allah, the devil goes away and the angel stays with him. When he wakes up, an angel and a devil come to him. The devil makes him open his mouth with evil, while the angel makes him open his mouth with good. If he says 'Alhamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah) who restored my soul to me after taking it in sleep, the devil goes away and the angel stays with him. If he gets up and prays, the angel keeps praying for goodness."

[Machine] The translation of the Arabic phrase is: "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would lie down in his bed, he would say, 'O Allah, forgive my sins, expel my Shaytan, remove the burden from my heart, make my scale heavy (with good deeds), and place me in the highest assembly.'"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited me when I was sick and said, "O Salman, may Allah heal your sickness, forgive your sins, and grant you health and strength until the end of your life."

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "No group of people gather together to remember Allah without sending blessings upon their Prophet ﷺ , except that this gathering becomes a source of blessings for them. And no group of people sit together without remembering Allah, except that this sitting becomes a source of regret for them."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever sends blessings upon me, Allah will send blessings upon him ten times, and will erase ten of his sins."
[Machine] Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I met Jibril (Gabriel) ﷺ who gave me glad tidings and said, 'Verily, your Lord says: Whoever supplicates upon you, I supplicate upon him, and whoever sends peace upon you, I send peace upon him.' So I prostrated in gratitude to Allah."
