[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "Whenever a group of people gather to mention Allah, the angels surround them, mercy envelops them, tranquility descends upon them, and Allah mentions them among those who are with Him. Allah extends His mercy until the last third of the night, then He descends to the lowest heaven and says: 'Is there anyone seeking forgiveness? Is there anyone asking for repentance? Is there anyone in need? Is there anyone seeking help?' Until dawn."

O Allah, forgive me, for You are the accepter of repentance.'"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "My nation has been granted five qualities in the month of Ramadan that no previous nation has been granted: the foul smell from the mouth of the fasting person is more pleasant to Allah than the scent of musk, the angels seek forgiveness for them until they break their fast, Allah adorns His Garden every day and then says, 'Soon my righteous servants will be rid of their wants and afflictions and will turn to You, and Satan's efforts against them will be in vain, so they will not reach what they used to reach before in other months.' and they will be forgiven on the last night.' It was asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, is it the Night of Decree?' He said, 'No, but the rewards of a worker are only given to him when he completes his work.'"

[Machine] Abu Qatadah Al-Faris, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent an army of leaders and said, "Zaid bin Harithah should take charge, and if Zaid is killed, then Ja'far should take charge, and if Ja'far is killed, then Abdullah bin Rawahah, the Ansari, should take charge." Ja'far stepped forward and said, "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! I have never feared being commanded by Zaid." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Proceed, for you do not know which of them is better." The army set out and stayed as long as Allah willed. Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ascended the pulpit and ordered the call for congregational prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A piece of news has reached me or a messenger has come with a message. It is doubtlessly Abdullah ibn Rawahah, who will inform you about your army. They set out until they encountered the enemy and Zaid was martyred. Seek forgiveness for him." The people sought forgiveness for him. Then, Ja'far bin Abi Talib took charge of the flag and fought the enemy until he was martyred. He was truly worthy of martyrdom and the people sought forgiveness for him. Then, Abdullah bin Rawahah took charge of the flag and stood firm until he was martyred. The people sought forgiveness for him. Then, Khalid bin Al-Walid, who was not a leader appointed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, took charge of the flag and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his fingers and said, "O Allah, he is a sword from Your swords. Support him." Abdur-Rahman said, "May I be sacrificed for you, support him on this day." On that day, Khalid was named the Sword of Allah. Then, the Prophet ﷺ said, "March forward and support your brothers. May none of you lag behind." The people went forward in intense heat, on foot and on mounts.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent an army led by commanders. He said, "Follow Zaid bin Haritha, and if he is martyred, then follow Jafar, and if he is martyred, then follow Abdullah bin Rawaha." Jafar stepped forward and said, "O Messenger of Allah, may I be sacrificed for you, my father and mother! I do not have a strong desire to be chosen over Zaid." The Prophet ﷺ said, "March forth, for you do not know in which matter goodness lies for you."

So they departed and stayed there as long as Allah willed. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ascended the pulpit and commanded the call to prayer to be made for congregational prayer. He said, "Shall I inform you about your army that has fought a battle? They advanced and met the enemy, and Zaid was martyred. Pray for his forgiveness." The people began to pray for him. Then Jafar bin Abu Talib took the flag and fought the enemy until he was martyred. Pray for his forgiveness." The people began to pray for him. After that, Abdullah bin Rawaha took the flag and fought the enemy until he was martyred. Pray for his forgiveness." The people began to pray for him. Then Khalid bin Al-Walid took the flag, even though he was not a commander, but he appointed himself as one. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised both of his hands and said, "O Allah, he is one of Your swords, therefore give him victory." From that day on, Khalid bin Al-Walid was called "the Sword of Allah."

[Machine] Abu Qatadah al-Ansari, the Persian messenger of Allah's Messenger ﷺ , narrated: Allah's Messenger ﷺ sent the army of the leaders and said, "Zaid bin Harithah is your leader. If Zaid is martyred, then Ja'far bin Abi Talib should take over. If Ja'far is martyred, then Abdullah bin Rawahah should step forward." Ja'far stood up and said, "By my father and mother! I have never been afraid to be assigned under Zaid." Zaid replied, "Go, for you do not know in which of the two is goodness for you." So they left and stayed as long as Allah willed. Then, Allah's Messenger ﷺ ascended the pulpit and ordered the congregational prayer to be called. He said, "Shall I inform you about your army, this warrior? They set off and encountered the enemy. Zaid was martyred, so seek forgiveness for him and people sought forgiveness for him." Ja'far bin Abi Talib took the banner and fought fiercely until he was martyred. He bore witness to him with martyrdom, so seek forgiveness for him. Then, Abdullah bin Rawahah took the flag and held his ground until he was martyred. Seek forgiveness for him too. Then, Khalid bin Al-Walid, who was not one of the leaders, took command upon himself. Then, Allah's Messenger ﷺ raised his two fingers and said, "O Allah! It is a sword among Your swords, so grant it victory." Then he said, "March forward and strengthen your brothers, and let no one hesitate." So the people went forth in intense heat, by foot and on horseback.

[Machine] Abu Ali, a man from the Banu Kahil tribe, narrated: Abu Musa al-Ash'ari delivered a sermon and said, "O people, beware of this shirk (associating partners with Allah), for it is more concealed than the crawl of an ant." Abdullah ibn Hazn and Qais ibn al-Mudarib stood up and said, "By Allah, we shall either refute what you have said or we will go to Umar for permission to leave." Abu Musa replied, "Rather, I will retract what I said. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once delivered a sermon and said, 'O people, beware of this shirk, for it is more concealed than the crawl of an ant.' They asked him, 'If it is more concealed than the crawl of an ant, O Messenger of Allah, how can we guard against it?' He replied, 'Say, O Allah, we seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You, and we seek Your forgiveness for what we do not know.'"

Duʿāʾ of seeking forgiveness taught to Abū Bakr to be said during Ṣalāh

that he said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, teach me a duʿāʾ that I may say in my prayer. He said: "Say: O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly and no one forgives sins but you, grant me forgiveness from you and have mercy on me for you are the Oft Forgiving Most Merciful."

And Yūnus said, "kabīran ˹instead of kathīran˺". It is narrated as Ḥasan (Good) by al-Ashyab; from Ibn Lahīʿah who said, "kabīran".

[Machine] Afterwards, indeed, Allah created the creation, not in need of their obedience, secure from their disobedience. And the people on that day are in different situations and opinions. The Arabs inhabit those residences, the people of Hajr, the people of Wabar, and the people of Dabar. They pass by them with the goodness of this world and the abundance of their livelihoods. They do not ask Allah as a group nor do they recite His dead book. Their dead are in the fire, and their lives are blind and impure, along with countless desired and forbidden things. So when Allah intended to spread His mercy upon them, He sent to them a messenger from among themselves, noble and caring, eager for the believers. Allah's blessings, peace, mercy, and blessings be upon him. This did not stop them from harming him in his body and labeling him with names. With him was a book from Allah, speaking, that is not established except by His command and is not eliminated except with His permission. So when he was commanded to be firm and was burdened with jihad, he accepted the command of Allah. His argument was cleared, his words were approved, his call was proclaimed, and he left this world pious and pure, following the path of his companion. Then Abu Bakr succeeded him, and he followed his example and followed his path. And the Arabs or those who did that from among them returned to their previous state, except for those who refused to accept them after the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. He would not accept from them except the one who was reconcilable. He drew out his swords from their scabbards, and set fire to their kindling. Then he defeated the people of truth, the people of falsehood, but he did not sever their limbs or shed their blood until he entered them into that from which they had separated and solidified them in that from which they had departed. He had previously received a portion of Allah's wealth and used it to quench his thirst. And an Ethiopian woman who breastfed a child for him. He felt a pang in his throat when he saw that before he passed away. He attributed it to his successor and left this world pious and pure, following the path of his two companions. Then, O Umar bin Al-Khattab, you are the son of this world. Its kings nurtured you and fed you. It grew you up and you sought its benefits. But when you became its ruler, you abandoned it and left it in ruins, except for what you provide from it. So praise be to Allah who showed us your deception and relieved our distress through you. So go forth and do not turn back, for surely nothing can exalt the truth, nor humiliate falsehood. I speak these words and seek forgiveness from Allah for myself and for the believing men and believing women. Abu Ayyub said, "Umar bin Abdul Aziz would say about something, Ibn Al-Ahtam said to me, 'Go forth and do not turn back.'"

[Machine] As the people of Yemen approached, Umar began to gather companions and asked them, "Is there anyone among you from Qaran?" Until a man from Qaran came to him and Umar asked, "Who are you?" They replied, "I am Qaran." Umar then held him by the collar and recognized him by his distinctive appearance. Umar asked him, "What is your name?" He replied, "My name is Uwais." Umar asked him, "Do you have a mother?" He said, "Yes." Umar asked, "Do you have any white spots on your body?" He replied, "Yes, I prayed to Allah to remove it from my body except for the size of a dirham, so that I may remember my Lord with it." Umar said to him, "Ask forgiveness for me." He replied, "You are more deserving to ask forgiveness for me. You are the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." Umar said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'The best follower is a man named Uwais Al-Qarni. He has a mother and he has white spots on his body. He supplicated to his Lord, and he was cured except for the size of a dirham on his shin, which he uses to remember his Lord with.'" Umar then requested forgiveness from him. Uwais went among the people, but Umar did not know where he went. Uwais arrived in Kufa and we used to gather in a circle to remember Allah, and he would sit among us. When he mentioned something, it remained fixed in our hearts, and no other speech could take its place. One day, I lost him, so I asked my companion, "What happened to the man who used to join us?" He said, "Who are you referring to?" I asked, "Who is that?" He said, "That is Uwais Al-Qarni." I then found out where he was staying and I went to see him. I said to him, "May Allah have mercy on you, where have you been and why did you leave us?" He replied, "I did not have a garment, so it prevented me from coming to you." I then took off my own garment and threw it to him. He threw it back to me saying, "I delayed wearing it for an hour." Then he said, "If I had taken this garment from you and worn it, my people would have seen me in it, and they would have thought, 'This is the one they accuse of being a self-indulgent.' So I took off my own garment and threw it back to him and said, "Leave until I hear what they say." So he wore the garment and we left together. When he passed by his people's gathering, they said, "Look at this self-indulgent one, he has not stopped with anyone until he deceived him and took his garment." I said to him, "Are you not ashamed? Why did you harm him?" By Allah, I presented it to him and he refused to accept it." Uwais replied, "Delegations from various Arab tribes came to Umar and their leader said to him, 'O Umar bin Khattab, is there anyone among you from Qaran?' Umar asked him, 'Are you their leader?' He replied, 'Yes, I am.' Umar then asked him, 'Do you know a man from Qaran named Uwais who has such and such characteristics?' The leader of the delegation said, 'O Amir-ul-Mu'minin, why do you mention this person and his matters?' Umar said to him, 'May your mother be bereaved of you! I encountered him two or three times.' Then Umar said, 'When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned him to us, he said, 'A man named Uwais bin 'Amir from Qaran will come to you, and he has such and such characteristics.' When the man came, he did not start with anyone before Umar, so he went to him and asked for forgiveness. Umar asked him, 'What prayer have you made for me?' He replied, 'Umar said such and such to me.' Umar said, 'I am not asking for forgiveness for you until you make three promises.' Uwais asked, 'What are they?' Umar said, 'Do not afflict me with what remains for you, and do not inform anyone about what Umar said to you, and forget the third one.'"

[Machine] "I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the early days of his prophethood in Makkah. He was at that time in a state of concealment. I asked him, 'Who are you?' He replied, 'I am a prophet.' I asked, 'What is a prophet?' He said, 'I am the Messenger of Allah.' I asked, 'Did Allah send you?' He replied, 'Yes.' I asked, 'With what did He send you?' He said, 'To worship Allah alone and to break idols and false religions, and to maintain family ties.' I said, 'Yes, indeed. What did He send you with?' I asked, 'Who follows you in this?' He said, 'Slave and free, meaning Abu Bakr and Bilal.' Umar used to say, 'I was a quarter or a fourth of Islam when I accepted Islam.' I said, 'Shall I follow you, O Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'No, but the truth will come to your people. When you hear that I have left, follow me.' So, I caught up with my people and I anticipated his news of departure and arrival until a group from Yathrib (Madina) came and I met them. I asked them about the news and they said, 'The Messenger of Allah has left Makkah for Madina.' I asked, 'Has he arrived there?' They replied, 'Yes.' I then proceeded until I reached him. I said, 'Do you recognize me, O Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'Yes, you are the man who came to me in Makkah.' I began to observe his seclusion and when he was alone, I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me about what Allah has taught you and make it concise.' He said, 'Ask me about anything.' I said, 'During which part of the night should I perform the night prayer?' He replied, 'The last part of the night. And pray as much as you wish because the prayer is witnessed and recorded until you pray the dawn prayer. Then shorten your prayer until the sun rises and its rays are like the length of a spear or a pair of spears. Because at that time, the disbelievers prostrate to it. Then, pray as much as you wish, for the prayer is witnessed and recorded until the shadow of your spear becomes equal to its length. Then, shorten your prayer because Hellfire is kindled and its gates are opened. When the sun declines, pray as much as you wish, for the prayer is witnessed and recorded until you pray the afternoon prayer. Then, shorten your prayer until the sun sets, for it sets between the two horns of Satan and the disbelievers prostrate to it. When you perform ablution, wash your hands, for when you wash your hands, your sins leave from the sides of your arms. Then, when you wipe your head, your sins leave from the tips of your hair. And when you wash your feet, your sins leave from your feet. If you remain seated in your place, you will have a share of your ablution. If you stand up and remember your Lord and praise Him and perform two raka'ahs facing the Qiblah, with your heart, you will be free from your sins as on the day your mother gave birth to you.' I said, 'O Umar, I know what I am saying. You are saying something great.' He said, 'By Allah, my age has increased and my death is near, and I am not in need of lying. Even if I had heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ only once or twice, I would have conveyed it. But I have heard it more than that. This is how Abu Salamah narrated it from him, from Abu Umamah, except for any possible error or addition. And Muslim has recorded some of these words from the hadith of Nadr ibn Muhammad al-Jurashi, from Ikrimah ibn Ammar, from Shaddad ibn Abdullah, from Abu Umamah.' Umar ibn Abbas said, 'And the hadith of Abbas ibn Salim is more comprehensive and complete than the hadith of Ikrimah ibn Ammar.'"

[Machine] And he said, "What do you say?" So we said, "Indeed, our people worship idols, and indeed Allah has sent a Messenger to us, so we believed in him and affirmed him." So Najashi said to them, "Are they your slaves?" They said, "No." He said, "Then they are free from any debt from you?" They said, "No." He said, "So leave them alone." So we left his presence. 'Amr bin Al-Aas said, "Indeed, these people say about 'Isa (Jesus) what you do not say." He said, "If they do not say about 'Isa what I say, I will not leave them in my land for a moment of the day." He said, "So he sent for us, and his invitation was tougher on us than the first. So he said, "What does your companion say about 'Isa ibn Maryam (Jesus, son of Mary)?" So we said, "He says he is the Spirit of Allah and His word, which He bestowed upon the Virgin Mary." He said, "So he sent for them and said, "Summon this priest and this monk." So people from among them came to him, and he said, "What do you say about 'Isa ibn Maryam?" They said, "You know best." He said, "So what do you say?" Najashi took something from the ground, and said, "This is what 'Isa says. He does not exceed what these people say." Then he said to them, "Does anyone harm you?" They said, "Yes." So he commanded a caller to announce, "Whoever harms any of them will be granted an allowance of four dirhams." Then he said, "Is this enough for you?" They said, "No." So he doubled it. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ emigrated to Al-Madinah and appeared there, we said to Najashi, "Indeed, our companion has left for Al-Madinah and has appeared there, and he emigrated and killed those whom we informed you about, and we wanted to join him." So he provided us with what we needed and said, "Inform your companion of what I have done for you, and this is my Messenger with you, and I testify that there is no god but Allah, and that you are the Messenger of Allah." So tell him to seek forgiveness for me." Ja'far said, "So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up, performed ablution, then he prayed three times, 'O Allah, forgive Najashi.' And the Muslims said, 'Ameen.' Ja'far said, "I said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , 'Leave now and inform your companion about what you have seen of the Prophet ﷺ .' And the wording is that of the hadith of Muhammad bin Adam."

[Machine] I heard someone speaking and I liked him, so I introduced him to my companions and said, "Do you know a man who used to sit with us like this and this?" A man from the people said, "Yes, I know him, he is Uwais al-Qarni." He said, "Do you know where he lives?" He said, "Yes." He said, "So I went with him until I reached his house. I said to him, 'O brother, what keeps you away from us?' He said, 'Poverty.' And his companions used to mock him and hurt him. He said, 'Take this garment and wear it.' He said, 'No, don't do that, for if they see it on me, they will hurt me.' So I continued with him until he wore it and came out to them. They said, 'Who do you see has deceived him from his garment?' He said, 'So he came and put it down.' He said, 'Do you see?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'I came to the gathering and said, 'What do you want from this man? You have hurt him.' He used to borrow a garment from me once and wear it once.' Umar said, 'Did anyone from the Qaranis come here?' Uwais said, 'So that man came.' He said, 'Where are you from?' He said, 'From Yemen.' He said, 'What is your name?' He said, 'Uwais.' He said, 'Who did you leave behind in Yemen?' He said, 'My mother.' He said, 'Was there any whiteness in you that you invoked Allah to remove from you?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Did you ask Allah to remove it from you?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Then seek forgiveness for me.' He said, 'Would Uwais seek forgiveness for someone like me, O Amir al-Mu'minin?' He said, 'So he sought forgiveness for him.' He said, 'I said to him, 'You, O brother, do not leave me.' He said, 'So he became smooth towards me.' He said, 'I was informed that Uwais has come to you in Kufa.' He said, 'So that man who used to mock him humiliated him and said, 'What is this among us and we do not know him?' Umar said, 'Indeed.' The man said, 'There is a man among us named Uwais who is mocked.' He said, 'Find him and bring him to me.' He said, 'So that man came to him and said, 'Indeed, the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, 'A man will come to you from Yemen whose name is Uwais, he will not leave Yemen except for the sake of his mother, and he had a white spot on him, so he invoked Allah and He removed it except for the size of a dirham or a dinar. So whoever among you meets him, ask him to seek forgiveness for you.'" He said, 'So he came to us.' He said, 'I said to him, 'From where are you?' He said, 'From Yemen.' I said, 'What is your name?' He said, 'Uwais.' I said, 'Who did you leave in Yemen?' He said, 'My mother.' I said, 'Was there any whiteness in you that you invoked Allah to remove from you?' He said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Did you ask Allah to remove it from you?' He said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Seek forgiveness for me.' He said, 'Would Uwais seek forgiveness for someone like me, O Amir al-Mu'minin?' He said, 'So he sought forgiveness for him.' He said, 'I said, 'You, O brother, do not leave me.' He said, 'So he became smooth towards me.' He said, 'I was told that Uwais has come to you in Kufa.' He said, 'So that man who used to mock him humiliated him and said, 'What is this among us and we do not know him?' He said, 'Indeed, there is a man among us named Uwais who is mocked.' He said, 'Recognize him and do not recognize him.' He said, 'So that man came to him before his family came. He said to him, 'Uwais, what is this habit of yours? What is the matter with you?' He said, 'I heard Umar saying such and such about you, so seek forgiveness for me, O Uwais.' He said, 'I will not do that until you promise me that you will not mock me anymore and that you will not mention to anyone what you heard from Umar.' He said, 'So he sought forgiveness for him.'

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said during his illness, "Pour seven buckets of water from seven different wells on me, until I go out to the people and make a pledge to them." So, we sat him in a container for Hafsah, his wife, and poured water on him in abundance or sprinkled it on him from Mohammad bin Ishaq. He found relief and went out and climbed the pulpit, praised Allah and spoke highly of Him, sought forgiveness for the martyrs of Uhud, and prayed for them. Then he said, "As for what follows, the Ansar, who sheltered me and supported me, have some faults. Honor their noble people and overlook their wrongdoers, except for certain limits. Indeed, a servant of Allah was given the choice between this world and what lies with Allah, so he chose what lies with Allah." Satan said, "Do you tempt them with seeking forgiveness?" They said, "Never! That is something they associate with faith in God." Satan said, "I will stay among them and encourage them towards desires that they will not seek forgiveness for from Allah." So, he spread among them worldly desires.

Zaid stood up and sat in the Prophet's gathering, and he began to talk to them about the Prophet ﷺ when meat was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as a gift. Zaid went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I have conveyed the message to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Return to them, for they have eaten meat after you." Zaid came back and said, "I have already informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." The people said, "We did not eat any meat, and this incident has happened. Come with us to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that we may ask him about this." So they went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we have sent to you regarding the meat that was brought to you, and Zaid claimed that they have eaten meat, but by Allah, we have not eaten any meat." She fulfilled her pledge, then she returned to her home and was visited in her dream. [Machine] I heard Khalid bin Al-Walid saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me on a military expedition, and with me was Ammar bin Yasir. We encountered a group of people, some of whom were from a household that had embraced Islam. Ammar said, 'These people have embraced monotheism.' I did not pay attention to his words, and as a result, they suffered the same fate as others. Ammar then began blaming me, saying that if I had informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this situation, he would have come to their aid. So, I went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him about what had happened. When the Prophet ﷺ saw me, he did not show any support and turned away with tears in his eyes. He called me and said, 'O Khalid, do not insult Ammar. Whoever insults Ammar, Allah insults him, and whoever hates Ammar, Allah hates him. And whoever belittles Ammar, Allah belittles him.' [Machine] Khalid ibn Al-Walid sent me with the messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition, and we encountered a group of people who professed their oneness in faith. 'Ammar said, "These people have captured us because of their belief in oneness." I did not pay attention to 'Ammar's words, but I said to myself, "Shall I not inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" When we arrived before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , I complained to him. When the Prophet ﷺ saw that he was not seeking retribution from me, he turned away and his eyes were filled with tears. The Prophet ﷺ then said to me, "O Khalid, do not curse 'Ammar. Whoever curses 'Ammar, Allah will curse him, and whoever hates 'Ammar, Allah will hate him, and whoever regards 'Ammar as foolish, Allah will regard him as foolish." Khalid then said, "O Messenger of Allah, seek forgiveness for me, by Allah, nothing prevented me from loving him except my ridicule of him." Khalid said, "There is nothing more fearful in my sins in my eyes than my ridicule of 'Ammar."

[Machine] Never has a day come upon me that was more difficult for me than the day when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me with some of his companions and ordered me regarding them. Among the people was 'Ammaar, and we encountered a group of people, among whom were Muslim families. 'Ammaar spoke to me about them, and some of the Muslims said, "Leave them alone." I said, "No, by Allah, I will not do so until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sees them and gives his opinion about them." This angered 'Ammaar, and when I reached the Prophet ﷺ , I sought permission to speak to him while 'Ammaar sought permission as well. Permission was granted to him, and 'Ammaar entered and said, "O Messenger of Allah, did you not see what Khalid did and what he did?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, if it was not for your gathering, Ibn Sumayyah would not have insulted me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to me, "Did you not answer the man?" I said, "There was nothing preventing me from answering him except that it would have belittled him." This angered the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he said, "Whoever hates 'Ammaar, Allah hates him, and whoever insults 'Ammaar, Allah insults him, and whoever belittles 'Ammaar, Allah belittles him." I then left the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and did not stop seeking forgiveness for myself from 'Ammaar.

[Machine] I have not done a deed that is more frightening to me than the possibility of being admitted to the Fire because of what Ammar did. So we said, "O Abu Sulaiman, what did he do?" He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me with a group of his companions to a village in the Arabian Peninsula, and I encountered them. Among them were Muslim families. Ammar spoke to me about some of his companions and said, 'Send them.' I said, 'No, not until I bring them to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If he wishes, he will send them, and if he wishes, he will deal with them as he pleases.' So I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Ammar sought permission to enter and he was granted. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Leave, O Ammar.' So he left while he was crying. He said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not support me against Khalid.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, 'Did you not answer the man?' So I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I did not respond to him except because of his insignificance.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever belittles Ammar, Allah will belittle him, and whoever insults Ammar, Allah will insult him, and whoever humiliates Ammar, Allah will humiliate him.'
