48.2 [Machine] The Virtues of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq
"Messenger of Allah ﷺ in his fatal illness came out with a piece of cloth tied round his head and sat on the pulpit. After thanking and praising Allah he said, "There is no one who had done more favor to me with life and property than Abu Bakr bin Abi Quhafa. If I were to take a Khalil, I would certainly have taken Abu- Bakr but the Islamic brotherhood is superior. Close all the small doors in this mosque except that of Abu Bakr." (Using translation from Bukhārī 467)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the most trustworthy among the people in my company and with regards to their wealth is Abu Bakr. If I were to take a close friend, I would have taken Abu Bakr as a friend. However, we are brothers in Islam. There is not a single khawfah (green stalk) in the masjid except it is the khawfah of Abu Bakr."
If I were to choose a bosom friend I would have definitely chosen Abu Bakr as my bosom friend, but he is my brother and my companion and Allah, the Exalted and Gliorious. has taken your brother and companion (meaning Prophet himself) as a friend. (Using translation from Muslim 2383a)
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I free myself of the friendship of every Khalil, and if I were to take a Khalil then I would have taken Ibn Abi Quhafah as a Khalil. And indeed your companion is Allah's Khalil." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3655)
"It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, which of the people is most beloved to you?' He said: "Aishah.' It was asked, 'And among men?' He said: 'Her father.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 101)
Who fasted among you today? Abu Bakr (Allah be pleased with him) replied: I did. He (the Prophet again) said: Who among you followed a bier today? Abu Bakr (Allah be pleased with him) replied: I did. He (the Prophet again) said: Who among you fed a poor man today? Abu Bakr (Allah he pleased with him) replied: I did. He (again) said: Who among you visited an invalid today? Abu Bakr (Allah be pleased with him) said: I did. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Anyone in whom (these good deeds) are combined will certainly enter paradise. (Using translation from Muslim 1028)
"I heard the Messenger of Allah say" 'Whoever spends on a pair of things in the cause of Allah, he will be called from the gates of Paradise: O slave of Allah, this is good for you. Paradise had (several) gates. Whoever is one of the people of Salah, he will be called from the gate of prayer. Whoever is one of the people of Jihad, will be called from the gate of Jihad. Whoever is one of the people of charity will be called from the gate of charity. And whoever is one of the people of fasting will be called from the gate of Ar-Rayyan." Abu Bakr said: "Is there any need for anyone to be called from all of these gates? Will anyone be called from all of them, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Yes, and I hope that you will be among them." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2439)
[Machine] "Omar said, 'Two swords in one sheath are not suitable.' Then he took the hand of Abu Bakr and said, 'Who possesses these three?' [When he said to his companion].' Who is his companion? [When they both were in the cave].' Who are they both? [When he said, 'Indeed, Allah is with us].' With whom is he? Then he pledged allegiance to him and said, 'Pledge allegiance, as the people have pledged allegiance, to the best and most beautiful of them.'"
"The Messenger of Allah said: 'The wealth of none of you has benefited me as much as the wealth of Abu Bakr.'" Abu Bakr wept and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I and my wealth are only for you, O Messenger of Allah.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 94)
48.3 [Machine] The Virtue of Abu Bakr and Umar
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "A man was driving a cow and wanted to ride it. The cow said, 'We were not created for this purpose. We were created to be plowed on.' Those around him said, 'Glory be to Allah, glory be to Allah.' The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'I and Abu Bakr and Umar have believed in it, and others are to come.'"
"While a man was with his sheep, a wolf came and took one sheep. The shepherd followed it to take it back. The wolf said, 'How will you do on the Day of Seveah (Judgment Day), when there is no shepherd for them except me?' Those around him said, 'Glory be to Allah, glory be to Allah.' He said, 'I and Abu Bakr and Umar have believed in it, and others are to come.'"
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ approached the people and said, "While a man was herding a cow, he intended to ride it and it approached him." The cow said, "We were not created for this purpose, rather we were created for plowing." The people around him said, "Glory be to Allah! The cow spoke!" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I believe in it, and Abu Bakr and Umar do so as well, and they are not the only ones." A man said, "While I was with my sheep, a wolf came and took a sheep. I chased after it and took it back from him. He said to me, 'How can she belong to you on a day when she has no other shepherd than me?'" They said, "Glory be to Allah! The wolf spoke!" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I believe in it, and Abu Bakr and Umar do so as well, and they are not the only ones."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , finished praying and turned towards his companions and said, "While a man was herding his cow, it appeared to him that he could ride it. So, it came towards him." The man said, "We were not created for this, we were only created for farming." Then, those around him said, "Glory be to Allah, glory be to Allah." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Indeed, I and Abu Bakr and Umar believed in Him." And while a man was with his flock, a wolf came and took one of his sheep. He looked for it and when he found it, he grabbed it and it came towards him. He said, "Who else has sheep today that no one can shepherd except me?" Those around him said, "Glory be to Allah, glory be to Allah." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Indeed, I and Abu Bakr and Umar believed in Him."
A person had been driving an ox loaded with luggage. The ox looked towards him and said: I have not been created for this but for lands (i. e. for ploughing the land and for drawing out water from the wells for the purpose of irrigating the lands). The people said with surprise and awe: Hallowed be Allah, does the ox speak? Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I believe it and so do Abu Bakr and 'Umar. Abu Huraira reported Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: A shepherd was tendirig the flock when a wolf came there and took away one goat. Tile shepherd pursued it (the wolf) and rescued it (the goat) from that (wolf). The wolf looked towards him and said: Who would save it on the day when there will be no shepherd except me? Thereupon people said: Hallowed be Allah I Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I believe in it and so do Abu Bakr and Umar believe. (Using translation from Muslim 2388a)
When ʿUmar bin al Khattab ؓ was placed on his bier, the people gathered around him, praying and invoking blessings upon him before [the bier] was lifted up, and I was among them. No one alarmed me except a man who seized me by the shoulder from behind. I turned and saw that it was ‘Ali bin Abi Talib ؓ . He prayed for mercy for ‘Umar ؓ , then he said: You have not left behind anyone more dear to me, with the like of whose deeds I would hope to meet Allah, than you. By Allah, I think that Allah will most certainly join you to your two companions, and that is because I often heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, ʿAbu Bakr, ʿUmar and I went; Abu Bakr, ʿUmar and I came in; Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and I went out.” So I think that Allah will most certainly join you to them. (Using translation from Aḥmad 898)
I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "While I was sleeping, I saw myself standing at a well, on it there was a bucket. I drew water from the well as much as Allah wished. Then Ibn Abi Quhafa (i.e. Abu Bakr) took the bucket from me and brought out one or two buckets (of water) and there was weakness in his drawing the water. May Allah forgive his weakness for him. Then the bucket turned into a very big one and Ibn Al-Khattab took it over and I had never seen such a mighty person amongst the people as him in performing such hard work, till the people drank to their satisfaction and watered their camels that knelt down there." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3664)

Who amongst people are dearest to you? He said: A'isha. He then said: Who amongst men? He said: Her father, and I said: And who next? He said: Umar. He then enumerated some other men. (Using translation from Muslim 2384)

He replied, "This belongs to Umar ibn Al-Khattab, and I intended to enter it, but then I remembered your jealousy." So Umar said, "By my father and mother, O Messenger of Allah, do you feel jealous?"
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "I entered Paradise and saw in it a palace or a house." So I asked, "Whose is this?" They said, "It belongs to Umar ibn Al-Khattab." I wanted to enter it, so I mentioned your jealousy, O Abu Hafs, and I did not enter it. So Umar cried and said, "Are you jealous of me, O Messenger of Allah?"
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: (I saw in a dream that) I entered Paradise, and behold, there was a palace built of gold! I asked, 'For whom is this palace?' They (the angels) replied, 'For a man from the Quraish.' " The Prophet added, "O Ibn Al-Khattab! Nothing stopped me from entering it except your Ghira." ʿUmar said, "How dare I think of my Ghira being offended by you, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" (Using translation from Bukhārī 7024)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "I entered Jannah (Paradise) and there, I saw a palace made of gold." I asked, "Whose palace is this?" They said, "It belongs to a young man from the Quraysh (tribe)." I thought it was me, so I asked, "And who is he?" They said, "It is Umar ibn al-Khattab." 8074 'Amr ibn 'Uthman told us, Muhammad ibn Harb narrated to me from al-Zubaydi from al-Zuhri.
Once ʿUmar asked the leave to see Messenger of Allah ﷺ in whose company there were some Quraishi women who were talking to him and asking him for more financial support raising their voices. When ʿUmar asked permission to enter the women got up (quickly) hurrying to screen themselves. When Messenger of Allah ﷺ admitted ʿUmar, Messenger of Allah ﷺ was smiling, ʿUmar asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! May Allah keep you in happiness always." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I am astonished at these women who were with me. As soon as they heard your voice, they hastened to screen themselves." ʿUmar said, "O Allah's Apostle! You have more right to be feared by them." Then he addressed (those women) saying, "O enemies of your own souls! Do you fear me and not Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" They replied. "Yes, for you are a fearful and fierce man as compared with Messenger of Allah ﷺ." On that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said (to ʿUmar), "By Him in Whose Hands my life is, whenever Satan sees you taking a path, he follows a path other than yours." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3294)

48.4 [Machine] The virtues of Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman
[Machine] He informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting on a wall in the city, leaning his feet towards the well. Abu Bakr knocked on the door and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told him to let him in and give him glad tidings of Paradise. So he did, and Abu Bakr entered and leaned his feet. Then Umar knocked on the door and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told him to let him in and give him glad tidings of Paradise. So he did. Then Uthman knocked on the door and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told him to let him in and give him glad tidings of Paradise, and that he will face a trial.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered a wall of the city and said to Bilal, "Hold the door for me." Abu Bakr came and sought permission, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting on the ground, leaning against a mound with his feet crossed. Bilal came and said, "This is Abu Bakr seeking permission." He (the Messenger) said, "Grant him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise." Abu Bakr came and sat with him on the ground, putting his feet on the mound. Then he knocked on the door. Bilal came and said, "This is Umar seeking permission." He (the Messenger) said, "Grant him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise." He came and sat with him on the ground, putting his feet on the mound. Then he knocked on the door. Bilal came and said, "This is Uthman seeking permission." He (the Messenger) said, "Grant him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise, along with a test."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was in a wall when a man sought permission and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Grant him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise". So I granted him permission and gave him glad tidings of Paradise. Then Abu Bakr sought permission and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Grant him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise". Then Umar sought permission and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Grant him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise in the face of affliction". So I granted him permission and gave him glad tidings of Paradise and informed him of what he said. He said, "Allah is the One sought for help". [306] 8079 Ubaidullah ibn Sa'id informed us that Yahya informed us that Ibn Abi 'Aruba told us.
One day the Prophet ﷺ said: Which of you had dream? A man said: It is I. I saw as though a scale descended from the sky. You and AbuBakr were weighed and you were heavier; AbuBakr and Umar were weighed and AbuBakr was heavier: Umar and Uthman were weighed and Umar was heavier; than the scale was taken up. we saw signs of dislike on the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4634)
48.5 [Machine] The virtues of Ali
[Machine] I heard Zaid ibn Arqam saying, "The first person who prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said in another place, 'The first person who embraced Islam was Ali.'"
[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went for the Battle of Tabuk, he left Ali behind in Medina. People criticized Ali and disliked his company. So Ali followed the Prophet ﷺ until he caught up with him on the way. Ali said to the Messenger of Allah, 'O Messenger of Allah, you left me in Medina among the weak and the women until they criticized me and disliked my company.' The Prophet ﷺ said to him, 'O Ali, I left you to take care of my family. Are you not pleased to be to me like Aaron was to Moses, except that there is no prophet after me?'"
And narrated Sad that the Prophet ﷺ said to 'Ali, "Will you not be pleased from this that you are to me like Aaron was to Moses?" (Using translation from Bukhārī 3706)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying to Ali, "You are to me like Harun (Aaron) was to Musa (Moses), except that there will be no prophet after me." He said, "Yes, I heard him." I said, "Did you see him put his fingers in his ears?" He said, "Yes, or else he covered them."
Messenger of Allah, are you leaving me behind amongst women and children? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Aren't you satisfied with being unto me what Aaron was unto Moses but with this exception that there would be no prophet after me? (Using translation from Muslim 2404b)
And narrated Sad that the Prophet ﷺ said to 'Ali, "Will you not be pleased from this that you are to me like Aaron was to Moses?" (Using translation from Bukhārī 3706)
that the Prophet ﷺ said to 'Ali: "You are to me in the position that Harun was to Musa, except that there is no Prophet after me." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3730)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever I am his guardian, Ali is his guardian."
[Machine] "I went with Ali to Yemen, and I saw from him signs of exhaustion. So, I went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned Ali to him, but I belittled him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became furious, and his face changed. He said, 'O Buraida, am I not more deserving of the believers than themselves?' I said, 'Yes, Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Whoever I am his master, then Ali is his master.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Ali is from me and I am from him, and he is the guardian of every believer after me."
"I heard the Messenger of Allah say: ''Ali is part of me and I am part of him, and no one will represent me except 'Ali.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 119)
[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from the Farewell Pilgrimage and stayed at Ghadir Khumm, he ordered for a platform to be prepared. Then, he said, "It seems that I have been summoned, so I have responded. I have left among you two weighty things; one of them is greater than the other: the Book of Allah and my progeny, my Ahlul-Bayt. Look how you will treat them after me. Verily, they will not part from each other until they return to me at the Pond (of Al-Kawthar)." Then he said, "Indeed, Allah is my Master and I am the guardian of every believer." He took the hand of Ali and said, "Whoever I am his master, then Ali is his master. O Allah, be a friend to his friends and an enemy to his enemies." I said to Zaid, "Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "There was no man present at Ghadir except that he saw and heard this with his own eyes and ears."
On the day of Khaibar, Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Tomorrow I will give this flag to a man through whose hands Allah will give us victory. He loves Allah and His Apostle, and he is loved by Allah and His Apostle." The people remained that night, wondering as to who would be given it. In the morning the people went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and everyone of them was hopeful to receive it (i.e. the flag). The Prophet said, "Where is ʿAli bin Abi Talib?" It was said, "He is suffering from eye trouble O Allah's Apostle." He said, "Send for him." ʿAli was brought and Messenger of Allah ﷺ spat in his eye and invoked good upon him. So ʿAli was cured as if he never had any trouble. Then the Prophet ﷺ gave him the flag. ʿAli said "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I will fight with them till they become like us." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Proceed and do not hurry. When you enter their territory, call them to embrace Islam and inform them of Allah's Rights which they should observe, for by Allah, even if a single man is led on the right path (of Islam) by Allah through you, then that will be better for you than the nice red camels. (Using translation from Bukhārī 4210)

[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ said, 'I will give the flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, or Allah and His Messenger love him.' So, he called for Ali while he was blind in both eyes, and Allah opened his eyes."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Today, I will give the flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love." The people became eager and asked, "Where is Ali?" They were told that he was suffering from eye pain. The Prophet called for him and spat in his hands. Then, he wiped Ali's eyes with his blessed hands and handed him the flag. On that day, Allah granted Ali victory.
[Machine] We were with the Prophet ﷺ and there were people sitting with him. Ali entered, and when he entered, they left. And when they left, they muttered to one another, saying, "By Allah, he did not make us leave and bring him in." So they returned and entered again. The Prophet ﷺ then said, "By Allah, I did not bring him in and make you leave. Rather, Allah brought him in and made you leave."
'Ali observed: By Him Who split up the seed and created something living, the Apostle (may peace and blessings be upon him) gave me a promise that no one but a believer would love me, and none but a hypocrite would nurse grudge against me. (Using translation from Muslim 78)
I heard Abu Dhar swearing that the following Holy verse:-- "These two opponents (believers and disbelievers) disputing with each other about their Lord," (22.19) was revealed concerning those men who fought on the day of Badr, namely, Hamza, ʿAli, Ubaida bin Al-Harith, ʿUtba and Shaiba----the two sons of Rabiʿa-- and Al-Walid bin ʿUtba. (Using translation from Bukhārī 3969)

[Machine] "On the authority of the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The caliphate in my nation will be for thirty years, then there will be kingship after that.' He said, 'So we calculated, and we found Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali."
