A person had been driving an ox loaded with luggage. The ox looked towards him and said: I have not been created for this but for lands (i. e. for ploughing the land and for drawing out water from the wells for the purpose of irrigating the lands). The people said with surprise and awe: Hallowed be Allah, does the ox speak? Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I believe it and so do Abu Bakr and 'Umar. Abu Huraira reported Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: A shepherd was tendirig the flock when a wolf came there and took away one goat. Tile shepherd pursued it (the wolf) and rescued it (the goat) from that (wolf). The wolf looked towards him and said: Who would save it on the day when there will be no shepherd except me? Thereupon people said: Hallowed be Allah I Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I believe in it and so do Abu Bakr and Umar believe. (Using translation from Muslim 2388a)

nasai-kubra:8061Muḥammad b. Ādam > Ibn al-Mubārak > ʿUmar b. Saʿīd > Ibn Abū Mulaykah > Ibn ʿAbbās

When ʿUmar bin al Khattab ؓ was placed on his bier, the people gathered around him, praying and invoking blessings upon him before [the bier] was lifted up, and I was among them. No one alarmed me except a man who seized me by the shoulder from behind. I turned and saw that it was ‘Ali bin Abi Talib ؓ . He prayed for mercy for ‘Umar ؓ , then he said: You have not left behind anyone more dear to me, with the like of whose deeds I would hope to meet Allah, than you. By Allah, I think that Allah will most certainly join you to your two companions, and that is because I often heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, ʿAbu Bakr, ʿUmar and I went; Abu Bakr, ʿUmar and I came in; Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and I went out.” So I think that Allah will most certainly join you to them. I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "While I was sleeping, I saw myself standing at a well, on it there was a bucket. I drew water from the well as much as Allah wished. Then Ibn Abi Quhafa (i.e. Abu Bakr) took the bucket from me and brought out one or two buckets (of water) and there was weakness in his drawing the water. May Allah forgive his weakness for him. Then the bucket turned into a very big one and Ibn Al-Khattab took it over and I had never seen such a mighty person amongst the people as him in performing such hard work, till the people drank to their satisfaction and watered their camels that knelt down there." Once ʿUmar asked the leave to see Messenger of Allah ﷺ in whose company there were some Quraishi women who were talking to him and asking him for more financial support raising their voices. When ʿUmar asked permission to enter the women got up (quickly) hurrying to screen themselves. When Messenger of Allah ﷺ admitted ʿUmar, Messenger of Allah ﷺ was smiling, ʿUmar asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! May Allah keep you in happiness always." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I am astonished at these women who were with me. As soon as they heard your voice, they hastened to screen themselves." ʿUmar said, "O Allah's Apostle! You have more right to be feared by them." Then he addressed (those women) saying, "O enemies of your own souls! Do you fear me and not Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" They replied. "Yes, for you are a fearful and fierce man as compared with Messenger of Allah ﷺ." On that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said (to ʿUmar), "By Him in Whose Hands my life is, whenever Satan sees you taking a path, he follows a path other than yours." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3294)
