Ibn Abbas said to me and to his son Ali, "Go to Abu Sa'id and listen to what he narrates." So we went and found him in a garden looking after it. He picked up his Rida', wore it and sat down and started narrating till the topic of the construction of the mosque reached.

He said: "We were carrying one adobe at a time while Ammar was carrying two. The Prophet ﷺ saw him and started removing the dust from his body and said: 'May mercy be upon Ammar, the rebellious group will kill him while he will be inviting them to Jannah and they will invite him to the Hellfire.'" Ammar said, "I seek refuge with Allah from affliction."

قَالَ لِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَلاِبْنِهِ عَلِيٍّ انْطَلِقَا إِلَى أَبِي سَعِيدٍ فَاسْمَعَا مِنْ حَدِيثِهِ فَانْطَلَقْنَا فَإِذَا هُوَ فِي حَائِطٍ يُصْلِحُهُ فَأَخَذَ رِدَاءَهُ فَاحْتَبَى ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُنَا حَتَّى أَتَى ذِكْرُ بِنَاءِ الْمَسْجِدِ

فَقَالَ كُنَّا نَحْمِلُ لَبِنَةً لَبِنَةً وَعَمَّارٌ لَبِنَتَيْنِ لَبِنَتَيْنِ فَرَآهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَيَنْفُضُ التُّرَابَ عَنْهُ وَيَقُولُ وَيْحَ عَمَّارٍ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَيَدْعُونَهُ إِلَى النَّارِ قَالَ يَقُولُ عَمَّارٌ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الْفِتَنِ

that Ibn Abbas told him and Ali b. Abdullah to go to Abu Sa'id and listen to some of his narrations; So they both went and Abu Sa'id and his brother were irrigating a garden belonging to them. When he saw us, he came up to and sat down with his legs drawn up and wrapped in his garment and said: ˹During the construction of the mosque of the Prophet˺ we carried the adobe of the masjid, one brick at a time while Ammar used to carry two at a time.

The Prophet ﷺ passed by Ammar and removed the dust off his head and said, "May Allah have mercy on Ammar, he will be killed by the rebellious group. Ammar will invite them to Allah and they will invite him to the Hellfire."

أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ لَهُ وَلِعَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ائْتِيَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ فَاسْمَعَا مِنْ حَدِيثِهِ فَأَتَيْنَاهُ وَهُوَ وَأَخُوهُ فِي حَائِطٍ لَهُمَا يَسْقِيَانِهِ فَلَمَّا رَآنَا جَاءَ فَاحْتَبَى وَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ كُنَّا نَنْقُلُ لَبِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ لَبِنَةً لَبِنَةً وَكَانَ عَمَّارٌ يَنْقُلُ لَبِنَتَيْنِ لَبِنَتَيْنِ

فَمَرَّ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَمَسَحَ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ الْغُبَارَ وَقَالَ وَيْحَ عَمَّارٍ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ عَمَّارٌ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَيَدْعُونَهُ إِلَى النَّارِ

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to Ammar, "Woe to you, O son of Sumayyah, the treacherous group will kill you." Ammar replied, and then 'Amr said to Mu'awiyah, "Don't you hear what he is saying?" Mu'awiyah replied, "Do you still blame us when it was them who brought him (to fight against us)?"

سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لِعَمَّارٍ وَيْحَكَ يَا ابْنَ سُمَيَّةَ تَقْتُلُكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ ؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ عَمْرٌو لِمُعَاوِيَةَ أَلَا تَسْمَعُ مَا يَقُولُ هَذَا؟ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ لَا تَزَالُ تَأْتِينَا بِهَنَةٍ أَنَحْنُ قَتَلْنَاهُ؟ إِنَّمَا قَتَلَهُ الَّذِينَ جَاءُوا بِهِ

[Machine] While I was with Muawiyah, two men came to him arguing about the killing of Ammar. Each of them claimed, "I killed him." Abdullah bin Amr said, "Let one of you take responsibility for the killing of his companion, as I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'A guilty group will kill him.'" Muawiyah asked him, "What is your position in this matter?" He said, "My father complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about me, so he said, 'Obey your father as long as he is alive and do not disobey him.' So I am with you all and I am not fighting."

بَيْنَمَا أَنَا عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ إِذْ جَاءَهُ رَجُلَانِ يَخْتَصِمَانِ فِي رَأْسِ عَمَّارٍ يَقُولُ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا أَنَا قَتَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو لِيَطِبْ بِهِ أَحَدُكُمَا نَفْسًا لِصَاحِبِهِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَمَا بَالُكَ مَعَنَا؟ قَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي شَكَانِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَطِعْ أَبَاكَ مَا دَامَ حَيًّا وَلَا تَعْصِهِ فَأَنَا مَعَكُمْ وَلَسْتُ أُقَاتِلُ

[Machine] He and his son Ali went to Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri to listen to his narration. He saw us and took his cloak and came to us and sat down and started narrating to us until he reached the mention of the construction of the mosque. He said, "We were carrying one brick at a time, while 'Amr bin Yasir was carrying two bricks at a time." The Messenger of Allah saw him and started sweeping the dust off himself and said, "O 'Amr, why don't you carry one brick at a time like your companions?" He said, "I seek reward from Allah." He then swept off the dust and said, "Woe to 'Amr! A rebellious group will kill him, and they will invite him to Paradise while he will invite them to Hell." 'Amr said, "I seek refuge with the Most Merciful from trials."

لَهُ وَلِابْنِهِ عَلِيٍّ انْطَلِقَا إِلَى أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ فَاسْمَعَا مِنْ حَدِيثِهِ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقْنَا فَإِذَا هُوَ فِي حَائِطٍلَهُ فَلَمَّا رَآنَا أَخَذَ رِدَاءَهُ فَجَاءَنَا فَقَعَدَ فَأَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُنَا حَتَّى أَتَى عَلَى ذِكْرِ بِنَاءِ الْمَسْجِدِ قَالَ كُنَّا نَحْمِلُ لَبِنَةً لَبِنَةً وَعَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسرٍ يَحْمِلُ لَبِنَتَيْنِ لَبِنَتَيْنِ قَالَ فَرَآهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَعَلَ يَنْفُضُ التُّرَابَ عَنْهُ وَيَقُولُ يَا عَمَّارُ أَلَا تَحْمِلُ لَبِنَةً كَمَا يَحْمِلُ أَصْحَابُكَ؟ قَالَ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الْأَجْرَ مِنَ اللهِ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يَنْفُضُ التُّرَابَ عَنْهُ وَيَقُولُ وَيْحَ عَمَّارٍ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَيَدْعُونَهُ إِلَى النَّارِ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ عَمَّارٌ يَقُولُ أَعُوذُ بِالرَّحْمَنِ مِنَ الْفِتَنِ

[Machine] Amr ibn al-As gave gifts to some people, and he showed preference to Ammar ibn Yasir. It was said to him (asked why he did so), and he replied, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “The rebellious group will kill him.”'

أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ أَهْدَى إِلَى نَاسٍ هَدَايَا فَفَضَّلَ عَمَّارَ بْنَ يَاسِرٍ فَقِيلَ لَهُ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ

[Machine] When Ammar ibn Yasir was killed, Amr ibn Hazm came to Amr ibn al-As and said, "Ammar has been killed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'He will be killed by the rebellious group.'" Amr ibn al-As got up in fear, repeatedly saying it, until he went to Muawiya. Muawiya asked him, "What is the matter with you?" He replied, "Ammar has been killed." Muawiya said, "Ammar has been killed, so what?" Amr said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'He will be killed by the rebellious group.'" Muawiya then said to him, "You've been caught out in your words. Did we kill him? Rather, it was Ali and his companions who brought him until they put him between our spears or between our swords."

لَمَّا قُتِلَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ دَخَلَ عَمْرُو بْنُ حَزْمٍ عَلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ فَقَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ وَقَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ فَقَامَ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ فَزِعًا يُرَجِّعُ حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَا شَأْنُكَ؟ قَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ قَدْ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ فَمَاذَا؟ قَالَ عَمْرٌو سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ دُحِضْتَ فِي بَوْلِكَ أَوَنَحْنُ قَتَلْنَاهُ؟ إِنَّمَا قَتَلَهُ عَلِيٌّ وَأَصْحَابُهُ جَاءُوا بِهِ حَتَّىأَلْقَوْهُ بَيْنَ رِمَاحِنَا أَوْ قَالَ بَيْنَ سُيُوفِنَا

When I (Ḥanẓalah) was with Muʿāwiyah, two men came to him arguing about the head of ʿAmār. Each of them was saying: I killed him. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr said ...

بَيْنَمَا أَنَا عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ إِذْ جَاءَهُ رَجُلَانِ يَخْتَصِمَانِ فِي رَأْسِ عَمَّارٍ يَقُولُ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا أَنَا قَتَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو لِيَطِبْ بِهِ أَحَدُكُمَا نَفْسًا لِصَاحِبِهِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ يَعْنِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ [قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ] كَذَا قَالَ أَبِي يَعْنِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ أَلَا تُغْنِي عَنَّا مَجْنُونَكَ يَا عَمْرُو؟ فَمَا بَالُكَ مَعَنَا؟ قَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي شَكَانِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَطِعْ أَبَاكَ مَا دَامَ حَيًّا وَلَا تَعْصِهِ فَأَنَا مَعَكُمْ وَلَسْتُ أُقَاتِلُ

A group of rebels would kill you. (Using translation from Muslim 2916a)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِعَمَّارٍ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ

[Machine] I have not forgotten what he said on the day of the trench while he was offering them milk, and his chest was covered with dust while saying, "O Allah, indeed the good is the good of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajireen." Then he saw 'Ammar and said, "Woe to him, the son of Sumayyah, he will be killed by a rebellious group." He mentioned it to Muhammad, meaning Ibn Sireen, who asked, "About his mother?" I said, "Yes, indeed she used to mix with them while snow falls on her."

مَا نَسِيتُ قَوْلَهُ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ وَهُوَ يُعَاطِيهِمُ اللَّبَنَ وَقَدْ اغْبَرَّ شَعْرُ صَدْرِهِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ اللهُمَّ إِنَّ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرُ الْآخِرَهْ فَاغْفِرْ لِلْأَنْصَارِ وَالْمُهَاجِرَهْ قَالَ فَرَأَى عَمَّارًا فَقَالَ وَيْحَهُ ابْنُ سُمَيَّةَ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ قَالَ فَذَكَرْتُهُ لِمُحَمَّدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سِيرِينَ فَقَالَ عَنْ أُمِّهِ؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ أَمَا إِنَّهَا كَانَتْ تُخَالِطُهَا تَلِجُ عَلَيْهَا

[Machine] When Ammar ibn Yasir was killed, Amr ibn Hazm entered upon Amr ibn al-As and said, "Ammar has been killed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said, 'The transgressing group will kill him.'"

لَمَّا قُتِلَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ دَخَلَ عَمْرُو بْنُ حَزْمٍ عَلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ فَقَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارُ وَقَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ

[Machine] "He said to him and his son Ali, 'Go to Abu Sa'id and listen to his words about the matter of the Khawarij.' So they went and found him fixing a wall. When he saw us, he took his cloak, covered himself with it, and then began to speak to us until he mentioned it in the mosque. He said, 'We used to carry one brick at a time, while the construction workers carried two bricks at a time.' The Prophet ﷺ saw him and began to shake the dust off his head, saying, 'O Ammar, why don't you carry one brick at a time as your companions do?' Ammar replied, 'I seek reward from Allah.' The Prophet ﷺ shook his head and said, 'Woe to Ammar, the opposing faction will kill him.' Ammar said, 'I seek refuge in Allah from trials and tribulations.'"

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَهُ وَلِابْنِهِ عَلِيٍّ انْطَلِقَا إِلَى أَبِي سَعِيدٍ فَاسْمَعَا مِنْهُ حَدِيثَهُ فِي شَأْنِ الْخَوَارِجِ فَانْطَلَقَا فَإِذَا هُوَ فِي حَائِطٍ لَهُ يُصْلِحُ فَلَمَّا رَآنَا أَخَذَ رِدَاءَهُ ثُمَّ احْتَبَى ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُنَا حَتَّى عَلَا ذِكْرُهُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ كُنَّا نَحْمِلُ لَبِنَةً لَبِنَةً وَعَمَّارٌ يَحْمِلُ لَبِنَتَيْنِ لَبِنَتَيْنِ فَرَآهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَجَعَلَ يَنْفُضُ التُّرَابَ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ وَيَقُولُ «يَا عَمَّارُ أَلَا تَحْمِلُ لَبِنَةً لَبِنَةً كَمَا يَحْمِلُ أَصْحَابُكَ؟» قَالَ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الْأَجْرَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يَنْفُضُ وَيَقُولُ «وَيْحَ عَمَّارٍ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ» قَالَ وَيَقُولُ عَمَّارٌ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الْفِتَنِ

[Machine] When Ammar ibn Yasir was killed, Amr ibn Hazm went to Amr ibn al-As and said, "Ammar has been killed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The rebellious group will kill him.'" Amr ibn al-As stood up in alarm and went to Muawiyah. Muawiyah asked him, "What's the matter with you?" Amr replied, "Ammar has been killed." Muawiyah said, "So, Ammar has been killed, what about it?" Amr responded, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The rebellious group will kill him.'" Muawiyah then said to him, "Did your own urine delude you? Did we kill him? Ali and his companions are the ones who brought him here until they threw him amidst our spears." (or he said, "amidst our swords").

لَمَّا قُتِلَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ دَخَلَ عَمْرِو بْنُ حَزْمٍ عَلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ فَقَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ وَقَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ» فَقَامَ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ فَزِعًا حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَا شَأْنُكَ؟ قَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ فَمَاذَا؟ فَقَالَ عَمْرٌو سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ» فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ دُحِضْتَ فِي بَوْلِكَ أَوَ نَحْنُ قَتَلْنَاهُ إِنَّمَا قَتَلَهُ عَلِيٌّ وَأَصْحَابُهُ جَاءُوا بِهِ حَتَّى أَلْقَوْهُ بَيْنَ رِمَاحِنَا أَوْ قَالَ بَيْنَ سُيُوفَنَا

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "He will be killed by the rebellious group." So 'Amr stood up in alarm and went to Mu'awiyah and said to him, "What is the matter with you?" Mu'awiyah said, "Just now 'Ammar ibn Yasir has been killed." 'Amr said, "Has 'Ammar been killed?' Mu'awiyah replied, "Yes, he has been killed, but by 'Ali and his companions." They brought him until they threw him among our spears or swords, according to their agreement, and did not kill him by this method (i.e. crucifixion), as stated in the conditions of both Bukhari and Muslim.

لَمَّا قُتِلَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ دَخَلَ عَمْرُو بْنُ حَزْمٍ عَلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ فَقَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ» فَقَامَ عَمْرٌو فَزِعًا حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَا شَأْنُكَ؟ فَقَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ فَقَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ فَمَاذَا؟ قَالَ عَمْرٌو سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ» فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ أَنَحْنُ قَتَلْنَاهُ إِنَّمَا قَتَلَهُ عَلِيٌّ وَأَصْحَابُهُ؟ جَاءُوا بِهِ حَتَّى أَلْقَوْهُ بَيْنَ رِمَاحِنَا أَوْ قَالَ سُيُوفِنَا «صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِهِمَا وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ بِهَذِهِ السِّيَاقَةِ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Woe to Ibn Sumayyah, he will be killed by a rebellious group. He will invite them to Paradise while they invite him to the Fire."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «وَيْحَ ابْنِ سُمَيَّةَ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَيَدْعُونَهُ إِلَى النَّارِ»

[Machine] "Rana came and took off his cloak, then sat down and started narrating to us until he mentioned the construction of the mosque. He said, 'We were carrying one brick each, while the builders carried two bricks each.' The Prophet ﷺ saw him and started shaking the dust off his head, saying, 'O Ammar, why don't you carry what your companions are carrying?' Ammar replied, 'I seek the reward from Allah.' The Prophet then shook the dust off him and said, 'Woe to Ammar! A rebellious group will kill him, inviting him to Paradise while he invites them to Hell.' Ammar said, 'I seek refuge with Allah from trials and tribulations.'"

أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ لِي وَلِعَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ انْطَلِقَا إِلَى أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ فَاسْمَعَا مِنْ حَدِيثِهِ فَأَتَيْنَاهُ فَإِذَا هُوَ فِي حَائِطٍ لَهُ فَلَمَّا رَآنَا جَاءَ فَأَخَذَ رِدَاءَهُ ثُمَّ قَعَدَ فَأَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُنَا حَتَّى أَتَى عَلَى ذِكْرِ بِنَاءِ الْمَسْجِدِ قَالَ كُنَّا نَحْمِلُ لَبِنَةً وَعَمَّارٌ لَبِنَتَيْنِ لَبِنَتَيْنِ فَرَآهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَجَعَلَ يَنْفُضُ التُّرَابَ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ وَيَقُولُ «يَا عَمَّارُ أَلَا تَحْمِلُ مَا يَحْمِلُ أَصْحَابُكَ؟ » قَالَ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الْأَجْرَ مِنَ اللَّهِ فَجَعَلَ يَنْفُضُ التُّرَابَ عَنْهُ وَيَقُولُ «وَيْحُ عَمَّارٍ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَيَدْعُونَهُ إِلَى النَّارِ» فَقَالَ عَمَّارٌ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الْفِتَنِ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said regarding 'Ammar, "He will be killed by a rebellious group."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ فِي عَمَّارٍ «تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ»

[Machine] The prophet said about Ammar, "He will be killed by the rebellious group."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ فِي عَمَّارٍ «تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ»

A group of rebels would kill you. (Using translation from Muslim 2916a)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِعَمَّارٍ «تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said to 'Ammar, "The rebellious faction will kill you." Abu Abdur Rahman disagreed with him, and Abu Dawood reported from Shu'bah from Khalid from Al-Hasan.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِعَمَّارٍ «تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ خَالَفَهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ فَقَالَ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ خَالِدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ

[Machine] I was with Mu'awiyah when two men came to him arguing about the killing of Ammar. One of them said, "I killed him." Abdullah ibn 'Amr said, "Let one of you admit to killing him in self-defense for his companion, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The aggressor group will kill him.'" Abu 'Abdur-Rahman (i.e., Mu'awiyah) disagreed with him, and Shu'bah narrated from Al-Awam, from a man, from Hanzalah bin Suwaid.

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَأَتَاهُ رَجُلَانِ يَخْتَصِمَانِ فِي رَأْسِ عَمَّارٍ يَقُولُ «كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا أَنَا قَتَلْتُهُ» فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو لِيَطِبْ بِهِ أَحَدُكُمَا نَفْسًا لِصَاحِبِهِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ خَالَفَهُ شُعْبَةُ فَقَالَ عَنِ الْعَوَّامِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ

[Machine] The head of Ammar was brought, and Abdullah ibn Amr said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The rebellious group will kill him.'"

جِيءَ بِرَأْسِ عَمَّارٍ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ»

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The rebellious group will kill 'Ammaar." 'Amr said to Mu'awiyah, "Do you hear what he is saying?" So he (Mu'awiyah) pushed him away. He (Amr) said, "Did we kill him?" He said, "Whoever brings him will continue to wash his urine."

إِنِّي لَأُسَايِرُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو وَعَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ وَمُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ عَمَّارًا» فَقَالَ عَمْرٌو لِمُعَاوِيَةَ «أَتَسْمَعُ مَا يَقُولُ هَذَا؟ فَحَذَفَهُ» قَالَ «نَحْنُ قَتَلْنَاهُ؟ إِنَّمَا قَتَلَهُ مَنْ جَاءَ بِهِ لَا تَزَالُ دَاحِضًا فِي بَوْلِكَ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "He will be killed by the rebellious group." Then 'Amr stood up, trembling with anger, and went to Mu'awiyah. He said, "Amr has been killed!" Mu'awiyah asked, "Did you kill him?" 'Amr replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say that he will be killed by the rebellious group." Mu'awiyah said, "Did you doubt us? Indeed, it was 'Ali and his companions who killed him. They brought him until they threw him among our spears, or as he said, swords. This is the statement of As-Sakkariy, and in the narration of Ibn Bishran, he said, "Then 'Amr stood up, terrified, and went back to Mu'awiyah. Mu'awiyah asked, "What's wrong with you?" 'Amr replied, "Amr has been killed," and then he mentioned him (Amr) again.

لَمَّا قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ ؓ قَامَ عَمْرُو بْنُ حَزْمٍ فَدَخَلَ عَلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ فَقَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ وَقَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ فَقَامَ عَمْرٌو مُنْتَقِعًا لَوْنُهُ فَدَخَلَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ فَمَاذَا؟ قَالَ عَمْرٌو سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ قَالَ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ دَحَضْتَ فِي بَوْلِكَ أَوَ نَحْنُ قَتَلْنَاهُ؟ إِنَّمَا قَتَلَهُ عَلِيٌّ وَأَصْحَابُهُ جَاءُوا بِهِ حَتَّى أَلْقَوْهُ بَيْنَ رِمَاحِنَا أَوْ قَالَ سُيُوفِنَا لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ السُّكَّرِيِّ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ ابْنِ بِشْرَانَ قَالَ فَقَامَ عَمْرٌو فَزِعًا يَرْتَجِعُ حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَا شَأْنُكَ؟ فَقَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَهُ

"ابْنُ سُمَيَّةَ تَقْتلُه الفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيةُ قاتله وسالبه في النار".

"وَيحَ عَمَّارٍ! ! تَقْتُلُهُ الفِئَةُ البَاغِيةُ، يَدْعُوهُم إِلى الجَنَّةِ، ويَدْعُونَه إِلى النَّارِ".

"وَيْحَ ابْنِ سُمَيَّةَ تَقْتُلُهُ الفِئَةُ البَاغِيةُ".

"عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ بْن خُوَيْلدٍ القَصْرِىِّ، قَالَ: إِنِّى لَجَالِسٌ عنْدَ مُعاويَةَ إِذْ أَتَاهُ رَجُلاَن يَخْتَصمَان في رَأَسِى عَمَّارٍ، كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ منْهُمَا يَقُولُ: أَنَا قَتَلتُهُ، قَالَ عَبْدُ الله بْنُ عَمْرٍو: لِيَطِبْ به أَحَدُكُمَا نَفْسًا لِصَاحبهِ، فَإِنِّى سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ يَقُولُ: تَقْتُلُه الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغيَةُ، قَالَ مُعَاويَةُ: فَمَا بَالُكَ مَعَنا؟ ! قَالَ: إِنِّى مَعَكُمْ، وَلَسْتُ أُقاتِلُ. إِنَّ أَبى شَكَانِى إِلَى رَسُول الله ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ أَطِعْ أبَاكَ مَا دَامَ حَيًا، وَلاَ تعصه، فَأَنَا مَعَكُمْ، وَلَسْتُ أَقَاتِلُ".

"عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: لا نَسِيتُ يَوْمَ الخَنْدَقِ والنَّبِىُّ ﷺ يُنَاوِلهُم اللَّبَنَ وَقَدْ اغْبَرَ شَعْرُ صَدْرِهِ وَهُو يُنَادِى أَلا إِنَّ الخَيْرَ خَيْرُ الآخِرَة فاغْفِرْ للأَنْصَارِ وَالمُهَاجِرِين، فَجَاءَ عَمَارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ وَيْحَ عَمَّارًا وَيْحَ سُمَيَّةَ تَقْتُلُه الفِئَةُ البَاغِيةُ".

"عَنْ أنسٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ: ابْنُ سُمَيَّةَ تَقْتُلُهُ الفِئَةُ البَاغِيَةُ، قَاتِلُهُ وَسَالِبُهُ في النَّارِ".

"عَنْ مَتَّى مَوْلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِعَمْرو بْنِ الْعَاصِ: مَاذَا سَمِعْتَ فِي عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرِ؟ فَقَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ".

"عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ: عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْفِئَةِ الَّتِى فِيهَا ابْنُ سُمَيَّةَ، فَإِنِّى سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ يَقُولُ: تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ".

"عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَت: رَأَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَمَّارًا وَهُوَ يَنْقُل الْحجَارةَ يَوْم الْخَندَق قَالَ: وَيْح ابن سُمَيَّةَ تَقْتُلُهُ الفئة الْبَاغِيَة".

"عَنْ سَعيد بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ: كَانَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ يَنْقُلُ الْحِجَارَةَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَأُتِى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقِيلَ لَهُ: مَاتَ عَمَّارٌ، وَقَعَ عَلَيْهِ حَجَرٌ فَقَتَلَهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا مَاتَ عَمَّارٌ، تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ".
