[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent them as scouts from Mecca to inform him of the news of the Quraysh. They traveled along the Najdiyyah until they reached Raji' from Najd, where they were intercepted by the Banu Lihyan from Hudhayl. Asim ibn Thabit fought with his sword until he was killed. Khubayb and Zaid ibn Adathnah were taken up a mountain, and the people were unable to get to them until they made covenants and agreements with them. They came down to them and tied them securely, then brought them to Mecca, where they sold them to the Quraysh. Khubayb was bought by 'Uqbah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal, the brother of Husayn ibn al-Harith, and Abu Ihab ibn 'Aziz ibn Qays ibn Suwayd ibn Rabiah ibn 'Adas ibn 'Abdullah ibn Darim. Qays ibn Suwayd ibn Rabiah was the brother of 'Amir ibn Nawfal from his mother's side. His mother was the daughter of Nahshal al-Tamimi, and his grandmother was the sister of 'Umaykah ibn Abi Jahl. Al-Akhnas ibn Shurnun ibn 'Ilij ibn Ghibrah al-Thaqafi and 'Ubaydah ibn Hakim al-Sulami were also from the people who purchased them. They delivered them to 'Uqbah ibn al-Harith, who kept them imprisoned in his house. They remained there as long as Allah willed. There was a woman from the tribe of 'Uqbah ibn al-Harith who used to remove their suffering and feed them. Khubayb said to her, "When the people want to kill me, let me know beforehand." When they wanted to kill him, she informed him, and he said to her, "Bring me a razor so that I can shave my pubic hair and beard." The son of the woman who used to provide them with food and water entered with a knife in his hand, and he grasped the hand of the boy and said, "Do you think Allah would allow you to do this to me?" She said, "What do you think of yourself?" Then the boy went to release him, and Khubayb offered two light rak'ahs and departed. Khubayb said, "Had it not been that I did not want them to think that I was afraid of death, I would have prolonged the prayer." The people who had associated partners with Allah came out with them, as did the people of Mecca, who carried a wooden cross until they arrived at Tan'im. There they set up the cross and crucified him upon it. 'Uqbah ibn al-Harith was the one who supervised his killing. Abu Husayn was a young boy, and he was with the group. They killed him at the hands of Harith ibn 'Amir. He had been killed as a disbeliever at the Battle of Badr. As they were putting the weapons in him while he was on the cross, they called out to him and asked him, "Do you love Muhammad more than yourself?" He replied, "No, by Allah Almighty! I would not want him to be pricked with a thorn in place of me." They laughed, and Khubayb said when they put him on the cross, "O Allah, count them and kill them one by one. Do not leave any of them alive." Khubayb ibn 'Adi ibn Rabiah was killed. He was one of the idolaters who had been killed at the Battle of Badr. As they were putting weapons in him while he was on the cross... (The passage continues)

[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ and pledged allegiance to him. It was reported to me that he wanted to send an army to my people. So, I said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, return the army, and I will ensure their Islam and obedience to you." He said, "Do that." So, he wrote to them and a delegation from them came to the Prophet ﷺ declaring their Islam and obedience. He said, "O brother of Suddah, you are obeyed among your people." I said, "Rather, Allah guided them and was kind to them." He said, "Shouldn't I appoint you over them?" I said, "Yes." So, he appointed me over them and wrote me a document. I asked him for their charity, and he granted it. On that day, the Prophet ﷺ was on a journey, and we stayed at a resting place. We performed `Asr prayer at the beginning of the night. I stayed with him, and his Companions left one by one until none of them remained except me. When dawn approached, he commanded me to call the Adhan. So I did. Then he said to me, "O brother of Suddah, do you have water with you?" I said, "Yes, a little that is not enough for you." He said, "Pour it into a container and bring it to me." So, I did. He put his hand inside it, and I saw water flowing between each two fingers of his, and an eye boiling in it. He said, "O brother of Suddah, if it were not for my shame before my Lord, we would have drunk from it and made you all drink from it, and then everyone from the people would have come to you for Wudu. (Islamic ablution)" He said, "Whoever asks the people for surplus wealth, a headache will afflict him and an illness will affect his stomach." He said, "Give me some charity." I said, "Indeed, Allah is pleased with the charity of His Prophet. He decreed it to be eight parts. If you are among them, I will give you your right share." When I arose in the morning, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, accept your leadership. I have no need for it." He said, "And why?" I said, "I heard you say, 'There is no good in leadership for a believer.' And I believed and heard you say, 'Whoever asks the people for surplus wealth, a headache will afflict him and an illness will affect his stomach.'" So, I asked you while I am rich." He said, "That is true. If you want, take it, and if you want, leave it." I said, "No, I will leave it." He said, "Then guide me to a man from those who came as the delegation." So, I guided him to one of the members of the delegation and turned away.

[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ and pledged allegiance to him. It reached me that he intended to send an army to my people. So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, send back the army, for I will be responsible for their Islam and obedience." He said, "Do so." I asked him for charity from their wealth, and he gave it to me. The Prophet ﷺ was traveling that day and he stopped at a place, so we performed the 'Asr prayer when the night began. I accompanied him, and he made his companions stay behind until there was no one left with him except me. When dawn approached, he ordered me to give the Azan. I gave it, and he said to me, "O brother of Suddah, do you have any water with you?" I said, "Yes, a little that is not enough for you." He said, "Pour it into a container and bring it to me." So I brought it to him, and he put his hand in it, and I saw a spring gushing between each two of his fingers. He said, "O brother of Suddah, if it were not that I feel shy before my Lord, we would have drank from it and taken from it." So he called the people and said, "Whoever among you wants to perform Wudu should come." Some people came and performed Wudu, and then Bilal came to announce the Iqamah. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, the brother of Suddah has given the Adhan, and the one who gives the Adhan should perform the Iqamah." When he prayed Fajr, the people of the house came complaining about their worker and saying, "O Messenger of Allah, tell us about what happened between us and our people in the Jahiliyyah." He turned to his companions, and I was among them, and said, "There is no goodness in leadership for a believing man." These words struck me, and a questioner came to him, so he asked him, and he said, "Whoever asks the people about the wealth they possess, he will have a headache in his head and a sickness in his stomach." He said, "Give me some charity." He replied, "Allah did not come with the ruling of a prophet or anyone else accepting charity until He made it eight parts. So if you are among them, I will give you your due." When I woke up in the morning, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, accept your leadership, for I have no need for it." He said, "Why?" I said, "I heard you say, 'There is no goodness in leadership for a believing man,' and I believed and I heard you say, 'Whoever asks the people about the wealth they possess, he will have a headache in his head and a sickness in his stomach,' and I have asked you for charity while I am wealthy." He said, "That is it. So if you wish, take it, and if you wish, leave it." I said, "Rather, I will leave it." He said, "Then show me someone who is worth it." [Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent his companions and they captured the Bani Al-Anbar tribe, who had embraced Islam, while they were still new to it. One of them, Zuby, rode on a female camel named Zabib and advanced towards the people. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I swear by my father and mother, your companions have taken captive the Bani Al-Anbar tribe, who had embraced Islam." The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you have any evidence, O Zuby?" He replied, "Yes." Then Samurah ibn Amr testified, and Zuby took an oath. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Return everything to the Bani Al-Anbar tribe." They returned everything to them, except for the saddle of my mother. Saad said, "And the saddle was from Al-Qatif." Zuby then came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I swear by my father and mother, everything has been returned to the Bani Al-Anbar tribe, except for the saddle of my mother." The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you know who took it?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "When the people gather for prayer, sit by the gate of the mosque. When you see your companion, keep a hold of him until he finishes the prayer, and then you will be treated justly between you and him." Zuby followed the Prophet's advice. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer, he approached him and said, "O Zuby, O my brother from the Bani Al-Anbar tribe, what do you want with your captive?" Zuby burst into tears and stepped away from the man. The man said, "Good. We want Allah and His Messenger." The Prophet ﷺ then asked the man, "Do you have the saddle of Zuby's mother?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah, I lost it from my hand." The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Take off your sword and give it to him, and add to it a camel loaded with food." He did as he was told. The Prophet ﷺ then approached Zuby and wiped his hand on his head, until his hand reached down to his neck. Zuby said, "I could feel the coolness of the Prophet's hand on my neck." Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah, grant him forgiveness and well-being." Zuby then went away with the sword and sold it for two female camels from the charity of the Prophet ﷺ .
