[Machine] Then the people continued until they reached the outskirts of Al-Balqa. They were met by the armies of Heraclius, and the Muslims retreated to a village called Mu'tah. The people gathered there, and the Muslims prepared themselves. They placed a man from the Banu 'Udhrah tribe named Qutbah ibn Qatadah on their right and a man from the Ansar tribe named 'Abayah ibn Malik on their left. Then the people met and Zaid ibn Harithah fought with the banner of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until he was struck by enemy spears.  

ثُمَّ مَضَى النَّاسُ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا بِتُخُومِ الْبَلْقَاءِ لَقِيَهُمْ جُمُوعُ هِرَقْلَ وَانْحَازَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ إِلَى قَرْيَةٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا مُؤْتَةُ فَالْتَقَى النَّاسُ عِنْدَهَا وتَعَبَّأَ لَهُمُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ فَجَعَلُوا عَلَى مَيْمَنَتِهِمْ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي عُذْرَةَ يُقَالُ لَهُ قُطْبَةُ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ وَعَلَى مَيْسَرَتِهِمْ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهُ عَبَايَةُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ثُمَّ الْتَقَى النَّاسُ فَقَاتَلَ زَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ بِرَايَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى شَاطَ فِي رِمَاحِ الْقَوْمِ  

[Machine] That Gabriel ﷺ descended upon the Prophet ﷺ at the beginning of what was revealed to him and taught him ablution and prayer. When he finished, the Prophet ﷺ took water in his hand and sprinkled it on his private parts.  

«أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ نَزَلَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي أَوَّلِ مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْهِ فَعَلَّمَهُ الْوُضُوءَ وَالصَّلَاةَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ أَخَذَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِيَدِهِ مَاءً فَنَضَحَ بِهِ فَرْجَهُ»  

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, have you made a brotherhood between me and Hamzah ibn Abdul Muttalib?"  

قُلْتُ «يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ آخَيْتَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ»  

[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, I have reconciled between me and Hamza."  

«يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ آخَيْتُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ حَمْزَةَ»  

[Machine] "Hamza was the paternal uncle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the foster brother of Zaid ibn Haritha, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was a brother to both of them."  

«كَانَ حَمْزَةُ عَمُّ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَخا زَيْدِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ آخَا بَيْنَهُمَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ»  

[Machine] Zaid ibn Haritha's relation to Hamza's daughter "My cousin, the daughter of my uncle, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ lies between me and her father."  

زَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ فِي ابْنَةِ حَمْزَةَ «ابْنَةُ أَخِي آخَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ أَبِيهَا»  

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Give glad tidings, to those who walk to the mosques in the dark, of perfect light on the Day of Resurrection.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 780)   

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بَشِّرِ الْمَشَّائِينَ فِي الظُّلَمِ إِلَى الْمَسَاجِدِ بِنُورٍ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ سَاطِعٍ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out while reciting and heading towards one of the idols. We slaughtered a sheep for him and prepared it in a pot. When it was cooked, we took it out with us in a bowl. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rode his camel while reciting. When we reached the outskirts of Mecca, Zaid bin Amr bin Nufayl met him and greeted his companion with a pre-Islamic greeting. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Why do I see that your people have been spreading falsehoods about me and disliking me?" Zaid said, "By Allah, they do so out of jealousy for what they used to see me do for them, but I consider them lost. That is why I left in search of this religion until I reached the scholars of Khaybar, where I found them worshipping Allah and associating partners with Him. I said, 'By Allah, this is not the religion that I sought.' Then I went on until I reached the scholars of Sham (Greater Syria), where I found them worshipping Allah and associating partners with Him. I said, 'By Allah, this is not the religion that I left in search of.' One of the scholars of Sham said, 'Verily, you will not find anyone on the peninsula worshipping Allah alone, except for one person in the land.' So I went until I reached him and informed him of what I was searching for. He said to me, 'Indeed, everyone you have seen is lost, and you are inquiring about the religion of Allah and His angels. Yet a Prophet has arisen or is about to arise in your land, so return and believe in him.' So I returned and did not test any prophet after that." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I am the Messenger of Allah." He then put the dish in front of him and said, "What is this?" They replied, "A sheep that we slaughtered for the idol." Zaid said, "We do not eat anything that is slaughtered for other than Allah." Then we went our separate ways. Zaid bin Amr bin Nufayl died before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sent, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He will be resurrected alone on the Day of Judgment."  

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ مُرْدِفِي إِلَى نُصُبٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَابِ فَذَبَحْنَا لَهُ شَاةً ثُمَّ صَنَعْنَاهَا فِي الْإِرَّةِ فَلَمَّا نَضِجَتِ اسْتَخْرَجْنَاها فِي سُفْرَتِنَا ثُمَّ رَكِبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ نَاقَتَهُ وَهُوَ مُرْدِفِي فَلَمَّا كُنَّا بِأَعْلَى مَكَّةَ لَقِيَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ نُفَيْلٍ فَحَيَّا أَحَدُهُمَا صَاحِبَهُ بِتَحِيَّةِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا لِي أَرَى قَوْمَكَ قَدْ شَنِفُوكَ وكَرَهُوكَ؟» فَقَالَ وَاللهِ إِنَّ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُمْ لَبِغَيْرِ مَا ثَائِرَةٍ كَانَتْ مِنِّي إِلَيْهِمْ إِلَّا أَنِّي أَرَاهُمْ فِي ضَلَالٍ فَخَرَجْتُ أَبْتَغِي هَذَا الدِّينَ حَتَّى قَدِمْتُ عَلَى أَحْبَارِ خَيْبَرَ فَوَجَدْتُهُمْ يَعْبُدُونَ اللهَ ويُشْرِكُونَ بِهِ فَقُلْتُ وَاللهِ مَا هَذَا بِالدَّيْنِ الَّذِي أَبْتَغِي بِهِ فَخَرَجْتُ حَتَّى قَدِمْتُ عَلَى أَحْبَارِ الشَّامِ فَوَجَدْتُهُمْ يَعْبُدُونَ اللهَ ويُشْرِكُونَ بِهِ فَقُلْتُ وَاللهِ مَا هَذَا بِالدَّيْنِ الَّذِي خَرَجْتُ أَبْتَغِي فَقَالَ حَبْرٌ مِنْ أَحْبَارِ الشَّامِ إِنَّكَ لَتَسْأَلُ عَنْ دَيْنٍ مَا نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا يَعْبُدُ اللهَ بِهِ إِلَّا شَخْصًا بِالْجَزِيرَةِ فَخَرَجْتُ حَتَّى قَدِمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِالَّذِي خَرَجْتُ لَهُ فَقَالَ لِي إِنَّ كُلَّ مِنْ رَأَيْتَ فِي ضَلَالٍ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَسْأَلُ عَنْ دَيْنِ اللهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَقَدْ خَرَجَ فِي أَرْضِكَ نَبِيٌّ أَوْ هُوَ خَارِجٌ فَارْجِعْ فَصَدِّقْهُ وَآمِنْ بِهِ فَرَجَعْتُ فَلَمْ أَخْتَبِرْ نَبِيًّا بَعْدُ قَالَ فَأَنَاخَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ نَاقَتَهُ فَوَضَعَ السُّفْرَةَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا؟ قَالَ «شَاةٌ ذَبَحْنَاهَا لِنُصُبِ كَذَا كَذَا» فَقَالَ زَيْدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو إِنَّا لَا نَأْكُلُ شَيْئًا ذُبِحَ لِغَيْرِ اللهِ ثُمَّ تَفَرَّقْنَا قَالَ وَمَاتَ زَيْدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ نُفَيْلٍ قَبْلَ أنْ يُبْعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُبْعَثُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أُمَّةً وَحْدَهُ»  

[Machine] I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day, and I touched some idols. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Do not touch them." I said, "I will not return until I see what he says." Then I touched them, and he said, "Did I not forbid you from this?" He said, "By the One who honored him with the Book."  

طُفْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَلَمَسْتُ بَعْضَ الْأَصْنَامِ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَمَسَّهَا» فَقُلْتُ لَأَعُودَنَّ حَتَّى أُبْصِرَ مَا يَقُولُ ثُمَّ مَسَسْتُهَا فَقَالَ «أَلَمْ تُنْهَ عَنْ هَذَا؟» قَالَ فَوَالَّذِي أَكْرَمَهُ الْكِتَابُ  

[Machine] I was a boy during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and one day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Come with us to a man whose condition we have seen." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions went, until they entered between two walls in a long narrow alley. They reached a small door at the end of the alley and entered a house. They saw no one in the house except one woman, and there was a huge jug filled with water. They said, "We see the jug, but we do not see the one who carries it. Speak to the woman." So she pointed to a curtain in a corner of the house and said, "Look at what is under the curtain." They uncovered it and found a man underneath. He lifted his head and the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "The face has appeared." The man said, "O Muhammad, why have you turned to me in embarrassment?" The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "I have hidden something for you, so tell me what it is." He said to his companions, "I have hidden Surah Ad-Dukhan (The Smoke) for him." The man said, "Smoke." So the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "May Allah make you ugly, if He wills." Then he turned away.  

كُنْتُ غُلَامًا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ «انْطَلِقُوا بِنَا إِلَى إِنْسَانٍ قَدْ رَأَيْنَا شَأْنَهُ» قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَمْشِي وَأَصْحَابُهُ مَعَهُ حَتَّى دَخَلُوا بَيْنَ حَائِطَيْنِ فِي زُقَاقٍ طَوِيلٍ فَانْتَهَوْا إِلَى بَابٍ صَغِيرٍ فِي أَقْصَى الزُّقَاقِ فَدَخَلُوا إِلَى دَارٍ فَلَمْ يَرَوْا فِي الدَّارِ أَحَدًا غَيْرَ امْرَأَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَإِذَا قِرْبَةٌ عَظِيمَةٌ مَلْأَى مَاءً فَقَالُوا نَرَى قِرْبَةً وَلَا نَرَى حَامِلَهَا كَلِّمُوا الْمَرْأَةَ فَأَشَارَتِ إِلَى قَطِيفَةٍ فِي نَاحِيَةِ الدَّارِ فَقَالَتِ انْظُرُوا إِلَى مَا تَحْتَ الْقَطِيفَةِ فَكَشَفُوها فَإِذَا تَحْتَهَا إِنْسَانٌ فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «شَاهَ الْوَجْهُ» فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ لِمَ تَفَحَّشُ عَلَيَّ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «قَدْ خَبَأْتُ لَكَ خَبْأً فَأَخْبِرْنِي مَا هُوَ؟» وَقَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ إِنِّي قَدْ خَبَأْتُ لَهُ سُورَةَ الدُّخَانِ فَقَالَ دُخٌّ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «اخْسَأْ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ كَانَ» ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ  

[Machine] "I gave a horse as alms, then I saw its offspring being sold in the market, so I wanted to buy it. I went to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him about it."  

«تَصَدَّقْتُ بِفَرَسٍ لِي فَرَأَيْتُ ابْنَتَهَا يُقَامُ بِالسُّوقِ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَشْتَرِيَهَا فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْهَا»  

[Machine] He rode on a horse in the way of Allah, then he found it later and the book was revealed to him. He did not touch any idols until Allah honored him and made him descend to the market to be sold, while he was sad and humiliated. He negotiated with him and then went to the Prophet and said to him, "I rode on a horse in the way of Allah, and I found it being sold in the market at a low price, sad and humiliated. I recognized its veins. Should I buy it?" The Messenger of Allah prohibited him from buying it.  

أَنَّهُ حَمَلَ عَلَى فَرَسٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ ثُمَّ أَنَّهُ وَجَدَهُ بَعْدُ فِي وَأَنْزَلَ عَلَيْهِ الْكِتَابَ مَا مَسَّ مِنْهَا صَنَمًا حَتَّى أَكْرَمَهُ اللهُ وَأَنْزَلَ عَلَيْهِ السُّوقَ يُبَاعُ وَهُوَ مَصْرُورٌ مَهْزُولٌ فَسَاوَمَ بِهِ ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنِّي كُنْتُ حَمَلْتُ عَلَى فَرَسٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ وَإِنِّي قَدْ وَجَدْتُهُ يُبَاعُ فِي السُّوقِ بِثَمَنٍ يَسِيرٍ مَهْزُولٍ مَصْرُورٍ وَقَدْ عَرَفْتُ عَرَقَهُ أفَأَشْتَرِيهِ؟ «فَنَهَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أنْ يَشْتَرِيَهُ»
