12. Chapter of Zay (Male)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ sent me to Abu Bakr, so I gave him the good news of Jannah (Paradise). Then, he sent me to Umar, and I also gave him the good news of Jannah. Then, he sent me to Uthman, and I gave him the good news of Jannah, despite the trials that would befall him. Uthman then took me by the hand and went with me until we reached the Prophet ﷺ . Uthman said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, what is this trial that afflicts me?" I swear by Allah that I had not indulged in any luxury, nor did I desire or seek any worldly pleasures, nor have I touched a woman since I embraced Islam or since I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic period of ignorance). The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Indeed, Allah will dress you in a robe. And if the hypocrites desire to remove it from you, do not remove it."
We used to speak while in prayer. One of us used to speak to his brother (while in prayer) about his need, till the Verse was revealed:-- "Guard strictly the (five obligatory) prayers, especially the middle (the Best) (ʿAsr) Prayer and stand before Allah with obedience (and not to speak to others during the prayers)." Then we were ordered not to speak in the prayers. (Using translation from Bukhārī 4534)
[Machine] We used to talk during prayer in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. One of us would speak to his companion about a need between them until the verse was revealed: "Guard the prayers and the middle prayer and stand before Allah in devotion." Then we were commanded to be silent.
