He replied, "I never saw anyone who heard about Paradise and Hell and did not dedicate a moment to praying in them." The man said, "I stand in prayer and cry until the blisters grow from the tears of my eyes or they almost grow." The monk said to him, "If you were to laugh while acknowledging your mistake to Allah, it would be better for you than crying while being proud of your actions. For the prayer of the proud does not rise above him." He said, "Give me advice." He said, "I advise you to be detached from the world and not to argue with its people. And be like the bee, for if it consumes, it consumes what is good. And if it settles, it settles on what is good. And if it falls on a branch, it does not harm or break it. I advise you to sincerely advise Allah, like the dog who is hungry and is driven away, but still refuses to abandon his owners and continues to protect them and advise them."

"My wife and I stopped at Baqi Al-Gharqad, and my wife said to me: 'Go to the Messenger of Allah and ask him to give us something to eat. ' So I went to the Messenger of Allah and found a man with him asking him (for something), and the Messenger of Allah was saying: 'I do not have anything to give to you.' The man turned away angrily, saying: 'You only give to those you want. 'The Messenger of Allah said: 'He is angry with me because I did not have anything to give him. Whoever asks of you and he has an Uqiyah or its equivalent, then he has been too demanding in asking."' Al-Asadi said: I said: 'Our milch-camel is worth more than an Uqiyah, 'and an Uqiyah is forty Dirhams. "So I went back and did not ask him for anything. Then the Messenger of Allah got some barley and raisins after that, and he gave us a share of them, until Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, made us independent of means."

The Prophet ﷺ ordered them to strike him, and they struck him with their hands, sandals, and the edges of their garments. They also threw dirt on him. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "Stop hitting him," and they stopped. Then the Prophet ﷺ sent him. Abu Bakr asked the people who were present at the time of his being struck, and they testified against him forty times. Abu Bakr hit him forty times with a whip. Then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) continued to hit him in front of the people until people started following him in hitting Khalid. Umar consulted and struck him eighty times. This continued
