[Machine] While al-Hasan was in the mosque on a day in Rajab, he was sipping water and exhaling forcefully. Then, he began to cry until his shoulders trembled. He said, "If hearts had life, if hearts had righteousness, I would weep for you from a night whose day is the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, there is a night that gives birth to the morning of the Day of Resurrection. No creation has ever heard of a day more filled with disgrace and no eye shedding tears than the Day of Resurrection."

[Machine] The knowledge has vanished and the vices have remained, and whoever remains from the Muslims is in sorrow.

ahmad-zuhd:1447ʿAbdullāh > ʿAlī b. Muslim > Sayyār > ʿUbaydullāh b. Shumayṭ from my father > al-Ḥasan

[Machine] I heard Al-Hasan say, "Indeed, the believer becomes sad in the morning and in the evening, and he finds solace in certainty amidst grief. It is enough for him, what is enough for a person to satisfy his hunger, a handful of dates, and a sip of water."

[Machine] I heard al-Hasan say, "Indeed, death exposes the world and leaves no delight for the sagacious."

ahmad-zuhd:1449ʿAbdullāh > ʿAlī b. Muslim > Sayyār > Jaʿfar > Ibrāhīm b. ʿĪsá al-Yashkurī

[Machine] "I have never seen a sadness longer than a sigh, and I have never seen it without considering it a conversation about a calamity."

ahmad-zuhd:1450ʿAbdullāh from my father > Hāshim > Ḥasan > al-Ḥasan

[Machine] "Son of Adam, how does your heart find solace and your thoughts dwell on the future?"

ahmad-zuhd:1451ʿAbdullāh from my father > Muḥammad b. Sābiq > Mālik b. Mighwal 210

[Machine] Hasan, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Tomorrow, everyone will be concerned about what they care about. And whoever is more concerned with something other than mentioning Allah, then there is no urgency for someone who has no Hereafter. And whoever prioritizes his worldly life over his Hereafter, then he will have neither the worldly life nor the Hereafter. And whoever speaks well but acts poorly, he is."

[Machine] I said, "O Abu Sa'id, I have not found anything more intense in worship than piety." He replied, "O my child, is there any benefit in this besides piety?" Then Al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I have not found anything more intense in worship than prayer in the depths of this night."

[Machine] "Oh Abu Sa'id, we met scholars who reminded us and frightened us. They almost brought our hearts to them, while others spoke with ease in their speech. Hasan said, 'O Abdullah, whoever frightens you until you find peace is better than the one who assures you until you encounter fear.'"

ahmad-zuhd:1456ʿAbdullāh from my father > Ṣafwān b. ʿĪsá > Hishām > al-Ḥasan

[Machine] I heard Al-Hasan say, "By Allah, I have seen people who have not folded a single garment, nor ordered the making of food for their families, nor placed anything between themselves and the ground. And even though one of them would say, 'I wish I had eaten a morsel that would remain in my stomach like a brick,' he would still say, 'We have been informed that a brick remains in water for three hundred years.'"

[Machine] I heard al-Hasan, when the owner of the world was mentioned, say, "By Allah, nothing of the world remains for him, nor does it remain for her. He is not safe from following it, its evil, and its reckoning. And he will surely be extracted from it in a torn state."

ahmad-zuhd:1459ʿAbdullāh from my father > Ṣafwān > Hishām > al-Ḥasan

[Machine] I heard Al-Hasan say, "By Allah, I have encountered a group of people, even though one of them inherits vast wealth." He said, "By Allah, it requires great effort and exertion." He said, "So he says to his brother, 'O brother, I know that this is an inheritance and it is permissible, but I fear that it may corrupt my heart and my deeds. So it is for you, I do not need it.' He said, "So he does not take anything from him at all." He said, "And by Allah, it requires great effort and exertion." He said, "And I heard Al-Hasan say, "By Allah, I have encountered a group of people who were more ascetic in what Allah made lawful for them than you are in what He prohibited for you. And indeed, they were more afraid that their good deeds would not be accepted than you are afraid of your bad deeds being taken into account."

ahmad-zuhd:1460ʿAbdullāh from my father > Sayyār > Jaʿfar > Hishām > al-Ḥasan

[Machine] I have encountered people and mingled with groups among them who have never asked Allah for Paradise out of modesty towards Allah.

ahmad-zuhd:1462ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > ʿAbd al-Wāḥid b. Zayd > al-Ḥasan

[Machine] I have encountered people whose desire for food would increase as they aged, even if they were 70 years old. And I have also encountered people who, even at the age of 70, would not use a pillow to sleep on. One of them would eat a morsel of food as if it were a stone in his stomach.

ahmad-zuhd:1464ʿAbdullāh > Aḥmad b. Ibrāhīm > ʿUthmān b. al-Yamān > Yaḥyá b. Mūsá

[Machine] On the authority of Al-Hasan regarding His saying ﷻ, "Those who walk upon the earth humbly." [Al-Furqan 63], the scholars said, and in His saying, "Indeed, He was ever to the returning [to Him] forgiving." [Al-Israa 25], the one who directs his heart and his actions towards Allah ﷻ said:

ahmad-zuhd:1465ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > Sufyān > Hishām > al-Ḥasan
