8. Book of Purification
"If water is released then let her perform Ghusl." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 195)
[Machine] Narrated to us al-Qa'nabi from Malik from Hisham ibn 'Urwah from his father from Zainab bint Umm Salamah from Umm Salamah. She said, Umm Sulaym, the wife of Abu Talhah, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, Allah is not ashamed of the truth. Is it necessary for a woman to perform ghusl (ritual bathing) if she has a wet dream?" He ﷺ replied, "Yes, if she sees the fluid.
[Machine] From the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , Umm Sulaim, who is the mother of Anas ibn Malik, she said: "O Messenger of Allah, surely Allah is not shy of the truth. Is it necessary for a woman to perform ghusl (ritual bath) if she sees water in her sleep, just like a man does?". The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Yes, she should perform ghusl." Then the Prophet's wife ﷺ came to Umm Sulaim and said, "Shame on you! Do you really experience that?" Umm Sulaim replied. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and said, "Extend your right hand, from where would the resemblance come?"
(the mother of the believers) Um Sulaim, the wife of Abu Talha, came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Verily Allah is not shy of (telling you) the truth. Is it necessary for a woman to take a bath after she has a wet dream (nocturnal sexual discharge)?" Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Yes, if she notices a discharge." (Using translation from Bukhārī 282)
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, "Water is from water."
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, if a man has sexual intercourse with a woman but does not ejaculate, what should he do?" He replied, "He should wash the parts of his body that have come into contact with the woman, perform ablution, and pray."
8.6.7 Subsection
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ : "I asked, 'What do you think if one of us has sexual intercourse with a woman and does not ejaculate?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'He should wash his private parts and his wife's and then perform ablution, and then he should pray.'"
[Machine] I heard Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri saying: "We went out with the Prophet ﷺ one day until we passed by the house of a man from the Ansar. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Where is so-and-so?' So he called him, and the man came out hurriedly with water dripping from his head. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Perhaps we have hurried you in your need.' The man said, 'By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I have indeed been hurried.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'If any one of you is in hurry or in ritual impurity, there is no need to perform the full ablution (ghusl). It is enough for him to perform the ablution (wudu).'
What do you think if a man has intercourse with his wife but does not ejaculate? ʿUthmanؓ Said. He should do wudooʿ as for prayer and wash his private part. And ʿUthman ؓ said: I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; I asked ‘Ali bin Abi Talib, az-Zubair bin al-ʿ Awwam, Talhah bin ʿUbaidullah and Ubayy bin Kaʿb about that, and they told him to do the same. (Using translation from Aḥmad 448)
8.6 [Machine] The Ghusl
"Water is for water,' was only permitted in the beginning of Islam. Then it was prohibited." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 110)
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: "If a person sits between the four things (i.e. genitals, thighs, knees, and feet) and then exerts effort, he must perform ablution (washing)."
[Machine] "I did that, along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and we all performed ablution from it."
[Machine] "If circumcision goes beyond the circumcised area, then washing is obligatory. I and the Messenger of Allah performed this and we washed."
the Prophet said: "When the circumcised meets the circumcised then Ghusl is required." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 109)
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "When a man sits between the four parts of his wife's body and then ejaculates, it becomes obligatory for him to perform ghusl (ritual bath)." And in the hadith of Mutarr, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Even if he does not ejaculate."
The verdict that water (bath) is necessary when there is emission given by the people (in the early days of Islam) was due to the concession granted by the Messenger of Allah in the beginning of Islam. He then commanded to take a bath (in such a case). Abu Dawud said : By Abu Ghassan is meant Muhammad b. mutarrif. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 215)
[Machine] "They followed the Prophet's command in the last matter. Aisha narrated, 'The Prophet used to do that without performing ablution, and that was before the conquest of Mecca. Then he would perform ablution and order the people to do so.'"
[Machine] "I and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ both performed it, and we all took a bath from it."
"When (a man) sits between the four parts of his wife's body and exerts himself, then Ghusl becomes obligatory." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 191)
"The Messenger of Allah said: 'When the two circumcised parts meet, and (the tip of the penis) disappears, then bath is obligatory.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 611)
the Prophet said: "When the circumcised meets the circumcised then Ghusl is required." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 109)
[Machine] About the man who has intercourse with his wife and does not ejaculate, she said, "I and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did so and we all performed ablution from it."
[Machine] "I and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ both did it, so we all performed ablution from it."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited the morning (Duha) prayer and I couldn't find anyone to inform me about it except for Umm Hani bint Abi Talib, who informed me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed it after the day had risen on the day of the conquest. He ordered for a garment to be brought to cover him, then he performed ablution and stood up and performed eight units of prayer. I do not know whether his standing or his bowing or his prostration was longer in duration. All of that was performed consecutively. She said: "I did not see him reciting anything before or after it."
I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the conquest (of Mecca) and found him take a bath. while his daughter Fatimah was holding a curtain around him. (Using translation from Muslim 336a)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ descended to the highest point of Mecca, and I went to him. Abu Dharr came to him with a container of water in which there was some dough residue. She said, "I see traces of dough in it." Abu Dharr covered himself and took a bath. Then the Prophet ﷺ covered Abu Dharr and took a bath. Then the Prophet ﷺ performed eight units of prayer, and that was at Duha (forenoon).
"My maternal aunt Maimunah told me: 'I brought the Messenger of Allah ﷺ water for his Ghusl from Janabah, and he washed his hands two or three times, then he put his right hand in the vessel and poured water over his private part, then he washed it with his left hand. Then he put his left hand on the ground and rubbed it hard. Then he performed Wudu' as for prayer, then poured three scoops with his two hands full of water over his head, then he washed his entire body, then he moved away from where he had been standing and washed his feet.' She said: 'Then I brought him a towel but he refused it.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 253)
"Aishah described how the Prophet ﷺ performed Ghusl for Janabah. She said: 'He used to wash his hands three times, then pour water with his right hand onto his left and wash his private part and whatever was on it.' - (One of the narrators) 'Umar said: "I think he said: 'He would pour water with his right hand onto his left hand three times.'" - "Then he would rinse his mouth three times and his nose three times, and wash his face and hands three times, then he would pour water over his head three times, then pour water over himself.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 246)
[Machine] I asked Aisha, does a woman take a ritual bath (ghusl) with her husband from the same vessel after sexual impurity (janabah)? She said, "Yes, water is purifying, it does not make one impure. I used to take a bath with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the same vessel. I would pour water onto his hand before he could put them in the water."
"The Messenger of Allah and I would take a bath from a single vessel." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 376)
[Machine] Narrated by al-Qa'nabi from Malik from Hisham ibn 'Urwah from his father from 'Aisha that she said, "I used to take a bath together with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from a single container and we would all take water from it."
[Machine] Ayesha narrated, "I and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution from the same vessel, and it would overflow. He would then say, 'Leave some for me, leave some for me.'"
It was narrated from 'Aishah that when the Prophet ﷺ performed Ghusl from Janabah he would start by washing his hands, then he would perform Wudu' as for prayer, then he would dip his fingers in the water, then run them through his hair, then he would pour water over his head three times, then he would pour water over his entire body. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 247)
[Machine] I heard Aisha say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution in a container like this one. Abu Asim pointed with his palms towards the right side and poured water over it, then he took his palms and poured water over the rest of his body."
"I said, O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman with tight braids. Should I undo them when I take a bath to cleanse myself from the state of sexual impurity?" He said: "Rather it is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water over yourself, and you will be purified," or he said: "In that case you would have become purified." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 603)
[Machine] "A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him about the ritual bath for menstruation. He ordered her to take a bath with water and Sidr leaves and to use a cloth soaked in it for purification. She asked, 'How should I purify myself with it?' He replied, 'Purify yourself with it.' She asked again, 'How should I purify myself with it?' The Prophet ﷺ covered his hand with it and said, 'Glorified be Allah! Purify yourself with it.' Aisha said, 'I caught the woman and said, 'Follow the traces of blood with it.'"
[Machine] She heard Aisha saying that a woman asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about menstruation and how to perform ablution from it. He said, "Take a clean piece of cloth and perform ablution with it." She asked, "How do I perform ablution with it?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Perform ablution with it." She asked again, "How do I perform ablution with it?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ repeated, "Perform ablution with it." Aisha then understood what he meant, so she grabbed it and taught her.
