8. Book of Purification
[Machine] The translation of «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَمْسَحُ عَلَيْهِمَا» is: "The Messenger of Allahﷺ used to wipe over them."
[Machine] "What's wrong with you?" I said, "I am seeking knowledge." He replied, "For I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Verily, the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge, pleased with what he does.' So I asked him about wiping over the two socks, and he said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to wipe over three (things) when we travel, and a day and a night when we stay, without removing them due to defecation, urination, or sleep, but rather due to sexual impurity.'"
[Machine] Did you hear the Prophet ﷺ mentioning anything about wiping over the socks? He replied, "Yes, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us that when we are traveling or on a journey, not to remove or take off our socks for three days and nights unless due to ritual impurity (janabah)."
[Machine] "What brings you here?" I said, "Seeking knowledge." He said, "Indeed, the angels spread their wings for the seeker of knowledge, pleased with what he seeks." I said, "May I ask you - an action that I perform in private, which is wiping over my socks after using the toilet - I used to be one of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , so I came to you to ask if you have heard from him anything about it?" He said, "Yes, he used to instruct us when we were traveling or on a journey, not to remove our socks for three days and nights unless due to Janabah (major ritual impurity), but to remove them for using the toilet, urine, and sleep.”
8.18 [Machine] Wiping over the socks and others.
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted us permission to wipe over the socks for three days for a traveler, and for a day and a night for a resident."
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Bilal entered Al-Aswaf [1] and he went to relieve himself and then came out." Usamah said: "I asked Bilal: 'What did he do?' Bilal said: 'The Prophet ﷺ went to relieve himself, then he performed Wudu', so he washed his hands and face, and wiped his head and he wiped over his Khuffs, then prayed.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 120)
The Prophet granted a concession to travelers: "If a traveler performed ablution and put on leather socks, then he performed a fresh ablution, he could wipe over the leather socks for three days and nights; the resident could do so for one day and one night." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 556)
[Machine] What brought you here? I said, I came to seek knowledge. He said, I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whenever a person goes out of his house in search of knowledge, the angels lower their wings in approval of what he is doing." I said, I came to ask you about wiping over the socks. He said, Yes, we were in the army that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent. He commanded us to wipe over the socks when we put them on while in a state of purity three times, even if we were traveling and did not remove them due to feces or urine.
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performing ablution (wudu). He washed his face and hands, then wiped over his feet. So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, are you wiping over your feet?" He said, "Certainly, I have put on socks, and they are clean."

We prayed Zuhr with ‘Ali ؓ , then he went to a gathering that he used to hold in ar-Rahbah. He sat and we sat around him, then the time for ‘Asr came. A vessel (of water) was brought to him. He took a handful from it and rinsed his mouth and nose, and he wiped his face and forearms, and he wiped his head, and he wiped his feet. Then he stood up and drank what was left over in the vessel. Then he said: I have been told that some men dislike anyone to drink whilst standing, but I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do what I have done. (Using translation from Aḥmad 1366)

[Machine] We prayed with Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, the afternoon prayer. Then we went out to the open area where he called for a container with a drink in it. He took it and rinsed his mouth, inhaled it into his nostrils, wiped his face, his arms, his head, and his feet. Then he drank the remaining of it while standing. Then he said, "Indeed, there are people who dislike to drink while standing. However, the Messenger of Allahﷺ performed similar to what I have done, and this is the ablution of one who did not invalidate it."

"I saw the Messenger of Allah wiping over his leather socks and turban." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 562)
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution and wiped over his nose and over the turban."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ set off, and Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah accompanied him. When the Prophet ﷺ finished his business, he said, "Do you have water?" I said yes, and I brought him a bowl. He washed his hands and face, then reached beneath his garment to wash his arms. The sleeves of his garment became tight, so he pulled out his hand from underneath the garment and placed it on his shoulder. He washed his arms and wiped over his feet and turban. Then, he mounted his ride, and I mounted with him. We reached the people, and Abdullah bin Awf had already led them in one Rak'ah prayer. When he realized that the Prophet ﷺ had arrived, he intended to step back, but the Prophet ﷺ gestured to him to continue praying. When Abdullah bin Awf finished the prayer, the Prophet ﷺ and Al-Mughirah both stood up and completed what they had missed.
