"I saw Ibn ʿUmar praying while taking his camel as a Sutra in front of him and he said, "I saw the Prophet doing the same."

وَقَالَ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَفْعَلُهُ

Whenever Ibn ʿUmar intended to go to Mecca he used to oil himself with a sort of oil that had no pleasant smell, then he would go to the Mosque of Al-Hulaita and offer the prayer, and then ride. When he mounted well on his Mount and the Mount stood up straight, he would proclaim the intention of assuming Ihram, and he used to say that he had seen the Prophet ﷺ doing the same.

هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَفْعَلُ

I saw ‘ Uthman b. ‘ Affan (perform ablution). He washed his forearms three times and washed his head thrice. He then said : I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing like that. Abu Dawud said: Another version says: "He performed ablution three times only."

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَعَلَ هَذَا

Salamah bin Kuhail said “I saw Sa’id bin Jubair he called the iqamah at Al Muzdalifah and offered three ra’kahs of the sunset prayer and two ra’kahs of the night prayer. He then said “I attended Ibn ‘Umar.” He did like this in this place and he (Ibn ‘Umar) said “I attended the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ”. He did in a similar way in this place.

وَقَالَ شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَنَعَ مِثْلَ هَذَا فِي هَذَا الْمَكَانِ

"Ibn Umar prayed at Jam (Muzdalifah), so he combined two prayers with the Iqamah, and he said: 'I saw the Messenger of Allah doing the same as this at the place.'"

وَقَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ هَذَا فِي هَذَا الْمَكَانِ

"I heard Sa'eed bin Jubair say: 'I saw 'Abdullah bin 'Umar pray in Jam'; he made the Iqamah and prayed Maghrib, three Rak'ahs, then he prayed 'Isha', two Rak'ahs, then he said: 'This is what I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do in this place.'"

هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصْنَعُ فِي هَذَا الْمَكَانِ

"We prayed with Abdullah bin Mas'ud in his house. He stood between us and we placed our hands on our knees, but he took them off and made us interlace our fingers, and said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do that.'"

وَقَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَفْعَلُهُ

"Ibn 'Umar did not offer more than two rak'ahs when traveling, and he did not offer any prayer before or after that. It was said to him: 'What is this?' He said: 'This is what I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing.'"

هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصْنَعُ

"This is what I saw the Messenger of Allah doing."

وَقَالَ هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَفْعَلُهُ

"I was with Ibn 'Umar when he departed from 'Arafah. When he came to Jam' (Al-Muzdalifah), he combined Maghrib and 'Isha', and when he finished he said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did similar to this in this place.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 606)

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ هَذَا فِي هَذَا الْمَكَانِ

سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى فِي نَعْلَيْهِ

«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى فِي نَعْلَيْهِ»

«رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي فِي نَعْلَيْهِ»

[AI] I heard Anas ibn Malik saying, "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing."

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ «هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَصْنَعُ»

"I saw the Prophet ﷺ wiping over the Khuff and the Khimar." [1] A head covering not limited to the common usage of "turban" as is clear from the first narration. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 104)

«رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَمْسَحُ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ»

[AI] Jarir was present and he performed ablution and wiped over his socks. He was asked about it and he said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing it."

أَنَّ جَرِيرًا «بَالَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ» فَقِيلَ لَهُ فَقَالَ «رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَفْعَلُهُ»

[AI] Jarir said, "He (the Prophet Muhammad) entered (the mosque), performed ablution, then wiped over his socks." And he said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing it."

أَنَّ جَرِيرًا «بَالَ ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ» وَقَالَ «رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَفْعَلُهُ»

[AI] Baalah Jarirun fatawadda wa masaha 'ala khuffayh. Wa qala "Ra'aitu Rasulullahi sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam yaf'aluhu."

«بَالَ جَرِيرٌ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ» وَقَالَ «رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَفْعَلُهُ»
