"I came to a man called Safwan bin 'Assal and sat at his door. He came out and said: 'What do you want?' I said: 'I am seeking knowledge.' He said: 'The angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge out of pleasure at what he is seeking.' He said: 'What do you want to know about?' I said: 'About the Khuffs.' He said: 'When we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, he told us not to take them off for three days except in the case of Janabah, but not in the case of defecation, urinating or sleep.'"

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whenever someone leaves their home in search of knowledge, the angels lower their wings in approval of what they are doing." He was asked about wiping over the socks. He replied, "Yes, I was amongst the army that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent, and he commanded us to wipe over our socks three times, for cleanliness, during travel for up to three days and nights, and during staying in a place for one day and one night. [AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "No one goes out of his house seeking knowledge except that the angels spread their wings for him, pleased with what he does." He said, "I came to ask you about wiping over the two socks." He said, "Yes, I was in the army that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent, and he commanded us to wipe over the two socks when we put them on in a state of purity, three times when we traveled, and for the duration of a night when we stayed, and we did not remove them for urination, defecation, sleep, or except from janabah." He said, "And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Indeed, at Maghrib there is an open gate for repentance, its distance is seventy years, and it does not close until the sun rises from its direction.'"
