[Machine] "That I proposed to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , for his daughter, and I mentioned that I have nothing. Then I mentioned his return and his arrival, so I proposed to her. He said, 'Where is the Huthamiyyah armor that I gave you on such and such day?' He said, 'It is with me.' He said, 'Then give it to her.'"  

البيهقي:١٤٣٥٠ – أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُقْرِئُ أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ قَدْ سَمَّاهُ سَمِعَ عَلِيًّا ؓ بِالْكُوفَةِ يَقُولُ أَرَدْتُ

أَنْ أَخْطُبَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ابْنَتَهُ وَذَكَرْتُ أَنَّهُ لَا شَيْءَ لِي ثُمَّ ذَكَرْتُ عَائِدَتَهُ وَصِلَتَهُ فَخَطَبْتُهَا فَقَالَ أَيْنَ دِرْعُكَ الْحُطَمِيَّةُ الَّتِي أَعْطَيْتُكَهَا فِي يَوْمِ كَذَا وَكَذَا؟ قَالَ هِيَ عِنْدِي قَالَ فَأَعْطِهَا إِيَّاهَا

I wanted to propose marriage to the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but I thought: I have nothing, so how could it be? Then I remembered how he upheld ties of kinship and his kindness and generosity, so I asked him for his daughterʿs hand in marriage. He said: “Do you have anything”? I said: No. He said: ʿWhere is the Hutamiyyah shield that I gave you on such and such a day?ʿ I said: I have it. He said: ʿThen give it to her.ʿ
