4. Friday Ṣalāh (Jumuʿah)
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Take a bath on the day of Friday and wash your heads even if you are not in a state of janabah, and apply perfume if available.' Ibn Abbas said: 'As for the bath, yes, but as for the perfume, I do not know.'"
[Machine] That he testified regarding the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "It is obligatory to perform ghusl (ritual bath) on the day of Jumu'ah (Friday), and to use a toothstick, and to touch something with a fragrance, if available." 'Amr ibn Sulaim testified saying: "I testify that performing ghusl is obligatory. As for using the toothstick and fragrance, Allah knows best. But this is what I have heard."
The Prophet ﷺ said: Washing and the use of tooth-stick are necessary for every adult (person) on Friday; and everyone should apply perfume whatever one has. The narrator Bukair did not mention of 'Abd al-Rahman; and about perfume he said that even it might be of the kind used by women. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 344)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever takes a bath on the day of Friday, purifies himself as much as possible, applies some of his home's oil or perfume, then goes to the Friday prayer and prays what is required, and when the Imam comes out, he listens attentively and does not engage in any conversation, then his sins between that Friday and the next Friday will be forgiven." Reported by Abu Abdullah, and in another narration by Al-Qattan, from Abdullah bin Wadi'ah, from Salman Al-Khair, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who said: "A man should not take a bath on Friday, then apply his own oil or perfume, and then come to the mosque, not separating between two people, and then listen when the Imam speaks, except that his sins between that Friday and the next will be forgiven."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When it is Friday, a man should perform ghusl (ritual bath) and wash his head. Then he should apply the best of his perfumes and wear his best clothes. After that, he should go to the prayer and not separate between two people. Then he should listen to the Imam. For him, forgiveness will be granted from one Friday to the next, and an additional three days. This was narrated from another perspective by Abu Hurairah and Abu Sa'id."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever performs ghusl on the day of Jumu'ah, purifies himself as much as he can, applies perfume if he has it, wears his best clothes, then goes to the mosque and does not separate his shoulders from the people, then prays as much as Allah wills, then remains silent until the Imam finishes the prayer, it will be an expiation for what is between that Friday and the previous one." Abu Hurairah said, "Three days as a surplus. Indeed, Allah has made good deeds equivalent to ten times their reward."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said about a Friday from the Fridays: "O Muslims, this is a day that Allah has made an 'Eid (celebration) for the Muslims, so perform ghusl (ritual bath) and whoever has perfume should not harm him if he touches it, and use siwak (tooth stick). This is the correct hadith, traceable in a chain of narration, and it is not acceptable to interrupt it."
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said regarding a Friday from all Fridays, gathering of the Muslims: This is a day that Allah ﷻ has made for you a celebration, so take a bath and use the Siwak (tooth-stick) upon yourselves. Abdullah bin Lahia narrated this hadith to me, Aqil informed me that Ibn Shihab informed him from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, on a Friday from all Fridays, and he mentioned it in the wording of the hadith of Ibn Shihab from Ibn as-Sabbaq from Abu al-Husayn bin Bishran in Baghdad. Ali bin Muhammad al-Misri narrated to us, Yahya bin Uthman bin Salih narrated to us, my father narrated to me, and he mentioned it. And what is authentic?"
[Machine] The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, it is from the natural disposition (fitrah) to trim the mustache, clip the nails, and shave the pubic hair."
[Machine] "From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: There are five aspects of fitrah (natural disposition): circumcision, removing the pubic hair, trimming the mustache, cutting the nails, and plucking the armpit hair."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to like to trim his mustache and nails on Fridays.
[Machine] I had two paternal uncles who used to trim their mustache and nails every Friday. As for the hadith narrated from Ibn Abbas, it is raised that a believer on Friday is like a pilgrim. He does not trim his nails or hair until the prayer is done. And about Ibn Umar, it is raised that a Muslim on Friday is considered in a state of ihram, so once he prays, he is allowed to trim. However, these two narrations were reported with weak chains of narrators, and they cannot be relied upon as evidence. And with Allah is the Tawfeeq (success).
