4. Friday Ṣalāh (Jumuʿah)
[Machine] The first Friday that was observed after the Friday that took place in Madinah, was the Friday of Al-Bahrain in the village of Juwatha from the villages of Abd al-Qays, in the year 5604. Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, and Abu Ahmad Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Hafiz narrated to us, who narrated to us Abdullah ibn Sulaiman ibn al-Ash'ath, who narrated to us Bundar, who narrated to us Abu Amir, who narrated to us Ibrahim ibn Tahman, who mentioned it in this manner except that he said "after the Friday prayer in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the mosque of Abd al-Qays in Juwatha from Al-Bahrain".
“I used to guide my father after he lost his sight, and when I took him out for the Friday (prayer), when he heard the Adhan he would pray for forgiveness for Abu Umamah As’ad bin Zurarah, and supplicate for him. I heard that from him for a while, then I said to myself: ‘By Allah! What is this weakness? Every time he heard the Adhan for Friday (prayer) I hear him praying for forgiveness for Abu Umamah and supplicate for him, and I do not ask him about why he does that.’ Then I took him out for Friday (prayer), as I used to take him out, and when he heard the Adhan he prayed for forgiveness as he used to do. I said to him: ‘O my father! I see you supplicating for As’ad bin Zurarah every time you hear the call for Friday; why is that?’ He said: ‘O my son, he was the first one who led us for the Friday prayer before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came from Makkah, in Naqi’ Al- Khadamat (a place near Al-Madinah), in the plain of Harrah Banu Bayadah.’ I asked: ‘How many of you were there at that time?’ He said: ‘Forty men.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1082)
[Machine] He said, "Because he was the first one to gather us in the defeat of the Prophet from the tribe of Harrah bin Bayadah in a place called Al-Khadamat. I asked, "How many were you at that time?" He said, "Forty." This was narrated by Jarir bin Hazim and Muhammad bin Salamah, from Ibn Ishaq, who said, "Muhammad bin Abi Umamah told me, as Yunus bin Bukair and Muhammad bin Ishaq said, when mentioning that he heard it in the narration, and the narrator was trustworthy, the chain of narration was sound, and this hadith has a good chain of narration and is authentic. Another hadith was narrated in it that cannot be used as evidence like it."
[Machine] "There are three imams for every gathering, and for every forty or more, there is a Friday prayer, and the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha prayers. This is because they are congregations. This is also what Jafar ibn Burqan narrated from Az-Zuhri, which Abd al-Aziz al-Qurashi relied on, even though he is weak. And this is based on what has passed and what will come, God willing."
[Machine] Every village has forty men and they must observe Jumu'ah (Friday prayer).
[Machine] "O People of the Water,
When you receive this letter, collect yourselves when you reach forty (days)"
[Machine] The book of Umar ibn Abdul Aziz came to us when the people of the village reached forty men, so they should gather it.
[Machine] Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz wrote, "Whichever village has fifty men gathered in it, let one of them lead them in prayer, give sermons to them, and lead them in Friday prayer."
[Machine] A city or village with a community that has a leader who commands them to gather for Friday prayers. Indeed, the people of Alexandria, the cities of Egypt, and the cities along its coasts used to gather for Friday prayers during the time of Umar ibn al-Khattab and Uthman ibn Affan by their command. And in it (the city/village), there are men from the companions.
[Machine] About the villages between Mecca and Medina, what do you see on Friday? He said, "Yes, if they have a leader, let them gather and inform us that 'Ata' said, 'If there is a village where some parts are touching each other, they should gather.'
[Machine] The SHEIKH and the SIMILARITIES to the sayings and actions of the predecessors in establishing the Friday prayer in the villages whose inhabitants are settled people who are not of a nomadic nature, they do not move around, indeed that is what ALI BIN ABI TALIB desires.
[Machine] Ali said, "There is no Friday or equinox except in a mosque in Egypt."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Friday prayer is obligatory for every village, even if there are only four people in it, meaning the towns. It was also narrated by Al-Muqri and Al-Hakam Al-Ayli from Az-Zuhri that Ad-Daraqutni said, 'This is not valid according to Az-Zuhri. Whoever..."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said that Friday prayer is obligatory for every village that has an imam, even if there are only four people. Then the Prophet, ﷺ , mentioned three individuals: Al-Hakam bin Abdullah, who is abandoned; Muawiya bin Yahya, who is weak; and this is not confirmed by Al-Zuhri. It has been narrated in this context a hadith about the fifty (people), but its chain of narration is not authentic, and it is mentioned by Al-Zuhri that Mus'ab bin Umair, when the Prophet, ﷺ , sent him to Medina, he gathered them and they were twelve men.
[Machine] About Al-Zuhri, he mentioned that this passage is incomplete. However, if it is correct, it is intended to convey the support of the twelve respected commanders whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent with him or in their footsteps to Al-Madinah to teach the Muslims and lead the prayer with them. The number of Muslims who prayed with them is mentioned in a narration by Ka'b ibn Malik when Mu'adh ibn Jabal signaled to As'ad ibn Zurarah and his companions to lead the prayer.
