40. Chapter (4/7)
[Machine] I have never seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ treat any of his wives more harshly than he treated a sheep.
Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave no better wedding feast than the one he did (on the occasion of his marriage with) Zainab. Thabit al-Bunani (one of the narrators) said: What did he serve in the wedding feast? He (Anas) said: He fed them bread and meat (so lavishly) that they (the guests) abandoned it (of their own accord after having taken them to their hearts' content). (Using translation from Muslim 1428d)
40.26 [Machine] The right of Walima is fulfilled by serving which type of food?
[Machine] He heard Anas bin Malik saying: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed between Khaybar and Medina for three nights which were built upon with Safiya. So, I invited the Muslims to the feast of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, in which there was no bread or meat, but he ordered for the anta (a type of wheat bread) to be spread and dates and clarified butter to be put on it. The Muslims said: Is this one of the mothers of the believers or one of what his right hand possesses? They said: If he concealed her, then she is one of the mothers of the believers, and if he did not conceal her, then she is one of what his right hand possesses. So when he returned, he went to her, and lifted the veil between her and the people.
[Machine] "Allah's Messenger ﷺ came to Khaybar and mentioned the story of Safiyyah bint Huayy. He said, 'When he was on the way, Umm Sulaim prepared her and presented her to him at night. So the Prophet ﷺ woke up as a groom and said, 'Whoever has anything should bring it.' So he spread a mat and the man brought barley and the man brought dates, and the man brought clarified butter. They started pounding them and cooked harees. Thus, it became the feast of the Prophet ﷺ ."
[Machine] Safiyyah was chosen among the captives of Banu Qurayzah to be presented to the Prophet ﷺ. We witnessed the spoils of war and never saw a woman being beaten before. The Prophet ﷺ sent her to be given to Dihyah al-Kalbi, who was pleased and sent her to Umm Sulaym. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Treat her well." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then left Khaybar and Safiyyah was placed on his mount and he struck the base of the saddle with a stick. Then he returned in the morning and said, "Whoever has any surplus food, bring it to us." A man brought dates, barley bread, and clarified butter until heaps of food were piled up, and they ate and drank from the water of the sky beside them. Anas said, "That was the feast of the Prophet ﷺ with Safiyyah." Anas also said, "We witnessed a feast of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that had no bread or meat." Then he mentioned this narration.
The Prophet ﷺ held a wedding feast for Safiyyah with meal and dates. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3744)
[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ went to one of his wives in Madinah, from the district of Shua'ir.
40.27 [Machine] Time of the wedding feast
[Machine] I heard Anas Bin Malik say that the family of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ built a house for a woman, so they sent me to invite men to eat.
40.28 [Machine] Days of the celebration
that the Messenger of Allah said: 'The wedding feast on the first day is an obligation, on the second day is a custom and on the third day is showing off.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1915)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The food of the first day is a duty, and the food of the second day is the same. And in the narration of As-Sulami, the food of one day is a duty, the food of two days is a recommended act, and the food of the third day is a virtue and a reward. And whoever feeds others will be fed by Allah and the Sulami did not mention his saying of "reward".
[Machine] When Allah's Messenger ﷺ married Umm Salamah, he ordered for a sheep to be slaughtered and then he threw dates and barley upon it. He called people and they ate, and he said that a wedding feast on the first day is a right, on the second day it is customary, and on the third day it is boastful and a matter of reputation. Abu Sa'd Al-Malini, Abu Ahmad ibn 'Adi, Al-Husayn ibn Ismail, Muhammad ibn 'Amr ibn Hayyan, Yahya ibn Sa'id, and Bakr ibn Khunays have all mentioned this narration. However, the reliability of Bakr ibn Khunays is doubted, as people have spoken about him. The narration of Al-Bukhari is also weak. It was narrated from Abu Hurairah in a Marfu' (elevated chain), but it is not reliable. Abu Bakr ibn Ibrahim Al-Farsi mentioned that Ibrahim ibn 'Abdullah narrated from Abu Ahmad ibn Fares, who narrated from Muhammad ibn Ismail Al-Bukhari in a narration of Zuhair ibn 'Uthman, stating that the chain of narrators is not authentic and it is not known to have a reliable companion. Ibn 'Umar and others have mentioned from the Prophet ﷺ that if one of you is invited to a wedding feast, they should accept the invitation and not delay it for more than three days or anything else. This is the most correct view. Ibn Sirin mentioned a story related to this as well.

[Machine] From Ayoub, eight days had passed, and the first was the most accurate.
[Machine] My father got married and invited people for eight days. He invited Ubayy ibn Ka'b who came that day while he was fasting and prayed. He said, "He invited with blessings," then he left and Allah knows best.
40.29 [Machine] Attending a Wedding Invitation is a Right
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you is invited to a wedding feast, let him attend it."
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'If one of you is invited to a wedding feast, let him accept the invitation.'"
When any one of you is invited to a feast, he should accept. 'Ubaidallah took this feast to be a wedding feast. (Using translation from Muslim 1429b)
[Machine] He used to say that the worst food is the food of a feast where the rich are invited and the poor are left behind, and whoever does not come to the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger. And in Another narration from Abu Abdullah, the food is bad.
[Machine] I said to Al-Zuhri, "O Abu Bakr, how did you describe the evil of food to be the food of the rich?" He laughed and said, "No, it is not the evil of food, it is the food of the rich." Sufyan said, "And my father was rich, so this hadith alarmed me when I heard it. So I asked Al-Zuhri and he said, 'Al-Araj narrated to me that I heard Abu Huraira saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The evil of food is the food of the feast that the rich are invited to, while the poor are prevented from it. And whoever does not respond to the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger.' And Sufyan said, 'Perhaps he mentioned this hadith and perhaps he did not. And Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us, through Ali ibn Isa, through Ibrahim ibn Abi Talib, through Ibn Abi Umar, through Sufyan who said, 'I said to Al-Zuhri, and he mentioned it and mentioned the hadith, attributed to Abu Huraira, and he said, 'The rich are invited to it and the poor are left out.'"

[Machine] "The worst food is the food of a feast that is invited for the rich and ignored for the poor. It is a right for those who abandon it; indeed, they have disobeyed Allah and His messenger. And it was Ma'mar who said: 'Whoever does not answer, has indeed disobeyed Allah and His messenger.'"

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "When you are invited to a wedding feast, respond to the invitation."
The Prophet ﷺ ordered us to do seven (things) and forbade us from seven. He ordered us to visit the patients, to follow the funeral procession, to reply to the sneezer (i.e., say to him, 'Yarhamuka-l-lah (May Allah bestow His Mercy upon you), if he says 'Al-hamduli l-lah' (Praise be to Allah), to help others to fulfill their oaths, to help the oppressed, to greet (whomever one should meet), and to accept the invitation (to a wedding banquet). He forbade us to wear golden rings, to use silver utensils, to use Maiyathir (cushions of silk stuffed with cotton and placed under the rider on the saddle), the Qasiyya (linen clothes containing silk brought from an Egyptian town), the Istibraq (thick silk) and the Dibaj (another kind of silk). (See Hadith No. 539 and 753). (Using translation from Bukhārī 5175)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are five obligations of a Muslim towards his brother: returning greetings, responding to a sneeze, accepting an invitation when he is invited, visiting the sick, and attending funerals." Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us, who was informed by Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Quraysh, who was informed by Al-Hasan bin Sufyan, who was informed by Fayyad bin Zuhair, who was informed by Abdul Razzaq, who was informed by Ma'mar, who narrated from Ibn Mas'ood. This hadith is mentioned by Muslim in Sahih, narrated by Abdul Hameed, who was informed by Abdul Razzaq. Ma'mar used to transmit this hadith frequently, and when he was asked about it, he would trace it back. And indeed, Al-Awza'i, Yunus bin Zaid, and Uqail also traced it.

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "When one of you is invited to a meal, let him accept the invitation. If he is fasting, let him pray before breaking his fast." This narration is from the hadith collection of Imam Rawh.
[Machine] Whenever he was invited to a wedding feast, he would respond whether he was fasting or not. If he was fasting, he would accept the invitation, bless the gathering, and if he was not fasting, he would eat.
[Machine] That his father called a group of the Prophet's companions, so they came to him, among them was Ubayy ibn Ka'b. I think he said that he gave them blessings and then they left. The sheikh, may Allah have mercy on him, said that we have previously narrated that he was fasting and he prayed, saying that he invoked blessings and then left.
40.32 [Machine] Those who prefer to break their fast, if it is not obligatory.
[Machine] A man made food and invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions. A man said, "Indeed, I am fasting." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Your brother has made food and invited you, so break your fast and make up for that day." It was narrated by Ibn Abi Fudayk from Ibn Abi Humaid, and he added, "If you wish, I mean to make up for it." Ibn Abi Humaid is also known as Muhammad or Hammad and he is weak. We have narrated it with its meaning from Abu Uways Al-Madani from Muhammad bin Al-Munkadir from Abu Sa'eed that he made food for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and it passed in the book of fasting.
[Machine] There was a man among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ in this mosque for twenty years, his nickname was Abu Qirsaafah. He used to fast one day and break his fast the next. Then, I had a son and I started to feel sad because of him. So, I invited him on the day he used to fast and he broke his fast. He said, "Then Moses extended his hand and ate." After that, Ibn Adham went to the mosque and swept it with his cloak.
40.33 [Machine] Who Chooses to Break the Fast Between Eating and Abstaining
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you is called, let him respond; if he desires, he may come and if he desires, he may abstain."
40.34 [Machine] Whoever seeks forgiveness, and if he does not forgive, he answers.
[Machine] "Tell the people to go to your brother or answer your brother, then read peace upon him and tell him that I am busy."
[Machine] The messenger of Ibn Safwan came to Ibn Abbas while he was drinking Zamzam water. He called him and his companions, so he ordered them to stand up and excuse him. He said, "If he doesn't excuse me, I will come to him."
[Machine] Ibn Umar said: "No excuse or exemption for you from this, so get up and he got up."
40.35 [Machine] Whoever was not invited and then came and ate, what he ate is not permissible for him unless the host of the feast permits it for him.
[Machine] He is called Abu Shuayb. He noticed hunger on the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He had a generous servant, so he said to him "Prepare a meal for me, so that I could invite the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and four others." He invited them and a man followed them who had not been invited. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "Has he followed us? Should I allow him?" He replied, "Yes."
[Machine] Abu Shuayb had a skilled boy. When he saw the Prophet ﷺ and his companions' exhaustion, he commanded his boy to bring meat for them. Then, he sent a message to the Prophet ﷺ asking him to bring a fifth – five people plus a sixth. So the Prophet ﷺ came with five people and an additional sixth. When they reached Abu Shuayb, the Prophet ﷺ said, "You sent for five of us, and this one is our follower. If you permit him, he can enter; otherwise, he will return." Abu Shuayb said, "I give permission, O Messenger of Allah. Please let him enter." The phrase of the Hadith of Nufail 14545 was mentioned to us by Abu Ali al-Roudabari, who reported it from Ismail, who reported it from Ja'far, who reported it from Ahmad bin Abdul Malik, who reported it from Zuhair, who reported it from Al-A'mash, who reported it from Abu Wael, who reported it from Abu Mas'ood, from the Prophet ﷺ in a similar manner.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever enters without invitation, enters as an intruder and leaves as a thief." Al-Bahrani added: "In the beginning, the wedding feast is a right. Whoever is invited and does not respond, then he has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger." Then Al-Baqi mentioned the rest.
[Machine] Whoever enters a people for a meal without being invited, then he has entered as a wicked person and he has eaten what is unlawful for him. It has been said about the remaining part from Yahya ibn Khalid, from Rawh, from Layth, from Mujahid, from Abu Hurairah and he has two chains of transmission, he did not narrate it from Rawh ibn al-Qasim except through Yahya ibn Khalid and he is an unknown person from the elders of the remaining scholars, and in the narration of Ibn Umar there is sufficiency.
40.36 [Machine] The man is invited to the wedding and there is disobedience in it. He forbids them. If they give that up, it's fine; otherwise, he will not respond.
"I heard the Messenger of Allah [SAW] say: 'Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; if he cannot, then with his heart- and that is the weakest of Faith.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 5008)
O people, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ʿWhoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him not sit at a table where alcohol is being passed around; whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him not enter a bathhouse unless he is wearing a waist wrapper; and whoever (among women) believes in Allah and the Last Day, let her not enter bathhouses (at all).” (Using translation from Aḥmad 125)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade sitting at a table where alcohol is being consumed and a person is eating while lying on their stomach. Our companions said, if he responds and does not know, he should sit and not assist the people in disobeying Allah, and not listen to its acts of amusement, and then leave.
The Prophet ﷺ said: When sin is done in the earth, he who sees it and disapproves of it will be taken like one who was not present, but he who is not present and approves of it will be like him who sees. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4345)
[Machine] I heard Ibn Mas'ud saying, "If a sin is committed among the people, whoever is content with it as if he is absent from it, it is as if he witnessed it. And whoever dislikes it as if he witnessed it, it is as if he is absent from it." And this was narrated from another source in an elevated manner.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever is present with a disobedience and hates it, it is as if he is absent from it. And whoever is absent from it and loves it, it is as if he is present with it." In the narration of Ad-Darimi, Yahya ibn Abi Suleiman said, "Without a doubt, Yahya ibn Abi Suleiman singled out this narration. And he is not strong, and Allah knows best."
40.37 [Machine] The invitee sees in the place where he is invited to, fixed pictures with souls, so he does not enter.
[Machine] She bought a picture frame with pictures in it. When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saw it, he stood at the door and did not enter. I noticed the disapproval on his face, so I said, "O Messenger of Allah, should I repent to Allah and His Messenger for what I have done?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What is the matter with this picture frame?" I said, "I bought it for you so that you can sit on it and use it as a cushion." He said, "Verily, the people who make these images will be punished on the Day of Resurrection. It will be said to them, 'Give life to what you have created.'" He also said, "Angels do not enter a house that contains images."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , came to me while I was covered with a shawl that had images on it. When he saw it, his face changed color and he tore it with his hand. He said, "Those who imitate the creation of Allah will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection."
