The Prophet ﷺ said: When sin is done in the earth, he who sees it and disapproves of it will be taken like one who was not present, but he who is not present and approves of it will be like him who sees. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4345)   

البيهقي:١٤٥٥١وَقَدْ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْإِيَادِيُّ بِبَغْدَادَ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلْمَانَ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْمُطَّوِعِيُّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَشْعَثُ بْنُ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ أَخِي عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ؓ قَالَ

[Machine] I heard Ibn Mas'ud saying, "If a sin is committed among the people, whoever is content with it as if he is absent from it, it is as if he witnessed it. And whoever dislikes it as if he witnessed it, it is as if he is absent from it." And this was narrated from another source in an elevated manner.

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ ؓ يَقُولُ إِذَا عُمِلَتْ فِي النَّاسِ خَطِيئَةٌ فَمَنْ رَضِيَهَا مِمَّنْ غَابَ عَنْهَا فَهُوَ كَمَنْ شَهِدَهَا وَمَنْ كَرِهَهَا مِمَّنْ شَهِدَهَا فَهُوَ كَمَنْ غَابَ عَنْهَا وَرُوِيَ هَذَا مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ مَرْفُوعًا
