40. Chapter
Angels do not enter the house in which there is a picture or portraits. I came to 'A'isha and said to her: This is a news that I have received that Allah's Apostle ﷺ had said: Angels do not enter the house in which there is a picture or a dog, (and further added) whether she had heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ making a mention of it. She said: No (I did not hear this myself), but I narrate to you what I saw him doing. I bear testimony to the fact that he (the Holy Prophet) set out for an expedition. I took a carpet and screened the door with it. When he (the Holy Prophet) came back he saw that carpet and I perceived signs of disapproval on his face. He pulled it until it was torn or it was cut (into pieces) and he said: God has not commanded us to clothe stones and clay. We cut it (the curtain) and prepared two pillowa out of it by stuffing them with the fibre of date-palms and he (the Holy Prophet) did not find fault with it. (Using translation from Muslim 2106f)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to address his army until he reached the Farewell Sermon. He said, "I entrust you to Allah in regards to your religion, your trust, and the conclusion of your deeds." He once saw a man with patches on his clothes, so he faced the rising sun and said, "It is as if the world has presented itself to you three times. Have we become better off today than when we had nothing? You wear one garment in the morning and another in the evening, and you cover your houses just like the Ka'bah is covered." Abdullah bin Yazid said, "Shouldn't I cry when I have lived long enough to see you covering your houses just like the Ka'bah is covered?"
[Machine] Abdullah ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, everything has its honor, and the most honorable of gatherings is the one that is faced with the qibla (direction of prayer). Do not pray behind someone who is asleep or engaged in conversation. Kill the snake and scorpion, even if you are in the middle of prayer. Do not cover the podium with a garment." This hadith was also narrated by Hisham ibn Ziyad, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b, and it was narrated from another source, but the chain of narration is disconnected from Muhammad ibn Ka'b, and there is no established chain of narration for that.
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ forbade the hanging of this specific curtain.
[Machine] "You have done it, O Abu Abdullah. You have covered the walls. Then he left. In another narration, Ibn Umar called Abu Ayyub and saw a curtain on the wall of the house. Ibn Umar said, 'The women have prevailed over him.' Abu Ayyub replied, 'Who was I afraid for? I was not afraid for you. By Allah, I will not feed you anymore.' So he returned."
[Machine] Salman married Abu Qura Kandi. When he entered upon her, he said, "O this one, indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ advised me that if Allah decreed for you to get married, then the first thing you should gather upon is obedience." She replied, "Surely, the sitting of a person is obeyed." So he said to his people, "We shall pray and supplicate." They did so and he saw a covered house. He said, "What is wrong with your house? Is the Kaaba in Kanda?" They replied, "It is not wrong and the Kaaba has not been moved to Kanda." He said, "I will not enter until every curtain is taken apart except for the one on this door." It was narrated to us concerning the dislike of that from Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, and it is similar that it would be due to the extravagance in it. And Allah knows best.
