8. Ḥajj and ʿUmrah Rites
"I heard Abdullah bin Umar say, when a man asked him wether he could perform Tawaf around the House when he had entered Ihram for Hajj: 'What is stopping you?' He said: 'I saw Abdullah bin Abbas forbidding that, but you are telling us something different.' He said: 'We saw the Messenger of Allah enter Ihram for Hajj, then circumambulate the House then perform between As-Safa and Al-Marwah.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2929)
[Machine] I went out with my companions as pilgrims until we reached Mecca. We circumambulated the Kaaba for a week and prayed two Rak'ahs behind the Station of Ibrahim. Then a man sitting on Zamzam asked, "Who are you?" I said, "We are from the people of the east, from the people of Yamamah." He asked, "Are you pilgrims who have completed your Hajj or are you performing 'Umrah?" We replied, "We are pilgrims." He said, "Then you have invalidated your Hajj." I said, "I have performed Hajj multiple times before and I used to do the same thing." So, I asked who this person was. They said, "This is Ibn Abbas." Then we left and headed towards Abdullah bin Umar and informed him of what Ibn Abbas had said to us. He said, "May Allah remind you, are you pilgrims who have completed your Hajj or are you performing 'Umrah?" We answered, "We are pilgrims." He said, "Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman, all of them performed Hajj and did what you have done."
"We went out with the Messenger of Allah with no intention but Hajj. When he had circumambulated the Hosue and performed Sai between As-Safa and Al-Marwah, he said: 'Whoever has a Hadi with him, let him remain in Ihram, and whoever does not have a Hadi with him, let him exit Ihram.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2990)
[Machine] To Ibn Abbas, what is this fatwa that is given by someone who has completed Tawaf around the Kaaba? He said, "It is the Sunnah of your Prophet ﷺ , even if you dislike it."
