(the wife of the Prophet) that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Do you know that when your people (Quraish) rebuilt the Kaʿba, they decreased it from its original foundation laid by Abraham?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Why don't you rebuild it on its original foundation laid by Abraham?" He replied, "Were it not for the fact that your people are close to the Pre-Islamic Period of ignorance (i.e. they have recently become Muslims) I would have done so." The sub-narrator, ʿAbdullah (bin ʿUmar ) stated: ʿAisha 'must have heard this from Messenger of Allah ﷺ for in my opinion Messenger of Allah ﷺ had not placed his hand over the two corners of the Kaʿba opposite Al-Hijr only because the Kaʿba was not rebuilt on its original foundations laid by Abraham. أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «أَلَمْ تَرَيْ أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حِينَ بَنَوَا الْكَعْبَةَ اقْتَصَرُوا عَنْ قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ؟» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَا تَرُدُّهَا عَلَى قَوَاعِدَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ «لَوْلَا حِدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ» فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ لَئِنْ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ سَمِعَتْ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا أَرَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَرَكَ اسْتِلَامَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ يَلِيَانِ الْحِجْرَ إِلَّا أَنَّ الْبَيْتَ لَمْ يَتِمَّ عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ  

"The Messenger of Allah said: "Were it not for the fact that my people' - according to the narration of Muhammad he said: 'Your people' - 'have recently left Jailiyyah, I would have knocked down the House and given it two doors.'" When Ibn Az-Zubair was in power, he gave it two doors. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2902)  

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَوْلَا أَنَّ قَوْمِي وَفِي حَدِيثِ مُحَمَّدٍ قَوْمَكِ حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ لَهَدَمْتُ الْكَعْبَةَ وَجَعَلْتُ لَهَا بَابَيْنِ» فَلَمَّا مَلَكَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ جَعَلَ لَهَا بَابَيْنِ  

"The Messenger of Allah said: "Were it not for the fact that your people have recently left disbelief, I would have knocked down the House and rebuilt it on the foundation of Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and I would have given it a back door. For when the Quraish built the House, they made it too small.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2901)  

قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَوْلَا حَدَاثَةُ عَهْدِ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ لَنَقَضْتُ الْبَيْتَ فَبَنَيْتُهُ عَلَى أَسَاسِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ خَلْفًا فَإِنَّ قُرَيْشًا لَمَّا بَنَتِ الْبَيْتَ اسْتَقْصَرَتْ»  

"O Aishah, were if not for the fact that your people have recently left Jahiliyyah, I would have commanded that the House be knocked down, and I would have incorporated into it what was left out of it. I would have made its (door) in level with the ground and I would have given it two doors, an eastern door and a western door. For they built it too small, and by doing this, it would have been built on the foundation of Ibrahim, peace be upon him." He (one of the narrators said: "This is what motivated Ibn Az-Zubair to knock it down." Yazid said: "I saw Ibn Az-Zubair when he knocked it down and rebuilt it, and included part of the Hijr in it. And I saw the foundation of Ibrahim, peace be upon him, stones like the humps of camels joined to one another." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2903)  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَهَا «يَا عَائِشَةُ لَوْلَا أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ لَأَمَرْتُ بِالْبَيْتِ فَهُدِمَ فَأَدْخَلْتُ فِيهِ مَا أُخْرِجَ مِنْهُ وَأَلْزَقْتُهُ بِالْأَرْضِ وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ بَابَيْنِ بَابًا شَرْقِيًّا وَبَابًا غَرْبِيًّا فَإِنَّهُمْ عَجَزُوا عَنْ بُنْيَانِهِ فَبَلَغْتُ بِهِ أَسَاسَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ» قَالَ فَذَلِكَ الَّذِي حَمَلَ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ عَلَى هَدْمِهِ قَالَ يَزِيدُ وَقَدْ شَهِدْتُ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ حِينَ هَدَمَهُ وَبَنَاهُ وَأَدْخَلَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْحِجْرِ وَرَأَيْتُ أَسَاسَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حِجَارَةً كَأَسْنِمَةِ الْإِبِلِ مُتَلَاحِكَةً  

The Prophet;; said, "Dhus-Suwaiqa-tain (literally: One with two lean legs) from Ethiopia will demolish the Kaʿba." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1591)  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُخَرِّبُ الْكَعْبَةَ ذُو السُّوَيْقَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْحَبَشَةِ»
