Even when heartbroken we never say that which displeases Allah

bukhari:1303al-Ḥasan b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz > Yaḥyá b. Ḥassān > Quraysh > Ibn Ḥayyān > Thābit > Anas b. Mālik

We went with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to the blacksmith Abū Sayf, and he was the husband of the wet nurse of Ibrāhīm, peace be upon him, (the son of the Prophet). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took Ibrāhīm and kissed him and smelled him and later we entered Abū Sayf's house and at that time Ibrāhīm was taking his last breaths, and the eyes of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ started shedding tears.

ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. ʿAwf said, "O Allah's Apostle, even you are weeping!" He said, "O Ibn ʿAwf, this is mercy." Then he wept more and said, "The eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord, O Ibrāhīm ! Indeed we are grieved by your separation."

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A child was born into me tonight night and I named him after my father Ibrāhīm." He then sent him to Umm Sayf, the wife of a blacksmith named Abū Sayf. ˹The Prophet ﷺ˺ went to him and I followed him until we reached Abu Sayf while he was blowing fire with the help of blacksmith's bellows and the house was filled with smoke. I hastened my step and went ahead of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Abū Sayf, stop it, as there comes the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He stopped and the Prophet ﷺ called for the child. He embraced him and said what Allah had desired. Anas said: I saw that the boy breathed his last in the presence of Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The eyes of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ shed tears and he said: "Our eyes shed tears and our hearts are filled with grief, but we do not say anything except that by which Allah is pleased. The one who was consoling him, either Abu Bakr or ‘Umar, said to him: ‘You are indeed the best of those who glorify Allah with what is due to him.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘The eye weeps and the heart grieves, but we do not say anything that angers the Lord. [Machine] When the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, Usama bin Zaid started crying. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is not from us, the one whose heart is filled with sadness and eyes are streaming with tears, and he does not say anything that angers the Lord."

ibnhibban:2902ʿImrān b. Mūsá b. Mujāshiʿ > Hudbah b. Khālid al-Qaysī > Sulaymān b. al-Mughīrah > Thābit > Anas

A child was born into me this night and I named him after the name of my father Ibrihim. He then sent him to Umm Saif, the wife of a blacksmith who was called Abu Saif. He (the Holy Prophet) went to him and I followed him until we reached Abu Saif and he was blowing fire with the help of blacksmith's bellows and the house was filled with smoke. I hastened my step and went ahead of Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Abu Saif, stop it, as there comes Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him). He stopped and Allah's Apostle ﷺ called for the child. He embraced him and said what Allah had desired. Anas said: I saw that the boy breathed his last in the presence of Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The eyes of Messenger of Allah ﷺ shed tears and he said: Ibrahim, our eyes shed tears and our hearts are filled with grief, but we do not say anything except that by which Allah is pleased. O Ibrahim, we are grieved for you. (Using translation from Muslim 2315)
