[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, I have lost my sight, and the rivers block my way to my mosque. I wish you had come and prayed in my house, a place I could make a mosque." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I will do so, God willing." He then passed by Abu Bakr and followed him until they reached my house. He asked for permission to enter, and I granted it. He asked me, while I was standing, where I wanted to pray. I pointed to the spot where I desired, and he said, "Then I will confine you in a room that we have prepared for you." The people of the neighborhood, meaning the people of Dar, heard and rushed to him until the house was filled. A man asked, "Where is Malik ibn Dukhshun?" Perhaps he said Malik ibn Dukhayshin. Another man said, "That is a hypocrite who does not love Allah or His Messenger." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not say that. He says 'There is no deity but Allah' to seek the face of Allah." The man said, "But we see his face and hear his speech for the hypocrites." The Prophet ﷺ said again, "Do not say that. He says 'There is no deity but Allah' to seek the face of Allah." The man said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ said, "A servant who says 'There is no deity but Allah' to seek the face of Allah will not be in Hell." Mahmoud said, "So I narrated this Hadith to a group of them, including Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari. He said, 'I do not think the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said what you said.' I said, 'If I return to Atban, I will ask him.' So I went back to him and found that he was an elderly man who had lost his sight, but he was the leader of his people. I sat next to him and asked him about this Hadith, and he narrated it to me as he did the first time. Ma'mar said, 'And then the obligations and matters were revealed, and we believe that the matter has reached its conclusion. Whoever can prevent himself from being deceived, let him not be deceived."

who was one of the companions of Messenger of Allah ﷺ and one of the Ansar's who took part in the battle of Badr: I came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ I have weak eyesight and I lead my people in prayers. When it rains the water flows in the valley between me and my people so I cannot go to their mosque to lead them in prayer. O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I wish you would come to my house and pray in it so that I could take that place as a Musalla. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said. "Allah willing, I will do so." Next day after the sun rose high, Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr came and Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked for permission to enter. I gave him permission and he did not sit on entering the house but said to me, "Where do you like me to pray?" I pointed to a place in my house. So Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood there and said, 'Allahu Akbar', and we all got up and aligned behind him and offered a two-rakʿat prayer and ended it with Taslim. We requested him to stay for a meal called "Khazira" which we had prepared for him. Many members of our family gathered in the house and one of them said, "Where is Malik bin Al-Dukhaishin or Ibn Al-Dukhshun?" One of them replied, "He is a hypocrite and does not love Allah and His Apostle." Hearing that, Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not say so. Haven't you seen that he said, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah' for Allah's sake only?" He said, "Allah and His Apostle know better. We have seen him helping and advising hypocrites." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah has forbidden the (Hell) fire for those who say, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah' for Allah's sake only."

bukhari:1185Isḥāq > Yaʿqūb b. Ibrāhīm from my father > Ibn Shihāb > Maḥmūd b. al-Rabīʿ al-Anṣārī > ʿAqal Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

that he remembered Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he also remembered a mouthful of water which he had thrown on his face, after taking it from a well that was in their house. Mahmud said that he had heard ʿItban bin Malik, who was present with Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the battle of Badr saying, "I used to lead my people at Bani Salim in the prayer and there was a valley between me and those people. Whenever it rained it used to be difficult for me to cross it to go to their mosque. So I went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'I have weak eyesight and the valley between me and my people flows during the rainy season and it becomes difficult for me to cross it; I wish you would come to my house and pray at a place so that I could take that place as a praying place.' Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I will do so.' So Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr came to my house in the (next) morning after the sun had risen high. Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked my permission to let him in and I admitted him. He did not sit before saying, 'Where do you want us to offer the prayer in your house?' I pointed to the place where I wanted him to pray. So Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up for the prayer and started the prayer with Takbir and we aligned in rows behind him; and he offered two rakʿat, and finished them with Taslim, and we also performed Taslim with him. I detained him for a meal called "Khazir" which I had prepared for him.--("Khazir" is a special type of dish prepared from barley flour and meat soup)-- When the neighbors got the news that Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in my house, they poured it till there were a great number of men in the house. One of them said, 'What is wrong with Malik, for I do not see him?' One of them replied, 'He is a hypocrite and does not love Allah and His Apostle.' On that Allah's Apostle said, 'Don't say this. Haven't you seen that he said, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah for Allah's sake only.' The man replied, 'Allah and His Apostle know better; but by Allah, we never saw him but helping and talking with the hypocrites.' Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, 'No doubt, whoever says. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and by that he wants the pleasures of Allah, then Allah will save him from Hell." Mahmud added, "I told the above narration to some people, one of whom was Abu Aiyub, the companion of Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the battle in which he (Abu Aiyub) died and Yazid bin Mu'awiya was their leader in Roman Territory. Abu Aiyub denounced the narration and said, 'I doubt that Messenger of Allah ﷺ ever said what you have said.' I felt that too much, and I vowed to Allah that if I remained alive in that holy battle, I would (go to Medina and) ask ʿItban bin Malik if he was still living in the mosque of his people. So when he returned, I assumed Ihram for Hajj or ʿUmra and then I proceeded on till I reached Medina. I went to Bani Salim and ʿItban bin Malik, who was by then an old blind man, was leading his people in the prayer. When he finished the prayer, I greeted him and introduced myself to him and then asked him about that narration. He told that narration again in the same manner as he had narrated it the first time."

Messenger of Allah, I have lost my eyesight and I lead my people in prayer. When there is a downpour there is then a current (of water) in the valley that stands between me and them and I find it impossible to go to their mosque and lead them in prayer. Messenger of Allah, I earnestly beg of you that you should come and observe prayer at a place of worship (in my house) so that I should then use it as a place of worship. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Well, it God so wills. I would soon do so. 'Itban said: On the following day when the day dawned, the Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) came along with Abu Bakr at-Siddiq, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked permission (to get into the house). I gave him the permission, and be did not sit after entering the house, when he said: At what place in your house you desire me to say prayer? I ('Itban b. Malik) said: I pointed to a corner in the house, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood (at that place for prayer) and pronounced Allah-o-Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) (as an expression for the commencement of prayer). We too stood behind him, and he said two rak'ahs and then pronounced salutation (marking the end of the prayer). We detained him (the Holy Prophet) for the meat curry we had prepared for, him. The people of the neighbouring houses came and thus there was a good gathering in (our house). One of them said: Where is Malik b. Dukhshun? Upon this one of them remarked: He is a hypocrite; he does not love Allah and His Messenger. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not say so about him. Don't you see that he utters La ilaha ill-Allah (There is no god but Allah) and seeks the pleasure of Allah through it? They said: Allah and His Messenger know beet. One (among the audience) said: We see his inclination and wellwishing for hypocrites only. Upon this the Messenger of Allah' ﷺ again said: Verily Allah has forbidden the Fire for one who says: There is no god but Allah, thereby seeking Allah's pleasure. Ibn Shihab said: I asked Husain b. Muhammad al-Ansar (he was one of the leaders of Banu Salim) about the hadith transmitted by Mahmud b. Rabi' and he testified it.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ invited me and said, "I have been informed that Khalid ibn Safwan ibn Nubayh al-Hadhali is gathering people to attack me while he is wearing a protective garment. Go to him and kill him." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, describe him to me so that I may recognize him." He said, "When you see him and notice goosebumps on your skin, proceed towards him and fear that there may be a plan between me and him to distract me from prayer. So I prayed while walking towards him and gestured with my head to indicate rukoo' and sujood. When I reached him, he asked, 'Who is this person?' I said, 'A man from the Arabs who heard about you and your gathering for this man, so he came to you.' He said, 'Indeed, I am that person.' He said, 'I walked with him for a while until I was able to bear the sword on him, and then I killed him. Then I left and abandoned his belongings on him. When I arrived before the Messenger of Allah, he saw me and said, 'Successful is the face.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have killed him.' He said, 'You have spoken the truth.' Then he stood up with me, the Messenger of Allah, and entered his house and gave me a staff and said, 'Hold onto this, O Abdullah ibn Unais.' So I went out to the people with it, and they said, 'What is this staff?' I said, 'The Messenger of Allah gave it to me and commanded me to hold onto it.' They said, 'Why don't you return to the Messenger of Allah and ask him about it?' He said, 'So I returned to the Messenger of Allah and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, why did you give me this staff?' He said, 'It is a sign between me and you on the Day of Judgment. Indeed, the fewest people on that day will be the ones carrying staffs.' Abdullah then tied it to his sword and kept it with him until he died. When he died, he was wrapped with it in his burial shroud and we were all buried together."

[Machine] He said, "O Messenger of Allah, a river separates me and the mosque of my people, so I would like for you to come to me and pray in a place in my house that I have made a mosque." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We will do that." So when the morning came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to Abu Bakr, and he followed him. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered, he said, "Where do you want?" I pointed to a spot in the house, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and we lined up behind him, and he prayed with us two units of prayer. We then built a fence around it and the people of the village heard, so they started to come, and the house became crowded. A man from the people asked, "Where is Malik ibn Dukhshum?" A man replied, "That is one of the hypocrites." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not say that, he says, 'There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah' seeking the face of Allah with it." He said, "As for us, we see his face and hear his speech." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not say that, he says, 'There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah' seeking the face of Allah with it." A man from the people said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If a slave fulfills this on the Day of Resurrection, saying, 'There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah' seeking the face of Allah with it, Allah will make forbidden for him the Fire." Mahmud narrated this to some people, among them was Abu Ayyub. He said, "I do not think the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said this." So I said, "If I return and the blind man is still alive, I will ask him." So I went to him and he was blind, but he was the leader of his people. I asked him, and he narrated to me just as he had before, and he was a Badri companion.

[Machine] I entered the mosque in Hims and sat in a gathering where there were thirty-two men who were companions of the Prophet ﷺ . One of them would say, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say," and then the other would say, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say," and so on. Among them was a man with a striking appearance. Whenever they had any doubts about something, they would refer it to him and be satisfied with what he said. I had never sat before or after this gathering that was like it. The people dispersed, and I didn't know the name or rank of any of them. I spent the night as I had never spent such a night before. I said to myself, "I am a man seeking knowledge, and I sat with the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ without knowing the name or rank of any of them." When morning came, I went to the mosque and found myself with the man they used to refer to when they had doubts. He was bowing on some pillars of the mosque, so I sat next to him. When he finished praying, I said to him, "O Abdullah, by Allah, I love you for the sake of Allah." He held me tightly until it hurt, then asked, "Do you really love me for the sake of Allah?" I said, "By Allah, I do love you for the sake of Allah." He said, "Then I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The people who love each other for the sake of Allah will be under the shade of Allah's Throne on a day when there will be no shade except His shade.'" I got up from beside him and found myself with a man from the group who used to be with him. I said to him, "I have heard a hadith from that man who said, 'He does not speak except the truth.'" He replied, "I have also heard that hadith, and I have heard even better hadiths from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ where he mentioned my name. My love for those who love each other for the sake of Allah is true, and my love for those who strive for my sake is true, and my love for those who meet each other for my sake is true." [Machine] He informed him that 'Utban ibn Malik, who was from the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and had participated in the Battle of Badr among the Ansar, came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have lost my eyesight, but I still pray for my people. When it rains, the valley between me and the mosque floods, and I cannot go to their mosque to pray for them. I wish that you, O Messenger of Allah, would come and pray in my house and make it a place of worship." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "I will do that." The next day, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and Abu Bakr As-Siddiq entered the house when the day had brightened. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sought permission, and I granted him permission. He did not sit down until he entered the house, and then he said, "Where would you like me to pray in your house?" I pointed to a corner of the house. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood up, said the Takbir, and we stood behind him. He prayed two Rak'ahs and then said the Salam. We detained him in a corner which we made for him. Some men from the people of the house surrounded him until a large number of men gathered in the house. One of them said, "Where is Malik ibn Dukhshun?" Some of them said, "He is a hypocrite and does not love Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to them, "Do not say that to him. Do you not see that he has said, 'There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah,' seeking the Face of Allah with that?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best. We only see his face and his advice to the hypocrites." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Indeed, Allah, the Most Exalted and High, has forbidden the Fire for whoever says, 'There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah,' seeking the Face of Allah with it."

[Machine] Jalibib was a man from the Ansar who used to visit women and talk to them. Abu Barzah said, "I told my wife, 'Jalibib should not enter upon you.'" The companions of the Prophet ﷺ used to not marry off their daughters until they knew whether the Messenger ﷺ wanted them or not. One day, the Prophet ﷺ said to a man from the Ansar, 'O so-and-so, marry your daughter to me.' He said, 'Yes, and may our eyes find rest.' The man asked, 'Is it for myself or someone else?' He replied, 'For Jalibib.' The man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, should I consult her mother?' He then went to her mother and said, 'Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is proposing to marry your daughter.' She replied, 'Yes, and may our eyes find rest.' He asked, 'Is it for himself or someone else?' She said, 'For Jalibib.' He questioned, 'For Jalibib?' She responded, 'By Allah, I will not marry Jalibib.' When her father stood up to go to the Prophet ﷺ , the girl asked her mother, 'Who proposed to you?' She said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' The girl then said, 'Will you reject the proposal of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or me? Accompany me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as he will not disappoint me.' So her father went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'What is your opinion regarding her?' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'Marry her to Jalibib.' Hammaad said, 'And do you know what he supplicated for her?' Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talhah narrated, 'What did he supplicate?' He said, 'O Allah, pour blessings on them abundantly and do not make their lives difficult.' Thabit said, 'So he married her to him.' While the Prophet ﷺ was in a battle, he asked, 'Is anyone missing?' They said, 'No.' He inquired, 'But I am missing Jalibib. Look for him among the martyrs.' They found him lying beside seven fallen enemies. Then they killed him. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'So he killed seven and they killed him? This act was from me, and I am pleased with him.' He mentioned this seven times, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed him on his arm. There was no bed that did not have the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ arm except for Jalibib's, until he was placed in his grave.' Thabit said, 'He was one of the Ansar who spent in charity whatever he possessed.'

[Machine] He told me that his sight went back to the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he said, "O Messenger of Allah, if you came to my house and assigned a mosque in it, and you prayed in it, and I made it a mosque, even though my sight was gone and I was weak in going out to the mosque, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ promised him that he would come to him on a day. So when that day came, his companions gathered in my house and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and heard them talking, the people of Al-Madina being more severe towards the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and having more enmity towards him. They informed Malik Ibn Dukhshum about it, so the Prophet ﷺ asked them, "What are you discussing?" Malik Ibn Dukhshum asked them, "Doesn't he testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?" They said, "O Messenger of Allah, he is a companion." He said, "Doesn't he testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?" They said, "Yes." He said, "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if he says it sincerely from his heart, it will never be the Fire that consumes him." Anas said to me, "Remember this hadith, for it is one of the treasures of knowledge." So when we came to Al-Madina, we found 'Utban bin Malik alive, so I said to my father, "Do you have anything to ask 'Utban about the hadith that Mahmoud narrated from him?" So we went and asked him about it, and he narrated it to us.

[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, I have lost my sight, and the paths prevent me from reaching the mosque of my people. I wish that you came and prayed in a designated place in my house. The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'I will do so, if Allah wills.' The Prophet ﷺ then passed by Abu Bakr and followed him. He entered and asked while standing, 'Where do you want me to pray?' I pointed to where I wanted him to pray, and then we confined him in a small enclosure that we made for him. The people of the valley, meaning the people of the house, heard about this and flocked to him until the house was filled. A man asked, 'Where is Malik bin Ad-Dukhshun or Ibn Ad-Dukhaysh?' Another man replied, 'He is a hypocrite who does not love Allah or His Messenger.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Do not say that while I am saying La ilaha illallah. He seeks by it the countenance of Allah.' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we see his face and hear his speech concerning the hypocrites.' The Prophet ﷺ said again, 'Do not say that while I am saying La ilaha illallah. He seeks by it the countenance of Allah.' They said, 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Therefore, on the Day of Resurrection, there will not be anyone who says La ilaha illallah seeking by it the countenance of Allah except that Allah will prohibit him from the Fire.' Mahmoud (the narrator) said, 'So I conveyed this Hadith to some people, including Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari, who said, 'I do not think the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said what you have said. If I return to Itban bin Malik, I will ask him.' So, I went back to him and found him to be an elderly man who had lost his sight, yet he was the leader of his people. I sat beside him and asked him about this Hadith, and he narrated it to me as he had before. Ma'mar said, 'When Az-Zuhri narrated this Hadith, he used to say, 'Then after that, obligations and matters were revealed. We consider this matter to have been completed. (Using translation from Muslim 33c)
