I went out along with my father during the hajj performed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. My father came near him; he was riding his she-camel. He stopped there and listened to him. He had a whip like the whip of the teachers. I heard the Bedouin and the people saying: Keep away from the whip. My father came up to him. He caught hold of his foot and acknowledged him (his Prophethood). He stopped and listened to him. He then said: I participated in the army of Athran (in the pre-Islamic days). The narrator, Ibn al-Muthanna, said: Army of Gathran. Tariq ibn al-Muraqqa' said: Who will give me a lance and get a reward? I asked: What is its reward? He replied: I shall marry him to my first daughter born to me. So I gave him my lance and then disappeared from him till I knew that a daughter was born to him and she came of age. I then came to him and said: Send my wife to me. He swore that he would not do that until I fixed a dower afresh other than that agreed between me and him, and I swore that I should not give him the dower other than that I had given him before. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: How old is she now? He said: She has grown old. He said: I think you should leave her. He said: This put awe and fear into me, and I looked at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When he felt this in me, he said: You will not be sinful, nor will your companion be sinful. Abu Dawud said: Qatir means old age.  

خَرَجْتُ مَعَ أَبِي فِي حَجَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَدَنَا إِلَيْهِ أَبِي وَهُوَ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ لَهُ فَوَقَفَ لَهُ وَاسْتَمَعَ مِنْهُ وَمَعَهُ دِرَّةٌ كَدِرَّةِ الْكُتَّابِ فَسَمِعْتُ الأَعْرَابَ وَالنَّاسَ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ الطَّبْطَبِيَّةَ الطَّبْطَبِيَّةَ الطَّبْطَبِيَّةَ فَدَنَا إِلَيْهِ أَبِي فَأَخَذَ بِقَدَمِهِ فَأَقَرَّ لَهُ وَوَقَفَ عَلَيْهِ وَاسْتَمَعَ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ إِنِّي حَضَرْتُ جَيْشَ عِثْرَانَ قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى جَيْشَ غِثْرَانَ فَقَالَ طَارِقُ بْنُ الْمُرَقَّعِ مَنْ يُعْطِينِي رُمْحًا بِثَوَابِهِ قُلْتُ وَمَا ثَوَابُهُ قَالَ أُزَوِّجُهُ أَوَّلَ بِنْتٍ تَكُونُ لِي فَأَعْطَيْتُهُ رُمْحِي ثُمَّ غِبْتُ عَنْهُ حَتَّى عَلِمْتُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ وُلِدَ لَهُ جَارِيَةٌ وَبَلَغَتْ ثُمَّ جِئْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَهْلِي جَهِّزْهُنَّ إِلَىَّ فَحَلَفَ أَنْ لاَ يَفْعَلَ حَتَّى أُصْدِقَهُ صَدَاقًا جَدِيدًا غَيْرَ الَّذِي كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ وَحَلَفْتُ لاَ أُصْدِقُ غَيْرَ الَّذِي أَعْطَيْتُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَبِقَرْنِ أَىِّ النِّسَاءِ هِيَ الْيَوْمَ قَالَ قَدْ رَأَتِ الْقَتِيرَ قَالَ أَرَى أَنْ تَتْرُكَهَا قَالَ فَرَاعَنِي ذَلِكَ وَنَظَرْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ مِنِّي قَالَ لاَ تَأْثَمُ وَلاَ يَأْثَمُ صَاحِبُكَ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ invited me and said, "I have been informed that Khalid ibn Safwan ibn Nubayh al-Hadhali is gathering people to attack me while he is wearing a protective garment. Go to him and kill him." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, describe him to me so that I may recognize him." He said, "When you see him and notice goosebumps on your skin, proceed towards him and fear that there may be a plan between me and him to distract me from prayer. So I prayed while walking towards him and gestured with my head to indicate rukoo' and sujood. When I reached him, he asked, 'Who is this person?' I said, 'A man from the Arabs who heard about you and your gathering for this man, so he came to you.' He said, 'Indeed, I am that person.' He said, 'I walked with him for a while until I was able to bear the sword on him, and then I killed him. Then I left and abandoned his belongings on him. When I arrived before the Messenger of Allah, he saw me and said, 'Successful is the face.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have killed him.' He said, 'You have spoken the truth.' Then he stood up with me, the Messenger of Allah, and entered his house and gave me a staff and said, 'Hold onto this, O Abdullah ibn Unais.' So I went out to the people with it, and they said, 'What is this staff?' I said, 'The Messenger of Allah gave it to me and commanded me to hold onto it.' They said, 'Why don't you return to the Messenger of Allah and ask him about it?' He said, 'So I returned to the Messenger of Allah and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, why did you give me this staff?' He said, 'It is a sign between me and you on the Day of Judgment. Indeed, the fewest people on that day will be the ones carrying staffs.' Abdullah then tied it to his sword and kept it with him until he died. When he died, he was wrapped with it in his burial shroud and we were all buried together."  

دَعَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ قَدْ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ نُبَيْحٍ الْهُذَلِيَّ يَجْمَعُ لِي النَّاسَ لِيَغْزُوَنِي وَهُوَ بِعُرَنَةَ فَأْتِهِ فَاقْتُلْهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ انْعَتْهُ لِي حَتَّى أَعْرِفَهُ قَالَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَهُ وَجَدْتَ لَهُ إِقْشَعْرِيَرَةً قَالَ فَخَرَجْتُ مُتَوَشِّحًا بِسَيْفِي حَتَّى وَقَعْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ بِعُرَنَةَ مَعَ ظُعُنٍ يَرْتَادُ لَهُنَّ مَنْزِلًا وَحِينَ كَانَ وَقْتُ الْعَصْرِ فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُهُ وَجَدْتُ مَا وَصَفَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْإِقْشَعْرِيرَةِ فَأَقْبَلْتُنَحْوَهُ وَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يَكُونَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ مُحَاوَلَةٌ تَشْغَلُنِي عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّيْتُ وَأَنَا أَمْشِي نَحْوَهُ أُومِئُ بِرَأْسِي الرُّكُوعَ وَالسُّجُودَ فَلَمَّا انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ مَنِ الرَّجُلُ؟ قُلْتُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ سَمِعَ بِكَ وَبِجَمْعِكَ لِهَذَا الرَّجُلِ فَجَاءَكَ لِهَذَا قَالَ أَجَلْ أَنَا فِي ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَمَشَيْتُ مَعَهُ شَيْئًا حَتَّى إِذَا أَمْكَنَنِي حَمَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ السَّيْفَ حَتَّى قَتَلْتُهُ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ وَتَرَكْتُ ظَعَائِنَهُ مُكِبَّاتٍ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَرَآنِي فَقَالَ أَفْلَحَ الْوَجْهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ قَتَلْتُهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ صَدَقْتَ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَامَ مَعِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَدَخَلَ بِي بَيْتَهُ فَأَعْطَانِي عَصًا فَقَالَ أَمْسِكْ هَذِهِ عِنْدَكَ يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أُنَيْسٍ قَالَ فَخَرَجْتُ بِهَا عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالُوا مَا هَذِهِ الْعَصَا؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَعْطَانِيهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَمْسِكَهَا قَالُوا أَوَلَا تَرْجِعُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَتَسْأَلَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لِمَ أَعْطَيْتَنِي هَذِهِ الْعَصَا؟ قَالَ آيَةٌ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِنَّ أَقَلَّ النَّاسِ الْمُتَخَصِّرُونَ يَوْمَئِذٍ قَالَ فَقَرَنَهَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بِسَيْفِهِ فَلَمْ تَزَلْ مَعَهُ حَتَّى إِذَامَاتَ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَصُبَّتْ مَعَهُ فِي كَفَنِهِ ثُمَّ دُفِنَا جَمِيعًا  

[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Mecca while he was riding a camel. I was with my father and I had a shiny pearl in my hand, like the brilliance of a written script. I heard the Bedouins and people saying "Al-Tabtabiya, Al-Tabtabiya", so my father approached him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took hold of his foot and approved him. He said, "I have not forgotten the length of his big toe compared to the rest of his toes." He said, "I witnessed the Battle of Uhud." She said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recognized that battle." Tariq bin Al-Muraqqi' said, "Who will give me a spear in return?" He said, "What is its reward?" He said, "I will marry him off to my first daughter who will be born to me." He said, "So I gave him my spear and then left it until he had a daughter and she reached adulthood. So I went to him and said, 'Prepare my family for me.' He said, 'By Allah, no! I will not prepare her until she marries someone else.' So I swore not to do so." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "With which of the two women did she find fault?" I said, "She saw the belt." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at me and said, "Leave her. There is no benefit for you in her." He said, "That frightened me, and he looked at me and said, 'You will not commit a sin, nor will she commit a sin.' And he mentioned the rest of the Hadith."  

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِمَكَّةَ وَهُوَ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ لَهُ وَأَنَا مَعَ أَبِي وَبِيَدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ دِرَّةٌ كَدِرَّةِ الْكُتَّابِ فَسَمِعْتُ الْأَعْرَابَ وَالنَّاسَ يَقُولُونَ الطَّبْطَبِيَّةَ الطَّبْطَبِيَّةَ فَدَنَا مِنْهُ أَبِي فَأَخَذَ بِقَدَمِهِ وَأَقَرَّ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ فَمَا نَسِيتُ طُولَ أُصْبُعِ قَدَمِهِ السَّبَّابَةِ عَلَى سَائِرِ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنِّي شَهِدْتُ جَيْشَ عَثْرَانَ قَالَتْ فَعَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَلِكَ الْجَيْشَ فَقَالَ طَارِقُ بْنُ الْمُرَقَّعِ مَنْ يُعْطِينِي رُمْحًا بِثَوَابِهِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ وَمَا ثَوَابُهُ قَالَ أُزَوِّجُهُ أَوَّلَ ابْنَةٍ تَكُونُ لِي قَالَ فَأَعْطَيْتُهُ رُمْحِي ثُمَّ تَرَكْتُهُ حَتَّى وُلِدَ لَهُ ابْنَةٌ وَبَلَغَتْ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ جَهِّزْ إِلِيَّ أَهْلِي قَالَ لَا وَاللهِ لَا أُجَهِّزُهَا حَتَّى تُحْدِثَ صَدَاقًا غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ فَحَلَفْتُ أَنْ لَا أَفْعَلَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَبِقَرْنِ أِيِّ النِّسَاءِ هِيَ؟ قُلْتُ قَدْ رَأَتِ الْقَتِيرَ قَالَ فَنَظَرَ إِلِيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ دَعْهَا لَا خَيْرَ لَكَ فِيهَا قَالَ فَرَاعَنِي ذَلِكَ وَنَظَرَ إِلِيَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا تَأْثَمُ وَلَا يَأْثَمُ وَذَكَرَ بَاقِيَ الْحَدِيثِ  

[Machine] A man made a vow during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to slaughter a sheep in a place called Buwānah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Was there in it a statue of the idols of the pre-Islamic era that was worshipped?" They replied, "No." He then asked, "Was there in it a festival of their festivals?" They replied, "No." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Fulfill your vow, for there is no fulfilling of a vow in disobedience to Allah or in acquiring what the son of Adam does not possess." Abu Al-Husayn ibn Bishr narrated to us from Abu Al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad Al-Misri, who narrated to us from Malik ibn Yahya, who narrated to us from Yazid ibn Harun, who narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Yazid ibn Miqsam, who narrated to me from my aunt Sarah bint Miqsam, who narrated to me from Maymunah bint Kardam: She said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Makkah while he was riding on a camel, and I was with my father. I mentioned the subject of my vow to him. My father said to him, 'I have made a vow to slaughter a certain number of sheep.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, 'I do not know except that it is fifty sheep on top of Buwānah.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then asked, 'Was there anything from these idols on it?' He replied, 'No.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, 'Fulfill what you have vowed to Allah.'" She said, "My father gathered the sheep and began to slaughter them, but one of them ran away. He sought it while saying, 'O Allah, fulfill my vow for me.' Then he got hold of it and slaughtered it."  

نَذَرَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَنْحَرَ بِبُوَانَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هَلْ كَانَ فِيهَا وَثَنٌ مِنْ أَوْثَانِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يُعْبَدُ؟ قَالُوا لَا قَالَ فَهَلْ كَانَ فِيهَا عِيدٌ مِنْ أَعْيَادِهِمْ؟ قَالُوا لَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَوْفِ بِنَذْرِكَ فَإِنَّهُ لَا وَفَاءَ لِنَذْرٍ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللهِ وَلَا فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ ابْنُ آدَمَ 20140 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا مَالِكُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مِقْسَمٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ضَبَّةَ حَدَّثَتْنِي عَمَّتِي سَارَةُ بِنْتُ مِقْسَمٍ عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتِ كَرْدَمٍ قَالَتْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِمَكَّةَ وَهُوَ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ لَهُ وَأَنَا مَعَ أَبِي فَذَكَرَتِ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَتْ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبِي فِي ذَلِكَ الْمَقَامِ إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ أَنْ أَذْبَحَ عِدَّةً مِنَ الْغَنَمِ قَالَ لَا أَعْلَمُ إِلَّا قَالَ خَمْسِينَ شَاةً عَلَى رَأْسِ بُوَانَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هَلْ عَلَيْهَا مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأَوْثَانِ شَيْءٌ؟ قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَأَوْفِ لِلَّهِ مَا نَذَرْتَ لَهُ قَالَتْ فَجَمَعَهَا أَبِي فَجَعَلَ يَذْبَحُهَا فَانْفَلَتَتْ مِنْهُ شَاةٌ فَطَلَبَهَا وَهُوَ يَقُولُ اللهُمَّ أَوْفِ عَنِّي نَذْرِي حَتَّى أَخَذَهَا فَذَبَحَهَا
