[Machine] the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , was commanded to pray for the people of Al-Baqi and he prayed for them three times in his night prayer. When he prayed for them the third time, he said, "O Abu Muawiyah, saddle my mount for me." So I saddled the mount for him, and he rode and went to the people of Al-Baqi. Then he alighted and stood among them. He said, "May you be refined by what you have faced from among the tribulations that come one after another, like pieces of a dark night. Some of them are worse than the others. May you be refined by what you have faced from them." Then the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , came and said, "O Abu Muawiyah, I have been given, or I have been given the choice of the keys of what Allah will open for my nation after me, whether it is Paradise or meeting with my Lord." I said, "By my father and mother, O Messenger of Allah, I chose the meeting with my Lord." He said, "I have chosen the meeting with my Lord." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , did not stay except for seven or eight nights before he passed away.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me an example of this Ummah: There are four individuals. The first is a person to whom Allah has given knowledge and wealth, so he acts upon his knowledge in his wealth. The second is a person to whom Allah has given knowledge, but not wealth, so he says, "If Allah had given me what He gave to this person, I would have acted in the same way as he does." Their rewards are equal. The third is a person to whom Allah has given wealth, but not knowledge, so he uses his wealth in wrongful ways, without fearing Allah or maintaining family ties. The fourth is a person who has neither been given knowledge nor wealth, so he says, "If Allah had given me what He gave to this person, I would have acted in the same way as he does." They are equal in sin.

So I went forth, or he said: "So we went forth," and when we reached Al-Baqi, he sought forgiveness for the people of the graves. Then he said, "May you be blessed with what you have experienced until now. If you only knew what has been saved for you by Allah, you would have seen that trials would descend upon you like the darkest part of the night. The last of them would go on while the first of them is even worse than the last." Then he said, "O Abu Muwayhibah, did you know that Allah has bestowed upon me the treasures of the earth and eternal life in it, followed by Paradise and the meeting with my Lord?" I said, "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, so take the keys to the treasures of the earth and eternal life in it." He said, "No, O Abu Muwayhibah, I have chosen the meeting with my Lord." Then he sought forgiveness for the people of the graves and then left. When morning came, he began to complain of the ailment that he passed away from. (Sahih Muslim)

I heard him saying, "Take the gifts as long as they are gifts. But when the Quraysh starts to fight over kingdom, then these gifts become bribery against your religion, so do not take them."
