Ibn Abbas said to me and to his son Ali, "Go to Abu Sa'id and listen to what he narrates." So we went and found him in a garden looking after it. He picked up his Rida', wore it and sat down and started narrating till the topic of the construction of the mosque reached.

He said: "We were carrying one adobe at a time while Ammar was carrying two. The Prophet ﷺ saw him and started removing the dust from his body and said: 'May mercy be upon Ammar, the rebellious group will kill him while he will be inviting them to Jannah and they will invite him to the Hellfire.'" Ammar said, "I seek refuge with Allah from affliction."

قَالَ لِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَلاِبْنِهِ عَلِيٍّ انْطَلِقَا إِلَى أَبِي سَعِيدٍ فَاسْمَعَا مِنْ حَدِيثِهِ فَانْطَلَقْنَا فَإِذَا هُوَ فِي حَائِطٍ يُصْلِحُهُ فَأَخَذَ رِدَاءَهُ فَاحْتَبَى ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُنَا حَتَّى أَتَى ذِكْرُ بِنَاءِ الْمَسْجِدِ

فَقَالَ كُنَّا نَحْمِلُ لَبِنَةً لَبِنَةً وَعَمَّارٌ لَبِنَتَيْنِ لَبِنَتَيْنِ فَرَآهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَيَنْفُضُ التُّرَابَ عَنْهُ وَيَقُولُ وَيْحَ عَمَّارٍ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَيَدْعُونَهُ إِلَى النَّارِ قَالَ يَقُولُ عَمَّارٌ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الْفِتَنِ

The Prophet ﷺ gave the verdict that ʿUmra is for the one to whom it is presented.

قَضَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِالْعُمْرَى أَنَّهَا لِمَنْ وُهِبَتْ لَهُ

that Ibn Abbas told him and Ali b. Abdullah to go to Abu Sa'id and listen to some of his narrations; So they both went and Abu Sa'id and his brother were irrigating a garden belonging to them. When he saw us, he came up to and sat down with his legs drawn up and wrapped in his garment and said: ˹During the construction of the mosque of the Prophet˺ we carried the adobe of the masjid, one brick at a time while Ammar used to carry two at a time.

The Prophet ﷺ passed by Ammar and removed the dust off his head and said, "May Allah have mercy on Ammar, he will be killed by the rebellious group. Ammar will invite them to Allah and they will invite him to the Hellfire."

أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ لَهُ وَلِعَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ائْتِيَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ فَاسْمَعَا مِنْ حَدِيثِهِ فَأَتَيْنَاهُ وَهُوَ وَأَخُوهُ فِي حَائِطٍ لَهُمَا يَسْقِيَانِهِ فَلَمَّا رَآنَا جَاءَ فَاحْتَبَى وَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ كُنَّا نَنْقُلُ لَبِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ لَبِنَةً لَبِنَةً وَكَانَ عَمَّارٌ يَنْقُلُ لَبِنَتَيْنِ لَبِنَتَيْنِ

فَمَرَّ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَمَسَحَ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ الْغُبَارَ وَقَالَ وَيْحَ عَمَّارٍ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ عَمَّارٌ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَيَدْعُونَهُ إِلَى النَّارِ

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that dogs be killed.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3202)

«أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to Ammar, "Woe to you, O son of Sumayyah, the treacherous group will kill you." Ammar replied, and then 'Amr said to Mu'awiyah, "Don't you hear what he is saying?" Mu'awiyah replied, "Do you still blame us when it was them who brought him (to fight against us)?"

سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لِعَمَّارٍ وَيْحَكَ يَا ابْنَ سُمَيَّةَ تَقْتُلُكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ ؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ عَمْرٌو لِمُعَاوِيَةَ أَلَا تَسْمَعُ مَا يَقُولُ هَذَا؟ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ لَا تَزَالُ تَأْتِينَا بِهَنَةٍ أَنَحْنُ قَتَلْنَاهُ؟ إِنَّمَا قَتَلَهُ الَّذِينَ جَاءُوا بِهِ

[AI] While I was with Muawiyah, two men came to him arguing about the killing of Ammar. Each of them claimed, "I killed him." Abdullah bin Amr said, "Let one of you take responsibility for the killing of his companion, as I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'A guilty group will kill him.'" Muawiyah asked him, "What is your position in this matter?" He said, "My father complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about me, so he said, 'Obey your father as long as he is alive and do not disobey him.' So I am with you all and I am not fighting."

بَيْنَمَا أَنَا عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ إِذْ جَاءَهُ رَجُلَانِ يَخْتَصِمَانِ فِي رَأْسِ عَمَّارٍ يَقُولُ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا أَنَا قَتَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو لِيَطِبْ بِهِ أَحَدُكُمَا نَفْسًا لِصَاحِبِهِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَمَا بَالُكَ مَعَنَا؟ قَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي شَكَانِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَطِعْ أَبَاكَ مَا دَامَ حَيًّا وَلَا تَعْصِهِ فَأَنَا مَعَكُمْ وَلَسْتُ أُقَاتِلُ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "He will be killed by a rebellious group," meaning 'Ammaar. So 'Amr said to Mu'awiya, "Listen to what he is saying." Then he informed him, and Mu'awiya said, "Did we kill him? He was only killed by those who brought him."

إِنِّي لَأُسَايِرُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ وَمُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو لِعَمْرٍو سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ يَعْنِي عَمَّارًا فَقَالَ عَمْرٌو لِمُعَاوِيَةَ اسْمَعْ مَا يَقُولُ هَذَا فَحَدَّثَهُ فَقَالَ أَنَحْنُ قَتَلْنَاهُ؟ إِنَّمَا قَتَلَهُ مَنْ جَاءَ بِهِ

When I (Ḥanẓalah) was with Muʿāwiyah, two men came to him arguing about the head of ʿAmār. Each of them was saying: I killed him. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr said ...

بَيْنَمَا أَنَا عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ إِذْ جَاءَهُ رَجُلَانِ يَخْتَصِمَانِ فِي رَأْسِ عَمَّارٍ يَقُولُ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا أَنَا قَتَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو لِيَطِبْ بِهِ أَحَدُكُمَا نَفْسًا لِصَاحِبِهِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ يَعْنِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ [قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ] كَذَا قَالَ أَبِي يَعْنِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ أَلَا تُغْنِي عَنَّا مَجْنُونَكَ يَا عَمْرُو؟ فَمَا بَالُكَ مَعَنَا؟ قَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي شَكَانِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَطِعْ أَبَاكَ مَا دَامَ حَيًّا وَلَا تَعْصِهِ فَأَنَا مَعَكُمْ وَلَسْتُ أُقَاتِلُ

A group of rebels would kill you. (Using translation from Muslim 2916a)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِعَمَّارٍ تَقْتُلُكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ

[AI] He informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ decreed that Umrah is for whoever is granted it.

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَضَى فِي الْعُمْرَى أَنَّهَا لِمَنْ وُهِبَتْ لَهُ

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from entering the unseen realms."

نَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَدْخُلَ عَلَى الْمُغِيبَاتِ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Allah said: 'Do not take My servants as idols.'"

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ قَالَ اللهُ لَا تُمَثِّلُوا بِعِبَادِي

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from entering the inaccessible.

نَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَدْخُلَ عَلَى الْمُغِيبَاتِ

[AI] Amr ibn al-As gave gifts to some people, and he showed preference to Ammar ibn Yasir. It was said to him (asked why he did so), and he replied, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “The rebellious group will kill him.”'

أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ أَهْدَى إِلَى نَاسٍ هَدَايَا فَفَضَّلَ عَمَّارَ بْنَ يَاسِرٍ فَقِيلَ لَهُ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ

[AI] When Ammar ibn Yasir was killed, Amr ibn Hazm came to Amr ibn al-As and said, "Ammar has been killed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'He will be killed by the rebellious group.'" Amr ibn al-As got up in fear, repeatedly saying it, until he went to Muawiya. Muawiya asked him, "What is the matter with you?" He replied, "Ammar has been killed." Muawiya said, "Ammar has been killed, so what?" Amr said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'He will be killed by the rebellious group.'" Muawiya then said to him, "You've been caught out in your words. Did we kill him? Rather, it was Ali and his companions who brought him until they put him between our spears or between our swords."

لَمَّا قُتِلَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ دَخَلَ عَمْرُو بْنُ حَزْمٍ عَلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ فَقَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ وَقَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ فَقَامَ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ فَزِعًا يُرَجِّعُ حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَا شَأْنُكَ؟ قَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ قَدْ قُتِلَ عَمَّارٌ فَمَاذَا؟ قَالَ عَمْرٌو سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ دُحِضْتَ فِي بَوْلِكَ أَوَنَحْنُ قَتَلْنَاهُ؟ إِنَّمَا قَتَلَهُ عَلِيٌّ وَأَصْحَابُهُ جَاءُوا بِهِ حَتَّىأَلْقَوْهُ بَيْنَ رِمَاحِنَا أَوْ قَالَ بَيْنَ سُيُوفِنَا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Fear the fire, even if it is with half a date."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say. . . He then mentioned the tradition to the same effect. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4492)

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ فَذَكَرَهُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of the fire, even if it's with half a date."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ

“Whoever plunders is not one of us.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3937)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَنِ انْتَهَبَ نُهْبَةً فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Whoever kills, the spoils are his.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2838)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ قَتَلَ فَلَهُ السَّلَبُ

“Whoever plunders is not one of us.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3937)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَنِ انْتَهَبَ نُهْبَةً فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا

"I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Perform Wudu' from that which has been touched by fire.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 171)

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَوَضَّئُوا مِمَّا مَسَّتِ النَّارُ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Umra (a gift given for life) is for the heir.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3716)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْعُمْرَى لِلْوَارِثِ

"I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Perform Wudu' from that which has been touched by fire.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 171)

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَوَضَّئُوا مِمَّا مَسَّتِ النَّارُ

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the likes of it."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مِثْلَهُ

[AI] Abu Qatadah informed me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Ammar ibn Yasir, "You will be killed by the rebellious group."

أَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي أَبُو قَتَادَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِعَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ تَقْتُلُكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ

I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "A tale-bearer will not enter Jannah." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6056)

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ قَتَّاتٌ

The Prophet ﷺ said: There is no ghoul. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3913)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ هَدَايَا الْعُمَّالِ غُلُولٌ

[AI] When Ammar ibn Yasir was killed, Amr ibn Hazm entered upon Amr ibn al-As and said, "Ammar has been killed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said, 'The transgressing group will kill him.'"

لَمَّا قُتِلَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ دَخَلَ عَمْرُو بْنُ حَزْمٍ عَلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ فَقَالَ قُتِلَ عَمَّارُ وَقَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ

[AI] The translation of the passage into English is as follows: "The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: Whoever is held accountable will be punished."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ حُوسِبَ عُذِّبَ

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that dogs be killed.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3202)

أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ الْعِينِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of the Hellfire, even if it is with half a date."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّتَمْرَةٍ

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited the house at night.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ زَارَ الْبَيْتَ لَيْلًا

"Geckos are vermin." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2886)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ الْوَزَغُ فُوَيْسِقٌ

[AI] I heard Ibn Umar when a man asked him about which animals a pilgrim in Ihram is allowed to kill. He said one of the women narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The pilgrim may kill the kite, the crow, the rabid dog, the mouse, and the scorpion."

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ وَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ عَمَّا يَقْتُلُ الْمُحْرِمُ مِنَ الدَّوَابِّ فَقَالَ حَدَّثَتْنِي إِحْدَى النِّسْوَةِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَقْتُلُ الْحُدَيَّا وَالْغُرَابَ وَالْكَلْبَ الْعَقُورَ وَالْفَأْرَةَ وَالْعَقْرَبَ

[AI] I have not forgotten what he said on the day of the trench while he was offering them milk, and his chest was covered with dust while saying, "O Allah, indeed the good is the good of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajireen." Then he saw 'Ammar and said, "Woe to him, the son of Sumayyah, he will be killed by a rebellious group." He mentioned it to Muhammad, meaning Ibn Sireen, who asked, "About his mother?" I said, "Yes, indeed she used to mix with them while snow falls on her."

مَا نَسِيتُ قَوْلَهُ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ وَهُوَ يُعَاطِيهِمُ اللَّبَنَ وَقَدْ اغْبَرَّ شَعْرُ صَدْرِهِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ اللهُمَّ إِنَّ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرُ الْآخِرَهْ فَاغْفِرْ لِلْأَنْصَارِ وَالْمُهَاجِرَهْ قَالَ فَرَأَى عَمَّارًا فَقَالَ وَيْحَهُ ابْنُ سُمَيَّةَ تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ قَالَ فَذَكَرْتُهُ لِمُحَمَّدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سِيرِينَ فَقَالَ عَنْ أُمِّهِ؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ أَمَا إِنَّهَا كَانَتْ تُخَالِطُهَا تَلِجُ عَلَيْهَا

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِعَمَّارٍ تَقْتُلُكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ

[AI] I have not forgotten what happened on the Day of the Trench, when his chest became covered and he gave them milk. He said, "O Allah, the best is the best in the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajireen." Ammar approached and when he saw him, he said, "Woe to you, Ibn Sumayyah, the rebellious group will kill you!" I told him about Muhammad, and he said, "Is it not his mother that used to take care of the mother of the believers?"

مَا نَسِيتُهُ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ وَقَدِ اغْبَرَّ صَدْرُهُ وَهُوَ يُعَاطِيهِمُ اللَّبَنَ وَيَقُولُ اللهُمَّ إِنَّ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرُ الْآخِرَهْ فَاغْفِرْ لِلْأَنْصَارِ وَالْمُهَاجِرَهْ قَالَ فَأَقْبَلَ عَمَّارٌ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ قَالَ وَيْحَكَ ابْنَ سُمَيَّةَتَقْتُلُكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ قَالَ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ مُحَمَّدًا فَقَالَ عَنْ أُمِّهِ؟ أَمَا إِنَّهَا قَدْ كَانَتْ تَلِجُ عَلَى أَمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Yahya said, "Malik related to us from Ibn Shihab from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The pledge given as security is not forfeited.' " Malik said, "The explanation of that according to what we think - and Allah knows best - is that a man gives a pledge to somebody in security for something. The pledge is superior to that for which he pawned it. The pledger says to the pawn-broker, 'I will bring you your due, after such-and-such a time. If not, the pledge is yours for what it was pawned for.' " Malik said, "This transaction is not good and it is not halal. This is what was forbidden. If the owner brings what he pledged it for after the period, it is his. I think that the time condition is void."

أنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قالَ: «لا يَغْلَقُ الرَّهْنُ» -[٧٢٩]- قالَ مالِكٌ: «وتَفْسِيرُ ذَلِكَ فِيما نُرى، واللَّهُ أعْلَمُ، أنْ يَرْهَنَ الرَّجُلُ الرَّهْنَ عِنْدَ الرَّجُلِ بِالشَّيْءِ، وفِي الرَّهْنِ فَضْلٌ عَمّا رُهِنَ بِهِ، فَيَقُولُ الرّاهِنُ لِلْمُرْتَهِنِ: إنْ جِئْتُكَ بِحَقِّكَ، إلى أجَلٍ يُسَمِّيهِ لَهُ، وإلّا فالرَّهْنُ لَكَ بِما رُهِنَ فِيهِ» قالَ: «فَهَذا لا يَصْلُحُ ولا يَحِلُّ، وهَذا الَّذِي نُهِيَ عَنْهُ، وإنْ جاءَ صاحِبُهُ بِالَّذِي رَهَنَ بِهِ بَعْدَ الأجَلِ، فَهُوَ لَهُ، وأُرى هَذا الشَّرْطَ مُنْفَسِخًا»

The Prophet ﷺ said: The contractual obligation of a slave is three days. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3506)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «عُهْدَةُ الرَّقِيقِ أَرْبَعُ لَيَالٍ»
