40. Chapter (7/7)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited drinking from the mouth of a vessel.
[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ , it was prohibited for a man to drink from a container (filled with water) before testing its cleanness. Ayyub narrated that he was informed that a man drank from a container (filled with water) and then a snake came out of it. I heard Ali ibn Bishran informing us, Abu Amr ibn as-Sammak narrated to us, from Hanbal, who said: Abu Abdullah Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to us, from Isma'il, who mentioned it, and it was narrated by Khalid al-Hadha from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade drinking from containers, saying that it is prohibited. This is narrated as a definite statement. As for what is narrated regarding using a water skin, the reports of prohibition are stronger in terms of their chain of transmission. Some scholars have suggested that if the water skin is hung up, don't put it on the ground. We have mentioned this in the book of knowledge and the book of comprehensive rulings.
40.69 [Machine] The right, then the right in drinking.
[Machine] Anas ibn Malik heard me say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina when I was ten years old, and he passed away when I was twenty years old. My mothers used to encourage me to serve him. The Prophet ﷺ entered our house, and we milked a sheep that we had for him. We had a bucket from a well in our house, Abu Bakr was on his left, a Bedouin on his right, and Umar was nearby. The Prophet ﷺ drank and Umar said, 'Give it to Abu Bakr,' and then the Bedouin, and the right side (referring to himself) ended the narration of Sa'dan.
A drink (milk mixed with water) was brought to Messenger of Allah ﷺ who drank some of it. A boy was sitting to his right, and some old men to his left. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to the boy, "Do you allow me to give the rest of the drink to these people?" The boy said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I will not give preference to anyone over me to drink the rest of it from which you have drunk." Messenger of Allah ﷺ then handed the bowl (of drink) to the boy. (See Hadith No. 541). (Using translation from Bukhārī 2451)
40.70 [Machine] Saqi Al-Qawmi Akhiruhum
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was traveling when the people became thirsty. He stopped at a place and the companions of the Prophet ﷺ began saying, "O Messenger of Allah, drink. O Messenger of Allah, drink." He said, "The one who serves the people is the last to drink."
[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they became thirsty, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave them water to drink. It was said, "Don't you drink, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "I am the last of my people to drink." And we have narrated this in the proven hadith from Abu Qatadah from the Prophet ﷺ in the Book of Prayer.
40.71 [Machine] What does he say when he finishes eating?
Whenever the dining sheet of the Prophet ﷺ was taken away (i.e., whenever he finished his meal), he used to say: "Al-hamdu li l-lah kathiran taiyiban mubarakan fihi ghaira makfiy wala muWadaʿ wala mustaghna'anhu Rabbuna." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5458)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to say, when he finished his supper, "Alhamduillah hamdan kathiran tayyiban mubarakan ghayra makfiyyan wa la muwadda'an wa la mustaghna 'anhu Rabbana."
40.72 [Machine] Supplication to the Lord of the Food
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sought permission to enter upon Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah and said, "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah." Sa'd replied, "And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ did not hear him until he greeted him three times, and Sa'd responded three times. When the Prophet ﷺ did not hear him, he returned and Sa'd followed him. Sa'd said, "O Messenger of Allah, by my father, I did not respond to your greeting except when it reached my ear. I replied to you, and I did not hear you. I wanted to increase your greeting and blessings." Then they entered the house, and the Prophet ﷺ presented him with some raisins. The Prophet ﷺ ate, and when he finished, he said, "The righteous have eaten your food, the angels have invoked blessings upon you, and the fasting have broken their fast with you." It was narrated by Ja'far bin Sulayman Ad-Duba'i from Thabit from Anas who said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to visit the Ansar and mentioned a story about his entering upon Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah, similar to this, and Sa'd had no doubts about it." Abu Sa'id ibn Abi 'Amr narrated to us, from Abu Al-Abbas Al-Asamm, from As-Saghani, from Muhammad bin Abdillah bin Abi Ash-Shawarib, from Ja'far bin Sulayman, who mentioned it.
40.73 [Machine] What was mentioned in the scattering in joy?
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited plundering and mutilating.
[Machine] A skilled boy from the writers, so Abu Mas'ud commanded and bought for his boys a canary with a dirham, but he disliked the looters.
“the letters k, f, r” (are on his forehead). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4317)
[Machine] "And Muhammad said, 'I have encountered righteous men who, when they are presented with musk, they reject it and dislike to scatter it.'"
Note: The translation is approximate, as the word "مُسَكَّرِ" can have different interpretations depending on the context.
[Machine] I was walking between Ibrahim and Al-Sha'bi, and they mentioned the sacrificial offering of a wedding. Ibrahim disliked it, but Al-Sha'bi did not dislike it. He said, "And I, Shu'bah, from Husein, from Ikrimah, that he disliked it. And it has been narrated in the permission (authorization) regarding it, narrations all of which are weak."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married some of his wives, and he was given dates by Al-Hasan bin 'Amr. He was the son of Saif Al-'Abdi and he was a Basri man who had strange qualities.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to scatter dates as a form of giving away when he would marry someone or someone would get married. Asim bin Sulayman Basri, who was known for spreading lies, falsely attributed it to the Prophet's saying.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ informed a man from his companions about the blessings of intimacy, secure travel, and abundance in sustenance. He said, "May Allah bless you, tap on his head." So, they brought a tambourine and placed dishes filled with fruits and sweets upon it. The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Play." The man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, haven't you forbidden us from using tambourines?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "I only forbade you from using tambourines at the time of warriors. As for weddings, it is allowed." The Prophet ﷺ then swayed to the rhythm of the tambourine, and they swayed with him. In the chain of narrators, there are missing names and disruptions, and it has also been narrated with an unidentified chain of narrators from Uroah from Aisha, from Muadh bin Jabal. Nothing can be established in this matter, and Allah knows best.
The Prophet ﷺ said: The greatest day in Allah's sight is the day of sacrifice and next the day of resting which Isa said on the authority of Thawr is the second day. Five or six sacrificial camels were brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they began to draw near to see which he would sacrifice first. When they fell down dead, he said something in a low voice, which I could not catch. So I asked: What did he say? He was told that he had said: Anyone who wants can cut off a piece. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1765)
40.74 [Machine] What is recommended in showing the marriage and allowing beating with a tambourine on it, and what is not disapproved of in speech.
[Machine] "From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: Announce the marriage. Abdullah bin Al-Aswad proposed to Aamir."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "Did you have amusement with you, for the Ansar love amusement?"
The Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) came and visited me in the morning when I had been conducted to my husband, and sat on my bedding as you are sitting beside me. Some little girls of ours began to play the tambourine and eulogise those of my ancestors who were killed in the battle of Badr, and then one of them said: And among us is a Prophet who knows what will happen tomorrow. He said : Stop this and say what you were saying. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4922)
[Machine] When a woman or a man got married, the female slaves of the Ansar would come out, singing and playing. They said, "Pass by a gathering where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is present and we are singing and playing, and she would urge her husband to give her a ram to slaughter while they are in the Mihrab and her husband is in the mosque, knowing what will happen tomorrow." Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ came to them and said, "Glory be to Allah, no one knows what will happen tomorrow except Allah. Do not say such things, but say 'we have come to you, we have come to you.' Greet us and we will greet you. This is a good Messenger."
[Machine] The wife of the Prophet ﷺ narrated that the Prophet ﷺ heard people singing at a wedding, and they were saying, "And her husband gifted her a slaughtered ram to be cooked, and your love is in the gathering, and he knows what will happen tomorrow." Or he ﷺ said, "Yahya said, 'And your husband is in the gathering, and he knows what will happen tomorrow.'" She said to him, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No one knows what will happen tomorrow except Allah, the Exalted." And this is not found in the narration of Abu Abdullah. Or he ﷺ said, "Yahya said, 'And your husband is in the gathering.'"
'Aisha arranged a marriage for a female relative of hers among the Ansar. The Messenger of Allah came and said: Have you taken the girl (to her husbands house)?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “Have you sent someone with her to sing?” She said: “No.” The Messenger of Allah said: “The Ansar are People with romantic feelings. Why don't you send someone with her to say: 'We have come to you, we have come to you, may Allah bless you and us?'” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1900)

[Machine] Abdul Malik came to me with his slave girls, hitting the tambourine and singing. So I said, "Do you allow such things while you are the companions of Muhammad ﷺ ?" They said, "He has permitted us to perform at weddings and mourn at the time of calamities." Shirik reported it with the same meaning and mentioned Qarzah and Abu Mas'ood. However, he said, "Except for weeping at the time of calamities." Shirik said, "I saw him saying this statement." He said, "Except for weeping, not wailing."
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ : "There is a separation between what is permissible and what is forbidden, which is the sound and beating of the drums during marriage." And Abu Abdul Rahman As-Sulami informed us, narrating from Abu Al-Hasan Al-Karizi, narrating from Ali Ibn Abdul Aziz, from Abu Ubaid, from Hushaym, that this was mentioned to him, except that he (the Prophet) said: "And the beating of drums during marriage." Abu Ubaid said: "Some people have claimed that the drum is a language, and the narration is with a fatha (vowel marking of "a" sound), and as for the saying 'the sound,' some people interpret it as referring to listening, and this is incorrect. As for its meaning according to us, it is the announcement of marriage and the disturbance caused by the sound and mentioning among the people. And for this reason, Umar said..."
[Machine] "O Amir al-Mu'minin, there was a matter that was less significant and I testified against him regarding it. Then Umar pushed the punishment away from the person who threw it and said, 'Protect the chastity of these women and announce this marriage, and he forbade mut'a (temporary marriage)."
[Machine] What is this? If they say a wedding or circumcision, he remained silent.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Make marriage public and announce it openly. Celebrate it with the beating of drums." He said this, and it is said that he was Khalid ibn Elias, a weak narrator.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Announce this marriage and hold it in the mosques, and strike it with drums. Let one of you must offer something, even if it is a sheep. And when one of you intends to propose to a woman who has adorned herself with black, let him inform her and not deceive her, for Isa bin Maymun is weak."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by Bani Zuraiq and heard singing and playing. He asked, "What is this?" They replied, "It is the wedding of so-and-so, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "This wedding is complete, not adulterous nor secretive, until a drum is heard or smoke is seen." Husayn narrated that 'Amr ibn Yahya al-Mazini said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked secret marriages until they are announced with a drum." Husayn ibn 'Abdullah is weak in hadith narration.
40.75 [Machine] Marriage and Building with Women in Shawwal
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married me in Shawwal and I was brought to him in Shawwal. Which of the women was more beloved to him than me? And she preferred to have her wives brought to her in Shawwal.
40.76 [Machine] The departure of women and boys at the wedding.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ saw women and children who came from a wedding. The Prophet ﷺ approached them, taking their same position and said, "O Allah, indeed, they are from the dearest people to me."
