40. Chapter (6/7)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw Bashir ibn Raa'i Al-'Iri eating with his left hand. He said, "Eat with your right hand." He replied, "I cannot." He said, "Then you can." In another narration by As-Sulami, his right hand did not reach his mouth. And he said, "Busr" with a kasrah on the letter ba' and a seen without any vowel mark. The correct version is "Bashir" with a fatha on the letter ba' and a shaddah on the letter seen. Ibn Manda and others among the scholars mentioned it in this way, and Allah knows best.
40.49 [Machine] Food from following.
[Machine] I was in the room of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and my hand was inadvertently hitting the tray. He said, "O young boy, say Bismillah (In the name of Allah) and eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you."
40.50 [Machine] Food from the sides of the plate without its center
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was given a bowl of porridge, and he said, "Eat from its sides and do not eat from its middle, for the blessings descend in its middle."
40.51 [Machine] Eating with three fingers and licking them
Ibn Ka'b b. Malik reported on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to eat (food) with three fingers and he licked his hand before wiping it (with towel). (Using translation from Muslim 2032b)
When one of you eats, he must not wipe his hand with a handkerchief till he licks it or gives it to someone to lick. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3847)
[Machine] The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you eats food, let him not wipe his hand until he licks it or someone else licks it."
40.52 [Machine] Lifting the morsel if it falls, emptying the cup, and wiping with a handkerchief after licking.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If a morsel of food falls from one of you, let him remove any harm that may have touched it, and then eat it. Do not leave it for the devil, and do not wipe your hand on a cloth until you lick it or let a dog lick it, because he does not know in which of his meals the blessing lies."
If the morsel of one of you falls down, he should wipe away anything injurious on it and eat it and not leave it for the devil. And he ordered us to clean the dish, for one of you does not leave it for the devil. And he ordered us to clean the dish, for one of you does not know in what part of his food the blessing lies. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3845)
40.53 [Machine] The following heading translates to: "He who does not sit down with him to eat, does not receive anything from what is offered to him, because he is only invited to eat, not to give.
[Machine] Salman made food and invited some of his companions, so a person came and took some food. Salman said, "Give, you were only invited to eat." The man felt ashamed, so when he finished, Salman said, "Perhaps I have burdened you with what I said to you." The man replied, "By Allah, you have not burdened me." Salman asked, "And what was the purpose for your coming, that the reward be for me and the sin be upon you?"
40.54 [Machine] Who brought something that was brought to him to sit with him?
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ invited a man, so I went with him. They brought a dish that had a lizard in it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to eat from that lizard and liked it. Anas said: "When I saw that, I started to throw it towards him and not feed him." The wording of the hadith is for Abu Usamah.
40.55 [Machine] What food did the Prophet ﷺ ever dislike?
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never criticized any food. If he desired it, he would eat it, and if he disliked it, he would leave it. And in the narration of Waki', he would leave it behind.
40.56 [Machine] He does not hesitate to eat what Allah has allowed
A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: Is there any food from which I should keep myself away? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Anything which creates doubt should not occur in your mind by which you resemble Christianity. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3784)
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, my father used to maintain ties of kinship and do good deeds, but he died during the time of Jahiliyyah (ignorance). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Your father intended something, and he achieved it," meaning mentioning Allah. I said, "I want to ask you about a type of food that I do not leave except out of shyness." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not be shy of anything that brings forth benefit or prevents harm." I said, "I send my dog to catch game, and I do not slaughter for it except a Marwah tree branch and a wooden staff." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Order your dog with whatever you want and mention the name of Allah."
40.57 [Machine] Doesn't despise what is presented to him
[Machine] A group of the companions of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , entered upon Jabir ibn Abdullah. So he brought them bread and date spread and said, "Eat, for I have heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , saying, 'The best food is date spread. It is a destruction for a man if his fellow brothers come to his house and he belittles what is in his home by not offering it to them, and it is a destruction for a people if they belittle what is offered to them.'"
40.58 [Machine] How to eat meat?
[Machine] Safwan ibn Umayyah said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw me holding the meat with my hand close to the bone, so he said to me, 'O Safwan, bring the meat closer to you, as it is more delicious and wholesome.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not cut meat with a knife, as that is the way of non-Arabs, but rather slice it, as it is easier and more pleasant." Abu al-Hasan Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Alawi informed us that I am Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Ayyub, narrated to us Muhammad ibn Yazid al-Sulami, narrated to us Hassan ibn Hassan al-Basri, narrated to us Abu Ma'shar, narrated to us Hisham, narrating this.
[Machine] He informed him that he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sharpening a knife with a sheep's shoulder in his hand. Then he was called to prayer, so he threw it and the knife that he was sharpening with, then he stood and prayed without performing ablution.

[Machine] "When she sneezed, she would cover it with something until her sneeze disappeared, then she would say, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying that it is the greatest blessing.'"
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ once brought some hot food and said, "I have not eaten hot food since such and such a time before this day." If this is correct, it may imply the first meaning and it may imply another meaning.
[Machine] He used to say, "Food should not be eaten until its steam goes away."
[Machine] I was with Abu Dhar in Iliya, sitting, when a boiling vessel was brought and placed in front of him. He said, "Leave it until some of its heat goes away."
40.60 [Machine] What is disliked in the recitation of the Qur'an between two dates before seeking permission from its owners
At the time of Ibn Az-Zubair, we were struck with famine, and he provided us with dates for our food. ʿAbdullah bin ʿUmar used to pass by us while we were eating, and say, "Do not eat two dates together at a time, for the Prophet ﷺ forbade the taking of two dates together at a time (in a gathering)." Ibn ʿUmar used to add, "Unless one takes the permission of one's companions." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5446)

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was brought an old date, and he began to inspect it, removing the worms from it. 14635 He said, "I, Abu Dawood, was informed by Muhammad ibn Kathir, who was informed by Hammam, who was informed by Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talha, that the Prophet ﷺ used to be given dates with worms in them, and he mentioned their removal. It was also narrated by Ibn Umar from the Prophet ﷺ regarding the prohibition of cracking open a date and what is inside it, and if it is true, it is similar to what is intended. Allah knows best whether the date is fresh or not, and what we have narrated specifically mentions an old date."
[Machine] To put the date seed with the dates on the plate, and this is attributed to Anas.
40.62 [Machine] What is the combination of two colors in food?

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to eat melon with fresh dates, and he used to say: The heat of the one is broken by the coolness of the other, and the coolness of the one by the heat of the other. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3836)
40.63 [Machine] What is mentioned in regards to food and drink?
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ prohibited drinking while standing. Qatadah said, 'What about eating?' He replied, 'That is even more detestable and filthier, as it is not mentioned in Afnan's narration.'"
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ forbade drinking while standing.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "None of you should drink while standing. Whoever drinks while standing, should vomit."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If the one who drinks while standing knew what is in his stomach, he would vomit it out like this, he would come out fully connected."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If the one who drinks while standing knew what is in his stomach, he would vomit it out." He ﷺ said, "I am narrating this from Al-A'mash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Huraira, from the Prophet ﷺ , similar to the narration of Al-Zuhri." He ﷺ said, "This reached Ali, so he called for water and drank it while standing." The sheikh said, "And this is the prohibition that we have mentioned in the narrations. It can either be a prohibition of detesting or a prohibition of forbidding, then it became abrogated."

I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing exactly what you saw me doing, and then he touched his face, hands, and feet. Then he said, 'This is ablution for the one who does not do anything that nullifies it.'"

So he said to his family, "Prepare this sheep and look at this bread, crumble it and pour it on top." The Prophet, ﷺ , had a dish called "Al-Gharaa" that was carried by four men. When they woke up and performed the Duha prayer, that dish was brought to them and they all gathered around it. When they became numerous, the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , kneeled and an Arab man asked, "What is this?" referring to the gathering. He said, "Indeed, Allah made me an honorable servant and did not make me a tyrant or disobedient. Eat from its sides and leave its middle, as blessings are in it." Then he said, "Take and eat. By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, Persia and Rome will be opened to you until food becomes abundant, and the name of Allah shall not be mentioned over it."

Messenger of Allah ﷺ and one of his companions entered upon an Ansari man and the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "If you have water kept overnight in a water skin, (give us), otherwise we will drink water by putting our mouth in it." So he took them both there and poured water into a bowl and milked a domestic goat of his in it. Messenger of Allah ﷺ drank, and then the man who had come along with him, drank.
