While I was praying with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man in the company sneezed. I said: Allah have mercy on you! The people stared at me with disapproving looks, so I said: Woe be upon me, why is it that you stare at me? They began to strike their hands on their thighs, and when I saw them urging me to observe silence (I became angry) but I said nothing. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said the prayer (and I declare that neither before him nor after him have I seen a leader who gave better instruction than he for whom I would give my father and mother as ransom). I swear that he did not scold, beat or revile me but said: Talking to persons is not fitting during the prayer, for it consists of glorifying Allah, declaring his Greatness. and recitation of the Qur'an or words to that effect. I said: Messenger of Allah. I was till recently a pagan, but Allah has brought Islam to us; among us there are men who have recourse to Kahins. He said, Do not have recourse to them. I said. There are men who take omens. That is something which they find in their breasts, but let it not turn their way (from freedom of action). I said: Among us there are men who draw lines. He said: There was a prophet who drew lines, so if they do it as they did, that is allowable. I had a maid-servant who tended goats by the side of Uhud and Jawwaniya. One day I happened to pass that way and found that a wolf had carried a goat from her flock. I am after all a man from the posterity of Adam. I felt sorry as they (human beings) feel sorry. So I slapped her. I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and felt (this act of mine) as something grievous I said: Messenger of Allah, should I not grant her freedom? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Bring her to me. So I brought her to him. He said to her: Where is Allah? She said: He is in the heaven. He said: Who am I? She said: Thou art the Messenger of Allah. He said: Grant her freedom, she is a believing woman. (Using translation from Muslim 537a)

13.78 [Machine] Ibn Malik's Complaint
[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, I have lost my sight, and the rivers block my way to my mosque. I wish you had come and prayed in my house, a place I could make a mosque." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I will do so, God willing." He then passed by Abu Bakr and followed him until they reached my house. He asked for permission to enter, and I granted it. He asked me, while I was standing, where I wanted to pray. I pointed to the spot where I desired, and he said, "Then I will confine you in a room that we have prepared for you." The people of the neighborhood, meaning the people of Dar, heard and rushed to him until the house was filled. A man asked, "Where is Malik ibn Dukhshun?" Perhaps he said Malik ibn Dukhayshin. Another man said, "That is a hypocrite who does not love Allah or His Messenger." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not say that. He says 'There is no deity but Allah' to seek the face of Allah." The man said, "But we see his face and hear his speech for the hypocrites." The Prophet ﷺ said again, "Do not say that. He says 'There is no deity but Allah' to seek the face of Allah." The man said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ said, "A servant who says 'There is no deity but Allah' to seek the face of Allah will not be in Hell." Mahmoud said, "So I narrated this Hadith to a group of them, including Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari. He said, 'I do not think the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said what you said.' I said, 'If I return to Atban, I will ask him.' So I went back to him and found that he was an elderly man who had lost his sight, but he was the leader of his people. I sat next to him and asked him about this Hadith, and he narrated it to me as he did the first time. Ma'mar said, 'And then the obligations and matters were revealed, and we believe that the matter has reached its conclusion. Whoever can prevent himself from being deceived, let him not be deceived."

[Machine] Narrated: There was a certain individual in Basra who possessed something, so I sent a message to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Surely, I would like for you to come to my home and pray in it, so I can turn it into a prayer place. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then approached, along with whoever among his companions he wished, and he prayed in that individual's home. They conversed and mentioned the hypocrites and the harm they cause, attributing that to Malik bin Dukhshin. They wished that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would invoke against him, so if he were to come to any harm, they said the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had declared: Does he not bear witness that there is no god except Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah? They replied: O Messenger of Allah, he does say that but it is not in his heart. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said: No one should bear witness that there is no god except Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah, for if he does while it is not in his heart, then he will be fed to the Fire or be touched by the Fire.

[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him, and he mentioned something similar. He said, "I kept it on a pig that we made for him." So the people of the valley, meaning the people of the house, heard about it and rushed to him until the house was filled. A man asked, "Where is Malik ibn al-Dukhshan?" He said, "Perhaps he said al-Dukhayshin."

[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ performed the Duha prayer in his house, so they stood behind him and prayed with his prayer.

13.79 [Machine] Asim bin Adi
It was narrated from Abu Baddah bin ‘Asim, from his father, that the Prophet ﷺ granted permission for some shepherds to stone one day and to not stone (the next) day. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3036)
On the authority of his father 'Asim: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave permission to the herdsmen of the camels not to pass night at Mina and asked them to throw pebbles on the day of sacrifice, and to throw pebbles at the jamrahs the next day and the following two days, and on the day of their return. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1975)
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted permission to some camel herders regarding staying (in Mina),* and allowing them to stone the Pillars on the Day of Sacrifice, then to combine the stoning of two days after the sacrifice, so that they could do it on one of the two days.”** Malik said: “I think that he said: ‘On the first of the first of the two days, then they could stone them on the day of departure (from Mina).’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3037)
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ instructed the shepherds to take turns throwing stones on the day of sacrifice. They would then rest for a day and a night, and then resume throwing stones the next day.

[Machine] "Abu Dawud al-Mazini, who witnessed the Battle of Badr, said: I followed a disbeliever man to strike him, but his head fell before my sword reached him, and I realized that someone else had killed him."
13.81 [Machine] Abdullah bin Salam (Note: This is a person's name and does not require translation)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ told us that there is an hour during Friday. He mentioned the hadith, and I said, "I swear by Allah, if I come to Abu Sa'eed and ask him, he would mention the hadith." So I left him and went to Abdullah bin Salam and asked him about it. He said, "Allah created Adam on Friday, descended him to the Earth on Friday, took him back on Friday, and the Hour will occur on Friday. it's the last hour." Suraj said, "It is his last hour." I said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said about prayer that it is not an hour of prayer." He said, "Did you not know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The one waiting for prayer is in prayer?'" I said, "Yes." He said, "That is indeed it, by Allah."

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, we find in the Book of Allah, on the day of Friday, an hour where no Muslim servant is praying and asks Allah for something except that Allah grants him what he asked for." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ pointed and said, "Some of the scholars said it is during the last hour of the day." So I said, "The Messenger of Allah spoke the truth." Abu An-Nadr said, "Abu Salamah asked him, 'Which hour is it?' He replied, 'It is the last hour of the day.' So I said, 'It is not a prayer hour.' He said, 'Yes, indeed. The Muslim servant, after he has prayed and then sits in his place of prayer, nothing prevents him except waiting for the prayer.'"

[Machine] While we were walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , we heard people asking him, "Which deeds are the best, O Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Believing in Allah and His Messenger, struggling in the cause of Allah, performing an accepted Hajj." Then he heard a call in the valley saying, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I bear witness and testify that no one can bear witness to this except those who are free from association with Allah." Abdullah said, "I also heard this from Harun."

[Machine] Abdullah is the last hour of Friday. Abu Hurairah asked, "How can it be the last hour of Friday?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No Muslim who prays will encounter it, and that is an hour in which no prayer is offered." Abdullah bin Salam said, "Did not the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever sits in a gathering waiting for the prayer, then he is in prayer until he prays?" So I said, "Yes." He said, "That is it."

[Machine] In his statement, he said that Ka'b is lying, just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said every Friday. I said, "Indeed, he has returned." He said, "By the one in whose hand is the soul of Abdullah bin Salam, I know that hour." I said, "O Abdullah, then tell me about it." He said, "It is the last hour of the day of Friday." I said, "He said that it does not coincide with a believer while he is praying." He said, "Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever is waiting for a prayer is in a state of prayer until he prays'? I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'That's how it is."

I was in the company of some persons, amongst whom some were the Companions of Allah's Apostle ﷺ in Medina, that there came a person whose face depicted the fear (of Allah). Some people said: He is a person from amongst the people of Paradise; he is a person from amongst the people of Paradise. He observed two short rak'ahs of prayer and then went out. I followed him and he got into his house and I also got in and we began to converse with each other. And when he became familiar (with me) I said to Him: When you entered (the mosque) before (your entrance in the house) a person said so and so (that you are amongst the people of Paradise), whereupon he said: It is not meet for anyone to say anything which he does not know. I shall (now) tell you why they (say) this. I saw a dream during the lifetime of Messenger of Allah ﷺ and narrated it to him. I seemed to be in a garden [he described its vastness, its rich fructification and its verdure]; in the midst of it, there stood an iron pillar, with its base in the earth and its summit in the sky: and upon its summit there was a handhold. It was said to me: Climb up this (pillar). I said to him (visitant in the dream): I am unable to do it. Thereupon a helper came to me, and he (supported) me (by catching hold of my) garment from behind and thus helped me with his hand and so I climbed up till I was at the summit of the pillar, and grasped the handhold. It was said to me: Ho d it tightly. It was at this that I woke up when (the handhold) was in fthe grip) of my hand. I narrated it (the dream) to Allah's Apostle ﷺ, whereupon he said: That garden implies al-Islam and that pillar implies the pillar of Islam. And that handhold is the firmest faith (as refered to in the Qur'an). And you will remain attached to Islam until you shall die. And that man was 'Abdullah b. Salim. (Using translation from Muslim 2484a)

[Machine] We were sitting together and asked each other, "Which one of us will go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ask him which deeds are most beloved to Allah?" We agreed that one of us would go, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a man to us. He came to us individually and then gathered us together. Some of us started pointing at each other. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then recited to us the verse from Surah Ghafir, "Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High" until the verse "Has become great hatred from Allah." (Quran 40:35) He recited it from the beginning to the end. He then recited it to us again, but this time Ibn Salam recited it from the beginning to the end. Then Ata ibn Yasar recited it from the beginning to the end, followed by Hilal, who also recited it from the beginning to the end. Al-Awza'i then recited it to us again, this time reciting it from the beginning to the end.

“I came to Al-Madinah and sat with some old men in the mosque of the Prophet ﷺ. Then an old man came, leaning on his stick, and the people said: ‘Whoever would like to look at a man from among the people of Paradise, let him look at this man.’ He stood behind a pillar and prayed two Rak’ah. I got up and went to him, and said to him: ‘Some of the people said such and such.’ He said: ‘Praise is to Allah. Paradise belongs to Allah and He admits whomsoever He wills to it. At the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ I saw a dream in which a man came to me and said: “Let’s go.” So I went with him and he took me along a great road. A road was shown to me on the left and I wanted to follow it, but he said: “You are not one of its people.” Then a road was shown to me on the right, and I followed him until I reached a slippery mountain. He took me by the hand and helped me up. When I reached the top I could not stand firm. There was an iron pillar there with a golden ring at the top. He took my hand and helped me up until I reached the handhold, then he said: “Have you gotten a firm hold?” I said: “Yes.” Then he struck the pillar with his foot and I held tight to the pillar. I told this to the Prophet ﷺ and he said: "You have seen something good. The great road is the plain of gathering (on the Day of Resurrection). The road that you were shown on your left is the way of the people of Hell, and you are not one of its people. The road which you were shown on your right is the way of the people of Paradise. The slippery mountain is the place of the martyrs, and the handhold that you held on tight to is the handhold of Islam. Hold on tight to it until you die." I hope to be one of the people of Paradise,' and he was 'Abdullah bin Salam." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3920)

[Machine] "And I narrated to him from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until we came to the mention of Friday. So, I told him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Verily, there is an hour on Friday, no Muslim asks Allah for any good during it except that He gives it to him.' Ka'ab said: 'May Allah and His Messenger testify to the truth, it is once every year.' I said: 'No.' Ka'ab looked at me at that moment and said: 'May Allah and His Messenger testify to the truth, it is once every month.' I said: 'No.' Then, he looked at me a moment and said: 'May Allah and His Messenger testify to the truth, it is once every Friday.' I said: 'Yes.' Ka'ab said: 'Do you know which hour it is?' I said: 'Which hour is it?' He said: 'It is the time when Allah created Adam and when the Hour will be established. The creations are terrified during it, except for the Jinn and humans, out of fear of the Resurrection.' Then, I hastened to reach Madinah and informed Abdullah bin Salam about Ka'ab's statement. He said: 'Ka'ab has lied.' I said: 'Verily, he returned to my statement.' Abdullah bin Salam said: 'Do you know which hour it is?' I said: 'No.' I kept asking him, 'Inform me, inform me.' He said: 'It is between `Asr and Maghrib.' I said: 'How so, when there is no prayer during that time?' He said: 'Did you not hear the Prophet ﷺ say: 'The servant is in prayer as long as he is waiting for the prayer in his place of prayer?''

13.82 [Machine] My father Al-Tufayl Amer bin Waathila
[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , returned from the Battle of Tabuk, a caller ordered and announced that the Messenger of Allah had taken control of the Aqaba pass and that no one should take it. While the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , was leading them, Hudhayfah was driving and 'Ammar was accompanying them. Suddenly, a group of masked men appeared on the coasts and attacked 'Ammar while he was driving the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ . 'Ammar fought back and struck the faces of the attackers. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said to Hudhayfah, "Go and see who they are." Hudhayfah replied that he recognized most of them and that they were masked. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , asked, "Do you know what they wanted?" Hudhayfah replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "They wanted to rid themselves of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and throw him off the cliff." 'Ammar then asked one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and said, "I swear by Allah, how many companions were there at the Aqaba pass?" The companion replied, "Fourteen." 'Ammar said, "If you were among them, then there were fifteen." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , pardoned three of them. They said, "By Allah, we did not hear the caller of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and we did not know what the people intended." 'Ammar testified that the remaining twelve were fighters for the cause of Allah and His Messenger in this worldly life and on the Day of Judgment. Al-Walid (the narrator) mentioned that Abu Tufayl mentioned that during that battle, the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , ordered the people not to approach the water before him. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , called out and announced that no one should drink the water before him. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , arrived at the water and found a group of people who had already drunk from it before him. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , cursed them on that day.

[Machine] I went to Abu Tufayl and found him in good spirits. So, I said to myself, "I should take advantage of this opportunity." Then I said to him, "O Abu Tufayl, who are the people that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cursed among them?" He understood that I wanted him to tell me about them. So, a black woman said to him, "O Abu Tufayl, haven't you heard that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, I am only a human being. So, whenever I supplicate against any believing servant, make it a means of purification and mercy for him."
[Machine] When the house was being built, people used to carry stones and the Prophet ﷺ would also carry them. He took a piece of cloth and put it on his shoulder. Then, someone called out, "Do not expose your private parts!" So, he dropped the stone and put on his garment. ﷺ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no prophethood after me, except for good tidings." He was asked, "What are the good tidings, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Good dreams or righteous visions."
[Machine] I heard Abu al-Tufayl being asked, "Have you seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" He said, "Yes." They asked, "Did you speak to him?" He said, "No, but I saw him in such and such place, accompanied by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and some of his companions, until he reached the house of Qawra'. He said, 'Open this door.' So, the door was opened, and the Prophet ﷺ entered, and I entered with him. Then, there was a mat in the middle of the house. He said, 'Lift this mat.' So, they lifted the mat, and there was a blind boy under it. He said, 'Stand up, O boy.' So, the boy stood up. He said, 'O boy, do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?' The boy said, 'Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?' The boy said, 'Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Seek refuge in Allah from the evil of this (boy) twice.'"
[Machine] No one remained who saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except me. He said, "And did you see him?" I said, "Yes." He said, "How was his description?" I said, "He was white, handsome, and had a broad forehead."
“I heard Abu Tufail, ‘Amir bin Wathilah, say: ‘I saw the Prophet ﷺ performing Tawaf on his camel, touching the corner with his staff and kissing the staff.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2949)
[Machine] I, Abu Al-Tufail, lived for eight years of the life of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and I was born in the year of Uhud.
[Machine] Abu Tufayl mentioned the construction of the Kaaba during the pre-Islamic era. He said that the Quraysh destroyed it and began rebuilding it with stones from the valley, which the Quraysh carried on their backs. They lifted it up into the sky twenty cubits high. While the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was carrying stones from Ajyad with Tamimah on his back, Tamimah became too tight and he placed it on his shoulder, revealing his private parts due to the smallness of Tamimah. He was called out, "O Muhammad, cover your private parts!" and after that he was not seen naked.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I saw in a dream as if I was uprooting a land, and it turned back on me with a black sheep and a white sheep. Then Abu Bakr came and he removed one or two sins, both of which were weak, and Allah forgave him. Then Umar came and he removed and it turned into the west, and he filled the basin and quenched the thirst of those who drank from it. And I did not see someone better than Umar in removing sins. So, I concluded that the black sheep represents the Arabs and the white sheep represents the non-Arabs."
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ threw a handful of sand from one stone to another stone.
[Machine] A man passed by a group of people and greeted them, and they responded to his greeting. After he passed them, a man from among them said, "By Allah, I dislike this man for the sake of Allah." The people of the gathering said, "Woe to you! You have said something terrible. By Allah, we will inform him." So, they called him back and informed him of what the man had said. Their messenger found the man and informed him of what had been said. The messenger found their prophet and informed him of what had been said, so the man went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I passed by a gathering of Muslims and greeted them, and they responded to my greeting. When I passed them, a man caught up with me and informed me that so-and-so said, 'By Allah, I dislike this man for the sake of Allah.' So, let me ask him, for what reason does he dislike me?" The Prophet ﷺ called the man and asked him about what he had been informed. The man admitted to saying that and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I did say that to him." The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Why do you dislike him?" The man replied, "He is my neighbor and I know him well. By Allah, I have never seen him pray any prayer except this obligatory prayer that the righteous and the wicked alike pray." The man said, "Ask him, O Messenger of Allah, if he had ever seen me delaying it beyond its time or making any mistakes in its ablution or in its ruku' or sujud." The Prophet ﷺ asked the man about that, and he replied, "No, O Messenger of Allah." The man continued, "By Allah, I have never seen him fasting any month other than this month that the righteous and wicked both fast." The man said, "Ask him, O Messenger of Allah, if he had ever seen me breaking my fast during the day or falling short in fulfilling its rights." The Prophet ﷺ asked the man about that, and he replied, "No, O Messenger of Allah." The man went on, "By Allah, I have never seen him giving anything to a beggar, and I have never seen him spending anything in the cause of Allah except for this charity that the righteous and the wicked alike give." The man said, "Ask him, O Messenger of Allah, if he had ever kept any money from Zakat or ever refrained from giving to someone who asked for it." The Prophet ﷺ asked the man about that, and he replied, "No, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ then said to him, "Get up, for you are better than him."

[Machine] "He informed him that a man during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a group and did not mention Abu Tufayl."
[Machine] A man was born with a son during the time of the Prophet ﷺ. He brought the child to the Prophet ﷺ who took hold of the skin of his forehead and prayed for blessing upon him. A strand of hair grew on his forehead in the shape of an arch, and the boy grew up. When the time of the Khawarij came, he loved them and the strand of hair on his forehead fell off. His father took hold of him, tied him up, and confined him, fearing that he would join them. We went to him, admonished him, and said to him: "Did you not see that the blessings of the Prophet's supplication have fallen from your forehead?" We continued with this until he changed his mind. Allah then returned the strand of hair to his forehead, and he repented.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ sent the daughter of Umm Salamah to me and said, "You are like my son." So I stayed as long as Allah willed, then I went to him and he asked, "What did the servant girl or the neighbor girl do?" I said, "She was with her mother." He said, "Did what I asked you to do happen?" I said, "Yes, she taught me what to say before sleeping." He said, "Recite before sleeping: Say, 'O disbelievers.'" He said, "Then sleep on its ending, for it is a protection from shirk (associating partners with Allah)."

[Machine] Ali asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about a man who plays with his spouse and experiences pre-ejaculation without sexual intercourse. If it were not for the fact that his daughter was present, I would have asked him. So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, a man plays with his spouse and experiences pre-ejaculation without sexual intercourse. What should he do?" He replied, "He should wash his private parts and perform ablution for prayer."

[Machine] I and two of my companions went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we became extremely hungry. We approached the people, but no one offered us any food. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took us to his house and there were four goats with him. He said to me, "O Miqdad, divide their milk equally between us." So I divided the milk equally between us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was once confined indoors for a whole night, and I kept thinking that perhaps the Prophet ﷺ had received food from some of the Ansar (the Helpers). He ate until he was full and drank until he was satisfied. If I had drunk his share, I would have kept doing so until he got up. But while I was still contemplating this, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered and greeted us in such a way that the awake could hear, but not to wake the sleeper. Then he came to the container, uncovered it, but found nothing. He said, "O Allah, feed those who fed me, give drink to those who gave me to drink, and punish those who deprive me." I seized the knife, then came to the goats and began feeling them one by one. I would not pass my hand over a single udder without finding it swollen with milk. I milked them until the container was full, then brought it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Drink, O Messenger of Allah." He raised his head towards me and asked, "O Miqdad, what is the news?" I said, "Drink first, then I will tell you the news." He drank until he was satisfied, then he passed the container to me and said, "What is the news?" So I informed him. He said, "This is a blessing that has come down from the sky. Why did you not inform me so that we could feed our companions?" I replied, "If the blessing had struck me and you, then I do not care who missed out."

[Machine] Blessed are the eyes that saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . By Allah, if only we had seen what you saw and witnessed what you witnessed! I became angry and said, "The best thing he ever said was... Then he turned to him and said, "What makes a man long for a presence that Allah has kept hidden from him? He does not know what it would be like if he witnessed it!" By Allah, there were people present in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ whom Allah had favored, but they neither responded to him nor believed in him. Do you not praise Allah when He led you out of ignorance, and you had no knowledge of anyone except your Lord, affirming what your Prophet brought to you? You have been spared afflictions by the efforts of others. By Allah, Allah sent the Prophet ﷺ at the most difficult time, in which no prophet had been sent before, in an era of ignorance, when people did not consider any religion better than idol worship. He brought a criterion by which he distinguished between truth and falsehood, and separated a person from his parent or child, to the extent that a man might see his parent or child or brother as a disbeliever, even though Allah had opened his heart to accept faith and he knew that if he died, he would enter Hellfire. His eyes would not cry, knowing that his loved one would be in the Fire, which Allah has described as, "Those who say, 'Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes..." (Quran 25:74).

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think if a man struck me with a sword and cut off my hand, then took refuge from me by a tree and said, 'There is no god but Allah. Should I kill him?" He replied, "No." I repeated this question two or three times, and he answered, "No, unless he is like him (i.e., the attacker) before he said what he said, and you would be like him before you did what you did."
