13. Anonymous of the Companions (14/19)
[Machine] I was one of the sons of Asawira Fares, so he mentioned the story saying, "I set out and one land would elevate me and another would lower me until I passed by a group of Arabs who enslaved me. They sold me until a woman bought me. I heard them mentioning the Prophet ﷺ, and life was valuable. So I said to her, 'Give me a day.' She said yes, so I set out and gathered firewood and sold it. Then I made food and brought it to the Prophet ﷺ and placed it in front of him. He said, 'What is this?' I said, 'It is charity.' He told his companions, 'Eat,' but he himself did not eat. I said, 'This is one of his signs.' Then I stayed as long as Allah willed for me to stay. I said to my owners, 'Give me a day.' They said yes, so I set out and gathered firewood and sold it more than before. Then I made food and brought it to him and he was sitting with his companions. I placed it in front of him and he said, 'What is this?' I said, 'It is a gift.' He placed his hand and said to his companions, 'Take it, in the name of Allah.' I stood behind him and he placed his cloak. Then I saw the seal of prophethood, so I said, 'I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah.' He asked, 'What is that?' So I told him about the man and said, 'Will he enter Paradise, O Messenger of Allah, as he told me that you are a prophet?' He replied, 'No one will enter Paradise except a Muslim soul.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, he informed me that you are a prophet. Will he enter Paradise?' He said, 'No one will enter Paradise except a Muslim soul.'

[Machine] "The polytheists indeed claim that this will teach you until it teaches you the defecation. Say, 'If you say so, then indeed it has forbidden us from facing the qiblah or turning away from it or relieving ourselves using our right hand or using less than three stones or cleansing with bones or anything else.'"
Indeed, Allah is shy that the servant stretches out his hands asking him for good and he leaves him empty-handed.
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: "Yazeed is mentioned to me." They said: "It is Ja'far ibn Maymun." Abdullah said: "My father meant Ja'far, the companion of Al-Anmaat."
[Machine] "We were with Salman under a tree, and he took a branch from it and shook it, causing its leaves to fall. He then said, 'Don't you ask me about what I did?' We replied, 'Please tell us.' He said, 'We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ under a tree, and he took a branch from it and shook it, causing its leaves to fall. He then said, 'Don't you ask me about what I did?' We replied, 'Tell us, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Indeed, when a Muslim slave stands up for prayer, his sins fall away from him just as the leaves of this tree fall away.'"
[Machine] I was with Salman al-Farsi and he saw a man who had just performed ablution and wanted to take off his stockings. Salman commanded him to wipe over his stockings and his turban, and to wipe with the tip of his nose. Salman said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping over his stockings and his headscarf."
[Machine] To me, the Prophet ﷺ said: "Do you know what day is Friday?" I said: "It is the day that Allah brought together your fathers." He said: "But I know what day Friday is. If a person does not perform ritual purification well, then comes to Friday prayers and listens attentively until the Imam finishes his sermon, it will be an expiation for him for the sins committed between that Friday and the previous one, as long as he avoids major sins."
"They said to Salman, 'Your Prophet taught you about everything, even defecating?' So Salman said, 'Yes. He prohibited us from facing the Qiblah when defecating and urinating, performing Istinja with the right hand, using less than three stones for Istinja, and using dung or bones for Istinja" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 16)
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "Indeed, Allah created one hundred mercies. From one mercy, the creation shows mercy amongst themselves, and by it, animals show compassion to their offspring. And He has reserved ninety-nine mercies until the Day of Resurrection."
[Machine] Abi offered his sister to Salman, but he refused and married a maid named Buqairah. It was reported to Abu Qurrah that there was something between Salman and Hudhayfah, so he went seeking him. He was informed that he was in a storage area, so he headed towards him with a basket containing a stalk of dates that he had inserted his stick into, placed on his shoulder. Abu Abdallah asked, "What was between you and Hudhayfah?" He replied, "Salman says, 'And man is ever hasty.'" So, they set off until they reached Salman's house. Salman entered the house and greeted with, "Peace be upon you." Then he gave permission, and there was a straw mat placed against a door and at its head were bricks. Then there was a curtain, and he said, "Sit on the bed of your maid that she has prepared for herself." He continued speaking to him. He said, "Hudhayfah used to disclose things that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told him in his anger towards certain people, and I ask about them. I say, 'Hudhayfah knows more about what he says, and I dislike any grievances between people.' So, I went to Hudhayfah, and it was said to him, 'Indeed, Salman does not believe you or disbelieve you in what you say.' Hudhayfah came to me and said, 'O Salman, son of Salman's mother!' I said, 'O Hudhayfah, son of Hudhayfah's mother, you must stop, or else I will write to Umar.' When I mentioned Umar to him, he left me. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'From the offspring of Adam I am, so any believing servant that I curse or revile someone without a valid cause, then make it incumbent upon him (i.e., prayer).'
[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ with food, while I was a slave, so I said, "This is a donation." Then he ordered his companions to eat and he did not eat. Then I came to him with food and said, "This is a gift that I have given to you to honor you with it, for I have seen you do not eat charity." So he ordered his companions to eat, and he ate with them.
[Machine] I had asked for permission from my wife in that matter, and she approved it for me. So, I gathered firewood and I sent it, then I bought that food.
"I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping over the Khimar and Khuff." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 106)
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, then uses his (hair) oil or perfumes himself with the scent of his house, then proceeds (for the Jumua prayer) and does not separate two persons sitting together (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allah has) written for him and then remains silent while the Imam is delivering the Khutba, his sins in-between the present and the last Friday would be forgiven." (Using translation from Bukhārī 883)
[Machine] "Let me invite my companions as I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ inviting them. He said, 'I used to be a man like you until Allah guided me to Islam. If you accept Islam, you will have what we have, and you will be responsible for what we are responsible for. And if you refuse, then pay the jizyah while you are in a state of submission. If you refuse, we will encounter you with force. Surely Allah does not like the treacherous.' He gave them three days to decide. When the fourth day came, people went to them and they surrendered."
[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying: "Whoever performs voluntary prayers or stays awake during the night for the worship of Allah, it is as if he fasted a whole month. And whoever dies while defending the cause of Allah, Allah will grant him the reward of all the prayers, fasting, and charity that he used to do. And he will be protected from the trials of the grave and the greatest terror."
[Machine] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The reward of spending a day and night in the cause of Allah is like the reward of fasting and praying for a month. If a person dies in this state, they will continue to receive the reward of being steadfast until they are resurrected and protected from temptation."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you know what day is Friday?" I said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." Then he said, "Do you know what day is Friday?" I said, "Yes." He said, "I don't know, it is assumed that it was asked four times whether he knew or not." He said, "I said, it is the day in which your father or your grandfather was gathered." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Shouldn't I inform you about Friday? A Muslim man should not perform ablution and walk to the mosque and then listen until the Imam finishes his prayer, except that it will be an expiation for what is between that and the next Friday, as long as he avoids the major sins."
[Machine] "To plant for them five hundred plants, and when they take root, then I am free," he said. So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that to him. He said, "Plant them and make a condition for them. When you want to plant them, give me a signal." He said, "So I gave him a signal." He said, "He came and started planting with his hand, except for one which I planted with my own hand. All of them grew except for the one."
[Machine] To the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Salman said, "Do not make me dislike you, for that would make me leave your religion." The Prophet ﷺ said, "How could you dislike me when Allah has guided us through you?" Salman asked, "Should I dislike the Arabs and thus dislike you?"
"I read in the Tawrah that the blessing for food is in the Wudu' after it. So I mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, telling him what I read in the Tawrah. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The food's blessing is in the Wudu' before it and the Wudu' after it.'" He said: There are narrations on this topic from Anas and Abu Hurairah. (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1846)
[Machine] Salman was visited by a man, so he prayed for him with what he had, and said, "If it weren't for the fact that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us, or if it weren't for the fact that we are prohibited from burdening our companions, we would have burdened ourselves for you."
[Machine] That Salman surrounded a palace among the palaces of Persia and said to his companions, "Let me do what I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do." He praised Allah and said, "Indeed, I am one of you, and Allah has granted me Islam. You have seen the obedience of the Arabs, so if you embrace Islam and migrate to us, you are in our position. What applies to us applies to you. And if you embrace Islam and stay in your lands, you are in the position of the Bedouins. What applies to them applies to you. But if you refuse and choose to pay the jizyah, then you have what the jizyah-paying people have, and upon you is what is upon them." He offered them this for three days, then he said to his companions, "Approach them," and he conquered it.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Guarding (protecting) oneself for a day and a night is better than fasting for a month and praying at night, while fasting without breaking it and praying without resting. And if one dies while guarding, his righteous deeds will continue happening for him until he is resurrected and he will be saved from the punishment of the grave."

[Machine] When I said, "Where is this in relation to me, O Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah, may peace and blessings be upon him, took it and turned it on his tongue and then said, "Take it and give them their full right from it." So, I took it and gave them their full right, which was forty ounces.
[Machine] Salman al-Farisi besieged a palace from the palaces of Persia. His companions said to him, "O Abu Abdullah, should you not negotiate with them?" He replied, "No, I will call them as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to call them." He approached them and spoke to them, saying, "I am a Persian man, and I am one of you. The Arabs obey me. So choose one of the three options: either surrender, pay the jizya tax as you are weak and incapable, or we fight you." They replied, "We will not surrender or pay the jizya tax, but we will fight you." Salman returned to his companions and they asked, "Should you not negotiate with them?" He replied, "No." Then he called them for three days, but they did not accept. So he fought them and opened the palace.

[Machine] We, the people of the Banu Muqarrin, were seven individuals and we had only one servant. One of us slapped her, so the Prophet ﷺ said, "Free her." It was said to him, "They have no other servant except her." He said, "Let them serve themselves, and when they can do without her, then free her."
[Machine] We used to sell wool at the house of Suwaid ibn Muqarrin. One day, a young girl went out to Suwaid and spoke to one of us, insulting him. He slapped her in the face. Suwaid then said, "You have slapped her, but I have seen myself as one of the seven sons of my family. We only have a servant." One of us then mentioned this incident to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he ordered us to free her.
[Machine] Did you find anything except a free face? I have seen myself, and we are the seventh of seven sons of Muqarrin. We have only one servant whom one of us has appointed, and he slapped him. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us that when we return, we should set him free, so we set him free.

[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a jar of wine, and I asked him about it. He forbade me from it, so I broke it.

I was present at fighting along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and when he did not fight at the beginning of the day, he waited till the sun had passed the meridian, the winds blew, and help came down. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2655)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A man insulted another man in front of him, so the insulted man said to him, 'Peace be upon you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Indeed, there is an angel between you who repels every insult you direct towards him.' The insulted man said, 'Rather, you are more deserving of it.' And when he said to him, 'Peace be upon you,' he replied, 'No, rather, you are more deserving of it.'"
[Machine] We arrived to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the time of Muzaynah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us with his command. Some of the people said, "O Messenger of Allah, we don't have any food to supply ourselves with." The Prophet ﷺ said to Umar, "Supply them." Umar said, "I only have a surplus of dates, and it does not suffice for them." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Go and supply them." So he went with us to a garden belonging to him, and there were dates in it like fresh morning leaves. He said, "Take." So the people took what they needed. He said, "And I was the last of the people. I turned around and did not miss a single place where there was a date, and yet it was sufficient for four hundred men."

13.74 [Machine] Jaber bin 'Atik
The Prophet ﷺ said: There is jealousy which Allah loves and jealousy which Allah hates. That which Allah loves is jealousy regarding a matter of doubt, and that which Allah hates is jealousy regarding something which is not doubtful. There is pride which Allah hates and pride which Allah loves. That which Allah loves is a man's pride when fighting and when giving sadaqah and that which Allah hates is pride shown by oppression. The narrator Musa said: "by boasting." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2659)
[Machine] He informed him that his father was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Verily, jealousy has some meanings." And he mentioned its meaning, and he said: "The jealousy that Allah loves is when a man is keen in war and keen in charity, and the jealousy that Allah hates is when a man is keen in rebellion or, he said, in pride."
[Machine] "Do you know where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed from your mosque here?" So I said, "Yes," and I pointed him in a certain direction. He said, "Do you know what are the three things he supplicated for in it?" So I said, "Yes." He said, "Then inform me of them." So I said, "He supplicated that their enemies should not be able to triumph over them besides themselves, and that they should not be destroyed by famine for years, so He granted them that. And he supplicated that their mutual enmity should not cause mutual harm between them. This is what prevented me from giving you information." He said, "You have spoken the truth. The mischief caused by the war will continue until the Day of Resurrection."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, from jealousy there is what Allah loves and from it there is what Allah hates. And from arrogance there is what Allah loves and from it there is what Allah hates. So, the jealousy Allah loves is jealousy in suspicion, and the jealousy Allah hates is jealousy without suspicion. And the arrogance that Allah loves is the servant's confidence in himself for the sake of Allah during battle, and his confidence in giving charity. And the arrogance that Allah hates is arrogance in pride and arrogance, or like the one who said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said...'"

[Machine] I entered with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to visit a deceased person from the Ansar, and his family was crying. So I said, "Are you crying, while this is the Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let them cry as long as they are with them, and when it is obligatory, they should not cry." Jabir said, "So I told this to Umar ibn Abdul Aziz, and he asked me, 'What is obligatory?' I said, 'When he is buried.'"

[Machine] To be a martyr, indeed you have sacrificed your life. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah has decreed its reward according to one's intention. What do you consider martyrdom to be?" They said, "Being killed for the sake of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Martyrdom is seven, other than being killed for the sake of Allah: one who dies due to a plague is a martyr, one who dies drowning is a martyr, one who dies due to a disease in the abdomen is a martyr, one who dies due to a fire is a martyr, one who dies under a collapsing building is a martyr, one who dies as a result of childbirth is a martyr, and a woman who dies while defending her honor is a martyr."
