ahmad:23747Ismāʿīl > al-Ḥajjāj / al-Ṣawwāf > Yaḥyá b. Abū Kathīr > Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm > Ibn Jābir b. ʿAtīk al-Anṣārī from his father

The Prophet ﷺ said: There is jealousy which Allah loves and jealousy which Allah hates. That which Allah loves is jealousy regarding a matter of doubt, and that which Allah hates is jealousy regarding something which is not doubtful. There is pride which Allah hates and pride which Allah loves. That which Allah loves is a man's pride when fighting and when giving sadaqah and that which Allah hates is pride shown by oppression. The narrator Musa said: "by boasting." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2659)

ahmad:23748ʿAbd al-Ṣamad > Ḥarb / Ibn Shaddād > Yaḥyá / Ibn Abū Kathīr > Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm al-Qurashī Ḥaddathanay Ibn Jābir b. ʿAtīk from his father

[Machine] He informed him that his father was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Verily, jealousy has some meanings." And he mentioned its meaning, and he said: "The jealousy that Allah loves is when a man is keen in war and keen in charity, and the jealousy that Allah hates is when a man is keen in rebellion or, he said, in pride."

ahmad:23749ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Mahdī Mālik > ʿAbdullāh Ibn Jābir b. ʿAtīk > Jābir b. ʿAtīk

[Machine] "Do you know where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed from your mosque here?" So I said, "Yes," and I pointed him in a certain direction. He said, "Do you know what are the three things he supplicated for in it?" So I said, "Yes." He said, "Then inform me of them." So I said, "He supplicated that their enemies should not be able to triumph over them besides themselves, and that they should not be destroyed by famine for years, so He granted them that. And he supplicated that their mutual enmity should not cause mutual harm between them. This is what prevented me from giving you information." He said, "You have spoken the truth. The mischief caused by the war will continue until the Day of Resurrection."

ahmad:23750Ismāʿīl > al-Ḥajjāj b. Abū ʿUthmān > Yaḥyá b. Abū Kathīr > Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm > Ibn Jābir b. ʿAtīk from his father

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, from jealousy there is what Allah loves and from it there is what Allah hates. And from arrogance there is what Allah loves and from it there is what Allah hates. So, the jealousy Allah loves is jealousy in suspicion, and the jealousy Allah hates is jealousy without suspicion. And the arrogance that Allah loves is the servant's confidence in himself for the sake of Allah during battle, and his confidence in giving charity. And the arrogance that Allah hates is arrogance in pride and arrogance, or like the one who said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said...'"

ahmad:23751Abū Nuʿaym > Isrāʾīl > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿĪsá > Jabr b. ʿAtīk > ʿAmmih

[Machine] I entered with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to visit a deceased person from the Ansar, and his family was crying. So I said, "Are you crying, while this is the Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let them cry as long as they are with them, and when it is obligatory, they should not cry." Jabir said, "So I told this to Umar ibn Abdul Aziz, and he asked me, 'What is obligatory?' I said, 'When he is buried.'"

[Machine] To be a martyr, indeed you have sacrificed your life. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah has decreed its reward according to one's intention. What do you consider martyrdom to be?" They said, "Being killed for the sake of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Martyrdom is seven, other than being killed for the sake of Allah: one who dies due to a plague is a martyr, one who dies drowning is a martyr, one who dies due to a disease in the abdomen is a martyr, one who dies due to a fire is a martyr, one who dies under a collapsing building is a martyr, one who dies as a result of childbirth is a martyr, and a woman who dies while defending her honor is a martyr."
