0. Introduction (9/14)
[Machine] "No servant increases in knowledge of Allah except that people get closer to the mercy of Allah because of him."
[Machine] And he said in another narration, "A servant does not gain knowledge except that he gains determination, and Allah does not bestow upon a servant a gift better than serenity."
[Machine] I heard Wahb ibn Munabbih say, "O my son, seek wisdom for indeed all goodness is in wisdom. It elevates the small over the great, the slave over the free, and it increases a leader's strength, while it enables the poor to sit in the company of kings."
[Machine] "And what would we be without the words of the scholars?"
0.35 [Machine] Avoiding People of Desires, Innovations, and Disputes
[Machine] Abu Qilabah said, "Do not associate with the people of desires (those who follow their own whims and desires) and do not argue with them, for I fear that they may lead you astray and confuse you with what you already know."
[Machine] I have not seen you. Did you sit with Talq ibn Habib? Do not sit with him.
[Machine] "He has made a new thing, so if he has made a new thing, do not recite the blessings upon him."
[Machine] "Ibrahim did not see any innovation (in religion)."
[Machine] Muslim ibn Yasār used to say, "Beware of disputes, as they are the moments of ignorance of the knowledgeable, and through them, Satan seeks to make you slip."
[Machine] Two men from the followers of whims entered upon Ibn Seerin and said, "O Abu Bakr, shall we narrate a hadith to you?" He replied, "No." They said, "Then shall we recite a verse from the Book of Allah to you?" He replied, "No, so that you may not distort it and have that remain in my heart." Some people among them said, "O Abu Bakr, why was it upon you not to let them recite a verse from the Book of Allah, the Exalted?" He said, "I feared that they would recite a verse upon me and then distort it, and that would remain in my heart."
[Machine] "He turned and pointed with his finger, not even uttering a word." Said pointed to us with his right pinky finger.
[Machine] "Do not sit with the people of disputes, for they are the ones who engage in the signs of Allah."
[Machine] About Al-Hasan and Ibn Seerin, they said: "Do not sit with people of desires, do not argue with them, and do not listen to them."
[Machine] "They are called the followers of desires because they will be slanting towards the fire."
0.36 [Machine] Equity in Science
[Machine] "I have never seen anyone among the people, whether noble or lowly, except for a peacock, on which they all agree."
[Machine] "We used to hate writing knowledge until the Sultan imposed it on us, so we hated to prevent anyone from acquiring it."
[Machine] He talked to him, so he said, "If there was a man from the Zanj, I would have Abdullah bin Muhammad with me on equal terms."
0.37 [Machine] In the honor of the scholars.
[Machine] "I have never feared anyone from the people like I fear Khalid ibn Ma'dan."
[Machine] "We used to fear the authority of Ibrahim, the prince."
[Machine] Does he have a person who told you this or from whom you have heard this? So, he became angry and prevented us from speaking until he left.
[Machine] "If I had befriended Ibn Abbas, I would have gained much knowledge from him."
[Machine] "I have never seen anyone more honorable for knowledge than my father."
0.38 [Machine] In the narration about trustworthy individuals
‘I came across Tāwus and said: ‘So-and-so narrated to me such-and-such’. Then he said: ‘If your companion is trustworthy, then take from him.’ (Using translation from Muslim i020)
‘There is to be no narrating on authority of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah send blessings and peace upon him, except by trustworthy narrators (Thiqāt)’. (Using translation from Muslim i023)
[Machine] Regarding the Isnad (the chain of narrators), then they asked afterwards to know who was the companion of the Sunnah from whom they took, and who was not the companion of the Sunnah from whom they did not take. Abu Muhammad said, "I do not think he heard it from Asim."
[Machine] "Tell me about two men who do not care about whoever takes their conversation," said Abu Muhammad Abdullah. "I don't think he heard it."
[Machine] Ibrahim said, "If you speak to me, then tell me about Abu Zur'ah; he narrated to me a story. Then after that, I asked him about a year, but not a single word was omitted from it."
[Machine] This knowledge is a religion, so let the person consider from whom they take their religion.
[Machine] "They look at him, his prayer, his direction, and his appearance."
[Machine] "They sought knowledge from him, observed his prayer, his direction, and his appearance, and then they took from him."
[Machine] Regarding Hasan, it is similar to the hadith of Ibrahim.
[Machine] From him, we observe when he prays. If he performs it excellently, we sit with him and say, "He performs it better than others." And if he performs it poorly, we stand away from him and say, "He performs it worse than others." Abu Ma'mar said that his statement is like this.
[Machine] "I do not know if I heard it from him or from Ibn 'Awn about Muhammad, 'Indeed, this knowledge is a religion, so be careful who you take your religion from.'"
‘I came across Tāwus and said: ‘So-and-so narrated to me such-and-such’. Then he said: ‘If your companion is trustworthy, then take from him.’ (Using translation from Muslim i020)
[Machine] Do you know my entire conversation and deny it, or do you know this and deny my entire conversation? Ibn Abbas said, "We used to relate from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he was not accused of lying. But when people faced difficulties and humiliation, we stopped narrating from him."
[Machine] "From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , until you bear hardship and humiliation."
[Machine] "That demons appear, which Solomon ﷺ has bound, to teach people about religion."
[Machine] "Consider from whom you take this narration, for it is your religion."
0.39 [Machine] The Explanation of the Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ and the Words of Others When He ﷺ Speaks.
[Machine] "So that the interpretation of the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is based on the same caution as the interpretation of the Quran."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, and so and so said?
[Machine] "There is no opinion for anyone in the Book of Allah. Rather, the only opinion is that of the Imams regarding matters for which there is no book revealed, nor has a sunnah been passed down from the Messenger of Allah. And there is no opinion for anyone in a sunnah established by the Messenger of Allah."
[Machine] "O people, Allah has not sent a prophet after your prophet, nor has He revealed any book after this book that He has sent down upon him. What Allah has made lawful on the tongue of His prophet is lawful until the Day of Resurrection, and what He has made forbidden on the tongue of His prophet is forbidden until the Day of Resurrection. Know that I am not a judge, but rather a conveyor. I am not an innovator, but a follower. I am not better than you except that I bear a heavier burden. Indeed, no one from the creation of Allah should be obeyed in disobeying Allah. Have you heard?"
[Machine] There was a peacock praying two units after Asr prayer, so Ibn Abbas said to him, "Leave them." He said, "It was only forbidden to perform them on a ladder." Ibn Abbas said, "Indeed, prayer after Asr has been forbidden, so I do not know whether you will be punished for it or rewarded, for Allah says, 'It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.'" (Quran 33:36) Sufyan said, "He considers it to be on a ladder, meaning he prays from after Asr until the night."
[Machine] "Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a copy of the Torah, and he said: 'O Messenger of Allah, this is a copy of the Torah.' Then he remained silent and started reading. The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed. Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, said: 'May you be sacrificed for this moment! Why do you not see the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?' So Umar looked at the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'I seek refuge in Allah from the anger of Allah and the anger of His Messenger. We are pleased with Allah as our Lord, Islam as our religion, and Muhammad as our Prophet.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'We are pleased with Allah as our Lord, Islam as our religion, and Muhammad as our Prophet.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'By the One in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, if Moses were to appear to you and you were to follow him and abandon me, you would be led astray from the right path. And if he were alive during my prophethood, he would have followed me.'"
[Machine] From Abu Rabah, a sheikh from the family of Umar, he said: Sa'id bin al-Musayyib saw a man praying two rak'ahs after Asr and making takbir (saying Allah is the greatest). Sa'id said to him, "O Abu Muhammad, does Allah punish me for praying?" He said, "No, but Allah punishes you for going against the sunnah."
