[Machine] The translation of the given Arabic sentence is: "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to deliver sermons while leaning against a trunk, and when he built the pulpit, the trunk longed for him until he came and touched it."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to stand up and extend his standing when he would give a sermon. It was difficult for him to stand for long periods, so a tree trunk was brought for him and a hole was dug for it, and a stand was set up beside it for the Prophet ﷺ to lean on. So, when the Prophet ﷺ would give a sermon, he would lean on it and rest. Once, a man who had just arrived in Medina saw him standing next to that tree trunk, and he said to the people with him, "If I knew that Muhammad praises me for something that I do, I would make him a seat to sit on, and if he wants to, he can sit, and if he wants to, he can stand." When the Prophet ﷺ heard about this, he said, "Bring him to me." They brought the man to him, and he was told to make these three or four platforms, which are now in the pulpit of the mosque in Medina. The Prophet ﷺ found comfort in them. When the Prophet ﷺ left the trunk and turned towards the platforms that were made for him, the trunk moaned and groaned like a camel when it is separated from its young.
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) used to stand near a tree trunk before the pulpit was set up. When the pulpit was finally installed, he missed that tree trunk. We could hear his longing for it. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) then placed his hand on it, and he became calm."
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ used to deliver his sermons to a wooden platform, and when the pulpit was built, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat on it. Hanin al-Ashtar clung to it until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed his hand on her and she became calm."
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray facing the trunk of a date- palm tree when the mosque was still a hut, and he used to deliver the sermon leaning on that trunk. A man from among his Companions said: ‘Would you like us to make you something upon which you can stand on Fridays so that the people will be able to see you and hear your sermon?’ He said: ‘Yes.’ So he made three steps for him, as a pulpit. When they put the pulpit in place, they put it in the place where it stands now. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to stand on the pulpit, he passed by the tree trunk from which he used to deliver the sermon, and when he went beyond the trunk, it moaned and split and cracked. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came down when he heard the voice of the trunk, and rubbed it with his hand until it fell silent. Then he went back to the pulpit and when he prayed, he prayed facing it. When the mosque was knocked down (for renovation) and (the pillars, etc.) were changed, Ubayy bin Ka’b took that trunk and kept it in his house until it became very old and the termites consumed it and it became grains of dust.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1414)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to give sermons on a wooden pulpit. Then a Roman man came to him and said, "I will make a pulpit for you to deliver sermons on." So he made a pulpit for him. When the Prophet ﷺ stood on it to deliver a sermon, the pulpit lamented like a mother camel missing her child. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came down from the pulpit and hugged it, and it then became quiet. He ordered that it be dug up and buried.
[Machine] When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Medina, he leaned his back against a wooden board and started talking to the people. They gathered around him, so the Prophet ﷺ wanted them to hear him well. He said, "Build something for me to stand on." They asked, "O Prophet of Allah, how should we build it?" He said, "Build it like the Arish of Musa (Moses), so they built it for him." Al-Hasan said, "By Allah, the wooden board became honored." Al-Hasan said, "Glory be to Allah, is the seeking of the hearts of the people through hearing?" Abu Muhammad (Imam Malik) means this.
“If I had not embraced it, it would have continued to grieve until the Day of Resurrection.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1415)
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Anas through another chain of transmitters. (Using translation from Muslim 2309b)
[Machine] "The wooden stick that was standing by it softened, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to it, placed his hand on it, and it became calm."
Building of the minbar (pulpit) of the Prophet ﷺ and the grief of the palm tree he used to lean on
that the Prophet ﷺ used to stand on Fridays, leaning his back against the trunk of a palm tree in the mosque, and he would address the people. Once, a Roman came and said, "Shall I not make something for you to sit on, so it would appear as if you are standing?" So, he made a minbar (pulpit) with two steps, and the Prophet ﷺ sat on the third step.
When the Prophet ﷺ sat on that pulpit, the palm tree trunk moaned like a grieving camel, to the extent that the mosque seemed to shake in sorrow ˹longing˺ for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ descended from the pulpit and embraced the trunk, which continued to moan. The Prophet ﷺ consoled it until it became still. Then he said, "By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if I had not embraced it, it would have continued moaning like this until the Day of Resurrection, out of longing for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." Then he ordered that it be removed, and it was buried.
