[Machine] I left Abraham's place and was received by Hammad. He handed me eight questions, so I asked him and he answered four of them and left four unanswered.
[Machine] "About something that I have no knowledge of from the common people."
[Machine] "When something bothered Al-Sha'bi, he would be cautious, while Ibrahim used to say, and say, and say. Abu Asim said, Al-Sha'bi was in a better condition with Ibn Awn than with Ibrahim."
[Machine] There is nothing that I have not asked about, but I dislike making the permissible forbidden or the forbidden permissible.
[Machine] That his brother's knowledge was sufficient for him.
[Machine] I asked the common people, "How do you usually respond when you are asked a question?" They said, "Rely on the expert and stay silent until he returns to the beginning."
[Machine] Indeed, the scholar enters between Allah and His servants, so they should seek a way out for themselves.
[Machine] "By Allah, I have never seen anyone who was harsher on those who defied him than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I have never seen anyone who was harsher on him than Abu Bakr. And indeed, I perceive that Umar was the one who had the greatest fear for them or towards them."
[Machine] Yes, "Follow righteousness and uprightness and do not innovate."
[Machine] "As long as he follows the footsteps, he is on the right path."
[Machine] "That his family should be away from you and from unnecessary indulgence, depth and innovation, and you should stick to the old ways."
[Machine] "That you take your companions with knowledge, for surely one of you does not know when he will be in need of it or when he will be in need of what he possesses. Indeed, you will find people who claim to invite you to the Book of Allah, yet they have abandoned it behind their backs. So, you must seek knowledge, and beware of pretentiousness, affectation, unnecessary show, and delving too deeply into matters. And you must hold fast to the ancient teachings."
[Machine] It is said that a man came to the city and started asking about the similarities of the Quran. Umar was informed and he had prepared a bunch of palm branches for him. He asked the man, "Who are you?" The man replied, "I am Abdullah the dyer." Umar took one of the palm branches and hit him with it saying, "I am Abdullah Umar." He continued hitting him until his head started bleeding. The man said, "O Commander of the Believers, that's enough, what I used to find in my head is now gone."
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited: 'It is He Who has sent down to you (Muhammad) the Book (this Qur'an). In it are Verses that are entirely clear, they are the foundations of the Book, and others not entirely clear. So, as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth), they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah (polytheism and trials), and seeking for its hidden meanings, but none knows its hidden meanings save Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: 'We believe in it; the whole of it (clear and unclear Verses) are from our Lord.' And none receive admonition except men of understanding." (3:7) So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When you see those who follow what is not entirely clear thereof, beware of them.'"
[Machine] "To make lawful for you something that Allah has made forbidden for you, or to make forbidden for you something that Allah has made lawful for you."
[Machine] About some things from the Quran in the armies of the Muslims until he arrived in Egypt, and 'Amr ibn al-As sent it to 'Umar ibn al-Khattab. When the messenger came to him with the book and he read it, he said, "Where is the man?" He said, "He is on the journey." 'Umar said, "I fear that it might have been lost, and you will suffer a severe punishment from me because of it." So he brought it to him, and 'Umar said, "You are a liar." So 'Umar sent for a palm-stick and he beat him with it until he left his back bleeding, then he left him until he recovered. Then he called him to come back, and 'Umar said, "Will you ask for it again?" So 'Umar sent him to Rata'ib from Jarid, and he beat him with it until he left his back bleeding, then he left him until he recovered, then he beat him again until he left his back bleeding. Then 'Umar called him to come back, and he said, "Sabiqh, if you want to kill me, then kill me in an honorable manner. And if you want to treat me, then I swear by Allah that I have already recovered." So 'Umar permitted him to return to his land, and he wrote to Abu Musa al-Ash'ari that no one should sit with him from the Muslims. This intensified on the man, so Abu Musa wrote to 'Umar that his repentance was good. 'Umar wrote back, "Give permission for the people to sit with him."
[Machine] "Oh Abu Al-Mundhir, what do you say about this and that?" He said, "Oh my son, was it you who asked me about this?" He said, "No." He said, "Then postpone it until we find a solution and treat ourselves so we can inform you."
[Machine] "Do you really mean what you say, oh my uncle, like this and like that?" He said, "Oh son of my brother, was this the case?" He said, "No." He said, "Then forgive us until it becomes."
[Machine] "Regarding something for which only the answer to the question asked has been given."
[Machine] It means: "He used to not give a fatwa (religious ruling) regarding matters related to the private area in which there is disagreement."
[Machine] He said, "O people, do not hasten the affliction before its descent, causing you to suffer here and there. If you do not hasten the affliction before its descent, Muslims will continuously have someone among them who, when asked a question, answers correctly." And when he was asked to be successful, he was granted success.
[Machine] About the first of them, thirty poor people every day.
[Machine] "I used to sit with Ibn Umar one day in Makkah and with Ibn Abbas another day. Whatever Ibn Umar would say in response to a question, I do not have knowledge of more than what he would give his verdict on."
[Machine] "Abdullah said, 'Learn, for surely none of you knows when knowledge will be sought from him.'"
