The Prophet ﷺ said, "While three men were walking, It started raining and they took shelter (refuge) in a cave in a mountain. A big rock rolled down from the mountain and closed the mouth of the cave. They said to each other, "Think of good deeds which you did for Allah's sake only, and invoke Allah by giving reference to those deeds so that He may remove this rock from you." One of them said, 'O Allah! I had old parents and small children and I used to graze the sheep for them. On my return to them in the evening, I used to milk (the sheep) and start providing my parents first of all before my children. One day I was delayed and came late at night and found my parents sleeping. I milked (the sheep) as usual and stood by their heads. I hated to wake them up and disliked to give milk to my children before them, although my children were weeping (because of hunger) at my feet till the day dawned. O Allah! If I did this for Your sake only, kindly remove the rock so that we could see the sky through it.' So, Allah removed the rock a little and they saw the sky. The second man said, 'O Allah! I was in love with a cousin of mine like the deepest love a man may have for a woman. I wanted to outrage her chastity but she refused unless I gave her one hundred Dinars. So, I struggled to collect that amount. And when I sat between her legs, she said, 'O Allah's slave! Be afraid of Allah and do not deflower me except rightfully (by marriage).' So, I got up. O Allah! If I did it for Your sake only, please remove the rock.' The rock shifted a little more. Then the third man said, 'O Allah! I employed a laborer for a Faraq of rice and when he finished his job and demanded his right, I presented it to him, but he refused to take it. So, I sowed the rice many time till I gathered cows and their shepherd (from the yield). (Then after some time) He came and said to me, 'Fear Allah (and give me my right)." I said, 'Go and take those cows and the shepherd.' He said, 'Be afraid of Allah! Don't mock at me.' I said, 'I am not mocking at you. Take (all that).' So, he took all that. O Allah! If I did that for Your sake only, please remove the rest of the rock.' So, Allah removed the rock." (Using translation from Bukhārī 2333)   

البيهقي:١١٦٤٠أَخْبَرَنَا السَّيِّدُ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ دَاوُدَ الْعَلَوِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ أنبأ أَبُو حَامِدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْحَافِظُ سَنَةَ خَمْسٍ وَعِشْرِينَ وِثَلَاثِمِائَةٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الذُّهْلِيُّ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ ثنا نَافِعٌ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَمَا ثَلَاثَةُ رَهْطٍ يَتَمَشَّوْنَ أَخَذَهُمُ الْمَطَرُ فَأَوَوْا إِلَى غَارٍ فِي جَبَلٍ فَبَيْنَمَا هُمْ فِيهِ حُطَّتْ صَخْرَةٌ مِنَ الْجَبَلِ فَأَطْبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ انْظُرُوا أَفْضَلَ أَعْمَالٍ عَمِلْتُمُوهَا لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى فَسَلُوهُ بِهَا؛ لَعَلَّهُ يُفَرِّجُ بِهَا عَنْكُمْ فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمُ اللهُمَّ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِي وَالِدَانِ كَبِيرَانِ وَكَانَتْ لِيَ امْرَأَةٌ وَوَلَدٌ صِغَارٌ وَكُنْتُ أَرْعَى عَلَيْهِمْ فَإِذَا رُحْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ بَدَأْتُ بِأَبَوِيَّ فَسَقَيْتُهُمَا فَنَأَى بِي يَوْمًا الشَّجَرُ فَلَمْ آتِ حَتَّى نَامَ أَبَوَايَ فَطَيَّبْتُ الْإِنَاءَ ثُمَّ حَلَبْتُ فِيهِ ثُمَّ قُمْتُ بِحِلَابِي عِنْدَ رَأْسِ أَبَويَ وَالصِّبْيَةُ يَتَضَاغَوْنَ عِنْدِ رِجْلِيَّ أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَبْدَأَ بِهِمْ قَبْلَ أَبَوِيَّ وَأَكْرَهُ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُمَا مِنْ نَوْمَتِهِمَا فَلَمْ أَزَلْ كَذَلِكَ قَائِمًا حَتَّى أَضَاءَ الْفَجْرُ اللهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا فُرْجَةً نَرَى مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ فَفَرَجَ لَهُمْ فُرْجَةً رَأَوْا مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ اللهُمَّ إِنَّهَا كَانَتْ لِيَ ابْنَةُ عَمٍّ فَأَحْبَبْتُهَا حَتَّى كَانَتْ أَحَبَّ النَّاسِ إِلِيَّ فَسَأَلْتُهَا نَفْسَهَا فَقَالَتْ لَا حَتَّى تَأْتِيَنِي بِمِائَةِ دِينَارٍ فَسَعَيْتُ حَتَّى جَمَعْتُ مِائَةَ دِينَارٍ فَأَتَيْتُهَا بِهَا فَلَمَّا كُنْتُ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهَا قَالَتِ اتَّقِ اللهَ لَا تَفْتَحِ الْخَاتَمَ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهِ فَقُمْتُ عَنْهَا اللهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنْي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا مِنْهَا فُرْجَةً فَفَرَجَ لَهُمْ مِنْهَا فُرْجَةً وَقَالَ الثَّالِثُ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي كُنْتُ اسْتَأْجَرْتُ أَجِيرًا بِفَرَقِ ذُرَةٍ فَلَمَّا قَضَى عَمَلَهُ عَرَضْتُهُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَبَى أَنْ يَأْخُذَهُ فَرَغِبَ عَنْهُ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَعْتَمِلُ بِهِ حَتَّى جَمَعْتُ مِنْهُ بَقَرًا وَرِعَاءَهَا فَجَاءَنِي فَقَالَ اتَّقِ اللهَ وَأَعْطِنِي حَقِّي وَلَا تَظْلِمْنِي فَقُلْتُ لَهُ اذْهَبْ إِلَى تِلْكَ الْبَقَرِ وَرِعَائِهَا فَخُذْهَا فَقَالَ اتَّقِ اللهَ وَلَا تَهْزَأْ بِي فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي لَا أَهْزَأُ بِكَ اذْهَبْ إِلَى تِلْكَ الْبَقَرِ وَرِعَائِهَا فَخُذْهَا فَذَهَبَ فَاسْتَاقَهَا اللهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا مَا بَقِيَ مِنْهَا فَفَرَجَ اللهُ ﷻ عَنْهُمْ فَخَرَجُوا يَتَمَاشَوْنَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "While three persons were walking, rain began to fall and they had to enter a cave in a mountain. A big rock rolled over and blocked the mouth of the cave. They said to each other, 'Invoke Allah with the best deed you have performed (so Allah might remove the rock)'. One of them said, 'O Allah! My parents were old and I used to go out for grazing (my animals). On my return I would milk (the animals) and take the milk in a vessel to my parents to drink. After they had drunk from it, I would give it to my children, family and wife. One day I was delayed and on my return I found my parents sleeping, and I disliked to wake them up. The children were crying at my feet (because of hunger). That state of affairs continued till it was dawn. O Allah! If You regard that I did it for Your sake, then please remove this rock so that we may see the sky.' So, the rock was moved a bit. The second said, 'O Allah! You know that I was in love with a cousin of mine, like the deepest love a man may have for a woman, and she told me that I would not get my desire fulfilled unless I paid her one-hundred Dinars (gold pieces). So, I struggled for it till I gathered the desired amount, and when I sat in between her legs, she told me to be afraid of Allah, and asked me not to deflower her except rightfully (by marriage). So, I got up and left her. O Allah! If You regard that I did if for Your sake, kindly remove this rock.' So, two-thirds of the rock was removed. Then the third man said, 'O Allah! No doubt You know that once I employed a worker for one Faraq (three Sa's) of millet, and when I wanted to pay him, he refused to take it, so I sowed it and from its yield I bought cows and a shepherd. After a time that man came and demanded his money. I said to him: Go to those cows and the shepherd and take them for they are for you. He asked me whether I was joking with him. I told him that I was not joking with him, and all that belonged to him. O Allah! If You regard that I did it sincerely for Your sake, then please remove the rock.' So, the rock was removed completely from the mouth of the cave."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ خَرَجَ ثَلاَثَةٌ يَمْشُونَ فَأَصَابَهُمُ الْمَطَرُ فَدَخَلُوا فِي غَارٍ فِي جَبَلٍ فَانْحَطَّتْ عَلَيْهِمْ صَخْرَةٌ قَالَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ادْعُوا اللَّهَ بِأَفْضَلِ عَمَلٍ عَمِلْتُمُوهُ فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي كَانَ لِي أَبَوَانِ شَيْخَانِ كَبِيرَانِ فَكُنْتُ أَخْرُجُ فَأَرْعَى ثُمَّ أَجِيءُ فَأَحْلُبُ فَأَجِيءُ بِالْحِلاَبِ فَآتِي بِهِ أَبَوَىَّ فَيَشْرَبَانِ ثُمَّ أَسْقِي الصِّبْيَةَ وَأَهْلِي وَامْرَأَتِي فَاحْتَبَسْتُ لَيْلَةً فَجِئْتُ فَإِذَا هُمَا نَائِمَانِ قَالَ فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُمَا وَالصِّبِيْةُ يَتَضَاغَوْنَ عِنْدَ رِجْلَىَّ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ ذَلِكَ دَأْبِي وَدَأْبَهُمَا حَتَّى طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا فُرْجَةً نَرَى مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ قَالَ فَفُرِجَ عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي كُنْتُ أُحِبُّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ بَنَاتِ عَمِّي كَأَشَدِّ مَا يُحِبُّ الرَّجُلُ النِّسَاءَ فَقَالَتْ لاَ تَنَالُ ذَلِكَ مِنْهَا حَتَّى تُعْطِيَهَا مِائَةَ دِينَارٍ فَسَعَيْتُ فِيهَا حَتَّى جَمَعْتُهَا فَلَمَّا قَعَدْتُ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهَا قَالَتِ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلاَ تَفُضَّ الْخَاتَمَ إِلاَّ بِحَقِّهِ فَقُمْتُ وَتَرَكْتُهَا فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا فُرْجَةً قَالَ فَفَرَجَ عَنْهُمُ الثُّلُثَيْنِ وَقَالَ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي اسْتَأْجَرْتُ أَجِيرًا بِفَرَقٍ مِنْ ذُرَةٍ فَأَعْطَيْتُهُ وَأَبَى ذَاكَ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ فَعَمَدْتُ إِلَى ذَلِكَ الْفَرَقِ فَزَرَعْتُهُ حَتَّى اشْتَرَيْتُ مِنْهُ بَقَرًا وَرَاعِيَهَا ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ أَعْطِنِي حَقِّي فَقُلْتُ انْطَلِقْ إِلَى تِلْكَ الْبَقَرِ وَرَاعِيهَا فَإِنَّهَا لَكَ فَقَالَ أَتَسْتَهْزِئُ بِي قَالَ فَقُلْتُ مَا أَسْتَهْزِئُ بِكَ وَلَكِنَّهَا لَكَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا فَكُشِفَ عَنْهُمْ  

Three men trapped in a cave find an exit based on prior good deeds done sincerely for the sake of God

I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Three men from among those who were before you, set out together till they reached a cave at night and entered it. A big rock rolled down the mountain and closed the mouth of the cave. They said (to each other), Nothing could save you from this rock but to invoke Allah by giving reference to the righteous deed which you have done (for Allah's sake only).'"

"So, one of them said, 'O Allah! I had old parents and I never provided my family (wife, children, etc.) with milk before them. One day, by chance I was delayed, and I came late (at night) while they had slept. I milked the sheep for them and took the milk to them, but I found them sleeping. I disliked providing my family with the milk before them. I waited for them and the bowl of milk was in my hand and I kept on waiting for them to get up till the day dawned. Then they got up and drank the milk. O Allah! If I did that for Your Sake only, please relieve us from our critical situation caused by this rock.' So, the rock shifted a little but they could not get out."

The Prophet ﷺ added, "The second man said, 'O Allah! I had a cousin who was the dearest of all people to me and I wanted to have sexual relations with her but she refused. Later she had a hard time in a famine year and she came to me and I gave her one-hundred-and-twenty Dinars on the condition that she would not resist my desire, and she agreed. When I was about to fulfill my desire, she said: It is illegal for you to outrage my chastity except by legitimate marriage. So, I thought it a sin to have sexual intercourse with her and left her though she was the dearest of all the people to me, and also I left the gold I had given her. O Allah! If I did that for Your Sake only, please relieve us from the present calamity.' So, the rock shifted a little more but still they could not get out from there."

The Prophet ﷺ added, "Then the third man said, 'O Allah! I employed few laborers and I paid them their wages with the exception of one man who did not take his wages and went away. I invested his wages and I got much property thereby. (Then after some time) he came and said to me: O Allah's slave! Pay me my wages. I said to him: All the camels, cows, sheep, and slaves you see, are yours. He said: O Allah's slave! Don't mock me. I said: I am not mocking you. So, he took all the herd and drove them away and left nothing. O Allah! If I did that for Your Sake only, please relieve us from the present suffering.' So, that rock shifted completely and they got out walking."  

البخاري:٢٢٧٢حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ؓ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «انْطَلَقَ ثَلاَثَةُ رَهْطٍ مِمَّنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ حَتَّى أَوَوُا الْمَبِيتَ إِلَى غَارٍ فَدَخَلُوهُ فَانْحَدَرَتْ صَخْرَةٌ مِنَ الْجَبَلِ فَسَدَّتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الْغَارَ فَقَالُوا إِنَّهُ لاَ يُنْجِيكُمْ مِنْ هَذِهِ الصَّخْرَةِ إِلاَّ أَنْ تَدْعُوا اللَّهَ بِصَالِحِ أَعْمَالِكُمْ۔»

«فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمُ: اللَّهُمَّ كَانَ لِي أَبَوَانِ شَيْخَانِ كَبِيرَانِ وَكُنْتُ لاَ أَغْبِقُ قَبْلَهُمَا أَهْلاً وَلاَ مَالاً فَنَأَى بِي فِي طَلَبِ شَىْءٍ يَوْمًا فَلَمْ أُرِحْ عَلَيْهِمَا حَتَّى نَامَا فَحَلَبْتُ لَهُمَا غَبُوقَهُمَا فَوَجَدْتُهُمَا نَائِمَيْنِ وَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَغْبِقَ قَبْلَهُمَا أَهْلاً أَوْ مَالاً فَلَبِثْتُ وَالْقَدَحُ عَلَى يَدَىَّ أَنْتَظِرُ اسْتِيقَاظَهُمَا حَتَّى بَرَقَ الْفَجْرُ فَاسْتَيْقَظَا فَشَرِبَا غَبُوقَهُمَا۔ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتُ فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَفَرِّجْ عَنَّا مَا نَحْنُ فِيهِ مِنْ هَذِهِ الصَّخْرَةِ۔ فَانْفَرَجَتْ شَيْئًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ الْخُرُوجَ۔»

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: «وَقَالَ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ كَانَتْ لِي بِنْتُ عَمٍّ كَانَتْ أَحَبَّ النَّاسِ إِلَىَّ فَأَرَدْتُهَا عَنْ نَفْسِهَا فَامْتَنَعَتْ مِنِّي حَتَّى أَلَمَّتْ بِهَا سَنَةٌ مِنَ السِّنِينَ فَجَاءَتْنِي فَأَعْطَيْتُهَا عِشْرِينَ وَمِائَةَ دِينَارٍ عَلَى أَنْ تُخَلِّيَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ نَفْسِهَا فَفَعَلَتْ حَتَّى إِذَا قَدَرْتُ عَلَيْهَا قَالَتْ لاَ أُحِلُّ لَكَ أَنْ تَفُضَّ الْخَاتَمَ إِلاَّ بِحَقِّهِ فَتَحَرَّجْتُ مِنَ الْوُقُوعِ عَلَيْهَا فَانْصَرَفْتُ عَنْهَا وَهْىَ أَحَبُّ النَّاسِ إِلَىَّ وَتَرَكْتُ الذَّهَبَ الَّذِي أَعْطَيْتُهَا۔ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتُ فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا مَا نَحْنُ فِيهِ۔ فَانْفَرَجَتِ الصَّخْرَةُ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُمْ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ الْخُرُوجَ مِنْهَا۔»

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: «وَقَالَ الثَّالِثُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اسْتَأْجَرْتُ أُجَرَاءَ فَأَعْطَيْتُهُمْ أَجْرَهُمْ غَيْرَ رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ تَرَكَ الَّذِي لَهُ وَذَهَبَ فَثَمَّرْتُ أَجْرَهُ حَتَّى كَثُرَتْ مِنْهُ الأَمْوَالُ فَجَاءَنِي بَعْدَ حِينٍ فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ أَدِّ إِلَىَّ أَجْرِي فَقُلْتُ لَهُ كُلُّ مَا تَرَى مِنْ أَجْرِكَ مِنَ الإِبِلِ وَالْبَقَرِ وَالْغَنَمِ وَالرَّقِيقِ فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ لاَ تَسْتَهْزِئْ بِي فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي لاَ أَسْتَهْزِئُ بِكَ فَأَخَذَهُ كُلَّهُ فَاسْتَاقَهُ فَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا اللَّهُمَّ فَإِنْ كُنْتُ فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا مَا نَحْنُ فِيهِ فَانْفَرَجَتِ الصَّخْرَةُ فَخَرَجُوا يَمْشُونَ۔»

On my return to them in the evening, I used to milk (the sheep) and start providing my parents first of all before my children. One day I was delayed and came late at night and found my parents sleeping. I milked (the sheep) as usual and stood by their heads. I hated to wake them up and disliked to give milk to my children before them, although my children were weeping (because of hunger) at my feet till the day dawned. O Allah! If I did this for Your sake only, kindly remove the rock so that we could see the sky through it.' So, Allah removed the rock a little and they saw the sky. The second man said, 'O Allah! I was in love with a cousin of mine like the deepest love a man may have for a woman. I wanted to outrage her chastity but she refused unless I gave her one hundred Dinars. So, I struggled to collect that amount. And when I sat between her legs, she said, 'O Allah's slave! Be afraid of Allah and do not deflower me except rightfully (by marriage).' So, I got up. O Allah! If I did it for Your sake only, please remove the rock.' The rock shifted a little more. Then the third man said, 'O Allah! I employed a laborer for a Faraq of rice and when he finished his job and demanded his right, I presented it to him, but he refused to take it. So, I sowed the rice many time till I gathered cows and their shepherd (from the yield). (Then after some time) He came and said to me, 'Fear Allah (and give me my right)." I said, 'Go and take those cows and the shepherd.' He said, 'Be afraid of Allah! Don't mock at me.' I said, 'I am not mocking at you. Take (all that).' So, he took all that. O Allah! If I did that for Your sake only, please remove the rest of the rock.' So, Allah removed the rock."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا ثَلاَثَةُ نَفَرٍ يَمْشُونَ أَخَذَهُمُ الْمَطَرُ فَأَوَوْا إِلَى غَارٍ فِي جَبَلٍ فَانْحَطَّتْ عَلَى فَمِ غَارِهِمْ صَخْرَةٌ مِنَ الْجَبَلِ فَانْطَبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ انْظُرُوا أَعْمَالاً عَمِلْتُمُوهَا صَالِحَةً لِلَّهِ فَادْعُوا اللَّهَ بِهَا لَعَلَّهُ يُفَرِّجُهَا عَنْكُمْ قَالَ أَحَدُهُمُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِي وَالِدَانِ شَيْخَانِ كَبِيرَانِ وَلِي صِبْيَةٌ صِغَارٌ كُنْتُ أَرْعَى عَلَيْهِمْ فَإِذَا رُحْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ حَلَبْتُ فَبَدَأْتُ بِوَالِدَىَّ أَسْقِيهِمَا قَبْلَ بَنِيَّ وَإِنِّي اسْتَأْخَرْتُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَلَمْ آتِ حَتَّى أَمْسَيْتُ فَوَجَدْتُهُمَا نَامَا فَحَلَبْتُ كَمَا كُنْتُ أَحْلُبُ فَقُمْتُ عِنْدَ رُءُوسِهِمَا أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُمَا وَأَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَسْقِيَ الصِّبْيَةَ وَالصِّبْيَةُ يَتَضَاغَوْنَ عِنْدَ قَدَمَىَّ حَتَّى طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُهُ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ لَنَا فَرْجَةً نَرَى مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ فَفَرَجَ اللَّهُ فَرَأَوُا السَّمَاءَ وَقَالَ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهَا كَانَتْ لِي بِنْتُ عَمٍّ أَحْبَبْتُهَا كَأَشَدِّ مَا يُحِبُّ الرِّجَالُ النِّسَاءَ فَطَلَبْتُ مِنْهَا فَأَبَتْ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُهَا بِمِائَةِ دِينَارٍ فَبَغَيْتُ حَتَّى جَمَعْتُهَا فَلَمَّا وَقَعْتُ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهَا قَالَتْ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلاَ تَفْتَحِ الْخَاتَمَ إِلاَّ بِحَقِّهِ فَقُمْتُ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُهُ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا فَرْجَةً فَفَرَجَ وَقَالَ الثَّالِثُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اسْتَأْجَرْتُ أَجِيرًا بِفَرَقِ أَرُزٍّ فَلَمَّا قَضَى عَمَلَهُ قَالَ أَعْطِنِي حَقِّي فَعَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَغِبَ عَنْهُ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَزْرَعُهُ حَتَّى جَمَعْتُ مِنْهُ بَقَرًا وَرَاعِيهَا فَجَاءَنِي فَقَالَ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ فَقُلْتُ اذْهَبْ إِلَى ذَلِكَ الْبَقَرِ وَرُعَاتِهَا فَخُذْ فَقَالَ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلاَ تَسْتَهْزِئْ بِي فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي لاَ أَسْتَهْزِئُ بِكَ فَخُذْ فَأَخَذَهُ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ مَا بَقِيَ فَفَرَجَ اللَّهُ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَقَالَ ابْنُ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ فَسَعَيْتُ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Once three persons (from the previous nations) were traveling, and suddenly it started raining and they took shelter in a cave. The entrance of the cave got closed while they were inside. They said to each other, 'O you! Nothing can save you except the truth, so each of you should ask Allah's Help by referring to such a deed as he thinks he did sincerely (i.e. just for gaining Allah's Pleasure).' So one of them said, 'O Allah! You know that I had a laborer who worked for me for one Faraq (i.e. three Sas) of rice, but he departed, leaving it (i.e. his wages). I sowed that Faraq of rice and with its yield I bought cows (for him). Later on when he came to me asking for his wages, I said (to him), 'Go to those cows and drive them away.' He said to me, 'But you have to pay me only a Faraq of rice,' I said to him, 'Go to those cows and take them, for they are the product of that Faraq (of rice).' So he drove them. O Allah! If you consider that I did that for fear of You, then please remove the rock.' The rock shifted a bit from the mouth of the cave. The second one said, 'O Allah, You know that I had old parents whom I used to provide with the milk of my sheep every night. One night I was delayed and when I came, they had slept, while my wife and children were crying with hunger. I used not to let them (i.e. my family) drink unless my parents had drunk first. So I disliked to wake them up and also disliked that they should sleep without drinking it, I kept on waiting (for them to wake) till it dawned. O Allah! If You consider that I did that for fear of you, then please remove the rock.' So the rock shifted and they could see the sky through it. The (third) one said, 'O Allah! You know that I had a cousin (i.e. my paternal uncle's daughter) who was most beloved to me and I sought to seduce her, but she refused, unless I paid her one-hundred Dinars (i.e. gold pieces). So I collected the amount and brought it to her, and she allowed me to sleep with her. But when I sat between her legs, she said, 'Be afraid of Allah, and do not deflower me but legally. 'I got up and left the hundred Dinars (for her). O Allah! If You consider that I did that for fear of you than please remove the rock. So Allah saved them and they came out (of the cave)."  

البخاري:٣٤٦٥حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ خَلِيلٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا ثَلاَثَةُ نَفَرٍ مِمَّنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ يَمْشُونَ إِذْ أَصَابَهُمْ مَطَرٌ فَأَوَوْا إِلَى غَارٍ فَانْطَبَقَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ إِنَّهُ وَاللَّهِ يَا هَؤُلاَءِ لاَ يُنْجِيكُمْ إِلاَّ الصِّدْقُ فَلْيَدْعُ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنْكُمْ بِمَا يَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ صَدَقَ فِيهِ فَقَالَ وَاحِدٌ مِنْهُمُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ لِي أَجِيرٌ عَمِلَ لِي عَلَى فَرَقٍ مِنْ أَرُزٍّ فَذَهَبَ وَتَرَكَهُ وَأَنِّي عَمَدْتُ إِلَى ذَلِكَ الْفَرَقِ فَزَرَعْتُهُ فَصَارَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ أَنِّي اشْتَرَيْتُ مِنْهُ بَقَرًا وَأَنَّهُ أَتَانِي يَطْلُبُ أَجْرَهُ فَقُلْتُ اعْمِدْ إِلَى تِلْكَ الْبَقَرِ فَسُقْهَا فَقَالَ لِي إِنَّمَا لِي عِنْدَكَ فَرَقٌ مِنْ أَرُزٍّ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ اعْمِدْ إِلَى تِلْكَ الْبَقَرِ فَإِنَّهَا مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْفَرَقِ فَسَاقَهَا فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ فَفَرِّجْ عَنَّا فَانْسَاحَتْ عَنْهُمُ الصَّخْرَةُ فَقَالَ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ لِي أَبَوَانِ شَيْخَانِ كَبِيرَانِ فَكُنْتُ آتِيهِمَا كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ بِلَبَنِ غَنَمٍ لِي فَأَبْطَأْتُ عَلَيْهِمَا لَيْلَةً فَجِئْتُ وَقَدْ رَقَدَا وَأَهْلِي وَعِيَالِي يَتَضَاغَوْنَ مِنَ الْجُوعِ فَكُنْتُ لاَ أَسْقِيهِمْ حَتَّى يَشْرَبَ أَبَوَاىَ فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُمَا وَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَدَعَهُمَا فَيَسْتَكِنَّا لِشَرْبَتِهِمَا فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَنْتَظِرُ حَتَّى طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ فَفَرِّجْ عَنَّا فَانْسَاحَتْ عَنْهُمُ الصَّخْرَةُ حَتَّى نَظَرُوا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فَقَالَ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ لِي ابْنَةُ عَمٍّ مِنْ أَحَبِّ النَّاسِ إِلَىَّ وَأَنِّي رَاوَدْتُهَا عَنْ نَفْسِهَا فَأَبَتْ إِلاَّ أَنْ آتِيَهَا بِمِائَةِ دِينَارٍ فَطَلَبْتُهَا حَتَّى قَدَرْتُ فَأَتَيْتُهَا بِهَا فَدَفَعْتُهَا إِلَيْهَا فَأَمْكَنَتْنِي مِنْ نَفْسِهَا فَلَمَّا قَعَدْتُ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهَا فَقَالَتِ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلاَ تَفُضَّ الْخَاتَمَ إِلاَّ بِحَقِّهِ فَقُمْتُ وَتَرَكْتُ الْمِائَةَ دِينَارٍ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ فَفَرِّجْ عَنَّا فَفَرَّجَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ فَخَرَجُوا

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "While three persons were traveling, they were overtaken by rain and they took shelter in a cave in a mountain. A big rock fell from the mountain over the mouth of the cave and blocked it. They said to each other. 'Think of such good (righteous) deeds which, you did for Allah's sake only, and invoke Allah by giving reference to those deeds so that Allah may relieve you from your difficulty. one of them said, 'O Allah! I had my parents who were very old and I had small children for whose sake I used to work as a shepherd. When I returned to them at night and milked (the sheep), I used to start giving the milk to my parents first before giving to my children. And one day I went far away in search of a grazing place (for my sheep), and didn't return home till late at night and found that my parents had slept. I milked (my livestock) as usual and brought the milk vessel and stood at their heads, and I disliked to wake them up from their sleep, and I also disliked to give the milk to my children before my parents though my children were crying (from hunger) at my feet. So this state of mine and theirs continued till the day dawned. (O Allah!) If you considered that I had done that only for seeking Your pleasure, then please let there be an opening through which we can see the sky.' So Allah made for them an opening through which they could see the sky. Then the second person said, 'O Allah! I had a she-cousin whom I loved as much as a passionate man love a woman. I tried to seduce her but she refused till I paid her one-hundred Dinars So I worked hard till I collected one hundred Dinars and went to her with that But when I sat in between her legs (to have sexual intercourse with her), she said, 'O Allah's slave! Be afraid of Allah ! Do not deflower me except legally (by marriage contract). So I left her O Allah! If you considered that I had done that only for seeking Your pleasure then please let the rock move a little to have a (wider) opening.' So Allah shifted that rock to make the opening wider for them. And the last (third) person said 'O Allah ! I employed a laborer for wages equal to a Faraq (a certain measure: of rice, and when he had finished his job he demanded his wages, but when I presented his due to him, he gave it up and refused to take it. Then I kept on sowing that rice for him (several times) till managed to buy with the price of the yield, some cows and their shepherd Later on the laborer came to me an said. '(O Allah's slave!) Be afraid o Allah, and do not be unjust to me an give me my due.' I said (to him). 'Go and take those cows and their shepherd. So he took them and went away. (So, O Allah!) If You considered that I had done that for seeking Your pleasure, then please remove the remaining part of the rock.' And so Allah released them (from their difficulty).  

البخاري:٥٩٧٤حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعٌ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا ثَلاَثَةُ نَفَرٍ يَتَمَاشَوْنَ أَخَذَهُمُ الْمَطَرُ فَمَالُوا إِلَى غَارٍ فِي الْجَبَلِ فَانْحَطَّتْ عَلَى فَمِ غَارِهِمْ صَخْرَةٌ مِنَ الْجَبَلِ فَأَطْبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ انْظُرُوا أَعْمَالاً عَمِلْتُمُوهَا لِلَّهِ صَالِحَةً فَادْعُوا اللَّهَ بِهَا لَعَلَّهُ يَفْرُجُهَا فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِي وَالِدَانِ شَيْخَانِ كَبِيرَانِ وَلِي صِبْيَةٌ صِغَارٌ كُنْتُ أَرْعَى عَلَيْهِمْ فَإِذَا رُحْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَحَلَبْتُ بَدَأْتُ بِوَالِدَىَّ أَسْقِيهِمَا قَبْلَ وَلَدِي وَإِنَّهُ نَاءَ بِيَ الشَّجَرُ فَمَا أَتَيْتُ حَتَّى أَمْسَيْتُ فَوَجَدْتُهُمَا قَدْ نَامَا فَحَلَبْتُ كَمَا كُنْتُ أَحْلُبُ فَجِئْتُ بِالْحِلاَبِ فَقُمْتُ عِنْدَ رُءُوسِهِمَا أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُمَا مِنْ نَوْمِهِمَا وَأَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَبْدَأَ بِالصِّبْيَةِ قَبْلَهُمَا وَالصِّبْيَةُ يَتَضَاغَوْنَ عِنْدَ قَدَمَىَّ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ ذَلِكَ دَأْبِي وَدَأْبَهُمْ حَتَّى طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ لَنَا فُرْجَةً نَرَى مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ فَفَرَجَ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ فُرْجَةً حَتَّى يَرَوْنَ مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ وَقَالَ الثَّانِي اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُ كَانَتْ لِي ابْنَةُ عَمٍّ أُحِبُّهَا كَأَشَدِّ مَا يُحِبُّ الرِّجَالُ النِّسَاءَ فَطَلَبْتُ إِلَيْهَا نَفْسَهَا فَأَبَتْ حَتَّى آتِيَهَا بِمِائَةِ دِينَارٍ فَسَعَيْتُ حَتَّى جَمَعْتُ مِائَةَ دِينَارٍ فَلَقِيتُهَا بِهَا فَلَمَّا قَعَدْتُ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهَا قَالَتْ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلاَ تَفْتَحِ الْخَاتَمَ فَقُمْتُ عَنْهَا اللَّهُمَّ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي قَدْ فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ لَنَا مِنْهَا فَفَرَجَ لَهُمْ فُرْجَةً وَقَالَ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي كُنْتُ اسْتَأْجَرْتُ أَجِيرًا بِفَرَقِ أَرُزٍّ فَلَمَّا قَضَى عَمَلَهُ قَالَ أَعْطِنِي حَقِّي فَعَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِ حَقَّهُ فَتَرَكَهُ وَرَغِبَ عَنْهُ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَزْرَعُهُ حَتَّى جَمَعْتُ مِنْهُ بَقَرًا وَرَاعِيَهَا فَجَاءَنِي فَقَالَ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلاَ تَظْلِمْنِي وَأَعْطِنِي حَقِّي فَقُلْتُ اذْهَبْ إِلَى ذَلِكَ الْبَقَرِ وَرَاعِيهَا فَقَالَ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلاَ تَهْزَأْ بِي فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي لاَ أَهْزَأُ بِكَ فَخُذْ ذَلِكَ الْبَقَرَ وَرَاعِيَهَا فَأَخَذَهُ فَانْطَلَقَ بِهَا فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ مَا بَقِيَ فَفَرَجَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ

Three persons set out on a journey. They were overtaken by rain and they had to find protection in a mountain cave where at its mouth there fell a rock of that mountain and thus blocked them altogether. One of them said to the others: Look to your good deeds that you performed for the sake of Allah and then supplicate Allah, the Exalted, that He might rescue you (from this trouble). One of them said: 0 Allah, I had my parents who were old and my wife and my small children also. I tended the flock and when I came back to them in the evening, I milked them (the sheep, goats, cows, etc.) and first served that milk to my parents. One day I was obliged to go out to a distant place in search of fodder and I could not come back before evening and found them (the parents) asleep. I milked the animals as I used to milk and brought milk to them and stood by their heads avoiding to disturb them from sleep and I did not deem it advisable to serve milk to my children before serving them. My children wept near my feet. I remained there in that very state and my parents too until it was morning. And (0 Allah) if Thou art aware that I did this in order to seek Thine pleasure, grant us riddance from this trouble. (The rock slipped a bit) that they could see the sky. The second one said: 0 Allah, I had a female cousin whom I loved more than the men love the women. I wanted to have sexual intercourse with her; she refused but on the condition of getting one hundred dinirs. It was with very great difficulty that I could collect one hundred dinirs and then paid them to her and when I was going to have a sexual intercourse with her, that she said: Servant of Allah, fear Allah and do not break the seal (of chastity) but by lawful means. I got up. 0 Allah, if Thou art aware that I did this in order to seek Thine pleasure, rid us from this trouble. The situation was somewhat eased for them. The third one said: Allah, I employed a workman for a measure of rice. After he had finished his work I gave him his dues (in the form of) a measure of rice, but he did not accept them. I used these rice as seeds, and that gave a bumper crop and I became rich enough to have cows and flocks (in my possession). He came to me and said: Fear Allah, and commit no crueltv upon me in regard to my dues. I said to him: Takeaway this flock of cows and sheep. He said: Fear Allah and do not make a fun of me. I said: I am not making a fun of you. You take the cows and the flocks. So he took them. 0 Allah, if Thou art aware that I did it for Thine pleasure, case the situation for us. And Allah relieved them from the rest of the trouble.  

مسلم:٢٧٤٣aحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْمُسَيَّبِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عِيَاضٍ أَبَا ضَمْرَةَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا ثَلاَثَةُ نَفَرٍ يَتَمَشَّوْنَ أَخَذَهُمُ الْمَطَرُ فَأَوَوْا إِلَى غَارٍ فِي جَبَلٍ فَانْحَطَّتْ عَلَى فَمِ غَارِهِمْ صَخْرَةٌ مِنَ الْجَبَلِ فَانْطَبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ انْظُرُوا أَعْمَالاً عَمِلْتُمُوهَا صَالِحَةً لِلَّهِ فَادْعُوا اللَّهَ تَعَالَى بِهَا لَعَلَّ اللَّهَ يَفْرُجُهَا عَنْكُمْ فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِي وَالِدَانِ شَيْخَانِ كَبِيرَانِ وَامْرَأَتِي وَلِيَ صِبْيَةٌ صِغَارٌ أَرْعَى عَلَيْهِمْ فَإِذَا أَرَحْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ حَلَبْتُ فَبَدَأْتُ بِوَالِدَىَّ فَسَقَيْتُهُمَا قَبْلَ بَنِيَّ وَأَنَّهُ نَأَى بِي ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ الشَّجَرُ فَلَمْ آتِ حَتَّى أَمْسَيْتُ فَوَجَدْتُهُمَا قَدْ نَامَا فَحَلَبْتُ كَمَا كُنْتُ أَحْلُبُ فَجِئْتُ بِالْحِلاَبِ فَقُمْتُ عِنْدَ رُءُوسِهِمَا أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُمَا مِنْ نَوْمِهِمَا وَأَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَسْقِيَ الصِّبْيَةَ قَبْلَهُمَا وَالصِّبْيَةُ يَتَضَاغَوْنَ عِنْدَ قَدَمَىَّ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ ذَلِكَ دَأْبِي وَدَأْبَهُمْ حَتَّى طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ لَنَا مِنْهَا فُرْجَةً نَرَى مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ فَفَرَجَ اللَّهُ مِنْهَا فُرْجَةً فَرَأَوْا مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ وَقَالَ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُ كَانَتْ لِيَ ابْنَةُ عَمٍّ أَحْبَبْتُهَا كَأَشَدِّ مَا يُحِبُّ الرِّجَالُ النِّسَاءَ وَطَلَبْتُ إِلَيْهَا نَفْسَهَا فَأَبَتْ حَتَّى آتِيَهَا بِمِائَةِ دِينَارٍ فَتَعِبْتُ حَتَّى جَمَعْتُ مِائَةَ دِينَارٍ فَجِئْتُهَا بِهَا فَلَمَّا وَقَعْتُ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهَا قَالَتْ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلاَ تَفْتَحِ الْخَاتَمَ إِلاَّ بِحَقِّهِ فَقُمْتُ عَنْهَا فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ لَنَا مِنْهَا فُرْجَةً فَفَرَجَ لَهُمْ وَقَالَ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي كُنْتُ اسْتَأْجَرْتُ أَجِيرًا بِفَرَقِ أَرُزٍّ فَلَمَّا قَضَى عَمَلَهُ قَالَ أَعْطِنِي حَقِّي فَعَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَقَهُ فَرَغِبَ عَنْهُ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَزْرَعُهُ حَتَّى جَمَعْتُ مِنْهُ بَقَرًا وَرِعَاءَهَا فَجَاءَنِي فَقَالَ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلاَ تَظْلِمْنِي حَقِّي قُلْتُ اذْهَبْ إِلَى تِلْكَ الْبَقَرِ وَرِعَائِهَا فَخُذْهَا فَقَالَ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلاَ تَسْتَهْزِئْ بِي فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي لاَ أَسْتَهْزِئُ بِكَ خُذْ ذَلِكَ الْبَقَرَ وَرِعَاءَهَا فَأَخَذَهُ فَذَهَبَ بِهِ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ لَنَا مَا بَقِيَ فَفَرَجَ اللَّهُ مَا بَقِيَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out in the year of al-Hudaibbiyyah with over ten hundreds of Companions and when he came to Dhu al Hulaifah. He garlanded and marked the sacrificial animals, and entered the sacred state of Umrah. He then went on with the tradition. The Prophet moved on and when he came to the mountain, pass by which one descends (to Mecca) to them, his riding-beast knelt down, and the people said twice: Go on, go on, al-Qaswa has become jaded. The Prophet (May peace be upon him) said: She has not become jaded and that is not a characteristic of hers, but He Who restrained the elephant has restrained her. He then said: By Him in Whose hand my soul is, they will not ask any me good thing by which they honor which God has made sacred without my giving them it. He then urged her and she leaped up and he turned aside from them, and stopped at the farthest side of al-Hudaibiyyah at a pool with little water. Meanwhile Budail bin Warqa al-Khuza’I came, and ‘Urwah bin Mas’ud joined him. He began to speak to the Prophet ﷺ. Whenever he spoke to the Prophet ﷺ, he caught his beard. Al Mughriah bin Shu’bah was standing beside the Prophet ﷺ.He had a sword with him, wearing a helmet. He (Al Mughriah) struck his (‘Urwah’s) hand with the lower end of his sheath, and said: Keep away your hand from his beard. ‘Urwah then raised his hand and asked: Who is this? They replied: Al-Mughirah bin Shu’bah. He said: O treacherous one! Did I not use my offices in your treachery? In pre-Islamic days Al-Mughirah bin Shu’bah accompanied some people and murdered them, and took their property. He then came (to the Prophet) and embraced Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said: As for Islam we accepted it, but as to the property, as it has been taken by treachery, we have no need of it. He went on with the tradition the Prophet ﷺ said: Write down: This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, has decided. He then narrated the tradition. Suhail then said: And that a man will not come to you from us, even if he follows your religion, without you sending him back to us. When he finished drawing up the document, the Prophet ﷺ said to his Companions: Get up and sacrifice and then shave. Thereafter some believing women who were immigrants came. (Allah sent down: O yea who believe, when believing women come to you as emigrants). Allah most high forbade them to send them back, but ordered them to restore the dower. He then returned to Medina. Abu Basir a man from the Quraish (who was a Muslim), came to him. And they sent (two men) to look for him; so he handed him over to the two men. They took him away, and when they reached Dhu Al Hulaifah and alighted to eat some dates which they had, Abu Basir said to one of the men : I swear by Allah so-and-so, that I think this sword of yours is a fine one; the other drew the sword and said : Yes I have tried it. Abu Basir said: Let me look at it. He let him have it and he struck him till he died, whereupon the other fled and came to Medina, and running entered the mosque. The Prophet ( may peace be upon him) said: This man has seen something frightful. He said: I swear by Allah that my Companion has been killed, and im as good as dead. Abu Basir then arrived and said: Allah has fulfilled your covenant. You returned me to them, but Allah saved me from them. The Prophet ﷺ said: Woe to his mother, stirrer up of war! Would that he had someone (i.e. some kinsfolk). When he heard that he knew that he would send him back to them, so he went out and came to the seashore. Abu Jandal escaped and joined Abu Basir till a band of them collected.  

أبو داود:٢٧٦٥حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ ثَوْرٍ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ قَالَ

خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ فِي بِضْعَ عَشَرَةَ مِائَةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ قَلَّدَ الْهَدْىَ وَأَشْعَرَهُ وَأَحْرَمَ بِالْعُمْرَةِ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ وَسَارَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ بِالثَّنِيَّةِ الَّتِي يُهْبَطُ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْهَا بَرَكَتْ بِهِ رَاحِلَتُهُ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ حَلْ حَلْ خَلأَتِ الْقَصْوَاءُ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا خَلأَتْ وَمَا ذَلِكَ لَهَا بِخُلُقٍ وَلَكِنْ حَبَسَهَا حَابِسُ الْفِيلِ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لاَ يَسْأَلُونِي الْيَوْمَ خُطَّةً يُعَظِّمُونَ بِهَا حُرُمَاتِ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ أَعْطَيْتُهُمْ إِيَّاهَا ثُمَّ زَجَرَهَا فَوَثَبَتْ فَعَدَلَ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّى نَزَلَ بِأَقْصَى الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ عَلَى ثَمَدٍ قَلِيلِ الْمَاءِ فَجَاءَهُ بُدَيْلُ بْنُ وَرْقَاءَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ يَعْنِي عُرْوَةَ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ فَجَعَلَ يُكَلِّمُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَكُلَّمَا كَلَّمَهُ أَخَذَ بِلِحْيَتِهِ وَالْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ قَائِمٌ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ السَّيْفُ وَعَلَيْهِ الْمِغْفَرُ فَضَرَبَ يَدَهُ بِنَعْلِ السَّيْفِ وَقَالَ أَخِّرْ يَدَكَ عَنْ لِحْيَتِهِ فَرَفَعَ عُرْوَةُ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالُوا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ فَقَالَ أَىْ غُدَرُ أَوَلَسْتُ أَسْعَى فِي غَدْرَتِكَ وَكَانَ الْمُغِيرَةُ صَحِبَ قَوْمًا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَقَتَلَهُمْ وَأَخَذَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَأَسْلَمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمَّا الإِسْلاَمُ فَقَدْ قَبِلْنَا وَأَمَّا الْمَالُ فَإِنَّهُ مَالُ غَدْرٍ لاَ حَاجَةَ لَنَا فِيهِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اكْتُبْ هَذَا مَا قَاضَى عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَقَصَّ الْخَبَرَ فَقَالَ سُهَيْلٌ وَعَلَى أَنَّهُ لاَ يَأْتِيكَ مِنَّا رَجُلٌ وَإِنْ كَانَ عَلَى دِينِكَ إِلاَّ رَدَدْتَهُ إِلَيْنَا فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ قَضِيَّةِ الْكِتَابِ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لأَصْحَابِهِ قُومُوا فَانْحَرُوا ثُمَّ احْلِقُوا ثُمَّ جَاءَ نِسْوَةٌ مُؤْمِنَاتٌ مُهَاجِرَاتٌ الآيَةَ فَنَهَاهُمُ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَرُدُّوهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَرُدُّوا الصَّدَاقَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَجَاءَهُ أَبُو بَصِيرٍ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ يَعْنِي فَأَرْسَلُوا فِي طَلَبِهِ فَدَفَعَهُ إِلَى الرَّجُلَيْنِ فَخَرَجَا بِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَا ذَا الْحُلَيْفَةِ نَزَلُوا يَأْكُلُونَ مِنْ تَمْرٍ لَهُمْ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَصِيرٍ لأَحَدِ الرَّجُلَيْنِ وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأَرَى سَيْفَكَ هَذَا يَا فُلاَنُ جَيِّدًا فَاسْتَلَّهُ الآخَرُ فَقَالَ أَجَلْ قَدْ جَرَّبْتُ بِهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَصِيرٍ أَرِنِي أَنْظُرْ إِلَيْهِ فَأَمْكَنَهُ مِنْهُ فَضَرَبَهُ حَتَّى بَرَدَ وَفَرَّ الآخَرُ حَتَّى أَتَى الْمَدِينَةَ فَدَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ يَعْدُو فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَقَدْ رَأَى هَذَا ذُعْرًا فَقَالَ قَدْ قُتِلَ وَاللَّهِ صَاحِبِي وَإِنِّي لَمَقْتُولٌ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَصِيرٍ فَقَالَ قَدْ أَوْفَى اللَّهُ ذِمَّتَكَ فَقَدْ رَدَدْتَنِي إِلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ نَجَّانِي اللَّهُ مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَيْلَ أُمِّهِ مِسْعَرَ حَرْبٍ لَوْ كَانَ لَهُ أَحَدٌ فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ ذَلِكَ عَرَفَ أَنَّهُ سَيَرُدُّهُ إِلَيْهِمْ فَخَرَجَ حَتَّى أَتَى سِيفَ الْبَحْرِ وَيَنْفَلِتُ أَبُو جَنْدَلٍ فَلَحِقَ بِأَبِي بَصِيرٍ حَتَّى اجْتَمَعَتْ مِنْهُمْ عِصَابَةٌ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Ghālib ibn ‘Abdullah al-Kalbi with Kalb, the Lion, to the tribe of Banī Mulawwah in al-Kudayd. He commanded him to change their position, so we went with him until we reached Qudayd. There, we met al-Harith ibn Mālik, who was from the tribe of Lays, so we captured him. He said, "I have only come to embrace Islam." Ghālib ibn ‘Abdullah said, "If you have come as a Muslim, then no harm will come to you for one day and one night. However, if you have come for something else, we will take precautions with you." He said, "I give you my word and security." So Ghālib ibn ‘Abdullah gave him a bond of safety, and then he left someone dark-skinned with him, who was with us. He said to him, "Stay with him until we pass by you. If he confronts you, grab his head." He said, "Then we continued until we reached the belly of al-Kudayd. We camped there after ‘Asr prayer. My companions sent me to a hilltop to observe the enemy. I lay on top of it until it was Maghrib time. A man among them came out and looked. He saw me lying on the hilltop and said to his wife, 'By Allah, I see someone lying on this hilltop. I did not see him in the morning. Be careful, lest the dogs have eaten some of our provisions.' She looked and said, 'No, by Allah, I have not lost anything.' He said, 'Then give me my bow and two arrows from my quiver.' She gave them to him, and he shot me with an arrow, which I placed by my side. I took it and did not move. Then he shot me with another arrow, which I placed on top of my right shoulder. I took it and did not move. He said to his wife, 'By Allah, these arrows have touched me. If they were enchanted, they would have moved. When it is morning, seek for my arrows and take them. However, do not bite them, for the dogs might be affected by them.' We waited there until their scent had dissipated, and they settled down or went to sleep. In the darkness of the night, we launched a surprise attack on them and killed those we killed from among them, and we took their flocks. We headed off swiftly until we passed by al-Harith ibn al-Barssā’, his friend. We took him with us. The people shouted aloud to their people in a state of shock, and we advanced swiftly. When there was nothing left between us and them except the belly of the valley, a flood came down between us and them, which Allah sent wherever He pleased. We had never seen anything like it before, neither rain nor hail. It came with something that no one can withstand. We saw them standing, looking at us, but none of them could advance, while we crossed it swiftly until it settled. Then we attacked them from a hidden position until we defeated them with what we had in our hands.

بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَالِبَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْكَلْبِيَّ كَلْبَ لَيْثٍ إِلَى بَنِي مُلَوَّحٍ بِالْكَدِيدِ وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يُغِيرَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَخَرَجَ فَكُنْتُ فِي سَرِيَّتِهِ فَمَضَيْنَا حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِقُدَيْدٍ لَقِينَا بِهِ الْحَارِثَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْبَرْصَاءِ اللَّيْثِيُّ فَأَخَذْنَاهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا جِئْتُ لِأُسْلِمَ فَقَالَ غَالِبُ بْنُعَبْدِ اللهِ إِنْ كُنْتَ إِنَّمَا جِئْتَ مُسْلِمًا فَلَنْ يَضُرَّكَ رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ عَلَى غَيْرِ ذَلِكَ اسْتَوْثَقْنَا مِنْكَ قَالَ فَأَوْثَقَهُ رِبَاطًا ثُمَّ خَلَّفَ عَلَيْهِ رَجُلًا أَسْوَدَ كَانَ مَعَنَا فَقَالَ امْكُثْ مَعَهُ حَتَّى نَمُرَّ عَلَيْكَ فَإِنْ نَازَعَكَ فَاحْتَزَّ رَأْسَهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ مَضَيْنَا حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا بَطْنَ الْكَدِيدِ فَنَزَلْنَا عُشَيْشِيَةً بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَبَعَثَنِي أَصْحَابِي فِي رَئِيَّةٍ فَعَمَدْتُ إِلَى تَلٍّ يُطْلِعُنِي عَلَى الْحَاضِرِ فَانْبَطَحْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَذَلِكَ الْمَغْرِبَ فَخَرَجَ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ فَنَظَرَ فَرَآنِي مُنْبَطِحًا عَلَى التَّلِّ فَقَالَ لِامْرَأَتِهِ وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأَرَى عَلَى هَذَا التَّلِّ سَوَادًا مَا رَأَيْتُهُ أَوَّلَ النَّهَارِ فَانْظُرِي لَا تَكُونُ الْكِلَابُ اجْتَرَّتْ بَعْضَ أَوْعِيَتِكِ قَالَ فَنَظَرَتْ فَقَالَتْ لَا وَاللهِ مَا أَفْقِدُ شَيْئًا قَالَ فَنَاوِلِينِي قَوْسِي وَسَهْمَيْنِ مِنْ كِنَانَتِي قَالَ فَنَاوَلَتْهُ فَرَمَانِي بِسَهْمٍ فَوَضَعَهُ فِي جَنْبِي قَالَ فَنَزَعْتُهُ فَوَضَعْتُهُ وَلَمْ أَتَحَرَّكْ ثُمَّ رَمَانِي بِآخَرَ فَوَضَعَهُ فِي رَأْسِ مَنْكِبِيفَنَزَعْتُهُ فَوَضَعْتُهُ وَلَمْ أَتَحَرَّكْ فَقَالَ لِامْرَأَتِهِ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ خَالَطَهُ سَهْمَايَ وَلَوْ كَانَ زَائِلَةً لَتَحَرَّكَ فَإِذَا أَصْبَحْتِ فَابْتَغِي سَهْمَيَّ فَخُذِيهِمَا لَا تَمْضُغُهُمَا عَلَيَّ الْكِلَابُ قَالَ وَأَمْهَلْنَاهُمْ حَتَّى رَاحَتْ رَائِحَتُهُمْ حَتَّى إِذَا احْتَلَبُوا وَعَطَنُوا أَوْ سَكَنُوا وَذَهَبَتْ عَتَمَةٌ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ شَنَنَّا عَلَيْهِمُ الْغَارَةَ فَقَتَلْنَا مَنْ قَتَلْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَاسْتَقْنَا النَّعَمَ فَتَوَجَّهْنَا قَافِلِينَ وَخَرَجَ صَرِيخُ الْقَوْمِ إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ مُغَوِّثًا وَخَرَجْنَا سِرَاعًا حَتَّى نَمُرَّ بِالْحَارِثِ ابْنِ الْبَرْصَاءِ وَصَاحِبِهِ فَانْطَلَقْنَا بِهِ مَعَنَا وَأَتَانَا صَرِيخُ النَّاسِ فَجَاءَنَا مَا لَا قِبَلَ لَنَا بِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمْ إِلَّا بَطْنُ الْوَادِي أَقْبَلَ سَيْلٌ حَالَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمْ بَعَثَهُ اللهُ تَعَالَى مِنْ حَيْثُ شَاءَ مَا رَأَيْنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ مَطَرًا وَلَا خَالًا فَجَاءَ بِمَا لَا يَقْدِرُ أَحَدٌ أَنْ يَقُومَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْنَاهُمْ وُقُوفًا يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْنَا مَا يَقْدِرُ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ وَنَحْنُ نَجُوزُهَا سِرَاعًا حَتَّى أَسْنَدْنَاهَا فِي الْمَشْلَلِ ثُمَّ حَدَرْنَاهَا عَنَّا فَأَعْجَزْنَا الْقَوْمَ بِمَا فِي أَيْدِينَا

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever among you can be like the companion of the Trench, then let him be like him." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, who is the companion of the Trench?" He said, "There were three men who went out during a rainy night and the sky became cloudy, so they sought shelter in a cave. A large rock rolled down from the top of the mountain and blocked the entrance. They tried to move it but were unable. One of them said to the others, 'Indeed, we have been afflicted with a great calamity, so let each of you supplicate to Allah with the best of his deeds, perhaps Allah will relieve us from this.' One of them said, 'O Allah, You know that I had parents who were elderly and I used to milk their animals and bring them the milk before I would consume anything myself. One day, I was delayed and they went to sleep before I could give them the milk. I stayed standing, with the container of milk in my hand, not wanting to burden them by waking them up or starting with anyone else before them. And my children were crying out of hunger around me. O Allah, if I did that seeking Your pleasure, then remove this harm from us.' Then the rock moved a bit. Another one said, 'O Allah, You know that I had a cousin whom I loved more than anything else of Your creation. I wanted her for myself, but she refused unless I paid her a hundred gold coins. So I struggled and worked hard until I earned a hundred gold coins and I gave them to her. When I sat with her, she said, 'Fear Allah and do not disgrace the signet ring.' So I stood up from her, and O Allah, if I did that seeking Your pleasure, then remove this harm from us.' Then the rock moved a bit more. The third one said, 'O Allah, You know that I worked for a man for a share of a of a camel loaded with food grains. When I completed my work and went to him to take my share, he gave me my due but he gave me an extra amount as a bonus. So I said to him, 'Fear Allah and do not be unfair in your dealings.' He replied, 'Take it, for it is a bonus from Allah to you.' O Allah, if I did that seeking Your pleasure, then remove this harm from us.' Then the rock moved completely and they were able to leave the cave."  

أحمد:٥٩٧٣حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ الْعُمَرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَكُونَ مِثْلَ صَاحِبِ فَرَقِ الْأَرُزِّ فَلْيَكُنْ مِثْلَهُ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَا صَاحِبُ فَرَقِ الْأَرُزِّ؟ قَالَ خَرَجَ ثَلَاثَةٌ فَغَيَّمَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّمَاءُ فَدَخَلُوا غَارًا فَجَاءَتْ صَخْرَةٌ مِنْ أَعْلَى الْجَبَلِ حَتَّى طَبَّقَتِ الْبَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَعَالَجُوهَا فَلَمْ يَسْتَطِيعُوهَا فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ لَقَدْ وَقَعْتُمْ فِي أَمْرٍ عَظِيمٍ فَلْيَدْعُ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ بِأَحْسَنِ مَا عَمِلَ لَعَلَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى أَنْ يُنْجِيَنَا مِنْ هَذَا فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمْ اللهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ لِي أَبَوَانِ شَيْخَانِ كَبِيرَانِ وَكُنْتُ أَحْلُبُ حِلَابَهُمَا فَأَجِيئُهُمَا وَقَدْ نَامَا فَكُنْتُ أَبِيتُ قَائِمًا وَحِلَابُهُمَا عَلَى يَدِي أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَبْدَأَ بِأَحَدٍ قَبْلَهُمَا أَوْ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُمَا مِنْ نَوْمِهِمَا وَصِبْيَتِي يَتَضَاغَوْنَ حَوْلِي فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي إِنَّمَا فَعَلْتُهُ مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا قَالَ فَتَحَرَّكَتِ الصَّخْرَةُ قَالَ وَقَالَ الثَّانِي اللهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ كَانَتْ لِي ابْنَةُ عَمٍّ لَمْ يَكُنْ شَيْءٌ مِمَّا خَلَقْتَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْهَا فَسُمْتُهَا نَفْسَهَا فَقَالَتْ لَا وَاللهِ دُونَ مِائَةِ دِينَارٍ فَجَمَعْتُهَاوَدَفَعْتُهَا إِلَيْهَا حَتَّى إِذَا أَنَا جَلَسْتُ مِنْهَا مَجْلِسَ الرَّجُلِ فَقَالَتْ اتَّقِ اللهَ وَلَا تَفُضَّ الْخَاتَمَ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهِ فَقُمْتُ عَنْهَا فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّمَا فَعَلْتُهُ مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا قَالَ فَزَالَتِ الصَّخْرَةُ حَتَّى بَدَتِ السَّمَاءُ وَقَالَ الثَّالِثُ اللهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي كُنْتُ اسْتَأْجَرْتُ أَجِيرًا بِفَرَقٍ مِنْ أَرُزٍّ فَلَمَّا أَمْسَى عَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِ حَقَّهُ فَأَبَى أَنْ يَأْخُذَهُ وَذَهَبَ وَتَرَكَنِي فَتَحَرَّجْتُ مِنْهُ وَثَمَّرْتُهُ لَهُ وَأَصْلَحْتُهُ حَتَّى اشْتَرَيْتُ مِنْهُ بَقَرًا وَرَاعِيَهَا فَلَقِيَنِي بَعْدَ حِينٍ فَقَالَ اتَّقِ اللهَ وَأَعْطِنِي أَجْرِي وَلَا تَظْلِمْنِي فَقُلْتُ انْطَلِقْ إِلَى ذَلِكَ الْبَقَرِ وَرَاعِيهَا فَخُذْهَا فَقَالَ اتَّقِ اللهَ وَلَا تَسْخَرْ بِي فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي لَسْتُ أَسْخَرُ بِكَ فَانْطَلَقَ فَاسْتَاقَ ذَلِكَ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي إِنَّمَا فَعَلْتُهُ ابْتِغَاءَ مَرْضَاتِكَ خَشْيَةً مِنْكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا فَتَدَحْرَجَتِ الصَّخْرَةُ فَخَرَجُوا يَمْشُونَ

Once we were traveling with the Prophet ﷺ and we carried on traveling till the last part of the night and then we (halted at a place) and slept (deeply). There is nothing sweeter than sleep for a traveler in the last part of the night. So it was only the heat of the sun that made us to wake up and the first to wake up was so and so, then so and so and then so and so (the narrator ʿAuf said that Abu Raja' had told him their names but he had forgotten them) and the fourth person to wake up was ʿUmar bin Al- Khattab. And whenever the Prophet ﷺ used to sleep, nobody would wake up him till he himself used to get up as we did not know what was happening (being revealed) to him in his sleep. So, ʿUmar got up and saw the condition of the people, and he was a strict man, so he said, "Allahu Akbar" and raised his voice with Takbir, and kept on saying loudly till the Prophet ﷺ got up because of it. When he got up, the people informed him about what had happened to them. He said, "There is no harm (or it will not be harmful). Depart!" So they departed from that place, and after covering some distance the Prophet ﷺ stopped and asked for some water to perform the ablution. So he performed the ablution and the call for the prayer was pronounced and he led the people in prayer. After he finished from the prayer, he saw a man sitting aloof who had not prayed with the people. He asked, "O so and so! What has prevented you from praying with us?" He replied, "I am Junub and there is no water. " The Prophet ﷺ said, "Perform Tayammum with (clean) earth and that is sufficient for you." Then the Prophet ﷺ proceeded on and the people complained to him of thirst. Thereupon he got down and called a person (the narrator ʿAuf added that Abu Raja' had named him but he had forgotten) and ʿAli, and ordered them to go and bring water. So they went in search of water and met a woman who was sitting on her camel between two bags of water. They asked, "Where can we find water?" She replied, "I was there (at the place of water) this hour yesterday and my people are behind me." They requested her to accompany them. She asked, "Where?" They said, "To Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." She said, "Do you mean the man who is called the Sabi, (with a new religion)?" They replied, "Yes, the same person. So come along." They brought her to the Prophet ﷺ and narrated the whole story. He said, "Help her to dismount." The Prophet ﷺ asked for a pot, then he opened the mouths of the bags and poured some water into the pot. Then he closed the big openings of the bags and opened the small ones and the people were called upon to drink and water their animals. So they all watered their animals and they (too) all quenched their thirst and also gave water to others and last of all the Prophet ﷺ gave a pot full of water to the person who was Junub and told him to pour it over his body. The woman was standing and watching all that which they were doing with her water. By Allah, when her water bags were returned the looked like as if they were more full (of water) than they had been before (Miracle of Messenger of Allah ﷺ) Then the Prophet ﷺ ordered us to collect something for her; so dates, flour and Sawiq were collected which amounted to a good meal that was put in a piece of cloth. She was helped to ride on her camel and that cloth full of foodstuff was also placed in front of her and then the Prophet ﷺ said to her, "We have not taken your water but Allah has given water to us." She returned home late. Her relatives asked her: "O so and so what has delayed you?" She said, "A strange thing! Two men met me and took me to the man who is called the Sabi' and he did such and such a thing. By Allah, he is either the greatest magician between this and this (gesturing with her index and middle fingers raising them towards the sky indicating the heaven and the earth) or he is Allah's true Apostle." Afterwards the Muslims used to attack the pagans around her abode but never touched her village. One day she said to her people, "I think that these people leave you purposely. Have you got any inclination to Islam?" They obeyed her and all of them embraced Islam. Abu ʿAbdullah said: The word Saba'a means "The one who has deserted his old religion and embraced a new religion." Abul 'Ailya [??] said, "The SʿAbis are a sect of people of the Scripture who recite the Book of Psalms." (Using translation from Bukhārī 344)  

أحمد:١٩٨٩٨حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ عَوْفٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو رَجَاءٍ حَدَّثَنِي عِمَرانُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ

كُنَّا فِي سَفَرٍ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَإِنَّا أَسْرَيْنَا حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا فِي آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ وَقَعْنَا تِلْكَ الْوَقْعَةَ فَلَا وَقْعَةَ أَحْلَى عِنْدَ الْمُسَافِرِ مِنْهَا قَالَ فَمَا أَيْقَظَنَا إِلَّا حَرُّ الشَّمْسِ وَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ اسْتَيْقَظَ فُلَانٌ ثُمَّ فُلَانٌ كَانَ يُسَمِّيهِمْ أَبُو رَجَاءٍ وَنَسِيَهُمْ عَوْفٌ ثُمَّ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ الرَّابِعُ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا نَامَ لَمْ نُوقِظْهُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ هُوَ يَسْتَيْقِظُ؛ لِأَنَّا لَا نَدْرِي مَا يَحْدُثُ لَهُ فِي نَوْمِهِ فَلَمَّا اسْتَيْقَظَ عُمَرُ وَرَأَى مَا أَصَابَ النَّاسَ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا أَجْوَفَ جَلِيدًا قَالَ فَكَبَّرَ وَرَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ فَمَا زَالَ يُكَبِّرُ وَيَرْفَعُ صَوْتَهُ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ حَتَّى اسْتَيْقَظَ لِصَوْتِهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا اسْتَيْقَظَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ شَكَوْا الَّذِي أَصَابَهُمْ فَقَالَ لَا ضَيْرَ أَوْ لَا يَضِيرُ ارْتَحِلُوا فَارْتَحَلَ فَسَارَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَدَعَا بِالْوَضُوءِ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَنُودِيَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ فَلَمَّا انْفَتَلَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ إِذَا هُوَ بِرَجُلٍ مُعْتَزِلٍ لَمْ يُصَلِّ مَعَ الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ يَا فُلَانُ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ مَعَ الْقَوْمِ؟ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَصَابَتْنِي جَنَابَةٌ وَلَا مَاءَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَيْكَ بِالصَّعِيدِ؛ فَإِنَّهُ يَكْفِيكَ ثُمَّ سَارَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَاشْتَكَى إِلَيْهِ النَّاسُ الْعَطَشَ فَنَزَلَ فَدَعَا فُلَانًا كَانَ يُسَمِّيهِ أَبُو رَجَاءٍ وَنَسِيَهُ عَوْفٌ وَدَعَا عَلِيًّافَقَالَ اذْهَبَا فَابْغِيَا لَنَا الْمَاءَ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَا فَيَلْقَيَانِ امْرَأَةً بَيْنَ مَزَادَتَيْنِ أَوْ سَطِيحَتَيْنِ مِنْ مَاءٍ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ لَهَا فَقَالَا لَهَا أَيْنَ الْمَاءُ؟ فَقَالَتْ عَهْدِي بِالْمَاءِ أَمْسِ هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ وَنَفَرُنَا خُلُوفٌ قَالَ فَقَالَا لَهَا انْطَلِقِي إِذًا قَالَتْ إِلَى أَيْنَ؟ قَالَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ قَالَتْ هَذَا الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ الصَّابِئُ؟ قَالَا هُوَ الَّذِي تَعْنِينَ فَانْطَلِقِي إِذًا فَجَاءَا بِهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَحَدَّثَاهُ الْحَدِيثَ فَاسْتَنْزَلُوهَا عَنْ بَعِيرِهَا وَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِإِنَاءٍ فَأَفْرَغَ فِيهِ مِنْ أَفْوَاهِ الْمَزَادَتَيْنِ أَوِ السَّطِيحَتَيْنِ وَأَوْكَى أَفْوَاهَهُمَا فَأَطْلَقَ الْعَزَالِي وَنُودِيَ فِي النَّاسِ أَنْ اسْقُوا وَاسْتَقُوا فَسَقَى مَنْ شَاءَ وَاسْتَقَى مَنْ شَاءَ وَكَانَ آخِرُ ذَلِكَ أَنْ أَعْطَى الَّذِي أَصَابَتْهُ الْجَنَابَةُ إِنَاءً مِنْ مَاءٍ فَقَالَ اذْهَبْ فَأَفْرِغْهُ عَلَيْكَ قَالَ وَهِيَ قَائِمَةٌ تَنْظُرُ مَا يُفْعَلُ بِمَائِهَا قَالَ وَايْمُ اللهِ لَقَدْ أَقْلَعَ عَنْهَا وَإِنَّهُ لَيُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْنَا أَنَّهَا أَشَدُّ مِلْأَةً مِنْهَا حِينَ ابْتَدَأَ فِيهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اجْمَعُوا لَهَا فَجَمَعُوا لَهَا مِنْ بَيْنِ عَجْوَةٍ وَدَقِيقَةٍ وَسُوَيْقَةٍ حَتَّى جَمَعُوا لَهَا طَعَامًا كَثِيرًا وَجَعَلُوهُ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَحَمَلُوهَا عَلَى بَعِيرِهَا وَوَضَعُوا الثَّوْبَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَعْلَمِينَ وَاللهِ مَا رَزِئْنَاكِ مِنْ مَائِكِ شَيْئًا وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ سَقَانَا قَالَ فَأَتَتْ أَهْلَهَا وَقَدِ احْتَبَسَتْ عَنْهُمْ فَقَالُوامَا حَبَسَكِ يَا فُلَانَةُ؟ فَقَالَتْ الْعَجَبُ لَقِيَنِي رَجُلَانِ فَذَهَبَا بِي إِلَى هَذَا الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ الصَّابِئُ فَفَعَلَ بِمَائِي كَذَا وَكَذَا لِلَّذِي قَدْ كَانَ فَوَاللهِ إِنَّهُ لَأَسْحَرُ مَنْ بَيْنَ هَذِهِ وَهَذِهِ وَقَالَتْ بِأُصْبُعَيْهَا الْوُسْطَى وَالسَّبَّابَةِ فَرَفَعَتْهُمَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ تَعْنِي السَّمَاءَ وَالْأَرْضَ أَوْ إِنَّهُ لَرَسُولُ اللهِ حَقًّا قَالَ وَكَانَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ بَعْدُ يُغِيرُونَ عَلَى مَا حَوْلَهَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَلَا يُصِيبُونَ الصِّرْمَ الَّذِي هِيَ مِنْهُ فَقَالَتْ يَوْمًا لِقَوْمِهَا مَا أَرَى أَنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ الْقَوْمَ يَدَعُونَكُمْ عَمْدًا ؟ فَهَلْ لَكُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ؟ فَأَطَاعُوهَا فَدَخَلُوا فِي الْإِسْلَامِ

[Machine] When my affairs were mentioned and I was not aware of it, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and gave a sermon about me. He praised and thanked Allah (glory be to Him) for what He has bestowed upon me, then he said, "As for what comes after, inform the people that they have slandered my family and, by Allah, I have never known anything bad about them. They built my family and, by Allah, I have never known anything bad about them, nor has anyone ever entered my house without my presence. I have never been absent during any journey without them being with me." Then Sa'd bin Mu'adh stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, shall we strike their necks?" A man from the Bani Khazraj stood up, and Umm Hassaan bin Thabit, who was the wife of that man, said, "You lie! By Allah, if they were from the Aws, you would not want to strike their necks until there was fighting between the Aws and the Khazraj within the Masjid, and I do not know anything about them." When it was evening that day, I went out for some need, and Umm Misbah was with me. She stumbled, and she said, "May Misbah be ruined!" I said, "Why do you curse your son?" She remained silent. Then she stumbled again and said, "May Misbah be ruined!" I said, "Why do you curse your son?" Then she stumbled a third time and said, "May Misbah be ruined!" I scolded her and said, "Why do you curse your son?" She said, "By Allah, I only curse him because of you." I asked, "In what matter concerning me?" Then she informed me about the story. I said, "Did my father know about it?" She said, "Yes." I asked, "And the Messenger of Allah?" She said, "And the Messenger of Allah." I became overwhelmed and started crying. Abu Bakr heard my voice while he was on the roof reciting the Qur'an. He came down and said to my mother, "What's wrong with her?" She told him what had happened. He said, "I swear to you, O daughter, that if you had not returned to your house, I would have divorced her." So I went back to my house and my parents were with me. They stayed with me until after Asr prayer. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me. My parents were on my right and left side. The Prophet ﷺ said the Shahada (testimony of faith) and praised and thanked Allah (glory be to Him) for what He has bestowed upon him. Then he said, "O Aisha, if you have committed a mistake or wronged, repent to Allah (glory be to Him). Verily, Allah (glory be to Him) accepts repentance from His servants." Then a woman from the Ansar came and sat at the door. I said to myself, "Doesn't she have any shame?"  

أحمد:٢٤٣١٧حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

لَمَّا ذُكِرَ مِنْ شَأْنِي الَّذِي ذُكِرَ وَمَا عَلِمْتُ بِهِ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِيَّ خَطِيبًا وَمَا عَلِمْتُ بِهِ فَتَشَهَّدَ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ ﷻ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ بِمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَمَّا بَعْدُأَشِيرُوا عَلَيَّ فِي نَاسٍ أَبَنُوا أَهْلِي وَايْمُ اللهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ عَلَى أَهْلِي سُوءًا قَطُّ وَأَبَنُوهُمْ بِمَنْ وَاللهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ سُوءٍ قَطُّ وَلَا دَخَلَ بَيْتِي قَطُّ إِلَّا وَأَنَا حَاضِرٌ وَلَا غِبْتُ فِي سَفَرٍ إِلَّا غَابَ مَعِي؟ فَقَامَ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ فَقَالَ نَرَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنْ تَضْرِبَ أَعْنَاقَهُمْ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ بلْخَزْرَج وَكَانَتْ أُمُّ حَسَّانَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ مِنْ رَهْطِ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلِ فَقَالَ كَذَبْتَ أَمَا وَاللهِ لَوْ كَانُوا مِنَ الْأَوْسِ مَا أَحْبَبْتَ أَنْ تَضْرِبَ أَعْنَاقَهُمْ حَتَّى كَادُوا أَنْ يَكُونَ بَيْنَ الْأَوْسِ وَالْخَزْرَجِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ شَرٌّ وَمَا عَلِمْتُ بِهِ فَلَمَّا كَانَ مَسَاءُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ خَرَجْتُ لِبَعْضِ حَاجَتِي وَمَعِي أُمُّ مِسْطَحٍ فَعَثَرَتْ فَقَالَتْ تَعِسَ مِسْطَحٌ فَقُلْتُ عَلَامَ تَسُبِّينَ ابْنَكِ؟ فَسَكَتَتْ ثُمَّ عَثَرَتِ الثَّانِيَةَ فَقَالَتْ تَعِسَ مِسْطَحٌ فَقُلْتُ عَلَامَ تَسُبِّينَ ابْنَكِ؟ ثُمَّ عَثَرَتِ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَتْ تَعِسَ مِسْطَحٌ فَانْتَهَرْتُهَا فَقُلْتُ عَلَامَ تَسُبِّينَ ابْنَكِ؟ فَقَالَتْ وَاللهِ مَا أَسُبُّهُ إِلَّا فِيكِ فَقُلْتُ فِي أَيِّ شَأْنِي؟ فَذَكَرَتْ لِي الْحَدِيثَفَقُلْتُ وَقَدْ كَانَ هَذَا؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ وَاللهِ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى بَيْتِي لَكَأَنَّ الَّذِي خَرَجْتُ لَهُ لَمْ أَخْرُجْ لَهُ لَا أَجِدُ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا وَلَا كَثِيرًا وَوَعَكْتُ فَقُلْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَرْسِلْنِي إِلَى بَيْتِ أَبِي فَأَرْسَلَ مَعِي الْغُلَامَ فَدَخَلْتُ الدَّارَ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِأُمِّ رُومَانَ فَقَالَتْ مَا جَاءَ بِكِ يَا بُنَيَّةُ؟ فَأَخْبَرْتُهَا فَقَالَتْ خَفِّضِي عَلَيْكِ الشَّأْنَ فَإِنَّهُ وَاللهِ لَقَلَّمَا كَانَتْ امْرَأَةٌ جَمِيلَةٌ تَكُونُ عِنْدَ رَجُلٍ يُحِبُّهَا وَلَهَا ضَرَائِرُ إِلَّا حَسَدْنَهَا وَقُلْنَ فِيهَا قُلْتُ وَقَدْ عَلِمَ بِهِ أَبِي؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَتْ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَاسْتَعْبَرْتُ فَبَكَيْتُ فَسَمِعَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ صَوْتِي وَهُوَ فَوْقَ الْبَيْتِ يَقْرَأُ فَنَزَلَ فَقَالَ لِأُمِّي مَا شَأْنُهَا؟ قَالَتْ بَلَغَهَا الَّذِي ذُكِرَ مِنْ أَمْرِهَا فَفَاضَتْ عَيْنَاهُ فَقَالَ أَقْسَمْتُ عَلَيْكِ يَا بُنَيَّةُ إِلَّا رَجَعْتِ إِلَى بَيْتِكِ فَرَجَعْتُ وَأَصْبَحَ أَبَوَايَ عِنْدِي فَلَمْ يَزَالَا عِنْدِي حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ وَقَدِ اكْتَنَفَنِي أَبَوَايَ عَنْ يَمِينِي وَعَنْ شِمَالِي فَتَشَهَّدَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ بِمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَمَّا بَعْدُ يَا عَائِشَةُ إِنْ كُنْتِ قَارَفْتِ سُوءً أَوْ ظَلَمْتِ تُوبِي إِلَى اللهِ ﷻ فَإِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ يَقْبَلُ التَّوْبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِهِ وَقَدْ جَاءَتْ امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَهِيَ جَالِسَةٌ بِالْبَابِ فَقُلْتُ أَلَا تَسْتَحِي

[Machine] "And about some of the companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him, it is narrated: When the angels came out from Ibrahim, peace be upon him, towards the city of Lut and reached the river of Sodom, they met the daughter of Lut, who was fetching water for her family. Lut's daughters were two in number. They said to her, 'O girl, is there any house nearby? She replied, 'Yes, your place is not far, but do not enter until I bring you what you need.' Then she went to her father and said, 'O my father, there are young men standing at the gate of the city. I have never seen such beautiful faces before. Your people should not see them, as they may harm them. Your people have been forbidden from hosting anyone until they said, 'Give us your guests so that we can harass them.' Nobody here, except the household of Lut, knows where they are. His wife went out and informed her people, saying, 'Indeed, there are men inside Lut's house whose faces I have never seen before.' So, Lut's people hurried towards him. When they came to him, he said, 'O my people, fear Allah and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you a single reasonable man? These are my daughters, they are purer for you. So, fear Allah and do not humiliate me in front of my guests.' They said, 'You know that we have no right in your daughters, and indeed, you know what we want.' When they failed to persuade him, he said, 'If only I had power against you or could take refuge in a strong support.' Then Jibril extended his wings, covering the sight of their eyes, and they went out stumbling, unable to see one another. They were saying, 'This is their plan. Verily, in the house of Lut, there is magic.' This is the saying of Allah, the Almighty, 'And indeed, they sought to tempt him away from his guests, but We blinded their eyes.' And they said, 'O Lut, indeed, we are messengers of your Lord. They will never reach you, so travel with your family in the cover of the night, and let not any among you look back except your wife. Indeed, she will be struck by what strikes them. So, proceed as you are commanded.' Then Allah led them to safety towards the land of Shaam. Lut said, 'Destroying them will take only a moment.' They replied, 'We have not been commanded to destroy them except at the break of dawn. Is not the morning near?' When morning came, Lut and his family left, except for his wife. This is the saying of Allah, the Almighty, 'Except the family of Lut; We will save them all, except his wife, who will be among those who remain.'

وَعَنْ أُنَاسٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مَرْفُوعًا قَالَ لَمَّا خَرَجَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ مِنْ عِنْدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ نَحْوَ قَرْيَةِ لُوطٍ وَأَتَوْهَا نِصْفَ النَّهَارِ فَلَمَّا بَلَغُوا نَهَرَ سَدُومٍ لَقَوُا ابْنَةَ لُوطٍ تَسْتَقِي مِنَ الْمَاءِ لِأَهْلِهَا وَكَانَ لَهُ ابْنَتَانِ فَقَالُوا لَهَا يَا جَارِيَةُ هَلْ مِنْ مَنْزِلٍ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ مَكَانَكُمْ لَا تَدْخُلُوا حَتَّى آتِيَكُمْ فَأَتَتْ أَبَاهَا فَقَالَتْ يَا أَبَتَاهُ أَدْرِكْ فِتْيَانًا عَلَى بَابِ الْمَدِينَةِ مَا رَأَيْتُ وُجُوهَ قَوْمٍ هِيَ أَحْسَنُ مِنْهُمْ لَا يَأْخُذُهُمْ قَوْمُكَ فَيَفْضَحُوهُمْ وَقَدْ كَانَ قَوْمُهُ نَهَوْهُ أَنْ يُضِيفَ رَجُلًا حَتَّى قَالُوا حَلَّ عَلَيْنَا فَلْيُضَيِّفِ الرِّجَالَ فَجَاءَهُمْ وَلَمْ يُعْلِمْ أَحَدًا إِلَّا بَيْتَ أَهْلِ لُوطٍ فَخَرَجَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ فَأَخْبَرَتْ قَوْمَهُ قَالَتْ إِنَّ فِي بَيْتِ لُوطٍ رِجَالًا مَا رَأَيْتُ مِثْلَ وُجُوهِهِمْ قَطُّ فَجَاءَهُ قَوْمُهُ يُهْرَعُونَ إِلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا أَتَوْهُ قَالَ لَهُمْ لُوطٌ «يَا قَوْمِ اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ فِي ضَيْفِي أَلَيْسَ مِنْكُمْ رَجُلٌ رُشَيْدٌ هَؤُلَاءِ بَنَاتِي هُنَّ أَطْهُرُ لَكُمْ مِمَّا تُرِيدُونَ» قَالُوا لَهُ أَوَ لَمْ نَنْهَكَ إِنْ تُضَيِّفَ الرِّجَالَ قَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ مَا لَنَا فِي بَنَاتِكَ مِنْ حَقٍّ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَعْلَمُ مَا نُرِيدُ فَلَمَّا لَمْ يَقْبَلُوا مِنْهُ مَا عَرَضَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ قَالَ «لَوْ أَنَّ لِيَ بِكُمْ قُوَّةً أَوْ آوِي إِلَى رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ» يَقُولُ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ «لَوْ أَنَّ لِي أَنْصَارًا يَنْصُرُونِي عَلَيْكُمْ أَوْ عَشِيرَةً تَمْنَعُنِي مِنْكُمْ لَحَالَتْ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ مَا جِئْتُمْ تُرِيدُونَهُ مِنْ أَضْيَافِي» وَلَمَّا قَالَ لُوطٌ لَوْ أَنَّ لِيَ بِكُمْ قُوَّةً أَوْ آوِي إِلَى رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ بَسَطَ حِينَئِذٍ جِبْرِيلُ جَنَاحَيْهِ فَفَقَأَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَخَرَجُوا يَدُوسُ بَعْضُهُمْ فِي آثَارِ بَعْضٍ عُمْيَانًا يَقُولُونَ النَّجَا النَّجَا فَإِنَّ فِي بَيْتِ لُوطٍ أَسْحَرَ قَوْمٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ ﷻ {وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدُوهُ عَنْ ضَيْفِهِ فَطَمَسْنَا أَعْيُنَهُمْ} [القمر 37] وَقَالُوا يَا لُوطُ إِنَّا رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَنْ يَصِلُوا إِلَيْكَ فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطِعٍ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا امْرَأَتُكَ فَاتَّبِعْ آثَارَ أَهْلِكَ يَقُولُ «وَامْضُوا حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ فَأَخْرَجَهُمُ اللَّهُ إِلَى الشَّامِ» وَقَالَ لُوطٌ أَهْلِكُوهُمُ السَّاعَةَ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا لَمْ نُؤْمَرْ إِلَّا بِالصُّبْحِ أَلَيْسَ الصُّبْحُ بِقَرِيبٍ فَلَمَّا أَنْ كَانَ السَّحَرُ خَرَجَ لُوطٌ وَأَهْلُهُ عَدَا امْرَأَتِهِ فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ ﷻ {إِلَّا آلَ لُوطٍ نَجَّيْنَاهُمْ بِسَحَرٍ} [القمر 34]

[Machine] Zainab bint Rasul Allah (pbuh) said, as I was preparing in Mecca to go to my father, Hind bint Utbah ibn Rabiah followed me. She said, "O daughter of Muhammad, did it not reach me that you intend to leave with your father?" I said, "I did not intend that." She said, "O cousin's daughter, do not do that. If you have any needs for supplies for your journey and want me to deliver them to your father, I will do it because I have a need from you." Zainab said, "By Allah, I did not see it except for her to do so." She said, "But I was afraid of her, so I denied that I intended it and I prepared myself. When I finished my preparations, my brother-in-law Kananah ibn al-Rabi'a came and he brought a camel for me. I rode on it, and he took his bow and his spear and led me out in broad daylight while I was in my litter. The men of Quraysh spoke about it and went out in search of her until they caught up with her at Dhu Tuwa. The first one to reach her was Hubbab ibn al-Aswad ibn al-Muttalib ibn Asad ibn Abdul-Uzza, and Nafi' ibn Abd Qais al-Fihri, a relative of the Banu Abi 'Ubayd, from Iffriqiyyah. Hubbab intimidated them with his spear while she was in her litter, and the woman was pregnant as they claimed. When she was on the verge of giving birth, I exposed her belly, so her father-in-law blessed it and his spear fell. He said, "No man comes near me except that I will strike him with an arrow." The people hesitated about him, and Abu Sufyan of the Quraysh came to him in a delegation, saying, "O man, cease your actions against us until we converse with you." Then Abu Sufyan approached him until he stood in front of him and said, "Indeed, you did not achieve what you wanted. You left with the woman in public, and our misfortune and calamity are known. Muhammad (pbuh) has not come to us thinking that we have humiliated ourselves for our misfortune. It is weakness and despair for us. By my life, we are not withholding her from her father out of necessity, but return with the woman until the voices settle and people say that we have returned her, then secretly guide her back to her father." He did as he was told, and he returned and stayed for several nights until the voices settled. Then he took her out at night and handed her over to Zaid ibn Harithah and his companion. They brought her to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh).

عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ بَيْنَمَا أَنَا أَتَجَهَّزُ بِمَكَّةَ إِلَى أَبِي تَبِعَتْنِي هِنْدُ بِنْتُ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ فَقَالَتْ يَا بِنْتَ مُحَمَّدٍ أَلَمْ يَبْلُغْنِي أَنَّكِ تُرِيدِينَ اللُّحُوقَ بِأَبِيكِ؟ قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ مَا أَرَدْتُ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَتْ أَيِ ابْنَةَ عَمٍّ لَا تَفْعَلِي إِنْ كَانَتْ لَكَ حَاجَةٌ فِي مَتَاعٍ مِمَّا يُرْفَقُ بِكِ فِي سَفَرِكِ وَتَبْلُغِينَ بِهِ إِلَى أَبِيكَ فَإِنَّ عِنْدِي حَاجَتَكِ قَالَتْ زَيْنَبُ «وَاللَّهِ مَا أُرَاهَا قَالَتْ ذَلِكَ إِلَّا لِتَفْعَلَ» قَالَتْ وَلَكِنْ خِفْتُهَا فَأَنْكَرْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ أُرِيدُ ذَلِكَ فَتَجَهَّزْتُ فَلَمَّا فَرَغْتُ مِنْ جَهَازِي قَدِمَ حَمْوِي كِنَانَةُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ أَخُو زَوْجِي فَقَدَّمَ لِي بَعِيرًا فَرَكِبْتُهُ وَأَخَذَ قَوْسَهُ وكِنَانَتَهُ فَخَرَجَ بِي نَهَارًا يَقُودُهَا وَهِيَ فِي هَوْدَجٍ لَهَا فَتَحَدَّثَ بِذَلِكَ رِجَالُ قُرَيْشٍ فَخَرَجُوا فِي طَلَبِهَا حَتَّى أَدْرَكُوهَا بِذِي طُوًى فَكَانَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ سَبَقَ إِلَيْهَا هَبَّارُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ أَسَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى وَنَافِعُ بْنُ عَبْدِ قَيْسٍ الْفِهْرِيُّ لَقَرَابَةٍ مِنْ بَنِي أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ بِإِفْرِيقِيَّةَ يُرَوِّعُهَا هَبَّارٌ بِالرُّمْحِ وَهِيَ فِي هَوْدَجِهَا وَكَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ حَامِلًا فِيمَا يَزْعُمُونَ فَلَمَّا رِيعَتْ طَرَحْتُ ذَا بَطْنِهَا فَبَرَكَ حَمْوُهَا وَنَثَلَ كِنَانَتَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَا يَدْنُو مِنِّي رَجُلٌ إِلَّا وَضَعْتُ فِيهِ سَهْمًا فَتَلَكَّأَ النَّاسُ عَنْهُ وَأَتَى أَبُو سُفْيَانَ فِي جِلَّةٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فَقَالَ أَيُّهَا الرَّجُلُ كُفَّ عَنَّا نَبْلَكَ حَتَّى نُكَلِّمَكَ فَكَفَّ فَأَقْبَلَ أَبُو سُفْيَانَ حَتَّى وَقَفَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ إِنَّكَ لَمْ تُصِبْ خَرَجْتَ بِالْمَرْأَةِ عَلَى رُءُوسِ النَّاسِ عَلَانِيَةً وَقَدْ عَرَفْتَ مُصِيبَتَنَا وَنَكْبَتَنَا وَمَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ فَيَظُنُّ النَّاسُ وَقَدْ أُخْرِجَ بِابْنَتِهِ إِلَيْهِ عَلَانِيَةً عَلَى رُءُوسِ النَّاسِ مِنْ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِنَا أَنَّ ذَلِكَ عَنْ ذُلٍّ أَصَابَتْنَا عَنْ مُصِيبَتِنَا الَّتِي كَانَتْ وَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ ضَعْفٌ بِنَا وَوَهَنٌ وَلَعَمْرِي مَا لَنَا بَحَبْسِهَا عَنْ أَبِيهَا حَاجَةٌ وَلَكِنِ ارْجِعْ بِالْمَرْأَةِ حَتَّى إِذَا هَدَأَ الصَّوْتُ وَتَحَدَّثَ النَّاسُ أَنَّا قَدْ رَدَدْنَاهَا فَسِرْ بِهَا سِرًّا فَأَلْحِقْهَا بِأَبِيهَا قَالَ فَفَعَلَ فَرَجَعَ فَأَقَامَتْ لَيَالِيًا حَتَّى إِذَا هَدَأَ الصَّوْتُ خَرَجَ بِهَا لَيْلًا حَتَّى سَلَّمَهَا إِلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ وَصَاحِبِهِ فَقَدِمَا بِهَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ  

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ فِيهِ إِرْسَالٌ بَيْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَزَيْنَبَ وَلَوْلَاهُ لَحَكَمْتُ عَلَى شَرْطِ مُسْلِمٍ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ بِإِسْنَادٍ صَحِيحٍ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ مُخْتَصَرًا حذفه الذهبي من التلخيص

[Machine] He informed him that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left Mecca as a migrant to Medina, the Quraysh tribe made a reward of one hundred camels for whoever returned him. He said, "While I was sitting in my tribe's assembly, a man from us came and said, 'By Allah, I saw three individuals pass by hurriedly, and I think one of them is Muhammad.' I gestured to him to be silent and said, 'They are from the Banu Fulan, following some stray camels.' He said, 'Perhaps.' Then he fell silent. I stayed for a while and then got up and ordered my horse to be tied to the bottom of the valley. I removed my weapon from behind my room and put on my armor. Then I took my spear, which I use for oaths, and wore it. I called my people and said, 'The one I dislike has come out, but it will not harm him.' I hoped to capture him and take the one hundred camels. I rode on their trail, but as my horse picked up its pace, it stumbled and I fell off. I took out my spear and made an oath. The arrow that I dislike came out, so I was determined to follow him. I mounted my horse and when the people appeared before me, my horse stumbled again and his hands fell to the ground. I fell and he picked up his hands, which emitted smoke, like ashes. I realized that he had been prevented from me and that he was apparent. I called to them and said, 'Look at me, and by Allah, I do not suspect you or dislike anything in you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Tell me, what do you seek?' I said, 'Write for me a document between me and you, as a sign.' He said, 'Write, O Abu Bakr.' So he wrote it for me and handed it to me. I returned and remained silent, not mentioning anything that happened until Allah granted victory to His Messenger in Mecca and after the conquest of Hunayn. I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the document he wrote for me. While I was going towards him, I passed by a group of Ansar soldiers. They shook their spears and said, 'To you, to you!' When I approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on his camel, I looked at his legs tied to the saddle, and it seemed as if they were burning. I pushed my hand forward with the document and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, this is your document.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'On a day of fulfillment and good deeds, approach.'" So I converted.

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ لَمَّا خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ مَكَّةَ مُهَاجِرًا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ جَعَلَتْ قُرَيْشٌ لِمَنْ رَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ مِائَةَ نَاقَةٍ قَالَ فَبَيْنَمَا أَنَا جَالِسٌ فِي نَادِي قَوْمِي جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا فَقَالَ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَكَبَةً ثَلَاثَةً مَرُّوا عَلَيَّ آنِفًا إِنِّي لَأَظُنُّهُ مُحَمَّدًا قَالَ فَأَوْمَأَتُ إِلَيْهِ أَنِ اسْكُتْ وَقُلْتُ إِنَّمَا هُمْ بَنُو فُلَانٍ يَتَّبِعُونَ ضَالَّةً لَهُمْ قَالَ لَعَلَّهُ ثُمَّ سَكَتَ فَمَكَثْتُ قَلِيلًا وَقُمْتُ فَأَمَرْتُ بِفَرَسِي فَقِيدَ إِلَى بَطْنِ الْوَادِي فَأَخْرَجَتُ سِلَاحِي مِنْ وَرَاءِ حُجْرَتِي ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُ قِدَاحِي الَّتِي أَسْتَقْسِمُ بِهَا ثُمَّ لَبِسْتُ لَأْمَتِي ثُمَّ أَخْرَجْتُ قِدَاحِي فَاسْتَقْسَمْتُ بِهَا وَقَالَ فَخَرَجَ الَّذِي أَكْرَهُ لَا يَضُرُّهُ وَكُنْتُ أَرْجُو أَنْ أَرُدَّهُ فَآخُذَ الْمِائَةَ النَّاقَةَ فَرَكِبْتُ عَلَى أَثَرِهِمْ فَبَيْنَمَا فَرَسِي يَشْتَدُّ بِي عَثَرَ فَسَقَطْتُ عَنْهُ فَأَخْرَجَتُ قِدَاحِي فَاسْتَقْسَمْتُ فَخَرَجَ السَّهْمُ الَّذِي أَكْرَهُ لَا يَضُرُّهُ فَأَبَيْتُ إِلَّا أَنْ أَتَّبِعَهُ فَرَكِبْتُهُ فَلَمَّا بَدَا لِيَ الْقَوْمُ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِمْ عَثَرَ بِي فَرَسِي وَذَهَبَتْ يَدَاهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَسَقَطْتُ فَاسْتَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ وَأَتْبَعَهَا دُخَانٌ مِثْلُ الْعُثَانِ فَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ مُنِعَ مِنِّي وَأَنَّهُ ظَاهِرٌ فَنَادَيْتُهُمْ فَقُلْتُ أَنْظِرُونِي فَوَاللهِ إِنِّي لَا أَرِيبُكُمْ وَلَا يَبْدَؤُكُمْ مِنِّي شَيْءٌ تَكْرَهُونَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قُلْ لَهُ مَاذَا يَبْتَغِي؟ فَقُلْتُ اكْتُبْ لِي كِتَابًا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ آيَةً قَالَ «اكْتُبْ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ» قَالَ فَكَتَبَ لِي ثُمَّ أَلْقَاهَا إِلَيَّ فَرَجَعْتُ فَسَكَتُّ فَلَمْ أَذْكُرْ شَيْئًا مِمَّا كَانَ حَتَّى إِذَا فَتَحَ اللهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ مَكَّةَ وَفَرَغَ مِنْ أَهْلِ حُنَيْنٍ خَرَجْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَعِيَ الْكِتَابُ الَّذِي كَتَبَ لِي قَالَ فَبَيْنَمَا أَنَا عَامِدٌ لَهُ دَخَلْتُ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَيْ كَتِيبَةٍ مِنْ كَتَائِبِ الْأَنْصَارِ فَطَفِقُوا يَقْرَعُونِي بِالرِّمَاحِ وَيَقُولُونَ إِلَيْكَ إِلَيْكَ حَتَّى إِذَا دَنَوْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى نَاقَتِهِ أَنْظُرُ إِلَى سَاقَيْهِ فِي غَرْزِهِ كَأَنَّهَا جُمَّارَةٌ فَدَفَعْتُ يَدِي بِالْكِتَابِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا كِتَابُكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَوْمُ وَفَاءٍ وَبِرٍّ ادْنُهْ» فَأَسْلَمْتُ

He said, while I was sitting in my tribe's gathering, a man from us came and said, "By Allah, I saw three riders pass by me and I suspect that it was Muhammad." I motioned to him to be quiet and said, "They are surely the sons of so-and-so following a lost camel of theirs." He said, "Maybe." Then he remained silent for a while and I got up and commanded my horse to be tied to the bottom of the valley. I took my weapons from behind my room, then I wore it for my people. Then I took my weapons out and wore it, and he said, "The arrow that I hate, will never harm him." I did not want to leave him, so I commanded my horse and I followed their tracks. As they appeared to me, my horse stumbled and I fell off it. I got out my weapons and wore it again, and the arrow that I hated came out unharmed. I shouted to them and said, "Look at me, by Allah, I do not doubt you, and there is nothing from me that you despise." The Messenger of Allah said to him, "Tell him what he wants." So I said, "Write me a document between you and me." He said, "Write, O Abu Bakr." So he wrote it for me and threw it to me. Then I returned and remained silent and did not mention anything of what had happened until when Allah opened Mecca for his Messenger and finished with Hunain, I went out to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I had with me the book that he wrote for me. He said, while I was walking him, I entered between a group of Ansar's groups, and they shook me with their spears and said, "To you, to you." Until when I approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on his camel, I looked at his legs and saw them tied as if they were shackles, so I pushed my hand with the book and said, "O Messenger of Allah, this is your book." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "On the day of loyalty and righteousness." So I embraced Islam.  

الطبراني:٦٦٠٢bحَدَّثَنَا مَسْعَدَةُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْعَطَّارُ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الْحِزَامِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُلَيْحٍ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ جُعْشُمٍ الْمُدْلِجِيُّ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ مَالِكًا أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَخَاهُ سُرَاقَةَ بْنَ مَالِكِ بْنِ جُعْشُمٍ

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ لَمَّا خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ مَكَّةَ مُهَاجِرًا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ جَعَلَتْ قُرَيْشٌ لِمَنْ رَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ مِائَةَ نَاقَةٍ قَالَ فَبَيْنَمَا أَنَا جَالِسٌ فِي نَادِي قَوْمِي جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا فَقَالَ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَكَبَةً ثَلَاثَةً مَرُّوا عَلَيَّ آنِفًا إِنِّي لَأَظُنُّهُ مُحَمَّدًا قَالَ فَأَوْمَأَتُ إِلَيْهِ أَنِ اسْكُتْ وَقُلْتُ إِنَّمَا هُمْ بَنُو فُلَانٍ يَتَّبِعُونَ ضَالَّةً لَهُمْ قَالَ لَعَلَّهُ ثُمَّ سَكَتَ فَمَكَثْتُ قَلِيلًا وَقُمْتُ فَأَمَرْتُ بِفَرَسِي فَقِيدَ إِلَى بَطْنِ الْوَادِي فَأَخْرَجَتُ سِلَاحِي مِنْ وَرَاءِ حُجْرَتِي ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُ قِدَاحِي الَّتِي أَسْتَقْسِمُ بِهَا ثُمَّ لَبِسْتُ لَأْمَتِي ثُمَّ أَخْرَجْتُ قِدَاحِي فَاسْتَقْسَمْتُ بِهَا وَقَالَ فَخَرَجَ الَّذِي أَكْرَهُ لَا يَضُرُّهُ وَكُنْتُ أَرْجُو أَنْ أَرُدَّهُ فَآخُذَ الْمِائَةَ النَّاقَةَ فَرَكِبْتُ عَلَى أَثَرِهِمْ فَبَيْنَمَا فَرَسِي يَشْتَدُّ بِي عَثَرَ فَسَقَطْتُ عَنْهُ فَأَخْرَجَتُ قِدَاحِي فَاسْتَقْسَمْتُ فَخَرَجَ السَّهْمُ الَّذِي أَكْرَهُ لَا يَضُرُّهُ فَأَبَيْتُ إِلَّا أَنْ أَتَّبِعَهُ فَرَكِبْتُهُ فَلَمَّا بَدَا لِيَ الْقَوْمُ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِمْ عَثَرَ بِي فَرَسِي وَذَهَبَتْ يَدَاهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَسَقَطْتُ فَاسْتَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ وَأَتْبَعَهَا دُخَانٌ مِثْلُ الْعُثَانِ فَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ مُنِعَ مِنِّي وَأَنَّهُ ظَاهِرٌ فَنَادَيْتُهُمْ فَقُلْتُ أَنْظِرُونِي فَوَاللهِ إِنِّي لَا أَرِيبُكُمْ وَلَا يَبْدَؤُكُمْ مِنِّي شَيْءٌ تَكْرَهُونَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قُلْ لَهُ مَاذَا يَبْتَغِي؟ فَقُلْتُ اكْتُبْ لِي كِتَابًا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ آيَةً قَالَ «اكْتُبْ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ» قَالَ فَكَتَبَ لِي ثُمَّ أَلْقَاهَا إِلَيَّ فَرَجَعْتُ فَسَكَتُّ فَلَمْ أَذْكُرْ شَيْئًا مِمَّا كَانَ حَتَّى إِذَا فَتَحَ اللهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ مَكَّةَ وَفَرَغَ مِنْ أَهْلِ حُنَيْنٍ خَرَجْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَعِيَ الْكِتَابُ الَّذِي كَتَبَ لِي قَالَ فَبَيْنَمَا أَنَا عَامِدٌ لَهُ دَخَلْتُ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَيْ كَتِيبَةٍ مِنْ كَتَائِبِ الْأَنْصَارِ فَطَفِقُوا يَقْرَعُونِي بِالرِّمَاحِ وَيَقُولُونَ إِلَيْكَ إِلَيْكَ حَتَّى إِذَا دَنَوْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى نَاقَتِهِ أَنْظُرُ إِلَى سَاقَيْهِ فِي غَرْزِهِ كَأَنَّهَا جُمَّارَةٌ فَدَفَعْتُ يَدِي بِالْكِتَابِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا كِتَابُكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَوْمُ وَفَاءٍ وَبِرٍّ ادْنُهْ» فَأَسْلَمْتُ

[Machine] We were on a journey with the Prophet ﷺ, and we traveled throughout the night until we reached the end of the night before dawn. We had an encounter, and there is no better encounter for a traveler than it. We were only awakened by the heat of the sun, as it was the first time Bilal had awakened, followed by others. Umar ibn al-Khattab was the last to wake up. When the Prophet ﷺ slept, no one would wake him up until he woke up himself, because we did not know what would happen to him in his sleep. When Umar woke up and saw what had happened to the people, he became very upset and raised his voice in takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar). He continued to say takbeer and raise his voice until he woke up the Prophet ﷺ with his voice. The people complained to him about what had happened to them, and he said, "Do not worry, continue the journey." So we continued the journey, and soon after that, we stopped and the Prophet ﷺ called for wudu. He performed wudu and then the call to prayer was made, and he prayed with the people. He prolonged his prayer, and when a man wanted to leave, he did not pray with the people. The Prophet ﷺ asked him why he did not pray with the people, and he said it was because he had janabah (sexual impurity) and no water. The Prophet ﷺ told him to go to the nearby irrigated land (sa'id), as it would be sufficient for him. Then the people complained to him about thirst, so we stopped again and he called a man named Abu Raja' and called Ali. He told them to go and search for water, so they set off and met a woman with two water containers on a camel. They approached her and asked for water, and she said she had made a promise about the water until that time. They told her to go, and she asked where to go, and they said to the Prophet ﷺ. She asked if it was the one they called As-Saabi', and they confirmed. So she went with them to the Prophet ﷺ and told him what had happened. He called for a vessel and placed the water containers in it, then he rinsed his mouth and returned the water to the container, and then he repeated it with the water containers. Then he tied the mouths of the containers and let the water flow, and called out to the people to drink and quench their thirst. He gave the one who had janabah his portion and told him to pour the remaining water on himself. By Allah, she was still standing, watching what he was doing with her water. It seemed to us that they were even more amazed than she was. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Gather for her whatever is between a jar and a sa'iqa and a handful." So they gathered food for her in a garment and placed it in front of her. The Prophet ﷺ told her, "You know, by Allah, we did not take anything from your water, but it was Allah who provided it for us." She went to her people, who were waiting for her, and they asked her why she had been delayed. She said, "By Allah, I have never seen people like them before. Either they are sorcerers, or he is truly the messenger of Allah ﷺ." The Muslims would change places with those around her who were polytheists and would not be struck by the drought that followed. One day, she asked her people if they were interested in Islam, and they obediently went and all embraced Islam.

كُنَّا فِي سَفَرٍ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَسِرْنَا لَيْلَةً حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ فِي آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ قُبَيْلَ الصُّبْحِ وَقَعْنَا تِلْكَ الْوَقْعَةَ وَلَا وَقْعَةَ أَحْلَى عِنْدَ الْمُسَافِرِ مِنْهَا فَمَا أَيْقَظَنَا إِلَّا حُرُّ الشَّمْسِ فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ اسْتَيْقَظَ بِلَالٌ ثُمَّ فُلَانٌ وَفُلَانٌ وَسَمَّاهُمْ ثُمَّ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا نَامَ لَا يُوقِظُهُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ هُوَ الَّذِي يَسْتَيْقِظُ لَأَنَّا لَا نَدْرِي مَا يَحْدُثُ لَهُ فِي نَوْمِهِ فَلَمَّا اسْتَيْقَظَ عُمَرُ وَرَأَى مَا أَصَابَ النَّاسَ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا جَلِيدًا فَكَبَّرَ وَرَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ فَمَا زَالَ يُكَبِّرُ وَيَرْفَعُ صَوْتَهُ حَتَّى اسْتَيْقَظَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِصَوْتِهِ فَشَكَا إِلَيْهِ الْقَوْمُ مَا أَصَابَهُمْ قَالَ «لَا ضَيْرَ ارْتَحِلُوا» فَارْتَحَلَ فَسَارَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَدَعَا بِوَضُوءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ نُودِي بِالصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ وَانْفَتَلَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ وَإِذَا رَجُلٌ مُعْتَزِلٌ لَمْ يُصَلِّ مَعَ الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا مَنَعَكَ يَا فُلَانُ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ مَعَ الْقَوْمِ؟» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَصَابَتْنِي جَنَابَةٌ وَلَا مَاءَ قَالَ «عَلَيْكَ بِالصَّعِيدِ فَإِنَّهُ يَكْفِيكَ» ثُمَّ سَارَ فَاشْتَكَى النَّاسُ إِلَيْهِ الْعَطَشَ فَنَزَلَ فَدَعَا فُلَانًا قَدْ سَمَّاهُ أَبُو رَجَاءٍ فَدَعَا عَلِيًّا فَقَالَ لَهُمَا «اذْهَبَا فَابْغِيَا الْمَاءَ» فَانْطَلَقَا فَيَسْتَقْبِلانِ امْرَأَةً بَيْنَ سَطِيحَتَيْنِ أَوْ مَزَادَتَيْنِ مِنْ مَاءٍ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ لَهَا فَانْطَلَقَا فَقَالَا لَهَا الْمَاءُ فَقَالَتْ عَهْدِي بِهِ أَمْسُ هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ فَقَالَا لَهَا انْطَلِقِي إِذًا قَالَتْ إِلَى أَيْنَ؟ قَالَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ هَذَا الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ الصَّابِئُ؟ قَالَا هُوَ الَّذِي تَعْنِينَ فَانْطَلِقِي فَجَاءَا بِهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَحَدَّثَاهُ الْحَدِيثَ فَاسْتَنْزَلُوهَا مِنْ بَعِيرِهَا وَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِإِنَاءٍ فَجَعَلَ فِيهِ أَفْوَاهَ السَّطِيحَتَيْنِ أَوِ الْمَزَادَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ تَمَضْمَضَ فَأَعَادَهُ فِي الْإِنَاءِ ثُمَّ أَعَادَهُ فِي أَفْوَاهِ السَّطِيحَتَيْنِ أَوِ الْمَزَادَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ أَوْثَقَ أَفْوَاهَهُمَا وَأَطْلَقَ الْعَزَالِي وَنُودِيَ فِي النَّاسِ أَنِ اسْقُوا وَاسْتَقُوا فَسَقَى مَنْ شَاءَ وَاسْتَقَى مَنْ شَاءَ فَكَانَ آخِرُ ذَلِكَ أَنْ أَعْطَاهُ الَّذِي أَصَابَتْهُ الْجَنَابَةُ وَقَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَأَفْرِغْهُ عَلَيْكَ» وَهِيَ قَائِمَةٌ تَنْظُرُ إِلَى مَا يَفْعَلُ بِمَائِهَا وَايْمُ اللهِ لَقَدْ أَرْكَبَهَا حِينَ أَبْلَغَ وَإِنَّهُ لَيُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْنَا أَنَّهُمَا أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمَا مَلْأً فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اجْمَعُوا لَهَا مَا بَيْنَ عَجْوَةٍ وَسَوِيقَةٍ وَدَقِيقَةٍ» حَتَّى جَمَعُوا لَهَا طَعَامًا فِي ثَوْبٍ وَحَمَلُوهَا عَلَى بَعِيرِهَا وَوَضَعُوهَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «تَعْلَمِينَ وَاللهِ مَا رَزَأْنَاكِ فِي مَائِكِ شَيْئًا وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ سَقَانَا» فَأَتَتْ أَهْلَهَا وَقَدِ احْتَبَسَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالُوا يَا فُلَانَةُ مَا حَبَسَكِ؟ فَقَالَتِ الْعَجَبُ لَقِيَنِي رَجُلَانِ فَذَهَبَا بِي إِلَى هَذَا الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ الصَّابِئُ فَفَعَلَ كَذَا وَكَذَا الَّذِي كَانَ فَوَاللهِ إِنَّهُ لَأَسْحَرُ مِنْ بَيْنَ هَذِهِ وَهَذِهِ أَوْ إِنَّهُ لِرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَقًّا فَكَانَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ يُغِيْرُونَ عَلَى مَنْ حَوْلَهَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَلَا يُصِيبُونَ الصِّرْمَةَ الَّتِي تَلِيهَا فَقَالَتْ يَوْمًا لِقَوْمِهَا وَاللهِ مَا أَرَى هَؤُلَاءِ الْقَوْمَ يَدْعُونَنَا فَهَلْ لَكُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ؟ فَطَاوَعُوهَا فَجَاءَ وَقَدْ دَخَلُوا جَمِيعًا فِي الْإِسْلَامِ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "While three persons were walking, rain began to fall and they had to enter a cave in a mountain. A big rock rolled over and blocked the mouth of the cave. They said to each other, 'Invoke Allah with the best deed you have performed (so Allah might remove the rock)'. One of them said, 'O Allah! My parents were old and I used to go out for grazing (my animals). On my return I would milk (the animals) and take the milk in a vessel to my parents to drink. After they had drunk from it, I would give it to my children, family and wife. One day I was delayed and on my return I found my parents sleeping, and I disliked to wake them up. The children were crying at my feet (because of hunger). That state of affairs continued till it was dawn. O Allah! If You regard that I did it for Your sake, then please remove this rock so that we may see the sky.' So, the rock was moved a bit. The second said, 'O Allah! You know that I was in love with a cousin of mine, like the deepest love a man may have for a woman, and she told me that I would not get my desire fulfilled unless I paid her one-hundred Dinars (gold pieces). So, I struggled for it till I gathered the desired amount, and when I sat in between her legs, she told me to be afraid of Allah, and asked me not to deflower her except rightfully (by marriage). So, I got up and left her. O Allah! If You regard that I did if for Your sake, kindly remove this rock.' So, two-thirds of the rock was removed. Then the third man said, 'O Allah! No doubt You know that once I employed a worker for one Faraq (three Sa's) of millet, and when I wanted to pay him, he refused to take it, so I sowed it and from its yield I bought cows and a shepherd. After a time that man came and demanded his money. I said to him: Go to those cows and the shepherd and take them for they are for you. He asked me whether I was joking with him. I told him that I was not joking with him, and all that belonged to him. O Allah! If You regard that I did it sincerely for Your sake, then please remove the rock.' So, the rock was removed completely from the mouth of the cave." (Using translation from Bukhārī 2215)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ خَرَجَ ثَلَاثَةٌ يَمْشُونَ فَأَصَابَهُمُ الْمَطَرُ فَدَخَلُوا فِي غَارٍ فِي جَبَلٍ فَانْحَطَّتْ عَلَيْهِمْ صَخْرَةٌ قَالَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ادْعُوا اللهَ بِأَفْضَلِ عَمِلٍ عَمِلْتُمُوهُ فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمْ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي كَانَ لِي أَبَوَانِ شَيْخَانِ كَبِيرَانِ فَكُنْتُ أَخْرَجُ فَأَرْعَى ثُمَّ أَجِيءُ فَأَحْلُبُ فَأَجِيءُ بِالْحِلَابِ فَآتِي بِهِ أَبَوَايَ فَيَشْرَبَانِ ثُمَّ أَسْقِي الصِّبْيَةَ وَأَهْلِي وَامْرَأَتِي فَاحْتَبَسْتُ لَيْلَةً فَجِئْتُ فَإِذَا هُمَا نَائِمَانِ قَالَ فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُمَا وَالصِّبْيَةُ يَتَضَاغَوْنَ عِنْدَ رِجْلَي فَلَمْ يَزَلْ ذَلِكَ دَأْبِي وَدَأْبَهُمَا حَتَّى طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ اللهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا فُرْجَةً نَرَى مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ قَالَ فَفَرَّجَ عَنْهُمْ [398] وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ اللهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي كُنْتُ أَحَبُّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ بَنَاتِ عَمِّي كَأَشَدِّ مَا يُحِبُّ الرَّجُلُ النِّسَاءَ فَقَالَتْ لَا تَنَالُ ذَلِكَ مِنْهَا حَتَّى تُعْطِيهَا مَائَة دِينَارٍ فَسَعَيْتُ فِيهَا حَتَّى جَمَعْتُهَا فَلَمَّا قَعَدْتُ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهَا قَالَتْ اتَّقِ اللهَ وَلَا تَفُضَّ الْخَاتَمَ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهِ فَقُمْتُ وَتَرَكْتُهَا فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا فُرْجَةً قَالَ فَفَرَجْ عَنْهُمْ الثُّلُثَيْنِ وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ اللهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي اسْتَأْجَرْتُ أَجِيرًا بِفَرَقٍ مِنْ ذَرَّةٍ فَأَعْطَيْتُهُ وَأَبَى ذَاكَ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ فَعَمَدْتُ إِلَى ذَلِكَ الْفَرَقِ فَزَرَعْتُهُ حَتَّى اشْتَرَيْتُ مِنْهُ بَقَرًا وَرَاعِيَهَا ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ أَعْطِنِي حَقِّي فَقُلْتُ انْطَلَقْ إِلَى تِلْكَ الْبَقَرِ وَرَاعِيهَا فَإِنَّهَا لَكَ فَقَالَ أَتَسْتَهْزِئُ بِي؟ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ مَا أَسْتَهْزِئُ بِكَ وَلَكِنَّهَا لَكَ اللهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا فَكَشَفَ عَنْهُمْ

[Machine] "O Ibrahim, where are you going, leaving us in this valley that has no company or anything?" She said to him repeatedly, but he did not turn to her. She then asked him, "Did Allah command you to do this?" He said, "Yes." She said, "Then He will not let us perish." Then she returned, and Ibrahim set off facing the Kaaba, and he made the following supplication, raising his hands: "Indeed, I have settled my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred house, O Allah, [our Lord], that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits that they might be grateful." (Quran 14:37) Then Ismail's mother breastfed and nursed Ismail until the water in the water-skin was depleted, causing her and her son to thirst and hunger. She disliked looking at her child in that state. She then saw Mount Safa closest to her, so she ascended it and looked to see if anyone was there. When she saw no one, she descended and walked briskly until she reached the valley, raising the edges of her dress to protect herself. She did this seven times. Ibn Abbas said: The Prophet ﷺ said, "That is why the people run between them." When she descended from Mount Marwah, she heard a voice, so she said, "Stay here, if you will" and listened again. When she heard nothing, she said, "I have heard you. If you have any means of assistance, then help us." Then she heard the sound again. She said, "Indeed, I have [now] perceived that I am being pursued." She hurried to the mountain and upon reaching it, she looked to see if anyone was there, but she found no one. She did this seven times. Ibn Abbas said: The Prophet ﷺ said, "May Allah have mercy on the mother of Ismail; if she had left the water flowing, it would have been a flowing stream." So she drank from it and nursed her child. The angel said to her, "Do not fear of being lost, for there is a house of Allah that will be constructed by this boy and his father, and Allah will never abandon them." The house was at a higher elevation than the surrounding land, like a fixed and firm mountain. Streams flowed from it on both sides. They lived in this manner until a group or a tribe passed by and saw birds circling above a specific location. They said, "There must be water there, this is the site we have been searching for." They sent someone, and behold, there was indeed water. They informed Ismail's family about it, and they settled there. Ismail grew up and learned Arabic from them. He amazed them with his intelligence. When he reached marriageable age, they married him to a woman from their tribe. Ismail's mother passed away.

يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ أَيْنَ تَذْهَبُ وَتَتْرُكُنَا بِهَذَا الْوَادِي الَّذِي لَيْسَ بِهِ أَنِيسٌ وَلَا شَيْءٌ فَقَالَتْ لَهُ ذَلِكَ مِرَارًا وَجَعَلَ لَا يَلْتَفِتُ إِلَيْهَا فَقَالَتْ لَهُ آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ بِهَذَا؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» قَالَتْ إِذًا لَا يُضَيِّعُنَا ثُمَّ رَجَعَتْ فَانْطَلَقَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ اسْتَقْبَلَ بِوَجْهِهِ الْبَيْتَ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِهَؤُلَاءِ الدَّعَوَاتِ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ فَقَالَ {إِنِّي أَسْكَنْتُ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِي بِوَادٍ غَيْرِ ذِي زَرْعٍ عِنْدَ بَيْتِكَ الْمُحْرِمِ} [إبراهيم 37] إِلَى {لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْكُرُونَ} [إبراهيم 37] فَجَعَلَتْ أُمُّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ تُرْضِعُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَتَشْرَبُ ذَلِكَ الْمَاءَ حَتَّى إِذَا نَفِدَ مَا فِي ذَلِكَ السِّقَاءِ عَطِشَتْ وَعَطِشَ ابْنُهَا وَجَاعَ وَانْطَلَقَتْ كَرَاهِيَةَ أَنْ تَنْظُرَ إِلَيْهِ فَوَجَدَتِ الصَّفَا أَقْرَبَ جَبَلٍ يَلِيهَا فَقَامَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَاسْتَقْبَلَتِ الْوَادِيَ هَلْ تَرَى أَحَدًا؟ فَلَمْ تَرَ أَحَدًا فَهَبَطَتْ مِنَ الصَّفَا حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْوَادِيَ رَفَعَتْ طَرْفَ دَرْعِهَا ثُمَّ سَعَتْ سَعْيَ الْمُجْهِدِ ثُمَّ أَتَتِ الْمَرْوَةَ فَقَامَتْ عَلَيْهَا وَنَظَرَتْ هَلْ تَرَى أَحَدًا فَلَمْ تَرَ أَحَدًا فَعَلَتْ ذَلِكَ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «فَلِذَلِكَ سَعَى النَّاسُ بَيْنَهُمَا» [400] فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ عَنِ الْمَرْوَةِ سَمِعَتْ صَوْتًا فَقَالَتْ «صَهْ تُرِيدُ نَفْسَهَا ثُمَّ تَسَمَّعَتْ فَسَمِعَتْ أَيْضًا» قَالَتْ «قَدْ أَسْمَعْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَكَ غَوْثٌ فَإِذَا هِيَ بِالْمَلَكِ عِنْدَ مَوْضِعِ زَمْزَمَ يَبْحَثُ بِعَقِبِهِ أَوْ بِجَنَاحِهِ حَتَّى ظَهَرَ الْمَاءُ فَجَاءَتْ تُحَوِّضُهُ هَكَذَا وَتَقُولُ بِيَدِهَا وَجَعَلَتْ يَعْنِي تَغْرِفُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ فِي سِقَائِهَا وَهُوَ يَفُورُ بِقَدْرِ مَا تَغْرِفُ» قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «يَرْحَمُ اللهُ أُمَّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ لَوْ تَرَكَتْ زَمْزَمَ» أَوْ قَالَ «لَوْ لَمْ تَغْتَرِفْ مِنَ الْمَاءِ لَكَانَتْ عَيْنًا مَعِينًا» فَشَرِبَتْ وَأَرْضَعَتْ وَلَدَهَا فَقَالَ الْمَلَكُ لَا تَخَافِي الضَّيْعَةَ فَإِنَّ هَاهُنَا بَيْتَ اللهِ يَبْنِيهِ هَذَا الْغُلَامُ وَأَبُوهُ وَإِنَّ اللهَ لَا يُضَيِّعُ أَهْلَهُ وَكَانَ الْبَيْتُ مُرْتَفِعًا مِنَ الْأَرْضِ كَالرَّابِيَةِ تَأْتِيَهُ السُّيُولُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَشِمَالِهِ فَكَانُوا كَذَلِكَ حَتَّى مَرَّتْ رُفْقَةٌ أَوْ قَالَ بَيْتٌ مِنْ جُرْهُمَ مُقْبِلِينَ فَنَزَلُوا فِي أَسْفَلِ مَكَّةَ فَرَأَوْا طَائِرًا عَارِضًا فَقَالُوا «إِنَّ هَذَا الطَّائِرَ لَيَدُورُ عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَعَهْدُنَا بِهَذَا الْوَادِي وَمَا فِيهِ مَاءٌ فَأَرْسَلُوا فَإِذَا هُمْ بِالْمَاءِ فَرَجَعُوا فَأَخْبَرُوهُمْ بِالْمَاءِ وَأَمُّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عِنْدَ الْمَاءِ» فَقَالُوا أَتَأْذَنِينَ لَنَا أَنْ نَنْزِلَ عِنْدَكِ؟ قَالَتْ «نَعَمْ وَلَا حَقَّ لَكُمْ فِي الْمَاءِ» قَالَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللهُ ﷺ «فَأَلْفَى ذَلِكَ أُمَّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَهِيَ تُحِبُّ الْأُنْسَ فَنَزَلُوا وَأَرْسَلُوا إِلَى أَهَالِيهِمْ فَنَزَلُوا مَعَهُمْ وَشَبَّ الْغُلَامُ وَتَعَلَّمَ الْعَرَبِيَّةَ مِنْهُمْ وَأَعْجَبَهُمْ حِينَ شَبَّ فَلَمَّا أَدْرَكَ زَوَّجُوهُ امْرَأَةً مِنْهُمْ وَمَاتَتْ أُمُّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ»

"عن البراء بن عازب قال: "اشْتَرَى أبُو بَكْرٍ مِن عَازِبٍ سَرْجًا بِثَلاثَةَ عَشَرَ دِرْهَمًا، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لِعَازِبٍ: مُرِ الْبَرَاءَ فَيَحْمِلَهُ إِلَى مَنْزِلِى، فَقَالَ: لا؛ حَتَّى تُحَدِّثَنَا كَيْفَ صَنَعْتَ حِينَ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنْتَ مَعَهُ، فَقَالَ أبُو بَكْرٍ: خَرَجْنَا فَأدْلَجْنَا فَأَحْثَثْنَا يَوْمَنَا وَلَيْلَتَنَا حَتَّى أَظْهَرْنَا وَقَامَ قَائِمُ الظَّهِيرَةِ فَضَربْتُ بِبَصَرِى هَلْ أَرَى ظِلا نَأوِى إِلَيْهِ، فَإِذَا أَنَا بِصَخْرَةٍ، فَأَهْوَيْتُ إِلَيْهَا، فَإِذَا بَقِيَّةُ ظِلِّهَا فَسَوَّيْتُهُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَفَرَشْتُ لَهُ فَرْوَةً وَقُلْتُ: اضْطجِعْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَاضْطَجَعَ، ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ (أَنْظُرُ) (*) هَلْ أَرَى أَحَدًا مِنَ الطَّلَبِ، فَإِذَا أَنَا بَرَاعِى غَنَمٍ، فَقُلْتُ: لِمَنْ أَنْتَ يَا غُلامُ؟ فَقَالَ: لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ، فَسَمَّاهُ فَعَرَفْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ: فَهَلْ فِى غَنَمِكَ مِنْ لَبَنٍ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قُلْتُ: هَلْ أَنْتَ حَالبٌ لِي؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَأَمَرْتُهُ فَاعْتَقَلَ شَاةً مِنْهَا، ثُمَّ أَمَرْتُهُ فَنَفضَ ضِرْعَهَا مِنَ الْغُبَارِ، ثُمَّ أَمَرْتُهُ فَنَفَضَ كَفَّيْهِ مِنَ الْغُبَارِ وَمَعِى إِدَاوَةٌ عَلَى فَمِهَا خِرْقَةٌ فَحَلَبَ لِى كُثْبَةً مِنَ اللَّبَنِ، فَصَبَبْتُ - يَعْنِى الْمَاءَ - عَلَى الْقَدَحِ حَتَّى بَرَدَ أَسْفَلُهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَوَافَيْتُهُ وَقَدِ اسْتَيْقَظَ فَقُلْتُ: اشْرَبْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَشَرِبَ حَتَّى رَضِيتُ، ثُمَّ قُلتُ: هَلْ أتَى الرَّحِيل؟ فَارْتَحَلْنَا وَالْقَوْمُ يَطْلُبُونَنَا، فَلَمْ يُدْرِكْنَا أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ إِلا سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بن جُعْشُمٍ عَلَى فَرَسٍ لَهُ، فَقُلتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ! هَذَا الطَّلَبُ قَدْ لَحِقَنَا فَقَالَ: لا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ اللهَ مَعَنَا، حَتَّى إِذَا دَنَا مِنَّا فَكَانَ بَيْنَنَا (وبينة) (*) قَدْرُ رُمْحٍ اوْ رُمْحَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلاثَةٍ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ! هَذَا الطَّلَبُ قَدْ لَحِقَنَا، وَبَكَيْتُ، قَالَ: لِمَ تَبْكِى؟ فَقُلْتُ: أَمَا وَاللهِ عَلَى نَفْسِى مَا أَبْكِى، وَلَكِنِّى أَبْكِى عَلَيْكَ، فَدَعَا عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَ اكْفِنَاهُ بِمَا شِئْتَ، فَسَاخَتْ قَوَائِمُ فَرَسِهِ إِلَى بَطْنِهَا فِي أَرْضٍ صَلْدٍ وَوَثَبِ عَنْهَا، وَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ! قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ هَذَا عَمَلُكَ فَادْعُ اللهَ أَنْ يُنَجَّيَنِى مِمَّا أنَا فِيهِ، فَوَاللهِ لأُعَمِّيَنَّ عَلَى مَنْ وَرَائِى مِنَ الطَّلَبِ، وَهَذِهِ كِنَايَتِى فَخُذْ مِنْهَا سَهْمًا، فَإِنَّكَ سَتَمُرُّ بِإِبِلِى وَغَنَمِى فِى مَوْضِعِ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَخُذْ مِنْهَا حَاجَتكَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا حَاجَة لِى فِيهَا، وَدَعَا لَهُ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ فَأُطْلِقَ وَرَجَعَ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ، وَمَضى رَسُولُ

اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ لَيْلًا، فَتَلَقَّاهُ النَّاسُ، فَخَرَجُوا فِى الطَّريقِ وَعَلَى الأَحَاجِيرِ، وَاشتَدَّ الْخَدَمُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فِى الطَّرِيقِ (يَقُولَونَ) (*): اللهُ أَكْبَرُ، جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ : جَاءَ مُحَمَّدٌ، وَتَنَازَعَ الْقَوْمُ أَيُّهُمْ يَنْزِلُ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ أَنْزِلُ اللَّيْلَةَ عَلَى بَنِى النَّجَّارِ أَخْوَالِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ لأُكْرِمَهُمْ بِذَلِكَ، فَلَمَّا أصْبَحَ غَدَا حَيْثُ أُمِرَ".

"عَنْ سَلْمَانَ قَالَ: كُنْتُ فِى أَهْلى بَرَامَهُرْمُز، وكُنْتُ أَخْتَلِفُ إِلَى مُعَلِّمى الْكِتابِ، وَكَانَ فِى الطَّرِيق رَاهِبٌ، فَكُنْتُ إِذَا مَرَرْتُ جَلَسْتُ عِنْدَهُ فَيُخْبِرُنِى مِنْ خَبرِ السَّمَواتِ وَالأَرْضِ، وَنَحْو مِنْ ذَلِكَ، حَتَّى اشْتَغَلْتُ عَنْ كِتَابَتِى وَلَزمْتُهُ فَأَخْبَرَ أَهْلِى الْمُعَلِّمُ، وَقَالَ لَهُمْ: إِنَّ هَذَا الرَّاهِبَ قَدْ أَفْسَدَ ابْنَكُمْ فَأَخْرِجُوهُ، فَاسْتَخْفَيْتُ مِنْهُمْ، فَخَرَجْتُ مَعَهُ، حَتَّى جِئْنَا الْمَوْصِلَ فَوَجَدْنَا فِيها أَرْبَعِينَ رَاهِبًا، فَكَانَ بِهِمْ مِنَ التَّعْظِيم لِلرَّاهِب الَّذى جِئْتُ مَعَهُ شَىْءٌ عَظِيمٌ، فَمَكَثْتُ مَعَهُمْ أَشْهُرًا، فَمَرِضْتُ، فَقَالَ رَاهبٌ مَنْهُمْ: إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ

إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ فَأُصَلِّى فِيهِ، فَفَرِحْتُ بِذَلِكَ فَقُلْتُ: أَنَا مَعَكَ، فَخَرَجْنا فَما رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا كَانَ أَصْبَرَ عَلى مَشْى مِنْهُ، كَانَ يَمْشِى فَإِذَا رآنِى أَعْيَيْتُ، قَالَ: ارْقُد، وَقَامَ يُصَلِّى، فَكَانَ كَذَلِكَ، لَمْ يَطْعَمْ يَوْمًا، حَتَّى جِئْنا بَيْتَ الْمَقْدسِ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا بِهَا رَقَدَ، وَقَالَ لِى: إذا رَأَيْتَ الظِّلَّ هُنا فَأَيْقظْنِى، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ الظِّلُ ذَلِكَ الْمَكانَ، أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُ، ثُمَّ قُلْتُ: سَهِرَ وَلَمْ يَرْقُدْ، وَاللهِ لأَدعنَّهُ قَليلًا فَتَرَكْتُهُ سَاعَةً فَاسْتَيْقَظَ (*)، فَرَأَى الظِّلَّ قَدْ جَاوَزَ ذَلِكَ الْمَكانَ، فَقالَ: أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكَ أَنْ تُوقِظَنِى، قُلْتُ: كُنْتَ لَمْ تَنَمْ، فَأَحَبَبْتُ أَنْ أَدَعَكَ تَنَامُ قَليلًا، قالَ: إِنِّى لَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ يَأتِى عَلىَّ سَاعَةٌ إِلَّا وَأَنَا أَذْكُرُ اللهَ فِيهَا، ثُمَّ دَخَلْنَا بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ فَإِذَا سَائِلٌ مُقْعَدٌ يَسْأَلُ فَسَأَلَهُ، فَلَا أَدْرِى مَا قَالَ لَهُ، فَقالَ لَهُ الْمُقْعدُ: دَخَلْتَ وَلَمْ تُعْطِنِى شَيئًا (* *) قَالَ: هَلْ تُحبُّ أَنْ تَقُومَ، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَدَعا لَهُ، فَقَامَ، فَجَعَلْتُ أَتَعَجَّبُ وَأتَّبِعُهُ، فَسَهَوْتُ، فَذَهَبَ الرَّاهِبُ، ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ أَتَّبِعُهُ، وَأَسْأَلُ (* * *) عَنْهُ. فَلَقِيتُ رَكْبًا مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ، فَسَأَلْتُهُمْ عَنْهُ، فَقُلْتُ: أَرَأَيْتُمْ رَجُلًا، كذَا وَكَذَا؟ فَقالُوا: هَذَا عَبْدٌ آبقٌ، فَأَخَذُونِى فَأَرْدَفونِى خَلْفَ رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ، حَتَّى قَدِمُوا بِى الْمَدِينَةَ، فَجَعَلُونِى فِى حَائطٍ لَهُمْ، فَكُنْتُ أَعْمَلُ هَذَا الْخَوصَ (* * * *)، وَقَدْ كَانَ الرَّاهِبُ قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ لَمْ يُعْطِ الْعَرَبَ مِنَ الأَنْبِياءِ أَحَدًا، وَإِنَّهُ سَيخْرُجُ مِنْهُمْ نَبِىٌّ، فَإِنْ أَدْرَكتَهُ فَصَدِّقهُ وآمِنْ بهِ، وَإِنَّ آيَتَهُ أَنْ يَقْبَلَ الْهَدِيَّةَ وَلَا يَأكُلُ الصَّدَقَةَ، وَإِنَّ فِى ظَهْرِهِ خَاتَمَ النُّبُوَّةِ، فَمَكَثْتُ مَا مَكَثْتُ، ثُمَّ قَالوا جَاءَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَخَرَجْتُ مَعِى بِتَمْرٍ جِئْتُ بِهِ إِلَيْهِ، فَقالَ: مَا هَذَا؟ قُلْتُ: صَدَقَةٌ، قَالَ: لَا نَأكُلُ الصَّدَقَةَ، فَأَخَذْتُهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ بِتَمْرٍ، فَوَضَعْتُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، فَقالَ: مَا هَذَا؟ قُلْتُ: هَدِيَّةٌ، فَأَكَلَه، وَأَكَل مَنْ عِنْدَهُ، ثُمَّ قُمْتُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ لأَنْظُرَ إِلَى الْخَاتَمِ، فَفَطِنَ بِى، فَأَلْقَى رِدَاءَهُ عَنْ مَنْكَبِيْهِ، فَأَبْصَرْتُهُ فآمَنْتُ بِهِ وَصدَّقْتُهُ، فَكَاتَبْتُ عَلَى مِائَةِ نَخْلَةٍ، فَغَرَسَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِيَدِهِ، فَلَمْ يَحُلِ الْحَوْلُ حَتَّى بَلَغَتْ وَأَكَلَ مِنْها".

"عَنْ سلمانَ. كُنْتُ مِنْ أَبْنَاءِ أَسَاوِرَةِ فَارِسَ وَكُتِبَ (* *) لِى كِتابٌ وَمَعِى غُلَامانِ، وَكانَا إِذا رجعا مِنْ عِنْدَ مُعَلِّمِيْهِما أَتيا نَفْسًا (* * *) فَدَخَلا عَلَيْهِ، فَدَخَلْتُ مَعَهُما، فَقَالَ: أَلَمْ أَنَهَكُما أَنْ تأتِيانِى بِأَحدٍ؟ ! فَجَعَلْتُ أخْتَلِفُ إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى كُنْتُ أَحبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْهُما. فَقالَ لِى: إِذَا سَأَلَكَ أَهْلُكَ مَنْ حَبَسَكَ فَقُلْ: مُعَلِّمِى، وإِذَا سَأَلَكَ مُعَلِّمُكَ مَنْ

حَبَسَكَ فَقُلْ: أَهْلى، ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ أَرادَ أَنْ يَتَحَوَّلَ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: أَنَا أَتَحَوَّلُ مَعَكَ، فَتَحَوَّلْتُ مَعَهُ، فَنَزَلْتُ قَرْيَةً، فَكانَت امْرأَةٌ تَأتِيه، فَلَمَّا حَضَرَ، قَالَ لى: يَا سَلْمانُ! احْفُرْ عِنْدَ رَأسِى، فَحَفَرْتُ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِ، فَاسْتَخْرَجْتُ جَرَّةً مِنْ دراهَم، فَقَالَ لِى: صُبَّها عَلَى صَدْرى، فَصَبْبتُهَا عَلَى صَدْرِهِ، فَكَانَ يَقُولُ: وَيْلٌ لَاقْتَنَائِى، ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ مَاتَ، فَقُلْتُ للرُّهْبَانِ، مَنْ لِى بِرَجُل عَالِمٍ أَتَّبِعُهُ، فَدَلُّونِى عَلَى رَجُلٍ فَأَتَيْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ: ما جَاءنِى إِلا طَلَبُ العِلْمِ، قَالَ: فَإِنِّى واللهِ ما أَعْلَمُ اليَوْمَ رَجُلًا أَعْلَم مِنْ رَجُلٍ خَرَجَ بِأَرْضِى يَتِما (تهامة) (*) وَإِنْ تَنْطَلِقْ الآنَ تُوافِقْه وَفيه ثَلَاثُ آياتٍ، يَأكُلُ الْهَدِيَّةَ وَلَا يَأكُلُ الصَّدَقَةَ، وَعنْدَ غُضْروفِ كَتِفِهِ اليُمْنَى خَاتَمُ النُّبوَة مِثْل بَيْضَةِ الْحَمَامَة لَوْنُها لَوْنُ جِلْدِهِ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ حَتَّى مَرَرْتُ بِقَوْمٍ مِنَ الأَعرابِ، فاسْتَعْبَدُونِى، فباعُونى حَتَّى اشْتَرَتْنى امْرأَةٌ منَ الْمَدِينَة، فسَمِعْتُهُمْ يَذْكُرون النَّبِىَّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ لَها: هَبى لى يَوْمًا، قالَتْ: نعمَ، فَاحْتَطَبْتُ حَطَبًا، فَبعْتُهُ، فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ وَكَانَ يَسيرًا فَوَضَعْتُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْه، فَقالَ: ما هَذَا؟ قُلْتُ: صَدَقَةٌ، فَقالَ لأصْحابه. كُلُوا وَلَمْ يَأكُلْ، قُلْتُ: هَذَا مِنْ عَلَامَتِهِ، ثُمَّ مَكَثْتُ ما شَاءَ الله أَنْ أَمْكُثَ، ثُمَّ قُلْتُ لِمَوْلَاتِى: هِبِى لى يَوْمًا، قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ، فانطلقت واحْتَطَبْتُ حَطبًا فَبِعْتُهُ بِأكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، وَصَنَعْتُ طَعَامًا، فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ وَهُوَ جالِسٌ بَيْنَ أَصْحابِهِ فَوَضَعْتُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، فَقالَ: مَا هَذَا؟ قُلْتُ: هَدِيَّةٌ، فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ فَقالَ لأَصْحَابِهِ: خُذوا بسْمِ اللهِ، وَقُمْتُ خَلْفَهُ فَوَضَعَ رِدَاءَهُ، فَإِذَا خَاتَمُ النُّبَوَّة، فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ. قَالَ: وَمَا ذَاكَ؟ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ عَن الرَّجُلِ، ثُمَّ قُلْتُ: أَيَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ ! فَإِنَّهُ حَدَّثَنِى أَنَّكَ نَبِىٌّ، قالَ: لَن يَدْخُلَ الجَنَّةَ إِلَّا نَفْسٌ مُسلِمَةٌ".

"انْطَلَقَ ثَلاَثَةُ رَهْطٍ مِمَّنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ حَتَّى أَوَوُا المَبِيتَ إِلَى غَارٍ فَدَخَلُوهُ، فَانْحَدَرَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ صَخْرَةٌ مِنَ الجَبَلِ فَسَدَّتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الغَارَ، فَقَالُوا: إِنَّهُ لاَ ينجِيكُمْ مِنْ هَذِهِ الصَّخْرَةِ إِلَّا أَنْ تَدْعُوا الله بِصَالِحِ أعْمَالِكُمْ، قَالَ رَجُل مِنْهُمْ: اللَّهُمَّ كانَ لِى أبَوانِ شَيْخَانِ كبِيرَانِ، وَكنتُ لاَ أَغْبِقُ قَبْلَهُمَا أهْلًا وَلاَ مَالًا، فَنَأى بِى فِى طَلَبِ شَىْءٍ يَوْمًا فَلَمْ أُرِحْ عَلَيْهِمَا حَتَّى نَامَا، فَحَلَبْتُ لَهُمَا غُبُوقَهُمَا، فَوَجَدْتُهُمَا نَائِمِيْنِ، فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَغْبِقَ قَبْلَهُمَا أهْلًا أو مَالًا، فَلَبِثْتُ وَالقَدَحُ عَلَى يَدَىَّ أنْتَظِرُ اسْتِيقَاظَهُمَا حَتَّى بَرِقَ الفَجْرُ، فَاسْتَيْقَظَا، فَشِرِبَا غُبُوقَهُمَا اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كنتُ فَعَلتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ، فَفَرِّجْ عَنَّا مَا نَحْنُ فِيهِ مِنْ هَذِهِ الصَّخْرَةِ، فَانْفَرَجَتْ شَيْئًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ الخُرُوجَ، وَقَالَ الآخَرُ: اللَّهُمَّ كَانَتْ لِى ابْنَةُ عَمٍّ كانَتْ أَحَبَّ النَّاسِ إِلَىَّ، فَأرَدْتُهَا عَلَى نَفْسِهَا فَامْتَنَعَتْ مِنِّى، حَتَّى أَلَمَّتْ بِهَا سَنَةٌ مِنَ السِّنِينَ فَجَاءَتْنِى فَأعْطَيْتُهَا عِشْرِينَ وَمِائَةَ دِينَارٍ عَلَى أَنْ تُخَلِّى بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَ نَفْسِهَا فَفَعَلَتْ، حَتَّى إِذَا قَدَرْتُ عَلَيْهَا قَالَتْ: لاَ أحِلُّ لَكَ أَنْ تَفُضَّ الخَاتَمَ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهِ، فَتَحَرَّجْتُ مِنَ الوُقُوع عَلَيْهَا، فَانْصَرَفْتُ عَنْهَا وَهِىَ أحَبُّ النَّاسِ إِلَىَّ، وَتَرَكْتُ الَّذِى أعْطَيْتُهَا، اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتُ فَعَلتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ، فَأفْرِجْ عَنَّا مَا نَحْنُ فِيهِ، فَانْفَرَجَتِ الصَّخْرَةُ غَيْر أنَّهُمْ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ الخُرُوجَ مِنْهَا، وَقَالَ الثَّالِثُ: اللَّهُمَّ اسْتَأَجَرْتُ أجَرَاءَ فَأعْطَيْتُهُمْ أجْرَهُمْ غَيْرَ رَجُلٍ تَرَكَ الَّذِى لَهُ وَذَهَبَ، فَثَمَّرْتُ أجْرَهُ حَتَّى كَثُرَتْ مِنْهُ الأمْوَالُ فَجَاءَنِى بَعْدَ حِينٍ فَقَالَ: يَا عَبْدَ الله أَدِّ إِلَىَّ أجْرِى، فَقُلتُ لَهُ: كُلُّ مَا تَرَى مِنْ أجْرِكَ مِنَ الإِبِلِ وَالبَقَرِ وَالغَنَم وَالرَّقِيقِ، فَقَالَ: يَا عَبْدَ الله لاَ تَسْتَهْزِئْ بِى، فَقُلتُ: إِنِّى لاَ أَسْتَهْزِئُ بِكَ، فَأخَذَهُ كلَّهُ فَاسْتَاقَهُ فَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا. اللَّهُمَّ فَإِنْ كنتُ فَعَلتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَأفْرِجْ عَنَا مَا نَحْنُ فِيهِ، فَانْفَرَجَتِ الصَّخْرَةُ، فَخَرَجُوا يَمْشُونَ".

"بَيْنَمَا ثَلاَثَةُ نَفَرٍ يَمْشُونَ أخَذَهُمْ المَطَرُ فَأوَوْا إِلَى غَارٍ فِى جَبَل فَانْحَطَّ عَلَى فَمِ الغَارِ صَخْرَةٌ مِنَ الجَبَلِ فَانْطَبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ: انْظُرُوا أعْمَالًا عَمِلتُمُوهَا صَالِحَةً لله فَادْعُوا بِهَا لَعَلَّهُ يُفَرِّجُهَا عَنْكُمْ، فَقَالَ أحَدُهُمْ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِى وَالِدَانِ شَيْخَانِ كَبِيرَانِ وَامْرَأتِى وَلِىَ صِبْيَةٌ صِغَارٌ أرْعَى عَلَيْهِمْ، فَإِذَا ارْحلت (*) عَلَيْهِمْ حَلَبْتُ فَبَدَأتُ بِوَالِدَىَّ فَسَقَيْتهُمَا قَبْلَ بَنِىَّ، وَإنِّي نَأَى بِى ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ الشَّجَرُ فَلَمْ آتِ حَتَّى أمْسَيْتُ فَوَجَدْتُهُمَا قَدْ نَامَا، فَحَلَبْتُ كَمَا كُنْتُ أحْلُبُ فَجِئْتُ بِالحِلاَبِ فَقُمْتُ عِنْدَ رُءُوسِهِمَا أكْرَهُ أَنْ أوقِظَهُمَا مِنْ نَوْمِهِمَا وَأكْرَهُ أَنْ أسْقىَ الصِّبْيَةَ قَبْلَهُمَا، وَالصِّبْيَةُ يَتَضَاغَوْنَ عِنْدَ قَدَمَىَّ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ ذَلِكَ دَأبِى وَدَأبَهُمْ حتَّى طَلَعَ الفَجْرُ، فَإنْ كنتَ تَعْلَمُ أنِّى فَعَلتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ لَنَا منْهَا فُرْجَةً نَرَى مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ، فَفَرَّجَ الله مِنْهَا فُرْجَةً، فَرَأَوْا مِنْهَا السَّمَاءَ، وَقَالَ الآخَرُ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُ كَانَتْ لِى ابْنَةُ عَمٍّ أحْبَبْتُهَا كَأشَدِّ مَا يُحِبُ الرَّجُلُ النِّسَاءَ، وَطَلَبَتُ إِلَيْهَا نَفْسَهَا فَأبَتْ حتَّى آتِيْهَا بِمِائَةِ دينَارٍ فَتَعِبْتُ حَتَّى جَمَعْتُ مائَةَ دينَارٍ فَجِئْتُهَا بِهَا، فَلَمَّا وَقَعْتُ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهَا قَالَتْ: يَا عَبْدَ الله اتَّقِ الله وَلاَ تَفْتَح الخَاتَم إِلَّا بِحَقِّهِ، فَقُمْتُ عَنْهَا، فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أنِّى فَعَلتُ ذَلِكَ ابتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ لَنَا مِنْهَا فُرْجَةً، فَفَرَّج لَهُمْ، وَقَالَ الآخَرُ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّى اسْتَأجَرْتُ أَجِيرًا بِفَرَقِ أُرْزٍ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى عَمَلَهُ قَالَ: أعْطِنِى حَقِّى فَعَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَقَهُ فَرَغِبَ عَنْهُ، فَلَمْ أزَلْ أَزْرَعُهُ حتَّى جَمَعْتُ مِثهُ بَقَرًا وَرِعَاءَهَا، فَجَاءَنِى فَقَالَ: اتَّقِ

الله وَلا تَظلِمْنِى حَقِّى، قُلتُ: اذْهَبْ إِلَى ذَلِكَ البَقَرِ وَرِعَائِهَا فَخُذْهَا، فَقَاَل: اتَّقِ الله وَلاَ تَسْتَهْزِئ بِى، فَقُلتُ: إِنِّى لاَ أَسْتَهْزِئُ بِكَ خُذْ ذَلِكَ البَقَرَ وَرِعَاءَها، فَأخَذَهُ فَذَهَبَ بِهِ، فَإِنْ كنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّى فَعَلتُ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِكَ فَافْرُجْ مَا بَقِىَ، فَفَرَجَ الله مَا بَقِىَ".

في جَانِبٍ منَ الْبَيْتِ مَا شَاءَ الله، ثُمَّ مَرَّتْ بِى بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ بَقَرٌ فَاشْتَرَيْتُ بِهِ فَصِيلًا مِنَ الْبَقَرِ فَأَمْسَكْتُهُ حَتَّى كَبِرَ ثُمَّ بِعْتُهُ، ثُمَّ صَرَفْتُ ثَمَنَهُ في بَقَرَةٍ فَحَمَلَتْ ثُمَّ تَوَالَدَتْ لَهَا حَتَّى مَا شَاءَ الله، ثُمَّ مَرَّ بِى بَعْدُ شَيْخ ضَعِيفٌ لَا أَعرِفهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ: إِنَّ لِى عِنْدَكَ حَقَّا فَذَكَّرهُ حَتَّى عَرَفْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ: نَعَمْ إيَّاكَ أَبْغِى، فَعَرَضْتُهَا عَلَيْهِ جَمِيعًا، فَقُلْتُ: هَذَا حَقُّكَ، فَقَالَ: يَا عَبْدَ الله لَا تَسْتَهْزِئ بِى إِنْ لَمْ تَتَصَدَّقْ عَلَى فَأَعْطِنِى حَقِّى، فَقُلْتُ: وَالله مَا أَسْخَرُ مِنْكَ إِنَّهَا لَحَقُّكَ مَا لِى مِنْهَا شَىْءٌ فَدَفَعْتُهَا، اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتُ فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ لِوَجْهِكَ فَافْرِجْ عَنَّا فَانْصدع الْجَبَلُ حَتَّى رَأوْا وأَبْصَرُوا وَقَالَ الآخَرُ: فَعَلْتُ حَسَنَةً مَرَّة، كَانَ عِنْدِى فَضْلٌ وَأَصَابَتِ النَّاسَ شِدَّةٌ فَجَاءَتْنِى امْرَأَةٌ تَطلبُ مِنِّى مَعْرُوفًا فَقُلْتُ لَهَا: لَا وَالله مَا دُونَ نَفْسِكِ فأبت عَلَىَّ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَتْ فَذَكَرْت ذَلِكَ لِزَوْجِهَا فَقَالَ: أَعْطِيهِ نَفْسَكِ فَأَغْنِى عِيَالَكِ، فَجَاءَتْنِى فَنَاشَدَتْنِى الله، فَقُلْتُ لَهَا: لَا وَالله مَا هُوَ دُونَ نَفْسِكِ، فَلَمَّا رَأَتْ ذَلِكَ أَسْلَمَتْ إِلَىَّ نَفْسَهَا، فَلَمَّا كَشَفْتُهَا وهَمَمْتُ بِهَا ارتَعَدْت مِنْ تَحْتِى، فَقُلْتُ لَهَا مَالَكِ؟ قَالَتْ: أخَافُ الله رَبَّ الْعَالِمينَ، فَقُلْتُ لَهَا: خِفْتِ الله في الشِّدَّةِ وَلَمْ أَخفْهُ في الرَّخَاءِ فَتَرَكْتُهَا وَأَعْطَيْتُهَا مَا يَحِقُّ عَلَىَّ بِما كَشَفْتُهَا، اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتُ فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ لِوَجْهِكَ فَأفْرِجْ عَلَيْنَا، فَانْصَدَعَ الْجَبَلُ وَعَرَفُوا وَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ، قَالَ الآخَرُ قَدْ عَملْتُ حَسَنَةً مَرَّةً كَانَ لِى أَبَوَانِ شَيْخَانِ كَبِيرَانِ، وَكَانَتْ لِى غَنَمٌ فَأُطْعِمُ أَبَوَاىَ وَأَسْقِيهِمَا ثُمَّ أَرْجِعُ إِلَى غَنَمِى، فَلَمَّا كانَ ذَات يَوْمٍ أَصَابَنِى غَيْثٌ فَمَسَّنِى فَلَم أَرْجِعْ حَتَّى أَمْسيْتُ فَأتَيْتُ أَهْلِى فَأَخَذْتُ مَحْلَبِى فَحَلَبْتُ وَتَرَكْتُ غَنَمِى قَائِمَةً فَمَضَيْتُ إِلَى أَبَوَاىَ لأَسْقِيَهُمَا فَوَجَدْتَهُمَا قَدْ نَامَا، فَشَقَّ عَلَىَّ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُمَا، وَشَقَّ عَلَىَّ أَنْ أَتْرُكَ غَنَمِى فَمَا بَرِحْتُ جَالِسًا وَمَحْلَبِى عَلَى يَدَىَّ حَتَّى أَيْقَظَهُمَا الصُّبْحُ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتُ فَعَلَتُ ذَلِكَ لِوَجْهِكَ فَافْرِجْ عَنَّا، فَقَالَ الْجَبَلُ طَاقّ فَفَرَّجَ الله عَنْهُمْ فَخَرجُوا".

"عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: خَرَجَ ثَلَاثَةُ نَفَرٍ فَأَصَابَتْهُمُ السَّمَاءُ فَدَخَلُوا غَارًا فَانْطَبَقَ عَلَيْهِمُ الجَبَلُ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ: هَذَا بِأعْمَالِكُمْ، فليقم كل رجل منكم فَلْيَدْعُ اللهَ - تَعَالَى- بِخَيْرِ عَمَلٍ عَمِلَهُ، فَقَامَ أَحَدُهُمْ فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ لِي أَبَوَانِ كَبِيرَانِ وَكُنْتُ لَا أَغْتَبِقُ حَتَّى أَغْبِقَهُمَا، وَأَنِّي أَتَيْتُهُمَا لَيْلَةً بِغَبُوقِهِمَا فَقُمْتُ عَلَى رُؤُسِهِمَا فَوَجَدْتُهُمَا نَائِمَيْنِ، فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُنَبِّهَهُمَا من نومهما وكرهت أن أنصرف حتى يغتبقا، فلم أزل قائما على رؤوسهما حَتَّى نَظَرْتُ إِلَى الفَجْرِ، اللَّهُمَّ! إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ كَذَلِكَ فَافْرُجْ بِنَا، فَانْصَدعَ الحَجَرُ حَتَّى نَظَرُوا إِلى الضَّوْءِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ الآخَرُ: اللَّهُمَّ! إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ كَانَتْ لِي ابْنَةُ عَمٍّ وَكُنْتُ أُحِبُّهَا حُبًا شَدِيدًا، وَأَنِّي تَمَنَّيْتُهَا لنَفْسِي فَقَالَتْ: لا إِلَّا بِمِائَة دِينَارٍ فَجَمَعْتُهَا لَهَا، فَلَمَّا أَمْكَنَتْنِي مِنْ نَفْسِهَا قَالَتْ: لَا يَحِلُّ لك أن تفض الخَاتَمَ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهِ، فَقُمْتُ فَتَرَكْتُهَا، اللَّهُمَّ! إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ كَذَلِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا، فَانْفَرَجَ الجَبَلُ

حَتَّى كَادُوا يَخْرُجُونَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ الآخَرُ فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ! إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ [لِي] أُجَرَاءُ كَثِيرٌ وَكَانَ لَا يَبِيتُ لأَحَدٍ منهم عِنْدِي أَجْرٌ، وَإِنَّ أَجِيرًا مِنْهُمْ تَرَكَ أجره عندي، وَإِنِّي زَرَعْتُهُ فَأخْصَبَ، فَاتَّخَدتُ مِنْهُ عَبِيدًا وَمَالًا كَثِيرًا فَأَتَى بَعْدَ حِينٍ فَقَالَ: يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ! أَعْطِنِي أَجْرِي، قُلْتُ: هَذَا كُلُّهُ أَجْرُكَ، قَالَ: يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ! لا تتلاعب بِي. فَقُلْتُ: ما أتلاعب بِكَ، فَأَخَذَهُ كُلَّهُ وَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا وَلَا كَثِيرًا، اللَّهُمَّ! إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَم أَنَّ ذَلِكَ كَذَلِكَ فَافْرُجْ عَنَّا، فَانْفَرَجَ الجَبَلُ عَنْهُمْ فَخَرَجُوا".
