So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, is there any invocation closer (to Allah) than another, or a time that should be observed, or something that should be mentioned?" He said, "Yes, indeed. The closest that a servant can be to his Lord is during the last third of the night. If you can be among those who remember Allah during that time, then do so."
[Machine] Indeed, Allah guided His Prophet to a proof, so he said to them, "Guide me to what my Prophet ﷺ guided to." So, they said, "Indeed, Allah guided him to the Night Prayer."
The Prophet ﷺ said: May Allah have mercy on a man who gets up at night and prays, and awakens his wife; if she refuses, he should sprinkle water on her face. May Allah have mercy on a woman who gets up at night and prays, and awakens her husband; if he refuses, she would sprinkle water on his face. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1308)
Ya'la ibn Mumallak said that he asked Umm Salamah about the recitation and prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: What have you to do with his prayer? He would pray, then sleep as long as he had prayed, till morning. She then described his recitation and did so with an exposition word by word. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1466)
[Machine] "He used to raise his voice in recitation during the night and lower it [during the day], and he would mention that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do the same."
