6. Book of Witr (2/2)
[Machine] "He asked Aisha, 'How was the Prophet's reading from the Qur'an at night? Did he recite audibly or in a subdued voice?' She said, 'He would do both, sometimes reciting audibly and sometimes in a subdued voice.' He (the questioner) said, 'Praise be to Allah who has made ease in this matter.'"
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ passed by Abu Bakr while he was praying and he lowered his voice. He also passed by Umar while he was praying and he raised his voice. When they both gathered in front of the Prophet ﷺ , he said to Abu Bakr, "O Abu Bakr, I passed by you while you were praying and you were lowering your voice?" Abu Bakr replied, "I heard the one I was conversing with." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "O Umar, I passed by you while you were praying and you were raising your voice?" Umar replied, "O Messenger of Allah, I use my voice to keep myself alert." The Prophet ﷺ said to Abu Bakr, "Raise your voice a little." And he said to Umar, "Lower your voice."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ retired to the mosque. He heard them (the people) reciting the Qur'an in a loud voice. He removed the curtain and said: Lo! every one of you is calling his Lord quietly. One should not trouble the other and one should not raise the voice in recitation or in prayer over the voice of the other. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1332)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever goes to bed intending to stand (in prayer) during the night, but his eyes overpower him (i.e., he falls asleep) until morning, then his intention will be recorded for him, and his sleep will be a charity from his Lord."
[Machine] Zaidah was praised, so he mentioned it with its chain of narration from the statement of Abu Darda', and this is one of the proofs that do not weaken. Indeed, Al-Husayn bin Ali Al-Ju'fi is the most ancient, protective, and knowledgeable in the hadith of Zaidah than others, and Allah knows best.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not single out Friday with fasting among the days, and do not single out the night of Friday with prayer among the nights."
[Machine] About the sister of Umm Habibah, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, that he said: "Whoever prays twelve units of prayer in a day, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise: four units before Dhuhr prayer, two units after it, two units before Asr prayer, two units after Maghrib prayer, and two units before Fajr prayer." This narration has been authenticated by two reliable narrators according to the conditions of Imam Muslim, and they did not exclude it. All of its supporting evidences are authentic, including the narrations of Nu'man ibn Salim, Mak'hool, and Al-Musayyab ibn Rafe'.
6.7 [Machine] As for the speech of Nu'man ibn Salim
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever prays twelve voluntary prostrations, Allah will build a house for him in paradise."
6.8 [Machine] As for the saying of Makhooul...
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say: "Whoever prays four rak'ahs before Zuhr and four after, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, will forbid him from the Fire." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1814)
[Machine] Buraydah, one day I went out to walk in need, and suddenly I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ walking. I thought he had some need, so I avoided him and kept doing that until he saw me and gestured towards me. So I approached him and he took my hand, and we started walking together. Suddenly, we came across a man in front of us who was praying and he was increasing his bowing and prostration. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked me, "Do you think this person is showing off?" I replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He then extended his hand and placed it between the man's hands three times, raising his hands and straightening them, and saying, "May guidance and sincerity be upon you, may guidance and sincerity be upon you, for indeed the one who seeks fame in this religion will be defeated."
[Machine] He ﷺ prayed with the Prophet ﷺ the Maghrib prayer, then he continued praying until he prayed the Isha prayer.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Honor your homes with some of your prayers."
6.9 [Machine] As for the story of Abdullah ibn Farroukh
[Machine] "One day, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up and called Bilal. He said, 'O Bilal, what deeds have you done that have caused you to surpass me in entering Paradise? Yesterday, I entered Paradise and heard the sound of your footsteps ahead of me.' Bilal replied, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have never called the Adhan (call to prayer) without praying two Rak'ahs (units of prayer), and I have never experienced any impurity without performing ablution.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Because of this.'"
“Pray to Allah to heal me.” He said: “If you wish to store your reward for the Hereafter, that is better, or if you wish, I will supplicate for you.” He said: “Supplicate.” So he told him to perform ablution and do it well, and to pray two Rak’ah, and to say this supplication: “Allahumma inni as’aluka wa atawajjahu ilaika bimuhammadin nabiyyir-rahmah. Ya Muhammadu inni qad tawajjahtu bika ila rabbi fi hajati hadhihi lituqda. Allahumma fashaffi’hu fiya (O Allah, I ask of You and I turn my face towards You by virtue of the intercession of Muhammad the Prophet of mercy. O Muhammad, I have turned to my Lord by virtue of your intercession concerning this need of mine so that it may be met. O Allah, accept his intercession concerning me)”. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1385)
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Keep the sermon secret, then perform ablution and perfect your ablution, then perform the prayer that Allah prescribed for you, then praise and glorify your Lord, then say: O Allah, You are able and I am not able, You know and I do not know, and You are the Knower of the unseen. So if You know that this matter (mention the matter) is good for me in my religion, my life, and the Hereafter, then decree it for me and make it easy for me, then bless me in it. And if You know that this matter is not good for me in my religion, my life, and the Hereafter, then divert it from me and divert me from it. And decree for me what is good wherever it may be, and make me satisfied with it." This is the Sunnah of the Istikhara prayer, a precious tradition that the people of Egypt have exclusively practiced, and their narrators until the end are trustworthy and have not been disputed."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No one preserves the Duha prayer except a repentant person." He also said, "It is the prayer of the repentant."
[Machine] "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during a journey and he performed eight units of the Dhuha prayer. When he finished, he said, 'I prayed a voluntary prayer out of desire and awe, so I asked my Lord three things. He granted me two and denied me one. I asked Him not to cause my ummah to perish due to famine, and He accepted. I asked Him not to expose them to external enemies, and He accepted. And I asked Him not to cause division and discord among them, but He denied me that.'"
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not die until his most frequent prayer was performed sitting."
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray standing and sitting. If he started to pray standing, he would bow standing and if he started to pray sitting, he would bow sitting." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1647)
I had a fistula; so I asked the prophet ﷺ. He said: offer prayer in standing condition; if you are unable to do so, then in sitting condition: if you are then at your side(i.e, in lying condition). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 952)
[Machine] He said, "I traveled with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ eighteen times and I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ leave the two Rak'ahs (units of prayer) when the sun began to decline [(at midday)]."
[Machine] The translation of the given Arabic phrase is: "The Prophet ﷺ would not leave a house without offering two Rak'ahs (units of prayer)."
The Prophet ﷺ said: When a man himself wakes at night and wakens his wife and they pray two rak'ahs together, they are recorded among the men and women who make much mention of Allah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1451)
Ibn ʿAbbas said: “We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when ʿAli bin Abi Talib came to him, and he said: ‘May my father and mother be ransomed for you! This Qur’an has suddenly left my heart, and I do not find myself capable of it.’ So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: ‘O Abul-Hasan! Should I not teach you words that Allah shall benefit you with, and benefit whomever you teach, and they will make whatever you have learned in your chest firm?’ He said: ‘Of course, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so teach me.’ He ﷺ said: ‘When it is the night of (before) Friday, then if you are able to stand in the last third of the night, then verily it is a witnessed hour, and supplication is answered in it. And my brother Yaʿqub (as) did say to his sons: I shall seek forgiveness for you from my Lord. He said: “Until the night of Friday comes.” So if you are not able, then stand in the middle of it, and if you are not able then stand in the first of it. And pray four Rakʿah. Recite Fatihatul-Kitab (the Opening of the Book) and Surat Ya-Sin in the first Rakʿah, and Fatihatul-Kitab and Ha-Mim Ad-Dukhan in the second Rakʿah, and Fatihatul-Kitab and Alif Lam Mim Tanzil As-Sajdah in the third Rakʿah, and Fatihatul-Kitab and Tabarak Al-Mufassal in the fourth Rakʿah. So when you have finished with the Tasha-hud, then praise Allah and mention Allah’s greatness in an excellent manner, and send Salat upon me - and be excellent in it - and upon the rest of the Prophets. And seek forgiveness for the believing men and the believing women, and for your brothers who have preceded you in faith. Then say in the end of that: “O Allah, have mercy on me by abandonment of sins forever, so long as You keep me remaining. And have mercy on me from taking upon myself what does not concern me, and provide me good sight for what will make You pleased with me. O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Possessor of glory, and generosity, and honor that is not exceeded. I ask you, O Allah, O Rahman, by Your glory and the light of Your Face, to make my heart constant in remembering Your Book as You taught me, and grant me that I recite it in the manner that will make You pleased with me. O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Possessor of glory, and generosity, and honor that is not exceeded. I ask you, O Allah, O Rahman, by Your glory and the light of Your Face, to enlighten my sight with Your Book, and make my tongue free with it, and to relieve my heart with it, and to expand my chest with it, and to wash my body with it. For indeed, none aids me upon the truth other than You, and none gives it except You, and there is no might or power except by Allah, the High, the Magnificent. (Allāhummarḥamnī bitarkil-maʿāṣī abadan mā abqaitanī, warḥamnī an atakallafa mā lā yaʿnīnī, warzuqnī ḥusnan-naẓari fī mā yurḍīka ʿannī. Allāhumma badīʿas-samāwāti wal-arḍi dhal-jalāli wal-ikrāmi wal-ʿizzatil-latī lā turāmu, as’aluka yā Allāhu yā Raḥmānu bi-jalālika wa nūri wajhika, an tulzima qalbī ḥifẓa kitābika kamā ʿallamtanī, warzuqnī an atluwahū ʿalan-naḥwil-ladhī yurḍīka ʿannī. Allāhumma badīʿas-samāwāti wal arḍi dhal-jalāli wal-ikrāmi wal ʿizzati-llatī lā turāmu, as’aluka yā Allāhu, yā Raḥmānu bi-jalālika wa nūri wajhika, an tunawwira bi-kitābika baṣarī, wa an tuṭliqa bihī lisānī, wa an tufarrija bihī ʿan qalbī, wa an tashraḥa bihī ṣadrī, wa an taghsila bihī badanī, fa innahu lā yuʿīnunī ʿalal-ḥaqqi ghairuka wa lā yu’tīhi illā anta wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāhil-ʿAliyyil-ʿAẓīm).” O Abul-Hasan! So do this three Fridays, or five, or seven, you will be answered - by the will of Allah - by the One Who sent me with the Truth, it has not failed a believer once.’” ʿAbdullah bin ʿAbbas said: “So, by Allah, ʿAli did not wait but five or seven until [ʿAli] came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a gathering similar to that and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, indeed I was [a man] in the time that passed, who used to not take except four Ayat or about that much, so when I would recite them to myself they would suddenly depart from me, and today I learn forty Ayat or about that much, and when I recite them to myself, then it is as if the Book of Allah is before my eyes. I used to hear a Hadith and when I would repeat it, it would suddenly depart from me, and today I hear Ahadith, and when I report them, I do not err in a single letter.’ So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said at that point: ‘A believer, by the Lord of the Kaʿbah, O Abul-Hasan.’” (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3570)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to al-Abbas ibn AbdulMuttalib: Abbas, my uncle, shall I not give you, shall I not present to you, shall I not donate to you, shall I not produce for you ten things? If you act upon them, Allah will forgive you your sins, first and last, old and new, involuntary and voluntary, small and great, secret and open. These are the ten things: you should pray four rak'ahs, reciting in each one Fatihat al-Kitab and a surah. When you finish the recitation of the first rak'ah you should say fifteen times while standing: "Glory be to Allah", "Praise be to Allah", "There is no god but Allah", "Allah is most great". Then you should bow and say it ten times while bowing. Then you should raise your head after bowing and say it ten times. Then you should kneel down in prostration and say it ten times while prostrating yourself. Then you should raise your head after prostration and say it ten times. Then you should prostrate yourself and say it ten times. Then you should raise your head after prostrating and say it ten times in every rak'ah. You should do that in four rak'ahs. If you can observe it once daily, do so; if not, then once weekly; if not, then once a month; if not, then once a year; if not, then once in your lifetime. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1297)

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his uncle Al-Abbas, and he mentioned the Hadith: 'This transmission does not weaken the bond of Hadith (knowledge). [Machine] From the Prophet, peace be upon him, with a narration similar to the hadith of Musa ibn Abdul Aziz from Al-Hakam: "The narration is authentic that Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, taught his cousin Ja'far ibn Abi Talib this prayer as he taught it to his uncle Abbas."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Ja'far ibn Abi Talib to the land of Habasha (Ethiopia). When he arrived there, the king embraced him, kissed him between the eyes, and said, "Do you not want me to give you gifts, inform you, honor you, and entertain you?" Ja'far replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." The king then instructed him to perform four units of prayer, reciting Alhamdulillah and a Surah in each unit, and after completing the recitation, say the following while still standing upright, before going into prostration: Subhan Allahi walhamdulillahi wala ilaha illallah wallahu akbar, wala hawla wala quwwata illa billah (Glory be to Allah, all praise is due to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is the greatest, and there is no power or strength except with Allah) fifteen times. Then, in the bowing position, say the same words ten times. Complete this entire unit before starting the second unit. Ja'far followed these instructions for three units, as described, until he had completed four units. "This is an authentic narration, with no doubt about it. One of the proofs of the authenticity of this hadith is the fact that the Imams of the Tabi'een in our time used it, as well as their consistent teaching of it to the people, such as Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak. May Allah have mercy on him."

[Machine] You begin by saying "Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, tabarakasmuka wa ta'ala jadduka wa la ilaha ghayruka." Then, you say "Subhanallah walhamdulillah wa la ilaha illallah wallahu akbar" fifteen times. Next, you seek refuge and recite "Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim" and Al-Fatiha, followed by saying "Subhanallah walhamdulillah wa la ilaha illallah wallahu akbar" ten times while in the standing position of prayer. Then, you perform a bowing (rukoo) position and say it ten times, followed by raising your head and saying it ten times again. After that, you prostrate (sujood) and say it ten times, then raise your head and say it ten times again. Finally, you perform a second prostration and say it ten times, raise your head and say it ten times again. This completes one unit (rak'ah). You perform this prayer for a total of four units, resulting in seventy-five tasbih in each unit, making a total of three hundred. If you pray this at night, it is preferred to conclude with the tasleem (peace greeting) after the two units. If you pray during the day, you may choose to perform the tasleem or not. All narrators of this hadith from Ibn al-Mubarak are trustworthy and reliable, and it is not accused that Abdullah taught something that is not valid according to his chain of narration.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us one day and sat down. He said, "Whoever has a need to ask Allah for or to ask any human being from the children of Adam, should perform ablution and perfect his ablution, then pray two units of prayer and praise Allah, and send prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ . Then let him say, 'There is no deity except Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous. Glory be to Allah, the Lord of the Great Throne. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. I ask You for firm determination in seeking Your forgiveness and protection from every sin and safety from every offense.'" This narration is from Fa'idh bin 'Abdul-Rahman Abu al-Warqa' al-Kufi, who is counted among the followers (tabi'in), and I have seen a group of his contemporaries, and he was upright in narrating hadith, except that the two sheikhs did not narrate from him. I only included this narration as evidence for what was mentioned previously.

[Machine] "I prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a night in Ramadan in a room made of palm leaves. He stood up, raised his voice saying, "Allah is the greatest, the possessor of might, dominion, magnificence, and grandeur." Then, he began the recitation with Surah Al-Baqarah, and I thought he would stop at one hundred verses, but he continued until he reached two hundred. Then, he began the recitation of Surah Al-Imran, and he recited it. After that, he began the recitation of Surah An-Nisa and recited it. He would not pass by a verse of admonition without pausing to seek refuge with Allah. Then, he performed a rukoo' (bowing) similar to his standing position, saying, "Subhan Rabbiyal Azeem," which he would repeat. Then, he raised his head and said, "Allah listens to the one who praises Him. O our Lord, all praise is due to You." He repeated this statement, similar to his rukoo'. Then, he prostrated as he did in his standing position, saying, "Subhan Rabbiyal A'la." He would say, between the two prostrations, "O Lord, forgive me." He did not pray more than four units of prayer, similar to the Tahajjud prayer, from the beginning of the night until the end of it, until Bilal came and called the Adhan for Fajr prayer."
