"بِتُّ (نمت) عنْدَ خَالَتِى مَيْمُونَةَ (ابنَةِ الحارِث)، فَقَامَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّى منَ اللَّيْل، فَأَتَى الحَاجَةَ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَيَدَيْهِ، ثُمَّ نَامَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ يُصَلِّى منَ اللَّيْلِ فَأَتَى القِرْبَةَ، ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وضُوءًا بَيْنَ وُضُوءَيْنِ لَمْ يُكْثِرْ وَقَدْ أَبْلَغَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى، وَتَمَطَّيْتُ كَرَاهِيَةَ أَنْ يَرَانى أَتَّقيهِ - يَعْنى أُرَاقبَهُ - ثُمَّ قُمْتُ فَفَعَلتُ كَمَا فَعَلَ، فَقُمْتُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ، فَأَخَذَ بِمَا يَلِى أُذُنِى حَتَّى أَدَارَنِى فَكنَتُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّى، فَتَتَامَّتْ صَلاتُهُ إِلَى ثَلاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً مِنْهَا رَكْعَتَا الْفَجْرِ، ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ فَنَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ بِلالٌ فَآذَنَهُ بِالصَّلاةِ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأَ (وَزَادنى يَحْيَى في هَذَا الحَديث عَنِ الثَّوْرِى، عَنْ سَلَمَة بن كهيل، عن كريب، عن ابن عباس قال: ) وَكَانَ فِى دُعائِهِ: "اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ في قَلْبِى نُورًا، وَفِى سَمْعِى نُورًا، وَفِى بَصَرِى نُورًا، وَعَنْ يَمِينى نُورًا، وَعَنْ يَسَارى نُورًا، وَمنْ فَوْقى نُورًا، وَمنْ تَحْتِى نُورًا، وَمنْ بَيْنِ يَدَى نُورًا، وَمِنْ خَلفى نُورًا، وَأَعْظِمْ لِى نُورًا.

قال كُرَيْبٌ: وَسِتٌّ عِنْدى في التَّابُوت: وَعَصَبِى، وَمُخِّى، وَدَمى، وَشَعْرى، وَبَشَرى، وَعِظَامِى".

One night I slept at the house of Maimuna. The Prophet ﷺ woke up, answered the call of nature, washed his face and hands, and then slept. He got up (late at night), went to a water skin, opened the mouth thereof and performed ablution not using much water, yet he washed all the parts properly and then offered the prayer. I got up and straightened my back in order that the Prophet ﷺ might not feel that I was watching him, and then I performed the ablution, and when he got up to offer the prayer, I stood on his left. He caught hold of my ear and brought me over to his right side. He offered thirteen rakʿat in all and then lay down and slept till he started blowing out his breath as he used to do when he slept. In the meantime Bilal informed the Prophet ﷺ of the approaching time for the (Fajr) prayer, and the Prophet offered the Fajr (Morning) prayer without performing new ablution. He used to say in his invocation, Allahumma ijʿal fi qalbi nuran wa fi basari nuran, wa fi samʿi nuran, waʿan yamini nuran, waʿan yasari nuran, wa fawqi nuran, wa tahti nuran, wa amami nuran, wa khalfi nuran, wajʿal li nuran." Kuraib (a sub narrator) said, "I have forgotten seven other words, (which the Prophet ﷺ mentioned in this invocation). I met a man from the offspring of Al-ʿAbbas and he narrated those seven things to me, mentioning, '(Let there be light in) my nerves, my flesh, my blood, my hair and my body,' and he also mentioned two other things."

I spent a night with my maternal aunt (sister of my mother) Maimuna. The Apostle of Allah ﷺ got up during the night and relieved himself, then washed his face and hands and went to sleep. He then got up again, and came to the water skin and loosened its straps, then performed good ablution between the two extremes. He then stood up and observed prayer. I also stood up and stretched my body fearing that he might be under the impression that I was there to find out (what he did at night). So I also performed ablution and stood up to pray, but I stood on his left. He took hold of my hand and made me go around to his right side. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ completed thirteen rakʿahs of his night prayer. He then lay down and slept and snored (and it was his habit to snore while asleep). Then Bilal came and he informed him about the prayer. He (the Holy Prophet) then stood up for prayer and did not perform ablution, and his supplication included these words: "O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my sight, light in my hearing, light on my right hand, light on my left hand, light above me, light below me, light in front of me, light behind me, and enhance light for me." Kuraib (the narrator) said: There are seven (words more) which are in my heart (but I cannot recall them) and I met some of the descendants of Al-ʿAbbas and they narrated these words to me and mentioned in them: (Light) in my sinew, in my flesh, in my blood, in my hair, in my skin, and made a mention of two more things.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood near the water-skin and poured water out of it and performed ablution in which he neither used excess of water nor too little of it, and the rest of the hadith is the same, and in this mention is also made (of the fact) that on that night the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made supplication before Allah in nineteen words. Kuraib reported: I remember twelve words out of these, but have forgotten the rest. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Place light in my heart, light in my tongue, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light above me, light below me, light on my right, light on my left, light in front of me, light behind me, place light in my soul, and make light abundant for me."

Then, he woke up during the night and came to Qibla (direction of prayer), untied his hair, made ablution, not excessive, and prayed. I disliked that he sees me spying on him, so I kept watching him. After that, I stood up and did the same as he did, and I stood on his left side. He held his earlobe until he turned me around, and I stood on his right side while he was praying. His prayer consisted of thirteen Rak'ahs, including the two Rak'ahs of Fajr prayer. Then, he lay down and slept until he snored, and then Bilal announced the prayer call (Adhan) to him. So, he stood up and prayed without performing ablution.

He woke up and went towards the place for prayer and untied his hair. Then he poured water in the jug or basin and cupped his hands with it. He then performed a good and excellent ablution between the two ablutions. He stood up to pray, and I stood on his left side, but he took hold of me and made me stand on his right side. The prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ consisted of thirteen rak'ahs in total. Then he went back to sleep until he snored, and we recognized that he was asleep by his snoring. Then he went out for prayer and prayed, saying either in his prayer or in his prostration, "O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light on my right, light on my left, light in front of me, light behind me, light above me, light below me, and make me a light." Shu'bah or someone else said, "Or he said, 'Place light for me.'" 'Amr ibn Dinar narrated from Kurayb from Ibn Abbas that he had slept while lying down.

بِتُّ عِنْدَ خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةَ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَأَتَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَيَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَأَتَى الْقِرْبَةَ فَأَطْلَقَ شِنَاقَهَا ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءًا بَيْنَ الْوُضُوءَيْنِ لَمْ يُكْثِرْ وَقَدْ أَبْلَغَ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى فَقُمْتُ فَتَمَطَّأْتُ كَرَاهِيَةَ أَنْ يَرَى أَنِّي كُنْتُ أَرْتَقِبُهُ فَتَوَضَّأْتُ فَقَامَ يُصَلِّي فَقُمْتُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ فَأَخَذَنِي بِأُذُنِي فَأَدَارَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَتَتَامَّتْ صَلَاةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ فَنَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ وَكَانَ إِذَا نَامَ نَفَخَ فَأَتَاهُ بِلَالٌ فَآذَنَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ وَكَانَ يَقُولُ فِي دُعَائِهِ اللهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِي قَلْبِي نُورًا وَفِي بَصَرِي نُورًا وَفِي سَمْعِي نُورًا وَعَنْ يَمِينِي نُورًا وَعَنْ يَسَارِي نُورًا وَمِنْ فَوْقِي نُورًا وَمِنْ تَحْتِي نُورًا وَمِنْ أَمَامِي نُورًا وَمِنْ خَلْفِي نُورًا وَأَعْظِمْ لِي نُورًا قَالَ كُرَيْبٌ وَسَبْعٌ فِي التَّابُوتِ قَالَ فَلَقِيتُ بَعْضَ وَلَدِ الْعَبَّاسِ فَحَدَّثَنِي بِهِنَّ فَذَكَرَ عَصَبِي وَلَحْمِي وَدَمِي وَشَعْرِي وَبَشَرِي قَالَ وَذَكَرَ خَصْلَتَيْنِ

One night I slept at the house of Maimuna. The Prophet ﷺ woke up, answered the call of nature, washed his face and hands, and then slept. He got up (late at night), went to a water skin, opened the mouth thereof and performed ablution not using much water, yet he washed all the parts properly and then offered the prayer. I got up and straightened my back in order that the Prophet ﷺ might not feel that I was watching him, and then I performed the ablution, and when he got up to offer the prayer, I stood on his left. He caught hold of my ear and brought me over to his right side. He offered thirteen rakʿat in all and then lay down and slept till he started blowing out his breath as he used to do when he slept. In the meantime Bilal informed the Prophet ﷺ of the approaching time for the (Fajr) prayer, and the Prophet offered the Fajr (Morning) prayer without performing new ablution. He used to say in his invocation, Allahumma ijʿal fi qalbi nuran wa fi basari nuran, wa fi samʿi nuran, waʿan yamini nuran, waʿan yasari nuran, wa fawqi nuran, wa tahti nuran, wa amami nuran, wa khalfi nuran, wajʿal li nuran." Kuraib (a sub narrator) said, "I have forgotten seven other words, (which the Prophet ﷺ mentioned in this invocation). I met a man from the offspring of Al-ʿAbbas and he narrated those seven things to me, mentioning, '(Let there be light in) my nerves, my flesh, my blood, my hair and my body,' and he also mentioned two other things." [Machine] I stayed at my aunt Maymuna bint al-Harith's house. The Prophet ﷺ woke up at night and went to the bathroom. He washed his face and hands, then stood up to pray at night. He went to the nearest water source and performed ablution between two ablutions, without excessive use of water. Then, he stood up to pray. He said, "I tried to make sure that he did not notice that I was observing him. Then, I stood up and did as he did. I stood on his left side, and he began to recite until he turned towards me and held my ear, so I was on his right side while he was praying. He completed his prayer with thirteen units of prayer, including the two units of the dawn prayer. Then, he lay down and slept until he snored. Bilal came and called for prayer, so he stood up, prayed, and did not perform ablution again."

[Machine] I stayed at my aunt's, Maimuna bint Al-Harith, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ. I said to myself, "I will observe the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and see how he performs it." He came from the mosque and entered the side of the house to fulfill his need, then he went to the nearest spot and released the straps of his sandals. He washed his face and hands, then he took his bed and stayed there as long as Allah willed. Then he stood up and came to the side of the house, then he came to the nearest spot and released the straps of his sandals. Then he performed ablution, a perfect ablution in between two ablutions, not exceeding the amount of water used in ablution, even though he had poured water generously. Then he came to the mosque and said, "I did as he did," then I stood to his left and he held my hand and extended it from behind me, and he made me stand to his right. He prayed eight units of prayer and concluded with three units of Witr. Then he performed two units of prayer and said, "O Allah, grant me light in my heart, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light in my hair, light in my skin, light in my flesh, light in my blood, light in front of me, light behind me, light to my right, light to my left, light beneath me, and light above me. O Allah, grant me light, make me light, and magnify the light for me."

Then he slept for a while, then he woke up and performed a beautiful ablution between the two ablutions. He stood up to pray, and I approached and stood on his left side. He took hold of me and moved me to his right side, completing the Prophet's prayer ﷺ during the night with thirteen rak'ahs. Then he slept, and his sleep was known by his breath. He slept until he snored, then he got up to perform the prayer. During his prayer or supplication, he used to say, "O Allah, make light in my hearing, light in my sight, light in my heart, light on my right, light on my left, light in front of me, light behind me, light above me, light below me, and make light for me."

that Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī entered upon ʿĀʾishah then ʿĀʾishah said to him: O Abū Saʿīd, tell me something you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I shall then tell you what I saw him do. Abū Saʿīd said: ˹Once˺ when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to ˹offer˺ the Subḥ Ṣalāh (the ritual prayer at dawn), he said: "O Allah fill my hearing with nūr (illumination), and my sight with nūr, and before me nūr, and behind me nūr, and on the right of me nūr, and on the left of me nūr, and above me nūr, and below me nūr, and magnify my nūr through Your Mercy." Then they both agreed.

ʿĀʾishah said: ˹Once˺ the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me then he took of his two garments but then he did not finish since he stood up and wore them ˹again.˺ Then a strong sense of jealousy struck me where I assumed that he is going to go to some of my co-wives. So I left following him and found him at the Baqīʿ, Baqīʿ al-Gharqad (name of a graveyard), seeking forgiveness for the believing men and women, and the martyrs. Then I said: By my father and mother, you are in need of your Lord and I am in need of this world. Then I left and entered my apartment and I out was out of breath.

Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ caught up with me and said, "What this ˹heavy˺ breathing, O ʿĀʾishah?" I said: By my father and mother, you came to me and took of your two garments then you didn't finish since you stood up and wore them ˹again.˺ and then a strong sense of jealousy struck me and I assumed that you will go to one of my co-wives, and ˹I felt this way˺ until I saw you at Baqīʿ doing what you were doing.

He said, "O ʿĀʾishah, were you afraid that you that Allah and His Messenger would wrong you? As a matter of fact, Jibrīl (Gabriel), may peace be upon him, came to me and said that tonight is the night of the middle of ˹the month of˺ Shaʿbān. ˹This night˺ there are those who are freed from the Hellfire as many as the number of hairs on the sheep of the ˹tribe of˺ Banū Kalb . ˹However,˺ Allah does not look at (1) the one who associate partners with Him, nor at (2) a hateful person, nor at (3) the one who severs ties of kinship, nor at (4) an ˹ostentatious˺ person with long clothing, nor at (5) the one who disowns his parents, nor at (6) the one who is addicted to alcohol."

He (the narrator) said: Then he took off his two garments and said to me, "O ʿĀʾishah, do you allow me to stand up tonight ˹for the night Ṣalāh˺?" I said: Yes, by my father and mother. The he stood ˹the night˺ and did sajdah (prostrated) for a very long time until I thought that he has passed away. So I touched him and put my hands on the bottom of his feet and then he moved and I was happy.

I heard him say during his sajdah: "I seek refuge through Your Grace from Your punishment, and I seek refuge through Your Pleasure from Your Displeasure, and I seek refuge through You from ˹Your wrath˺, Mighty and Sublime is Your Essence, I cannot enumerate Your Praises as You have assigned Praised for Yourself."

Then when it was morning, I mentioned these ˹phrases˺ to him then he said, "O ʿĀʾishah, did you learn them?" I said: Yes. Then he said, "Learn them and teach them, for Jibrīl, may peace be upon him, taught these to me and ordered me that I repeat them in my sajdahs.

السيوطي:٢٧٣٢٤aأخْبَرَنا أبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الحافِظُ ومُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسى، قالا: حَدَّثَنا أبُو العَبّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، حَدَّثَنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسى بْنِ حَيّانَ المَدائِنِيُّ، حَدَّثَنا سَلامُ بْنُ سُلَيْمانَ، أخْبَرَنا سَلامٌ الطَّوِيلُ، عَنْ وُهَيْبٍ المَكِّيِّ، عَنْ أبِي رُهْمٍ،

أنَّ أبا سَعِيدٍ الخُدْرِيَّ دَخَلَ عَلى عائِشَةَ، فَقالَتْ لَهُ عائِشَةُ: يا أبا سَعِيدٍ حَدِّثْنِي بِشَيْءٍ سَمِعْتَهُ مِن رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، وأُحَدِّثُكَ بِما رَأيْتُهُ يَصْنَعُ، قالَ أبُو سَعِيدٍ: كانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إذا خَرَجَ إلى صَلاةِ الصُّبْحِ، قالَ: «اللهُمَّ امْلَأْ سَمْعِي نُورًا، وبَصَرِي نُورًا، ومِن بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ نُورًا، ومِن خَلْفِي نُورًا، وعَنْ يَمِينِي نُورًا، وعَنْ شِمالِي نُورًا، ومِن فَوْقِي نُورًا، ومِن تَحْتِي نُورًا، وعَظِّمْ لِيَ النُّورَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ». وفِي رِوايَةِ مُحَمَّدٍ: «وأعْظِمْ لِي نُورًا» ثُمَّ اتَّفَقا۔

قالَتْ عائِشَةُ: دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَوَضَعَ عَنْهُ ثَوْبَيْهِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَسْتَتِمَّ أنْ قامَ فَلَبِسَهُما۔ فَأخَذَتْنِي غَيْرَةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ ظَنَنْتُ أنَّهُ يَأْتِي بَعْضَ صُوَيْحِباتِي۔ فَخَرَجْتُ أتْبَعَهُ فَأدْرَكْتُهُ بِالبَقِيعِ بَقِيعِ الغَرْقَدِ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ والمُؤْمِناتِ والشُّهَداءِ، فَقُلْتُ: بِأبِي وأُمِّي أنْتَ فِي حاجَةِ رَبِّكَ، وأنا فِي حاجَةِ الدُّنْيا فانْصَرَفْتُ، فَدَخَلْتُ حُجْرَتِي ولِي نَفَسٌ عالٍ۔

ولَحِقَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقالَ: «ما هَذا النَّفَسُ يا عائِشَةُ؟»، فَقُلْتُ: بِأبِي وأُمِّي أتَيْتَنِي فَوَضَعْتَ عَنْكَ ثَوْبَيْكَ ثُمَّ لَمْ تَسْتَتِمَّ أنْ قُمْتَ فَلَبِسْتَهُما فَأخَذَتْنِي غَيْرَةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ، ظَنَنْتُ أنَّكَ تَأْتِي بَعْضَ صُوَيْحِباتِي حَتّى رَأيْتُكَ بِالبَقِيعِ تَصْنَعُ ما تَصْنَعُ۔

قالَ: «يا عائِشَةُ أكُنْتِ تَخافِينَ أنْ يَحِيفَ اللهُ عَلَيْكِ ورَسُولُهُ، بَلْ أتانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ، فَقالَ: هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةُ لَيْلَةُ النِّصْفِ مِن شَعْبانَ ولِلَّهِ فِيها عُتَقاءُ مِنَ النّارِ بِعَدَدِ شُعُورِ غَنَمِ كَلْبٍ، لا يَنْظُرُ اللهُ فِيها (١) إلى مُشْرِكٍ، (٢) ولا إلى مُشاحِنٍ، (٣) ولا إلى قاطِعِ رَحِمٍ، (٤) ولا إلى مُسْبِلٍ، (٥) ولا إلى عاقٍّ لِوالِدَيْهِ، (٦) ولا إلى مُدْمِنِ خَمْرٍ»

قالَ: ثُمَّ وضْعَ عَنْهُ ثَوْبَيْهِ، فَقالَ لِي: «يا عائِشَةُ تَأْذَنِينَ لِي فِي قِيامِ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ؟»، فَقُلْتُ: نَعَمْ بِأبِي وأُمِّي، فَقامَ فَسَجَدَ لَيْلًا طَوِيلًا حَتّى ظَنَنْتُ أنَّهُ قُبِضَ فَقُمْتُ ألْتَمِسْهُ، ووَضَعْتُ يَدِي عَلى باطِنِ قَدَمَيْهِ فَتَحَرَّكَ فَفَرِحْتُ۔

وسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ فِي سُجُودِهِ: «أعُوذُ بِعَفْوِكَ مِن عِقابِكَ، وأعُوذُ بِرِضاكَ مِن سَخَطِكَ، وأعُوذُ بِكَ مِنكَ، جَلَّ وجْهُكَ، لا أُحْصِي ثَناءً عَلَيْكَ أنْتَ كَما أثْنَيْتَ عَلى نَفْسِكَ»

فَلَمّا أصْبَحَ ذَكَرْتُهُنَّ لَهُ فَقالَ: «يا عائِشَةُ تَعَلَّمْتِهُنَّ؟»، فَقُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، فَقالَ: «تَعَلَّمِيهِنَّ وعَلِّمِيهِنَّ، فَإنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ عَلَّمَنِيهِنَّ وأمَرَنِي أنْ أُرَدِّدَهُنَّ فِي السُّجُودِ»،  

هَذا إسْنادٌ ضَعِيفٌ ورُوِيَ مِن وجْهٍ آخَرَ هب وضعَّفه عن عائشة
