51. Companionship of Women (2/8)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Everything that does not mention the remembrance of Allah is frivolity and play, except for four activities: a man's playing with his wife, teaching a horse to be obedient, walking between the two goals (i.e., the tall pillars used in Arabian games), and teaching a man to swim."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Every matter that is not from the remembrance of Allah is vain and frivolous, except for four qualities: walking between the targets, training his horse, playing with his family, and teaching swimming."
51.16 [Machine] The man's joke
[Machine] We were walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he asked me, "Did you get married after your father?" I said, "Yes." He asked, "Did you marry Ayyub or Bakr?" I said, "Ayyub." He said, "Why didn't you marry Bakr? She would make you laugh and you would make her laugh, and she would play with you and you would play with her."
51.17 [Machine] The man's wife's competition
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ preceded me, so I preceded him until our flesh became exhausted. He preceded me, and then he preceded me again, and he said, "This is your recompense."
[Machine] I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while I was slim. We reached a place and he said to his companions, "Move forward." Then he said to me, "Come forward so I can race you." So I raced him and I beat him. Then I went out with him on another journey and this time I had gained weight. We reached a place and he said to his companions, "Move forward." Then he said to me, "Come forward so I can race you." So I raced him and he beat me. He struck my shoulder with his hand and said, "This is for that."
[Machine] I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and his companions went ahead. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Outstrip them." So, I outstripped him. When it was later, and I carried the meat, he said, "Outstrip them." So, I outstripped him. He said, "This is for that."
[Machine] She was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey and she was a slave girl. He said to his companions, "Go ahead." Then he said, "Come, I will race you." So I raced him and I outran him on foot. When he caught up with me afterward, we went on a journey together. He said to his companions, "Go ahead." Then he said, "Come, I will race you." I forgot what I had taken from him, and I was carrying meat, so I said, "How can I race you, O Messenger of Allah, while I am in this state?" He said, "You will do it." So I raced him and he outran me. Then he said, "This (meat) is in return for that (previous) race."
51.18 [Machine] Permissibility of a man playing with his daughters.
[Machine] "I used to play with the girls at the house of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and I had friends who would come to me and play with me. They would gather around me when they saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would bring them to me and they would play with me."
[Machine] I used to play with the girls, and perhaps the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and my companions came to me. When we saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we would run away, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say, "As you are, and as all of you are."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to secretly send my companions to play with me with girls' toys.
[Machine] I used to play with girls during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived after the expedition to Tabuk or Khaybar (the narrator is doubtful), the draught raised an end of a curtain which was hung in front of her store-room, revealing some dolls which belonged to her. He asked: What is this? She replied: My dolls. Among them he saw a horse with wings made of rags, and asked: What is this I see among them? She replied: A horse. He asked: What is this that it has on it? She replied: Two wings. He asked: A horse with two wings? She replied: Have you not heard that Solomon had horses with wings? She said: Thereupon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed so heartily that I could see his molar teeth. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4932)
51.19 [Machine] The permissibility of a man allowing his wife to look at the game.
[Machine] Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , said, "The Ethiopians entered the mosque to play, so he said to me, 'O Humayra, do you want to look at them?' So I said, 'Yes,' and he went to the door and I followed him. I placed my chin on his shoulder and rested my face against his cheek." She said, "And among what they were saying that day was 'Abu al-Qasim, may goodness be upon him.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'That is enough for you.'" So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, do not rush!" He stood up for me, then he said, "That is enough for you." So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, do not rush!" She said, "It is not that I have a desire to look at them, but rather, I wanted the women to see his status and my position with him."
The Prophet ﷺ was screening me with his Rida' (garment covering the upper part of the body) while I was looking at the Ethiopians who were playing in the courtyard of the mosque. (I continued watching) till I was satisfied. So you may deduce from this event how a little girl (who has not reached the age of puberty) who is eager to enjoy amusement should be treated in this respect. (Using translation from Bukhārī 5236)
BY Allah, I remember the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing on the door of my apartment screening me with his mantle enabling me to see the sport of the Abyssinians as they played with their daggers in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upom him). He (the Holy Prophet) kept standing for my sake till I was satiated and then I went back; and thus you can well imagine how long a girl tender of age who is fond of sports (could have watched it). (Using translation from Muslim 892d)
[Machine] Aisha, the Abyssinians used to play with a bow and arrow that they had. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up, and I was looking between his ear and shoulder until I was the one who saw it.
[Machine] The Abyssinians were playing, so I came behind him ﷺ and he began to bend his back until I could see.
[Machine] There were children playing in the city, so Aisha placed her cheek on the shoulder of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and watched them.
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting and we heard a scream and the voices of children. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arose, and it was an Ethiopian woman, prancing around while the children played around her. So he said: 'O 'Aishah, come (and) see.' So I came, and I put my chin upon the shoulder of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I began to watch her from between his shoulder and his head, and he said to me: 'Have you had enough, have you had enough?'" She said: "So I kept saying: 'No,' to see my status with him. Then 'Umar appeared." She said: "So they dispersed." She said: "So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed I see the Shayatin among men and jinn have run from 'Umar.' She said: 'So I returned.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3691)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ went out and the Abyssinians were playing. I was watching from a distance when the Prophet ﷺ approached me. I placed my hand on his shoulder and started looking. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Take the daughters of Arfidah." I continued to watch them playing and spinning until it was me who ended it."
51.20 [Machine] The man's release of his wife listening to singing and beating with the drum.
[Machine] Abu Bakr entered upon her during the days of Mina with two slave girls who were singing and playing the tambourine. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was reclining with his face towards his garment, not commanding or forbidding them. Abu Bakr scolded them and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave them, O Abu Bakr, for it is the days of 'Eid."
[Machine] A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said to Aisha, "Do you know her?" She replied, "No, O Prophet of Allah." He said, "This is Qayna, the daughter of so and so, and she loves to sing for you. So she sang for her."
51.21 [Machine] The etiquette of approaching women
51.22 [Machine] The obedience of a woman to her husband.
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked about the best women. He said, "She who obeys when commanded, pleases when looked at, and safeguards him in herself and his wealth."
[Machine] She entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up for a need, and he fulfilled her need. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Are you a wife?" She said, "Yes." He said, "How are you towards him?" She said, "I only do what I am unable to do." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Look at where you are from him. For indeed, he is your Paradise and your Hellfire."
[Machine] She came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a need. When she finished her need, he said, "Are you married?" She said, "Yes." He said, "How do you treat him?" She said, "I do not cause him trouble except with what I am not capable of." He said, "Look at where you are in relation to him, for indeed he is your paradise and your hell." 51.23 [Machine] In the woman lies her migration to her husband's bed.
The Prophet ﷺ said, "If a woman spends the night deserting her husband's bed (does not sleep with him), then the angels send their curses on her till she comes back (to her husband). (Using translation from Bukhārī 5194)

51.24 [Machine] The gaze of a woman at the private parts of her husband
I said: Messenger of Allah, from whom should we conceal our private parts and to whom can we show? He replied: conceal your private parts except from your wife and from whom your right hands possess (slave-girls). I then asked: Messenger of Allah, (what should we do), if the people are assembled together? He replied: If it is within your power that no one looks at it, then no one should look at it. I then asked: Messenger of Allah if one of us is alone, (what should he do)? He replied: Allah is more entitled than people that bashfulness should be shown to him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4017)
51.25 [Machine] The coming of women is obligatory
[Machine] It was said to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , that the Jews say when a man approaches his wife from behind, the child will have a squint. So he replied, "The Jews have lied." Then the verse was revealed: "Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish" [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:223].

[Machine] He used to say that the Jews used to say that when a woman is approached from behind and then becomes pregnant, her child will have a closer resemblance to the one who approached her. Then this verse was revealed: "Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish" [Al-Baqarah 223]. Abdur-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Abdil-Hakam informed us, saying: Ibn Abu Maryam narrated to us, saying: Yahya bin Ayyub informed me, and others mentioned that Ibn Hadd narrated to them from Muhammad bin Al-Munkadir from Jabir, similarly.
When a man has intercourse with his wife through the vagina but being on her back. the child will have squint, so the verse came down:" Your wives are your tilth; go then unto your tilth as you may desire" (ii. 223) (Using translation from Muslim 1435a)

He said: 'I turned my mount during the night (meaning that he went into his wife from behind).'" He said: "So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not say anything in reply to him. Then Allah revealed this Ayah to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth when or how you will (2:223).' From the front, the back, avoiding the anus, and menstruation." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2980)
[Machine] "Oh Beneficial One, do you know the meaning of this verse? We, the people of Quraysh, used to choose our wives. But when we entered the city and married the women of the Ansar, we wanted them to be like our previous wives. However, they disliked that and considered it a greater burden. The women of the Ansar allowed intimacy only while lying on their sides. So, Allah, the Most High, revealed the following verse: 'Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish.' [Quran 2:223]"
