51. Companionship of Women
[Machine] Regarding the illness of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , it is narrated that "He complained and then he embraced his breath, and we likened his breath to the breath of a person eating raisins. He would rotate between his wives. When the illness worsened, he asked them for permission to be treated at my home and for them to take care of him. They granted him permission, so he entered upon me while reclining on two legs, with one of them being that of Al-Abbas. I mentioned this to Ibn Abbas, and he said, 'Didn't you know who the other leg belonged to?' I said, 'No.' He replied, 'It was Ali.'"
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to aske our permission on the day he had to stay with one of his wives (by turns) after the following Qur'anic verse was revealed: "You may distance those whom you like, and draw close to those whom you like" [33:51]. The narrator Mu'adhah said: I said to her: What did you say to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? She said: I used to say: If had an option for that, I would not preferred anyone to myself. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2136)
