51. Companionship of Women
٥١۔ كِتَابُ عِشْرَةِ النِّسَاءِ
[Machine] Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had instructed us that if one of us had any written correspondence, he should complete what remained of his writing, then set it aside and inform me. Ubaidullah ibn Saad narrated this in another context and said, "If there is anything that needs to be decided regarding it, then conceal it from me."
إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ كَانَ عَهِدَ إِلَيْنَا إِذَا كَانَ لِإِحْدَانَا مُكَاتَبٌ فَقَضَى مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ كِتَابَتِهِ فَاضْرِبْنَ دُونَهُ الْحِجَابَ أَخْبَرَنِي بِهِ عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعْدٍ فِي مَوْضِعٍ آخِرَ وَقَالَ «إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْمُكَاتَبِ مَا يَقْضِي عَنْهُ فَاحْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ»
“If anyone of you (women) has a Mukatab, and he has enough (wealth) to pay off (his contact of manumission), she must veil herself from him.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2520)
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ إِحْدَاكُنَّ مُكَاتَبٌ وَكَانَ عِنْدَهُ مَا يُؤَدِّي فَلْتَحْتَجِبْ مِنْهُ»
